Last Time on Her Broken Magic…
Episode 2.5: Duxon, Recap
1. Belle was walking in a dissociated daze, unaware of her surroundings after leaving Urden, guided entirely by Jac. Internally, Belle warred with herself, trying to decide if she should give into the hollow safety of Nothing, or the terrifying chaos of Everything.
2. Tobei woke up in the early morning hours following the disastrous “meeting” extremely hungover on the floor of the infirmary’s supply room. He was terrified that in his drunkenness he might have taken some of Luelle’s medicine, but was relieved to find all of the bottles still intact. Daivad entered the supply room suddenly, and after grabbing several items grabbed Tobei as well and dragged him to the stream for their regular sobering-up ritual. Then Daivad took Tobei to the kitchen and got him some soup before telling Tobei he would be back in a week and leaving.
Tobei, as always, followed Daivad.
3. Daivad and Tobei travelled to Duxon over a period of about two days, and Tobei was very much a little brother the entire journey. After Tobei’s little-brother-ness finally got to Daivad he revealed he was going to Duxon to stake out the prison camp that was there.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
When they reached the camp, they hid out for the night to observe it, and as night fell a cacophony of disgusting, horrifying noises started up on the mountain, but Daivad was unable to find the source of the sounds.
4. When morning broke, they moved on the camp. Tobei distracted the guards with his violin while Daivad set up to use Earthbreaking to fuck up the whole bluff and bring one of the prison camp’s walls down. Then he just straight up punched a second wall down. It was pretty cool.
Then Tobei and Daivad rode into the camp to find a riot going on. They didn’t have to work very hard to wipe out the guards because the prisoners were doing it for them. Daivad was disappointed by this.
Once the camp was “freed,” Daivad realized there were way too many prisoners to bring back to his camp—he wouldn’t be able to provide for them. But also they didn’t have anywhere else to go, so he begrudgingly agreed to take them in. His reckless behavior (plus uncontrollable maternal instinct) strikes again.
5. In a vivid nightmare, Lenna relived Clarix’s death from the point of view of Clarix and woke up so panicked that she became sick. When she got up to clean herself off, she realized that there was a strange, bloody rune carved into her neck, and that she had apparently carved it there herself.
