Chapter 11 - Salvage the house first, try not to die in the forest later

“This room doesn’t have anything, either. Let’s go to the next”, Roberion, accompanied by Percival, goes to the last room to find anything that could be useful. The search was for nothing, the three rooms were already ransacked, nothing useful behind, seeing that Roberion walked to the entrance, until finding Percival looking at a seemingly normal table.

“Something’s wrong Percival?'“, Percival looks indecisive before revealing the reason for his lack of focus. “I dont know what to say, it’s just that this table got my attention, like there is something wrong with it. But I dont know the reason”. Roberion got curious too, “Let’s poke around it, maybe we find something, I’m honestly stumped, while we do it, I think it’s better if I say what happened to you”, Roberion explains the first time he saw Percival.

“Oh, what a shameful display, excuse me for my frivolity and lack of knight’s pride”, he shacks his capybara head, managing the feat of not dropping the helmet. “I just can’t deal with crowds. It’s not dangerous, but I feel suffocated. To die like that, without fighting is a disgrace, my patron dying under my knightly vows protection, oh such a sad death, one must die bravely fighting their enemies to the death”, Percival start faking piercing and slashing enemies to demonstrate his prowess, Roberion though got his attention on how weird his fighting style was, He uses his belly when fighting, like someone would use a shield to bash and attack, I don’t think that’s normal.

Taking a look back at the table for some time, he finally finds something. “Hey use the point of your sword and try to put the tip…here”, Percival takes his sword and does as it was said, a clack is heard, and the bottom of the table falls out on the side of the hole. “It’s some kinda of mechanism. Look…obviously our reward is a dirty bag”. He lifts the bag full of mold and dust. After clearing it, he sticks his hand in the bag. At that moment, the system sends a new notification. It was simply named “Black Sevenstree bag”.

“System, show me more details”

Black Sevenstree bag

“It was pink, now it is black. The bull failed his task, the crafter didn’t”

Type: Container

Tier: Peak-mundane

Incarnation: Touched

Line: Space

Enchantment:

[Minor Magic pocket]: Can carry objects up to 100m³. Can’t carry living things. Tier and Incarnation dependent.

“Tier and Incarnation… The system doesn’t give an answer, so it’s better to improvise, and this container is showing how. Percival see you later”. Saying that he deactivates the die. After that he tries to put to die inside the bag, it doesn’t work. It was like there was a wall blocking the item, forcing it inside was impossible, At least it didn’t explode or something, and this shitty system doesn’t show what is inside, but I have a feeling where they are, and how to pick them. Bust most important, by the item description, it is weaker than Last gamble of the Round Table, the die has many more enchantment and it was upgradable. Yes [Knight Rules] is really bad, but I can’t deny the enchantments are powerful, even by being a pain in the ass. The Tier is the same though.

Roberion focus on the item description, “The Bull failed his task the crafter didn’t”. Roberion scratches his chin, thinking, So that’s how it is, a failed bull, or let’s say a Bull of Seventree before evolution, its of peak-mundane tier. Maybe that is something relative to materials, like how we seem to use the system to absorb materials and gain stats and levels.

Stolen content warning: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences.

Roberion furrows his eyebrows, Brutus that traitors bull was strong, but not that strong, If I could fight him, with work I could win, so probably I’m made of some peak-mundane at least, but what is Incarnation? That doesn’t make, and wait, the thing says that the crafter didn’t, so the crafter did the Incarnation part, maybe the crafter was of Touched incarnation and the materials peak-mundane. So if Ievel high enough, maybe I upgrade my incarnation or I increase my tier. That’s only a supposition though.

Eyeing the bag, Roberion starts to take the items out. When the item it’s taken out, an expansion occurs, returning the item to a normal size as it leaves the bag. “It doesn’t matter if there is something useful or not. I will have to go out and gain levels. Becoming stronger, I will probably get some answers from the system, and I still need to get out of here. I am still in the dark of this whole situation, maybe reaching the research base changes that”.

Roberion activates the die again, summoning Percival. The search in the bag continues. The result of contents is perplexing, contents for various ways of use are present, who previous owned bag had used it to its limits. Most of the items inside the bag were a collection of clothes and accessories, taking a more stylish approach than utility, colorful robes, fancy pants, hats of the most varied styles and colours, boots, shirts with the most beautiful illustrations that Roberion ever had seen.

Beautiful clothes aside, the bag holds two more vanity items, a ring and a necklace, the ring was simple but had a beauty to it, gold and with a runic engraving of unknown meaning, Roberion left it aside for a more cautious look later. The second item was a necklace, this necklace different from the ring, had a simple iron pendant, depicting a soldier with a heavy armor and enclosed helmet, in his righthand a sword on his left an object resembling a gun, aside that there wasn’t any more information.

“Alright Percival, I think I got a feel to it, just trying to picture the inside of the bag while trying to take things out seems to do the trick, it’s a little hazy though, knowing the item beforehand is way easier to locate it take it out, so lets just return anything that isn’t as interesting inside… That gave me an idea, Percival come here. Try to take something out from the bag”.

“As you command, for it to work, I shall picture this mysterious bag with my mind…”, if Percival had eyebrows, he would be furrowing it. As Percival does that, he successfully takes out a plastic pack full of mangos. Taking it out, he eyes the apple with hunger. Roberion stares at it with confusion, “Percival do you need to eat? Didn’t know weapons could feel hunger”.

Percival perks his furry head and admits with a bit of shame, “I have to admit that my interest in this fruit is not one derived from hunger, but from simple desire, it just looks tasty. Nonetheless, I don’t need it”. Roberion points at Percival’s rapier, “If you can peel them with you rapier, get some for you, Nulls don’t feel much hunger, but it’s better be careful, I already had a dangerous situation before that a full stomach could have helped somewhat.”

Percival shows up his skills again, peeling the mangos like a mix of cook and duelist. Roberion eyes the bag, thinking about new uses he could do with such information. As much as the break was welcome, the search for items continues.

After the mangos, they found a month's worth of packaged food and water. The supplies seemed to be planned to be used in an emergency, even military rations could be seen in inferior quantities. But later, as they reached the bottom of the bag, they found something that could change things.

“So, I finally got to the bag’s bottom, but it’s weird. It seems like some sort of big rectangular thing. I think it’s probably a crate”. What is taken out of the bag is a heavy wooden crate. The crate creates a heavy noise when dropping on the floor, a sign of the heavy contents it carries. The crates have a handwritten message on the top of it, saying My last resort. Both Roberion and Percival eye the area for signal of movements, seeing that the area is safe, they start opening the crate.

“Percival, try to use your rapier and I will pull the top”. The crate was hard to open, but nothing could beat their team coordination. Sound of wood cracking is heard, the top falls off, and the contents inside the crate leave both of them confused. Percival because he didn’t know what it was, Roberion because he knew exactly what he was looking at, “They are freaking landmines!”.
