Chapter 8: Preparation

Chapter 8: Preparation

Daniel took over when they reached the hut, setting aside his giant axe. He looked at the weapons they had brought with them, wrapped in a cloth. A sword, a hand axe, a dagger. All poor quality weapons.

Then he began to set up a training ground. He realized that no one in the village could teach him how to fight with weapons. But in his previous life, Daniel had watched armed combat experts many times on the internet.

He knew the basic logic of fighting - to create maximum danger with minimum exposure in every move, to take advantage of the weapon.

If it has a long reach, take advantage of the reach to keep the distance. If it is short and can be used quickly, to get close enough to the enemy to tear him to pieces - in short, he knew the basic logic.

Now he had to develop a proper fighting technique with the weapons at hand. A technique suitable for a giant of a man like him.

He cut down trees, created a courtyard, and carved a few target figures from the trees he cut down. He would use these target figures to experiment with how to use weapons such as axes, swords, and daggers most efficiently.

There was not much food in the hut. But there was rope, and when he looked around, he saw the droppings of various animals.

Daniel had suffered a lot of hunger and poverty as a child. So he knew how to collect food from the garbage and how to catch small animals and birds with slingshots and traps.

He took some trapping equipment and a bag of stones suitable for throwing and went out to get food. By evening, he returned with two rabbits, five birds, and a deer. He had set traps everywhere. He ate what he could of the animals, and with his huge body, he had to eat a lot. He left the rest of the meat to smoke and dry over the embers.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

By the end of the week, he had trained for twelve hours every day, spending a few hours collecting the prey from the traps and preparing it for eating.

He didn't do the twelve hours of training alone. Danny was almost as eager as he was. Daniel and Danny practiced the same course with the same weapon taking turns.

Despite using the same body, two different minds were producing beautiful results. They were learning from each other's actions. Daniel had more experience fighting, and Danny had more experience using this body and swinging an axe. So they were both learning from each other all the time.

A month of heavy training, of eating a diet of meat, had changed Daniel's body from that of a very muscular and pot-bellied man to that of a man who was just muscle.

At the end of the month, Daniel wanted to test how much better he was at handling a weapon. Daniel asked Danny, "I have seen various monsters in your memories. Are there any monsters nearby that I can try out my weapon skills on?"

Danny thought for a moment, "There are wogs that land in the village from time to time." Daniel asked, "Wogs, what's that?"

In memory in front of him were dog-headed creatures, about 1.40-1.50 meters tall, wielding stone-tipped spears and axes and wearing animal skin loincloths as clothing.

These creatures also had sharp claws. They would occasionally attack people, steal what they could and eat what they could kill. But in general they were not considered very dangerous.

Once Daniel realized what the target was, he began to prepare. These wogs were usually made up of tribes of 20-30 members and Daniel's intention was to destroy an entire tribe.

Daniel gave himself a week to prepare, a week in which he would practice using his sword and hand axe simultaneously. And when he was tired he began to make a thick armor out of wood, rope and the skins of the animals he had hunted so far. The purpose of this armor was to protect him from the stone weapons and claws of the wogs.
