Chapter 20: The lich and the werewolf

Chapter 20: The lich and the werewolf

Daniel sat down next to the Lich, whose body language betrayed desperation. "Aren't Liches supposed to look like skeletons?" he asked.

"Which body?" the Lich replied wearily. "My real body looked like a skeleton five hundred years ago, and now it has vanished into dust."

Daniel said, "So this body doesn't belong to you." "No, it belongs to a peasant whom looks I liked, I was too weak to take over a strong body, so I took over the body of a peasant whose ldoks was good but whose mind was weak because of his constant drunken wandering."

Daniel "You don't have a body, so what's this about if I kill this body of yours it will take a thousand years to come back?"

Lich "My soul is hidden in a box in a place no one knows about but me, normally if I had enough power in my soul I could take over another body and return to earth at any time. But since my soul is weak, if this body dies, it would take me a thousand years to get enough power to take over a body again to come back to earth through my soul's natural process of gathering energy.

When Daniel asked, "How old are you?" Enkra replied, "Only seven hundred, young for a lich."

"And what tier are you in power?" Daniel asked. Enkra replied, "I'm only tier four if I can muster my full strength, yes I'm quite weak for a lich."

Daniel was displeased by Enkra's cycle of defeated self-pity. He left him to his own devices. Brad was training with the bandits as usual.

Arn was happily mixing a healing potion in a small cauldron. Seth was busy at the forge preparing Daniel's latest order.

Daniel's eyes searched for Hans, who was standing over Esther, naked and covered in semen, lying on the ground. Wondering what they were talking about, Daniel approached quietly.

"Young man, your name is Hans, isn't it, get me out of here, I will give you a lot of money, I can make you a knight." Hans laughed "You are just an example for me. An example of how miserable you can end up if you bully others because you are noble, because you have a position.

Don't get me wrong, if you were a knight of good character, our people would have treated you the same way. But at least then I could feel a little pity for you."

Daniel was bored. He picked up a large wooden sword, summoned all the bandits training in the field, then addressed Hans. "All of you, all of you are going to attack me, we are going to train very hard, and soon we will have plenty of healing potions. So let's enjoy it."

A smile appeared on Hans' face, some of the bandits were scared, others were excited, just like Hans. Brad asked, "Am I the boss of the attackers?" Daniel said, "Yes." Then he shouted, "Attack!"

Arn speaks to himself with a sigh "I wish brewing the potion helps me move up the tiers, if not what is this? Madness, they will fight, then Arn will heal."

Three hours later Arn's small cauldron of healing potion was half empty. The healing potion he produced was a relatively low potency potion of the kind used by first-second tier adventurers.

So what the potion couldn't do, he did with his own healing energy.

Everyone in the group was bruised and battered, but Daniel, the winner of the training fight, had taken the worst beating.

Brad came up to Daniel holding a canteen of cold water on his bruised arm "You did great boss, but one thing I don't understand is how you have so much power energy." Daniel turned to Brad and asked "Do you know how to keep a secret Brad?" Brad said "Sure boss." Daniel said "So do I."

Daniel wasn't about to tell Brad that he ran out of energy halfway through the training fight but gave the body to Danny and he finished the rest and won.

Daniel looked at his men, all eager to move up the ranks. He didn't think they would rebel or anything, but he still had to remain the strongest. He called out to Arn "Arn, heal me first, soon I am going to fight the werewolf on my own, I need to tier up." "Is that a good idea boss?" Brad asked. Daniel said, "No risk, no reward."

Three days after the fight Daniel received his order from Seth, what he ordered was a knee length chain mail made from pieces of captured chain mail, plate armor for the shoulders and arms made of hard quality steel made to fit over the armor, a vest of plate armor for the chest and of course a helmet of high quality steel that protected the head and neck but did not restrict vision.

On his feet he wore the quality leather boots of the Tomas he had killed. He was armed with his new giant black sword and two small axes as backup weapons.

He walked into the forest without any support. The werewolf was second-tier like him, but he had single-handedly pushed a team of five adventurers, one of whom was a second-tier warrior, to the limit.

So Daniel had no intention of underestimating his enemy, and it was a risky fight, but if he wanted to be tier three he would have to kill powerful enemies in tough battles.

Daniel went into the forest, went to where he had last seen the werewolf.

He saw the werewolf fighting a giant grizzly bear. The bear was clearly superior to the werewolf. He had seen bears in the forest before, but he had never seen anything like this.

The bear's claws were elongated, shining a silver light. The werewolf, despite all his strength, was covered in blood.

Daniel didn't know what rank this bear was, but he was sure that the strength of this giant creature, three meters long at its feet, was equal to that of a human warrior of the third rank.

The giant took out his sword, ignited it. The sword was covered in black flames. The werewolf collapsed in the process. As the bear was about to finish off the wounded werewolf, Daniel leapt up with all his strength and tried to thrust his sword with all his might at the bear, who had been paying full attention to the werewolf.

He struck from behind, full force, he had sharpend the sword well enough to cut a strand of hair in two. The bear was too distracted by the werewolf to see the attack.

Despite all this, the sword only penetrated the bear's back by about ten centimeters.

The bear groaned in pain, and with great effort Daniel pulled the sword back out of the bear. A great surge of life energy rushed through his body.

Daniel realized he was screwed. He had hit a hard rock.

To try to physically defeat the bear would be suicide. If he tried to escape, he was sure this cascading bear would catch him.

With all his might, his mind focused on the attack. He spent all his energy trying to strike fear into the bear. But the bear was resistant to this kind of attack because of its high rank.

It began raining claw attacks on Daniel, and since Daniel could not escape, he increased the distance with all his might, delivering blow after blow with his sword.

Each time the bear got close, it would easily slice through a piece of Daniel's armor and inflict deep wounds on his body. But when Daniel managed to get a few feet away, each sword thrust only made shallow wounds in the bear's skin, but the life energy from these wounds was so great that Daniel's wounds healed instantly.

Daniel saw that the bear recognized this and instead of trying to hurt Daniel as much as possible at the risk of injuring him, it switched to a safer tactic of inflicting wounds over a longer period of time without being hit.

As long as Daniel could heal, he would win, no matter how shallow the bear's wounds were. But if bear fought without letting the Daniel to steal his life energy, bear would win for sure.

This time Daniel used his telepathic power to give anger instead of fear.

The bear had been unaffected last time, because it was already weakly inclined to fear, but this time it attacked like an erupting volcano. Because he was prone to anger, he was often angry.

Daniel began to fight the bear as it charged at him like a madman, telekinetically pushing him back and landing blow after blow. There were many blows on both sides.

Daniel was constantly pushing back with his telekinetic energy, inflicting a few small wounds on the bear, then the bear would come up with great speed and use its powerful claws to cut through Daniel's armor like butter, inflicting large wounds on Daniel, all the while Daniel was pushing back with all his physical and telekinetic strength so that the bear could not trap him and tear him completely to pieces, all the while healing from the blows he could land.

Ten minutes went by like that, Daniel gave the body to Danny to replenish his energy a little bit, and Danny fought in the same style. Ten minutes later Daniel had the body again. After an hour of fighting like this, Daniel's entire armor and helmet were in pieces, never to be used again.

But the bear fell to the ground, bleeding from more than a thousand small wounds. Daniel approached the dying bear on the ground. He thrust his sword right into its throat.

The two of them, who had been fighting for an hour, had both stepped up a tier.

Daniel looked at the armor he was wearing, there was nothing left on the front, it was completely shredded, and on the back there were a few wounds but it was intact.

Daniel sighed, "It's worth losing the armor for the third tier." Normally he had wounds despite all the healing, and all his energy had been used up in the big fight.

But when he killed the bear and stepped up a tier, his energy was restored. And when he had killed the bear, his sword had drawn so much life energy that all the wounds on his body had healed and the excess energy had overflowed and dissipated.

Daniel looked at the bear, it had maybe a thousand, maybe a thousand five hundred small holes in it, Daniel took off the pieces of armor on its back and threw them away. He thought of the bear's back. He turned the bear with difficulty, even though his physical strength had increased with the tier up and he was very strong to begin with.

The bear's back was intact except for a few small wounds.

With great care Daniel skinned the back and head of the bear's hide. This hide was very strong. He would make his new armor from it. He also removed the bear's long claws, which had turned to silvery metal.

He planned to make a different weapon out of them. At this moment he noticed the werewolf, wounded and trying to get up and run away. "Where are you going?" he said. He pulled the wounded werewolf towards him with the tremendous telekinetic energy of his tier increase.

Daniel wanted to test his new telepathic abilities. He focused on the werewolf. The werewolf was shocked at first, then opened his mind without difficulty.

It was ten years ago. "I love you so much, Daniel, you are the best thing that has ever happened to me in my life," a beautiful blonde-haired green-eyed woman was saying to a handsome dark-haired man, about 1.75 meters tall.

The werewolf whose name had once been Daniel felt the same way about the woman in front of him.

This man was not a warrior or a nobleman, he was a clerk, or more accurately an accountant.

He had made a decent life for himself thanks to his hard work. He became an accountant, keeping the books for various big merchants.

It wasn't until the day he met his wife that Daniel considered himself a lucky man. Because usually most people could get to where he was with half the effort.

But from the day he met his wife, he always considered himself the luckiest man in the world.

He was happy, he was going to have a child, everything was great for him, the difficulties of life seemed like nothing to him as long as his wife was with him.

But he couldn't have a child. The birth ended in miscarriage. Then his wife fell ill. Daniel spent all his savings on her.

He spent a lot of money on medicines to treat her, even if he had the slightest hope.

He could not afford all the medication, so he embezzled money from merchants, something he would never normally do.

When he could not save his wife despite all this, he went to find the mysterious witch of the mountains as a last hope.

The witch promised to save his wife. She told him to bring her to her. Daniel brought his sick wife to the witch.

They performed a ritual on a full moon. But the witch had intended from the start to use Daniel for her nefarious purposes.

On the full moon, Daniel was transformed into a werewolf. At the witch's command, he tore his wife to pieces, bloodthirsty. When he came to his senses, he fled in pain, his strength no match for the witch.

He wandered madly through the forests and became more and more insane with feelings of pain, anger, regret.

Over the years, not only physically but mentally he became no different from an animal. He hunted when he was hungry, he ran when he was attacked, he lived like an animal with only his instincts.

Daniel realized that he could easily control this man whose mind had been destroyed. Daniel guessed that this was the witch's intention from the beginning. To drive this man mad and then use him as a puppet once his mind was shattered.
