53. Industrial Mayhem

Elisia's sleep throughout shortened the time of her trip to Taichan city. She opened the eyes that were filled with dirt, then her eyes caught the surroundings. Elisia confused because she saw many large buildings that had large chimneys. Thick black smoke filled the blue sky from the chimney.

Risk felt the movement of Elisia's body after getting up and immediately gave her a bottle of water.

“You sweat during your sleep. I'm afraid you lack body fluids,” Risk said.

Elisia accepted the bottle and opened it. She downed the drink mercilessly until the bottle deflated. The water was also dry inside from being sucked in by the girl. Nothing could match the freshness of the water that flew down the throat when it was dry.

After her drink finished, Elisia wanted to open her mouth to let the sound out.

“Where are we?” she asked hoarsely.

“Welcome to Taichan city, The Industrial City of Runga!” Scott welcomed Elisia with open arms.

Elisia didn't understand the meaning of the word industry, but seeing a large building with a huge chimney with black smoke coming out of it already described the dirty condition of this city. She thought the whole area of Runga was clean and safe, apparently there were some areas that slums like Taichan city.

Elisia could see several people wearing special clothes walking around the building. They carried strange items using pickups and large wagons. She didn't know what it was, but it looked dangerous. Elisia was speechless with the conditions here, not even other living beings seemed to wander around.

The smells from outside the car also made the royal girl's breath suffocate. Her lungs were not used to this dirty air full of black smoke of unknown origin. In her heart, Elisia wouldn't want to live in this environment even if they paid her a hundred million coins.

“Scott, are you sure the location of the first device is here? This location is very shabby, in my opinion,” Risk asked while glancing at the building outside.

“According to the files we stole yesterday, it's located here. I've asked Ilya, and she knows the location. I didn't think the paper would take us to Taichan City,” Scott replied rather casually.

“ELECTEC is smart enough to hide one of their creations in a place like this. You know, a lot of gangsters roam this land. They are very dangerous, but you can only find them at certain times,” Kafka said with his explanation.

“Looks like you want to talk about your past as a gangster, Kafka. I hope you're not drowning in it again,” Scott commented.

“That's an old story, Hawkeye. I don't want to tell you something that other people don't like, including Princess Elisia who's coming with us,” Kafka replied while looking out of the car window, “By the way, who had the idea to bring our beloved princess with us?”

“Risk said that. I know I can't go against his will," Scott answered, raising a hand.

“I just want Elisia to grow up with better abilities. I think this environment is good enough to improve her skills. Right, Elisia?” Risk turned to Elisia.

“Of course. I don't want to sit in apartment waiting for you to come home. If you don't go home, I won't go home either,” Elisia replied with a burning passion in her heart.

Kafka pointed the windshield at Elisia. “Look, The Princess seems to be very excited! I don't want to let her spirits wear down just because we don't take the plan seriously.” Kafka turned the car glass to Scott. “I'm sure you've prepared a slick plan this time.”

“Don't worry about that.” Scott pulled a large bag from the back of the car. “We just need to blow up these little babies, problem solved.”

“You mean we're going to detonate a bomb?” Elisia confirmed.

“You'll see later. I think we're almost there.” Scott glanced through the windshield.

The car slowed down into a small street in a slum near a large building. A strange smell wafted as the wheels drove on the cobblestoned streets. Scott and Risk prepared equipment for Ilya. The four-wheeled vehicle stopped in front of a large garage filled with scribbles of dull colors. They heard tires rubbing against the ground, showing that they had reached the marked location.

They opened the car door and unloaded all their belongings. Elisia's gaze immediately fell on a large building that looked more modern than its surroundings. The girl guessed that the location of [The Camouflage Net] was there. After that, Elisia turned to the garage. Ilya had been standing there with her arms folded in front.

“You know, you're late,” Ilya greeted with an annoyed face.

“Hey, the journey here wasn't easy. We've seen a lot of gangsters along the way and been nearly stopped twice,” Scott explained, looking for an excuse, “Finally, we're here.”

“Good story. You can redo it in the middle of the factory. Come in!” Ilya opened the door and entered after that.

Elisia and friends stunned to see all the equipment in the shabby warehouse. Elisia saw many items, such as [Laser Gun], [EMP Bomb], and [Electro Staff]. She didn't know what it was, but it looked like it would be used during the mission.

Ilya led them to a room with a round table in the center. The slightly red-haired woman also brought out a few cans of drinks onto the table as a treat for their arrival. Elisia held the can and was getting more and more confused. How to drink with this thing?

Risk opened the first drink. A swishing sound came from the lid and a little water splattered. Elisia tried Risk's way of making the can. The opener felt hard and wouldn't move. Elisia tried it many times, to the point of having to spend a lot of energy. Suddenly, Risk stopped Elisia's movement and took the drink can. The man opened it easily. Then, the can was given again to Elisia.

“Ask for help even if it's just a small problem,” Risk said.

Elisia put her lips to the mouth of the can and poured its contents. The taste of the drink was strange, as if something had exploded on her tongue. She looked at the can and it just said “Cola”. Elisia didn't know what she meant, but the drink remembered her with the beer she accidentally swallowed during a small royal banquet.

“I hesitate to say this, but are you sure Elisia will be safe here? This place is more dangerous than the Tanin slums,” Ilya asked while looking at Scott.

“It wasn't my idea, it was Risk.” Scott glanced at Risk.

“Yes, I invited her. After all, hasn't her appearance changed so that people won't recognize her?” Risk looked at Elisia.

“Up to you. I don't know what's on your mind, but I don't want to take responsibility if something happens to her.” Ilya turned on the computer after babbling.

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Elisia used her great curiosity to explore the warehouse. The surrounding things awakened her awareness. Her eyes continued to search for items that might still be of use.

Her soft hand grabbed a cube with a strange motif. Elisia cleaned off the sand and dust that covered the thing. Symmetrical motifs appeared on one side. The golden circle on each side looked like a glass eye, except for one side, which shaped like a hole.

Elisia brought the thing to the round table. However, Kafka caught her when Elisia passed in front of the room.

“Oh, My Liege! What did you bring?” Kafka approached Elisia.

“This cube? I found it over there earlier. Do you know what this is?” Elisia showed it to Kafka.

Kafka took the thing. He lifted and threw like a small ball. His big hand kept fingering the cube. Kafka's expression changed from happy to gloomy. Seeing his face, Elisia already knew the answer.

“You don't know what it is?” Elisia asked to be sure.

“I've seen this thing before. Maybe Ilya knows this cube.” Kafka walked to the round table, followed by Elisia and her curiosity.

Kafka immediately slammed the cube onto the table, much to everyone's surprise. Scott even spilled his coffee on his shirt in shock. All eyes were on Kafka.

“Kafka, stop pounding the table! Are you going to die if you don't hit the table one bit?” Ilya called out from the computer desk on the right side of the round table.

“You guys are too busy with your fun. Look what our little princess found.” Kafka pointed to the cube.

Ilya looked at him with an even expression. “It's just a junk that was given two days ago by the factory. Don't overreact!”

“But can you fix it? Maybe this cube can help us,” Elisia asked.

Ilya got up from the chair and approached Elisia. “It's just production waste. After all, there weren't any components that could fix that thing here. Stuff like that gets dumped around here a lot.”

“Can I have it?” Elisia asked again.

Ilya sighed. “Up to you.” The woman returned to the computer desk.

Elisia tossed the cube around like a toy to her. Objects like this were too good to be thrown away, because the motifs were excellent and had a high artistic taste. The lines drew irregularly, combined with glossy red-blue-green gradient colors, and gold frame-like decorations on the edges.

Elisia has been a lover of art since she was young. Her parents often opened art exhibitions in the kingdom of Gwelissa by presenting dozens of artists from all over the country. Because of Gwelissa's traditions that stuck with her in the past, the royal maids often accompanied Elisia around the exhibition at night before going to bed.

“I'm sure Upgrade can fix this thing,” Elisia thought when she saw the cube.

Suddenly, Scott came up to her with a flat look. His eyes stared straight at the cube. Elisia felt that Scott knew something, considering he was holding the [Device Archive].

“Scott wants to see it?” Elisia bargained.

Scott nodded and immediately picked up the cube. He glanced at the paper and the cube. Elisia tilted her head to the right when she saw Scott's level. Her eyes opened wide, could it be that...?

“Scott, did you find anything?” Elisia asked, feigning ignorance.

“I think… we found something more than trash.” Scott put the cube on the round table. “Ilya, there is something I want to talk about in private.”

Ilya looked up from behind the computer screen. “Hah? I'm setting up a CCTV Hack configuration on this computer. Is there anything important?”

“Very important. You too, Kafka!”

“Then what about us?” Risk asked, who was not invited.

“Wait here with Elisia! We won't be long.” Scott left with Kafka, followed by Ilya into a room.

After everyone left, Risk folded his arms across his chest. An aura of annoyance enveloped his body at this moment, though Elisia couldn't see it.

“They did it again. He never changes,” Risk said.

Elisia held her chin. “I'm sure they must have found something related to the cube with the five combat devices. I saw Scott glance at the cube and the document alternately, as if matching them up.”

“Who knows? We can only wait. After all, that's the business of those looking for the device. We are just passengers in their house,” Risk replied calmly.

To kill her boredom waiting for the Runga people to finish their discussing, Elisia opened [Telum Experto] to read the description of [The Chameleon]. Elisia had already used [The Camouflage Net], so she had to learn how to use it from [The Chameleon]. She looked for a comfortable sofa to sit on and enjoy the rest of the day.

Elisia read the history of the magic armor. The Chameleon, according to [Telum Experto], was the name of a Great Chief who ruled the village of Chaa'aluka. The Chief used this armor in the tournament to choose The Great Chief. A ritualist helped him make the armor and made him invisible while wearing the armor. Elisia fascinated by this story.

“However, he had to suffer for the rest of his life because the magic of the armor stuck to him, rendering him invisible forever. Apparently, he broke his promise to make the ritualist to make him a tribal mage.” Elisia understood the story written in the sacred book. “I hope technology won't cast the same curse.”

Risk overheard Elisia's muttering while reading the story. He snatched the book from Elisia.

“You really enjoyed reading this book. I wonder what you read.” Risk looked at the contents of the book. “Hmm…, you're reading the story of the 'Seven Curses of Lord's Weapons'. I've also heard of it when I was a special forces soldier.” Risk gave back the book to Elisia.

“Really? I don't know if it's a story passed down by word of mouth,” Elisia said.

“Indeed, but I don't fully believe it. It's just a mythical story without an author, who was born in the civilization of society. You can believe the story because it's interesting,” Risk explained.

Elisia recalled the Dao's words about the Seven Sacred Books when inquiring about the possession of [Hex Aegis]. In her mind, what other books she might get on the way was a question that would be answered later.

When she wanted to reading again, Scott had returned with the cube. The book closed again and inserted into the [Flame Pendulum], then Elisia approached the black-haired man. They must repay her curiosity with a satisfactory answer.

“So, what did you find out about this cube?” Elisia asked with her innocent face.

Scott smiled at the girl's question and held her left shoulder. “There is one important thing that we found. You'll be glad to hear that.”

“Then let me know everything! I don't want Elisia to be killed by an unanswered curiosity,” Risk replied, as if he knew what was in Elisia's heart.

“That's why I approached you.” Scott took Risk and Elisia to a dark room.

Scott turned on the light in the room and a sight of a pile of junk met their gaze. Elisia could smell a strange stench coming from the pile.

“I hope you can endure this stench for a while, because I don't want anyone else to hear our conversation,” Scott said as he closed the door.

Risk glanced at Elisia. “Tell me if you can't stand it!”

Elisia nodded. Her right hand had pinched her nostril until she was almost out of air.

“I'll get straight to the point. The cube that Elisia found in this building turned out to be an iron wrapper from Star of Energy, one of the five combat devices,” Scott explained.

Risk and Elisia responded with surprise, and both eyes opened wide.

“So, Star of Energy is also in Taichan?” Elisia drew a conclusion.

Scott nodded. “And even more astonishingly, they store the Camouflage Net close to the Star of Energy, so we can steal two devices at once.”

“Where are the two devices?” Risk asked.

“Did you see any of the more modern factory buildings when we got here?” Scott asked back.

“Oh, I saw it!” Elisia answered in a loud voice.

“That's where the two devices are. Ilya once tapped the CCTV camera in the building and made a route to the room. What we need is an idea to enter unnoticed into that building.” Scott grabbed his chin.

“I thought you discussed it with Kafka and Ilya earlier,” Risk responded disappointedly, “But that's not a problem. Maybe Elisia has a plan.”

“Eh, I'm not a good planner!” Elisia denied.

Scott opened the door again. “Let's talk at the round table!” The man walked ahead to the destination.

At the round table, Kafka and Ilya had prepared some papers and maps for their upcoming mission talks. The cube they were examining was also on the table, and had been repaired. Its eye rocketed emit light.

“We have prepared what you need. I have also made a floor plan from the building,” Ilya reported.

“Okay.” Scott took the floor plan. The hallways in the building were quite complex, like underground pipelines. There were many twists and turns in the building.

“I have found information that the building is frequented by trucks carrying chemicals from ELECTEC research center once every three days of the week. If we want to infiltrate, tomorrow is the perfect day,” Kafka continued.

“But how do we get into that truck?” Elisia asked, listening.

“The only parties who can stop the truck are the gangsters. They often harass truck drivers passing through this area,” Scott replied, “if only we had acquaintances from among the gangsters.”

Ilya suddenly glanced at Kafka after Scott said that. Scott also realized something and turned to their big man. Elisia's mind immediately fell to one point after seeing their behavior. Kafka, confused by all the stares that were directed at him.

“You want me to talk to those gangsters again?” Kafka confirmed.

“We won't force you to do that. We still remember what happened a few years ago between you and that gangster,” Ilya answered sympathetically.

Kafka was silent for a moment to think about something. He left the round table and walked to the front door. Elisia sympathized with seeing her big friend remember the heartbreaking incident that still lingers in his heart. Maybe there was something she could do to cheer Kafka up.

“I'll talk to Kafka!”
