19. My Fated Department

19. My Fated Department

As I walked through the doors of the healing department, I discovered a beautiful interior and a lively atmosphere. I also spotted many students, they were senior students wearing 'Holy robes' and also new students without robes like me.

"Ah, finally. Some newbs."

But soon, I noticed, something wasn't quite right. The students were of many elements, shapes, sizes, and ages but... there was only one gender. There was not a single male student here! I shuddered. My grand entrance immediately attracted the attention of others. And being of the opposite gender- added more oil to the fire.

Before I got the chance to run away, a senior caught my wrist, "Are you lost, little brother? Which department are you from?"

The speed I was so proud of became utter useless. And I couldn't reply as my whole body was stiff and sweating.

Seeing me standing silently, she took the papers from my hand and started reading a little loudly,

"Let me see… Aryan Indra, quite a unique name. From Reiden city. 17years old, 180cm tall. Oh wow, Lightning Element, a particular element user. So, you will be sent to…

'Healing Department!'"

I heard her high-pitched scream when mentioning the last part, showing how shocked she was.

Hearing this, others also looked shocked. And newbies like me became confused. Another senior cried out, "That's impossible Emma, did you read it wrong? Or are you playing one of your pranks?" Emma didn't reply. She looked at me one more time before passing my paper to her friend. I couldn't even ask her to return it.

My paper went to all the female students before being returned to Emma. I swear, I heard shocking noises, giggles, and also the noise of lips being licked in that period.

Emma spoke to me in a soft voice, "Don't be scared, little Arian. We don't bite. It's just, our department head had never accepted a male student before. You are the first one to break her own rules."

Only then did I understand why they were so shocked. I relaxed and started telling myself, 'Aryan, they are just giving you rarity value. That's all, don't overthink and be natural. They don't bite.'

Emma interrupted my thoughts,

"A lightning element that can heal others, that's the first time I have heard something like this. Whatever, let me take you to Miss Edna."

Without waiting for my response, she headed inside with my papers in hand. I could only follow her. Soon we reached a hall, where a lady was writing something and telling a new student to use her healing factor on an injured student. And without any errors, every one of them was female.

Emma handed over my papers and stood by her. The lady read it for a few seconds then looked at me,

"So you are that male student. You know, the department head didn't want to accept you. But the Chief of Recruitment hall strongly urged her to take you in. To him, it would be a waste to lose such a unique lighting user. Only after making a deal, did the department head accept you. So, don't disappoint the chief. Now, tell us elaborately- what kind of healing property- lightning can have?"

'So the chief of Recruitment hall is the root of all evil! Damn you, old man. Why would you throw this innocent sheep in this wolf's den.'

I stopped cursing him inwardly, calmed myself down, and replied sincerely,

Stolen novel; please report.

"My lightning stimulates body cells and helps them grow to their peak condition or create new cells by shedding dead ones."

"Oh, creating a new cel. Interesting... Emma, can you bring Alicia over here?"

"Yes! I will be back in a minute." Emma responded. For some reason, I found her excited. She left the room in a hurry and after a couple of minutes, brought another female student with her. The female student, whom Miss Edna addressed as Alicia, had a black veil on her face, and a black hood on her head, and was dressed extremely conservatively as not even her ankle could be seen.

Alicia asked, "Good afternoon, Miss Edna. Did you call me?"

That was an otherworldly voice. I couldn't believe my ears. How can someone's voice be so sweet and calming? To me, her voice was like a gentle breeze, able to soothe any wounded heart. Was she a sound element user? I didn't know. But, as her conversation with Edna continued, just by listening to her voice, all my nervousness from before flew away in an instant.

After exchanging greetings, Miss Edna said, "Hmm, we have a new student who can make new cells grow by shedding old dead cells. If his healing factor is practical like he claims, do you know what that means?"

Hearing Edna, Alicia's body trembled as if a rock was thrown on a calm pond. But she reclaimed her calmness and nodded.

Edna then looked at me,

"A jealous witch, uhum, a strong Fire Elementalist left burn marks on her hands. If you can heal her, it will be a pass. And we will wholeheartedly accept you in the healing department. Can you do it?"

Such an easy test was nothing for a professional healer like me with 3 months of experience.

I nodded in confidence but added, "But I need to touch the patient's burn marks to heal them."

Emma immediately asked, "And why do you need to touch them? Can't you shoot lightning?"

"If I am in direct contact with my patient, I can easily conduct my lightning. But if there is a distance between us, I had to apply force to shoot lightning inside the patient's body. This force can also kill people if they are weak."

Emma interjected, "Kill people? Isn't your factor healing?"

I breathed out and exclaimed, "Even though my lightning can heal people, lightning is still an element of violent force, with the effect of stunting people. If this reaches the brain in a little large amount - you will faint. It can also stop your heart from pumping blood. My lightning's healing factor won't cause these organs any harm, but the stunning effect can make them stop working. DO YOU UNDERSTAND NOW?''

Then I looked at Edna, who was looking at us with an amused expression," Can I proceed with my test?"

Just when I thought Emma understood what I was saying, she took a sharp object from the table and made a deep cut on her forearm. Edna and Alicia were both shocked at her action.

Emma looked at her bloodied hand and then at me as she said,

"Heal me first, little brother ~."

There was pin-drop silence in that room. While others were this watching drama, I was questioning my life. In my little life on 17 years, I met all sorts of people. But these days, weird people took on the top spots quantity list, particularly girls with strange actions.

Nadia would blush even when beaten. Ember would keep poking others, even after being ignored. And now Emma, who cut her forearm and now asking me to heal her.

Even if she said that it was for Alicia's safety, that didn't make sense as many injured patients are waiting to be healed in the healing department. Looks like I need to go home and enroll in Mom's other courses, "How to avoid weird woman?" too.

I sighed and told her to sit down as her hand was still bleeding. I sat on a chair opposite her. She made a really deep cut and looked like she was confident in her property even if I fail to heal her.

I got curious and asked, "What is your element, Miss Emma?"

"Not Miss Emma."

"Huh?"

"Call me Big Sis." Emma made another demand.

'She is teasing me.'

As I understood, I stood up with no intention of healing her. But she was faster again and hurriedly grabbed me.

"Okay, I won't tease you anymore. I am a wood user with True recovery property. Now, heal me fast unless you want to make Miss Edna angry."

Nodding my head, I sat down and cleaned her wound. After the first aid, I squeezed a little elemental energy out of my core and gathered it in my right hand. Crackling golden lightning started coiling my upper hand like a python.

"Ahh." I heard Alicia's little shout that escaped from her mouth. Looks like my majestic lighting impressed this owner of the angelic voice.

As I touched Emma's wound, she reacted to my touch, shivering all over. Just when I thought she would cry in pain, she let out an unexpected sound-

"Ahn~."
