Chapter 22
Adamantium Fortress: Classroom A
The newly high knights listened carefully to their Instructor’s teaching, absorbing everything about the basics of magic.
“The best way to meditate is to divide it into two parts: one in the morning and one in the afternoon. This way, your mind won't be too tired by doing it in one session, and if you want to do your meditation without hindering your daily activity, I suggest doing 2 hours of meditation when you wake up and 3 hours of meditation when you go to sleep, that way you can do it consistently without any worries of forgetting it since everyone sleeps” Instructor Edder said with the students writing it down in their notes.
At the rear of the classroom, there were complimentary notebooks available for the new high knights to use during their lectures. Given the significance of the lectures, all of the new high knights chose to take one.
“Is there any more question before we move on?” Instructor Edder asked, without any student responding, “Good, then let's move on and talk about the Three Innate ability of the Life Flame or your Mana Flame, whatever you call it.
The first innate ability is something that all of you are familiar with: Mana Generation. As its name suggests, with our Life flame, we can generate Mana that we can use for our magic.
Think of Mana, like how a normal flame can generate heat, and for Life Flame, our Mana is like the heat of our Life Flame. The only difference is that we can control Mana.
Now, The more control you have over your life flame, the more Mana you can generate. For example, if you have 87% control, that means you can generate up to 870 mana or 87% of your total Mana. This is why rank one is called untapped potential, as you are unlocking all your untapped potential by controlling your Life flame.
Every 1% of control equals 10 Mana which means once you reach 100%, you will have 1000 Mana, and all of this applies to all ten gates, but that doesn’t mean that your maximum Mana will be 10,000 once you reach stage ten and I will explain that with the second innate ability of the Life flame which is: Flame Synergy.
The flame synergy is the interaction between your life gates that produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects. In other words, the more Life gates you open, the more Mana you will have.
Now, The flame synergy has different phases or levels depending on the number of life gates you open. When you open three of your life gates, it will trigger the first phase of the flame synergy and increase your total Mana by 100%
The idea is that when three of your life gates open, all of them will cooperate and support each other, allowing you to generate more Mana than normal.
So instead of getting a total of 3000 mana, you will get a total of 6000 mana, and in rank one, there is a total of four phases of flame synergy that will help you increase your overall total Mana.
There is a textbook in the library that explain everything about the Three Innate ability of the Life Flame. You can get a copy of that textbook for our future lectures. Still, for now, I am only introducing each of the three innate abilities, so don’t ask questions for now and absorb everything that I am teaching you, and if you can't keep up, that’s all right. I will be explaining it more in our future lectures, but for now, Listen and take notes.”
Deon raised his hand to ask the Instructor, “Excuse me, instructor Edder, but can you please give us the name of the textbook that you mentioned?
“You don’t have to worry about that now. By the end of the lecture, I will be giving you all a list of books that you will all need for our future lectures,” Instructor Edder replied
“Thank you, Instructor,” Deon replied
“Don’t worry about it. Let's move on to the Life flame's third and final Innate ability, Aether Absorption.
The Aether is an energy that flows around our world. It is like the air that fills our world with life and energy. There are many theories about Aether, but for now, just know that it exists and is one of the most important forces in our world, and with our Life flame, we can absorb that force to recover our Mana, making it vital in our ways of magic.
I won't delve much into Aether in our lectures since most of our knowledge about the Aether is theoretical, and we do not need to learn such a thing in our path of knighthood, but if you are curious, I won't discourage you from learning it as you will find many books about it in the library.
Now, everything that I’ve said is just the very basic, and there are more things that all of you need to learn before you can confidently say that you know the basics of magic, but for now, this is a good start. I do not intend for you all to absorb everything in just one lecture, as you will only get confused and forget many things but do not worry. In the next six months, you will learn everything about the basics. There is no need to rush learning, especially about magic.

So how about we end our lecture for today and Instead teach you all how to meditate, or to be precise, I want to see if everyone can meditate properly.”
Many students sighed in relief when they heard what Instructor Edder said about ending the lecture, as many of them were still trying to process everything about the lecture and how the lecture applies to them.
Deon wasn’t overly worried about missing anything during the lecture, as he has a dreamscape that can allow him to recall his memory with perfect clarity, but he still made sure to listen carefully and take notes on anything that he found important.
“Meditating is quite simple. All you have to do is think about the Life flame that you all encounter during the awakening ceremony, and your level of control will naturally increase, but it is also quite tiresome with how long the required meditation is, and if you lose focus during your meditation, your improvement will decrease drastically.
Meditation itself is a technique that is very hard to master, even with its simple concept, and it requires a large amount of discipline to do it properly.
So, How about we go back to the training ground and do our meditation there since this room is quite small for a meditation area” Instructor Edder said as he led the group back to the training ground
…
Adamantium Fortress: Training Ground
In the training ground, all the new high knights sat down with their eyes closed as they meditated in peace.
“Meditation doesn’t have to be conducted in a sitting position. A person can still meditate even if they are lying on the floor or standing up. The main point of meditation is synchronizing your thoughts with your life flame. However, the reason as to why a sitting position is the best position is it allows your body to have a certain comfort but not too comfortable that make your mind drowsy and unfocused, and it can also reflect your state of mind by how proper your sitting is.” Instructor Edder explained
Even though the students were meditating, they still listened to their Instructor, but it also served as their distraction as they couldn’t properly meditate.
Deon didn’t bother meditating and only listened to the Instructor since, with his Dreamscape, he would have no trouble meditating, so he would rather listen to Instructor Edder for any new information that he didn’t know about.
“The best way to meditate without losing your focus is to think about the movement of your life flame and think about it moving the same as a normal fire would move, or imagine yourself having a bonfire on the cold winter night and how that single fire can blow the cold away and give you warmth.”
After hearing what Instructor Edder said, deon wanted to try it out since he had never meditated without his Dreamscape before and wanted to know if there was any difference between meditation without the help of his Dreamscape.
Deon eventually became fully engrossed in meditation, visualizing his life flame flickering like a regular bonfire, swayed by the occasional gust of wind.
Instructor Edder keenly monitored his students as they meditated until lunchtime, thoroughly evaluating their respective abilities in meditation.
…
Adamantium Fortress: Cafeteria
Deon and William sat next to each other as they talked to one another
“Where do you think is the library?” William asked
“I have no idea, but we can look for it after our afternoon training,” Deon replied
“We are not going now? What if the library ran out of books that we need?” William asked
“I don’t think that will happen, and even if they are, I’m sure we can still get a copy,” Deon said as he looked at the list of books that instructor Edder gave them at the end of their class
On the list, there are a total of Six books listed, which were: Magic System, Tree of Life, Art of War, Enhancement Magic, Physical Evolution, Imperial Battle Arts
Deon was somewhat excited about reading all six books as they were recommended by instructor Edder, who said they were the best books for a beginner.
“Still, shouldn’t we at least get it as soon as possible?” William asked, still not convinced about being late for getting the books they need
“Look, we only get 30 minutes of lunch, and I don’t really want to skip our lunch since I don’t want to be hungry during our afternoon training, especially since we don’t know what we are doing. And as you said, we don’t know where the library is, and I don’t think we have enough time to run around the fortress looking for it,” Deon explained.
“I guess”
“You are being too worried for no reason. I don’t think instructor Edder would give us these six books if our library doesn’t have enough books for all of us,” Deon said, completely confident in his reasoning.
“Why do you think instructor Edder put the imperial battle arts on the list? We already learned the Imperial Battle Arts,” Deon asked, changing the topic.
“Hmm? Is it because we haven’t fully mastered our battle arts yet?” William doubtingly replied
“You think so?... Hm… Maybe” Deon ponderingly said, “What’s your mastery in the imperial battle arts?”
“I… I’m close to mastering all the combined weapons, so it won't be long until I reach advanced mastery,” William confidently said
“Oh... That’s good. Maybe we can spar later,” Deon replied
“What about you?” William asked
“I’m at the advance mastery but haven’t fully mastered it yet,” Deon replied
“Oh. No wonder you are the top apprentice knight in our batch,” William said
“What if the imperial battle arts in the list are different from the battle arts in our institute?” Deon asked
“Different? How so?” William asked
“Think about it, Instructor Edder is our Instructor for magic, so it doesn’t make sense if he were to teach us the imperial battle arts, especially since we already know about it. I’m thinking that. Maybe, he will teach us how to apply our Mana or magic to our imperial battle arts. What do you think?” Deon explained
“That makes sense… I could see that. So does that mean we have to relearn everything? Or what?” William asked
“I don’t know, but I don’t think so. I think its more so how to combine our magic to our battle arts, the same way in intermediate mastery where we combine two weapons at once,” Deon said
“Hmm… Hopefully, it is that I don’t really want to relearn everything,” William said
“I hope so too. And why do you think there’s enhancement magic book and magic system book, isn’t kind of the same thing?” Deon asked, immersing his thought in deduction, trying to decipher Instructor Edder’s teaching plan
Deon and William continued their conversation as they ate their lunch. They mostly talked about the list that Instructor Edder gave them.
