Beast Wave (5)

Boom!

Crash!

Pfttuuume!

Achilles redirected another two fire plumes back and quickly killed another two beasts while his father protected him from any close combat encounters. Because of his legs, he could barely stand, so his father set him down and then proceeded to protect him while Achilles focused on the fight and the fire that was being spit by the beasts!

Rust swung his hammer at another of the ball-tail beasts, shattering its tail, which in turn forced it to flee. Luckily, a few of the other ball-tail beasts followed behind it, getting rid of about 10 beasts in one strike!

Rust breathed a sigh of relief as the beast's numbers dwindled and shouted out,”Loominus! Warriors! KILL!”

Both Loominus and the warriors shouted back, “KILL!” and Rust followed that up by grabbing the spear and hurling as hard as he could at some beasts! The spear traveled across the battlefield at extreme speeds, and struck a fire breather directly in the chest! However, this spear did not stop there, and still carrying the struggling soon-to-be corpse of the fire breather, it kept moving forwards and impaled another Goldnes!

The warriors saw this and one of them on the frontline raised his spear high in the air and shouted out,”For the Dwarves!”

To which every dwarf, including Rust and Loominus shouted back,”For the Dwarves!”

Achilles and Perilless on the side could not understand the language of these different creatures, but they could certainly tell what a war cry was! Achilles and Perillees looked at each other, nodded in confirmation, and continued to fight and defend.

Perillees roared out his own,”For the Centaurs!” to which Achilles responded with,”Long live the Centaurs!”.

Rust looked over when he heard a similar war cry from the two strange creatures that were helping them. Why they were helping wasn’t particularly important to Rust but now that the battlefield had thinned out considerably, he was able to finally take a good look at their guests.

Rust was shocked when he finally analyzed their appearances. They had seemingly two separate bodies that were seemingly fused together like two pieces of iron. The top half looked similar to their own physiology, albeit slightly more stretched out and a little more proportioned than their own. Then the lower half was extremely similar to those horned beasts that had attacked them so long ago with light! Those horned creatures were the reason that he had even embarked on the blacksmith path, so when Rust made this connection in his mind, he instantly became more wary. Those beasts were extremely powerful, and even though this creature in front of him was certainly not as powerful, for all Rust knew they were descendants of those creatures.

However, this confused the situation even more for Rust. “Why would those creatures come and help us? Is it because their brethren had attacked us before and they are paying back the favor?”

Rust made up his mind to try and speak with these creatures if he could. As he was mulling over this problem, he suddenly heard from behind him,”Chief! Watch out! Fire breathers!”

Rust's eyes widened as his focus returned to the battlefield, and he saw 4 fire breathers only about 5 feet away from him, fire already loaded in their mouths and ready to fire!

“F***!” Rust yelled as the fire breathers shot out the hot fire at them!

Time seemed to slow for Rust as the events of his life flashed before his life. He saw his wife, he saw his newborn son, and he saw the various weapons he had created for his clansmen. As the fire got closer Rust continued to see his life as if he was doing everything all over again.

When the fire was only a foot away from him, and he could feel the power of death coursing through the fire, it suddenly stopped! Rust was instantly broken out of his reverie as looked at the fire that simply stopped in front of him!

Suddenly Rust heard a scream that was not his clansmen and was in an odd language shout out across from the battlefield. Suddenly the fire retreated from Rust and smashed back into the 4 fire breathers, instantly turning them into ash!

Rust was bewildered with his mouth agape and quickly looked to where the shout came from, only to see that strange creature staring back at him. Rust didn’t know how to thank the creature and so, still slightly shocked, nodded his head in thanks and respect.

What surprised Rust was that the creature seemed to understand him and nodded back! It was as if the creature understood the simple gesture and returned his own!

Rust was now extra confused but decided to put that aside for now, as he had a battle to finish.

The minutes kept bleeding by as the dwarves and centaurs fought side by side against the beasts that were trying to invade! Rust was smashing beasts with his hammer and throwing out his high speed spears as fast as he could. Loominus was running around the battlefield swinging his sword to and fro, and even though he wasn’t actually hitting anything, the sword seemed to carry a heavy wind with it as this “wind” sliced through the beasts easily!

Finally, when the beasts had been whittled down to only about 15, the rest finally had too much pressure and fled!

The dwarves and centaurs didn’t relax until they personally witnessed all the beasts flee further from this area! When there were no longer any beasts in the area, everyone present, no matter that species, race, or gender, heaved a sigh of relief.

Then, as if by pure fate, both Achilles and Rust yelled out,”WE DID IT!!!”

Which was then accompanied by victorious roars! The warriors all screamed and jumped for joy while hugging and holding their comrades. One could also hear from inside the trench shouts of happiness and celebration.

They had done it. They had survived!
