V4 - Chapter 33: Silent Vow

Allan’s heart raced as he moved closer to the source of the light. His breath quickened, and a mix of anticipation and fear swirled within him. The Leviathan’s voice echoed in his mind, a guiding force urging him forward.

The air was heavy with an otherworldly energy, and a sense of reverence hung in the atmosphere. The portal emanated a pulsating blue light, casting an eerie glow on the surroundings. Allan took a deep breath, his heart pounding. The Leviathan’s voice resonated in his mind once more, providing him with a sense of purpose and direction. He approached the portal, his every step guided by an invisible force.

Allan reached out to touch it, his hand passed through as if the solid surface was nothing more than a curtain of mist. As he stepped through the threshold, the blue light enveloped him, its energy flowing through his body like a gentle current. He closed his eyes, allowing the sensation to wash over him. Allan’s body began to glow with a brilliant light, his form blurring as he transcended the boundaries of reality.

As the light reached its zenith, a shockwave rippled outward. Allan’s vision blurred, and he felt himself being pulled through the currents of time and space. The sensation was both exhilarating and disorienting, as if he was traversing dimensions beyond human comprehension.

And then, in an instant, the journey ceased.

Allan's heart raced as he locked eyes with Lily and Brittany. His mind swirled with confusion, and his voice betrayed his astonishment as he stammered, "Lily?! Officer Parker?! What are you doing here?"

Lily's expression turned quizzical, her gaze piercing into him. "Do I know you?" she asked, her brows furrowing.

Allan's heart pounded louder. He parted his lips, ready to explain, but just as he began to form the words, an icy grip seized his vocal cords.

The Leviathan's presence surged, a dark current weaving through his thoughts. It was as if a shadowy hand clamped over his mouth, stifling his attempt to speak. Panic surged within him, his eyes flickering with a mix of determination and frustration.

He fought against the force, his mental struggle akin to pushing against an immovable wall. He tried to push past the constriction, to break through the barrier that held his words captive. But the Leviathan's influence was relentless, its power silencing his attempts like a cruel master quashing a rebellion. Allan's brows furrowed in a blend of defiance and desperation. His gaze locked with Lily's, his eyes pleading, as if hoping she could somehow see the truth beyond the turmoil that gripped him.

It was a battle within his own mind, a clash of wills. He strained against the invisible chains that held his voice hostage, his frustration mounting with each passing second. As seconds stretched into what felt like an eternity, Allan's shoulders sagged, and his gaze wavered. The Leviathan's grip remained unyielding, an unspoken reminder of the force that held dominion over his very being. In that moment, he found himself trapped — unable to express, unable to connect, a prisoner to the enigmatic force that had interwoven itself with his existence.

As he tried to wrap his head around what was happening, the Leviathan's booming voice filled the air, drowning out any other thoughts. It declared that Allan was the chosen leader and everyone should bow before him. It was a command that seemed to bend the will of everyone except Brittany, Lily, and Blondie.

Amidst this supernatural proclamation, Brittany's resistance stood firm. Her defiant posture contrasted with the rest of the Shadow Walkers who knelt in unison before Allan, the chosen leader. The scene that played out was surreal, the once menacing assembly now submitting to a stranger.

Allan's thoughts swirled with confusion, his mind grappling to comprehend the enigma before him. Questions formed, words poised on his lips, but his ability to articulate was silenced by the Leviathan's dominance. His internal voice was crushed by an invisible weight, leaving him unable to convey the tangled web of emotions and thoughts swirling within.

Around him, the Shadow Walkers bowed their heads in deference, their actions a testament to the Leviathan's supremacy. Yet, Brittany, Lily, and Blondie remained steadfast, standing tall against the encroaching tide of conformity.

The puzzled voice of Blondie cut through the atmosphere, carrying a blend of skepticism and disbelief. "What is the Leviathan doing? Didn't he just kill you guys and take your souls?"

Brittany's attempt to respond met a barrier—the Leviathan's iron grip on her autonomy. Her voice was restrained, her capacity to answer snuffed out by the powerful entity that held sway over her mind.

The Leviathan's influence took hold of Brittany completely, her body yielding like a puppet whose strings had suddenly slackened. Lily reacted swiftly, rushing to Brittany's side with a mixture of desperation and alarm etched across her face. A palpable sense of panic filled the air.

After a few minutes, Brittany's lifeless form began to show signs of reawakening. Her eyelids quivered before finally parting, her gaze fixing upon her perplexed comrades. Concern and bewilderment mingled on their faces, a reflection of the uncertainty that now challenged their shared connection.

Blondie's voice, laden with worry, broke the silence, "Are you okay?"

Brittany's words trembled, her voice bearing the weight of a fierce internal struggle. "No," she managed, breathless, "I can’t resist the Leviathan's command anymore. I feel like I've lost myself."

Lily's voice cut through the uncertainty, a steady reassurance in her tone, "You're still you, Brittany! You just used your powers to fight him off. Don't let him control you anymore. Just remember who you are."

Blondie's declaration added to the chorus of support, a steadfast determination lacing his words, "Yeah! If he's controlling you, he doesn't really own you! You are your own person. Not him."

Allan absorbed their words, his own thoughts mingling with theirs. He recognized the intensity of Brittany's inner struggle, a battle against a force that sought to consume her identity.

Amid their camaraderie, doubt lingered like a shadow in the periphery. Could Brittany truly defy the Leviathan? Could she harness the strength to resist its insidious control and reclaim her sense of self?

Lily's voice broke through the uncertainty, a spark of hope igniting within it, "There’s one thing I know will work to dampen the influence of the Leviathan. He has a lesser influence on Earth."

Brittany's gaze fixed on the portal, her decision solidifying with each passing heartbeat. She stepped forward, extending her hand to touch the portal's surface. Its energies reacted, rippling beneath her touch, a gateway to another world.

Allan's awareness remained attuned, his understanding clear even as uncertainty shrouded the scene. Brittany's hesitation yielded to determination, and she made her choice. Stepping into the portal, she embraced the unknown, leaving behind the haunting control of the Leviathan for a chance at salvation.

The Leviathan's screeching command reverberated through Allan's mind, urging him to follow Brittany through the portal and bring his new loyal Shadow Walkers along. The urgency in its voice was palpable, a relentless demand that brooked no hesitation.

Allan's gaze shifted from Brittany's retreating figure to the perplexed faces of Lily and Blondie. His heart pounded as he grappled with the conflicting desires within him. He hesitated for a moment, torn between the urgency of the Leviathan's command and the yearning in his heart to reveal who he was to his former girlfriend.

Allan's mind raced as he stood at the crossroads of two choices, each pulling him in a different direction. The Leviathan's screeching command echoed relentlessly, compelling him to follow Brittany and ensure his newfound loyal followers, the Shadow Walkers, trailed behind him.

Yet, as he glanced at Lily's puzzled expression and Blondie's questioning look, his heart wavered. A surge of emotions cascaded through him, memories of his past life entwined with the present reality. He longed to disclose his identity to Lily, to bridge the chasm between them that time had carved so ruthlessly.

His internal struggle was a tempest, torn between duty and sentiment. The urgency in the Leviathan's command gnawed at him, its insistence unyielding. And yet, the desire to reveal himself tugged at his soul with an equally fierce intensity.

Allan's mind raced, his heart pounded, and in that pivotal moment, he made his choice. The Leviathan's orders could not be ignored, but neither would the chance to reconnect with the woman he had loved.

With a resolute nod, Allan moved forward, his strides purposeful. The Shadow Walkers and the Voidspawn followed, their loyalty to him unwavering. Drawing closer to the portal, he turned his gaze to Lily and conveyed a wordless vow to himself before he ventured forward.

I'll come back for you.

He crossed the threshold, setting forth on a journey that would determine the destiny of the Leviathan's intricate schemes.
