Brittany walked away from the Coven compound and headed east. She stopped when she heard noises behind her. Looking in the direction of the noise, she saw another pack of Saber Wolves, but this time they ignored her presence.
She waited patiently until they passed by. Then she resumed walking, but she noticed something strange. She couldn't hear the sound of her footsteps. She looked down and saw that her feet weren't leaving any footprints in the dirt. She was perplexed.
As she walked, she saw some odd looking trees. There were large leaves growing from the trunks of the trees, and they looked almost like mushrooms. She walked closer to investigate and realized that the plants were in fact mushrooms. They grew from the ground and emitted a rotten stench.
She moved on in the direction Raul had indicated she would find the demons. She wanted to hurry, but she knew that if she did she wouldn't be able to find any. It was hard to determine where exactly the demons were hiding. Finally, she noticed a huge hole in the ground.
She approached cautiously and peered inside. Suddenly, there was a loud screeching noise and a mass of bats flew out of the cave.
"Ugh." Brittany grunted.
Bats!
She turned around and headed back in the direction that she had come from. Eventually, she found the entrance to the caves. She entered cautiously. In the darkness, she could barely see a few dozen rats scampering about.
Suddenly, she felt something brush against her leg. She looked down and saw a rat staring back at her. It was scared and didn't seem aggressive, so she took a deep breath and grabbed it by the tail. With a quick yank, she pulled it off her leg and threw it onto the ground.
"Yuck!" She exclaimed. "I hate rats."
Brittany walked deeper into the cave. She noticed a large pile of bones nearby.
"I wonder what happened to these people?" She murmured.
Suddenly, she heard a low growl coming from behind her.

The creature growled again, and then lunged at her.
She jumped back and ran as fast as she could.
The demon growled once more. Brittany started to run faster, but suddenly, she tripped on something and fell to the ground. The demon was on top of her. She struggled underneath it, trying to reach for her sword, but the beast overpowered her easily with it's scalding touch.

The demon lifted her up into the air. She kicked and thrashed, breaking free from its grip. She quickly unsheathed her sword, noticing it’s glow.

With her sword at the ready, she turned to face the demon. It roared angrily at her and charged.
"Die demon!" Brittany commanded.
The demon pounced at her, but Brittany caught it by the neck and slammed it against the wall.

"Woah!" Brittany gasped.
She slowly sat up and saw that the demon was gone.
She looked around and saw a crater in the ground where the demon had stood moments ago. The walls of the cave were charred and blackened.
"That was close." She said to herself.
"Great job!" Came a voice from behind her.
Brittany turned around and saw Sam and Raul standing there at the entrance to the cave with looks of approval on their faces.
"Thank you." She said.
"We're just happy you survived." Sam said.
"Yeah, we weren't sure how well you'd do." Raul added. "But I think we can count you among us now."
Brittany smiled. "Thanks."
"Now get some rest. Tomorrow we'll begin the real training." Raul instructed.
"Yeah, alright." Brittany agreed.
She took a deep breath and let it out as she walked back toward the Coven compound.
