V2 - Chapter 50: Death Duel

Brittany hesitated, but knew she had no choice so she selected "Yes".

Davion positioned himself in a fighting stance. Brittany stood opposite of him. She closed her eyes and pictured the element of light. At once, the sphere appeared in front of her, floating in midair.

"Come on, then!" Davion shouted. "Are you really ready to die?"

Brittany exhaled and summoned the element of light. It glowed brightly, illuminating the area.

"Go ahead, Brittany!" Davion taunted. "Show me what you've got!"

Brittany glared at him and unleashed her magic. The ball of light expanded and shot across the sky, then it hit Davion square in the chest.

The ball of light dissipated instantly, and Brittany fell to her knees in pain.

"Ha!" Davion laughed. "I told you! You don't stand a chance against me!"

He charged at her and grabbed her by the throat. Then he raised a hand and blasted her with a barrage of fireballs.

"No!" Brittany screamed. "Please, no!"

She shielded her face with her hands and endured the heat.

When the barrage ended, she looked down at her hands, which were charred black and covered in blisters.

"You should have listened to Raul," Davion said. "You're just wasting your time."

He released her and backed off.

"You can't possibly win this fight, Brittany." he claimed. "You'll lose, and you know it. There's no point in trying."

"Oh, yeah?" Brittany shouted. "Can you do this?"

She summoned the element of Air, and blasted him with a gust of wind. She knew that this would be the most difficult element for her to control, and she struggled to keep her focus.

"Interesting." Davion observed. "A high-level elemental attack. Good luck controlling that. In fact, you're not even using it properly."

He raised his hands, and the air froze in his palms. He pointed his palm at Brittany, and the breeze intensified. Then it became a blizzard. He unleashed the winds, and they pelted Brittany with hail.

Brittany blocked the onslaught of icy pellets by holding her arms over her head. She trembled in agony. Her clothes were soaked in ice water, and she could barely breathe.

"That's enough!" Davion commanded. "Enough with the Air Element!"

He released the gales, and Brittany collapsed on the ground.

"You've lost, Brittany." Davion announced. "Prepare to die.”

“I'm not losing!" she screamed.

Brittany pushed herself to her feet. She conjured the element of fire and summoned a ball of flame above her head. The flames swirled around her, and she summoned the element of Air at the same time to create a whirlwind.

"Die, Davion!" she roared. "Burn to ash!"

The flaming whirlwind engulfed Davion, and he was lifted into the air. His eyes widened, surprised by her sheer power. She took his moment of distraction to unsheath her sword which glowed brilliantly, alerting to the high presence of Shadow Walkers in the area.

Rushing forward, she struck hard with a powerful swing of her blade.

She gazed at Davion's remains, taking note that despite the gaping hole in his chest there was no oozing blood. The fiery tornado dissipated with a wave of her hand.

"That's what you get!" she declared triumphantly.

She looked at her hands, and saw the blisters but otherwise they were unharmed. Then she looked down. The grass and dirt had been destroyed by the firenado she had created.

Sam reappeared, bowing before her.

"That was incredible!" Sam proclaimed. "I never thought you could pull that off!"

"Thank you." Brittany replied.

"You were amazing!" he added. "I mean, I knew you had it in you, but I didn't think you'd actually show it! You are truly talented. I can't believe you survived that!"

Brittany shrugged, "I didn't want to fight him, but he really gave me no choice."

“I must go summon the rest of the Coven to meet their new Leader.” Sam announced and turned toward the woods.

“Hey, wait!" Brittany called after him. "What about Davion? Shouldn't we bury him?"

"Don't worry." Sam replied. "We'll take care of that later. Right now, we need to celebrate. You've earned it!"

He ran into the forest.

Brittany stood there for a moment, staring at the corpse. She still couldn’t believe Davion was actually gone.

"Well, well, well…" Raul said from behind her. "It looks like we have ourselves a new Coven Leader."

Brittany whirled around and glared at him.

"You left me high and dry.” she accused. "You abandoned me! I almost died!”

"I had no other choice. I couldn't let my personal feelings get in the way of the Coven Code. I had to uphold its standards. And I did what had to be done. Now, it's your turn."

Raul strode forward. He stared at her, and she stared back.

“You must take on your new role as Coven Leader.” he declared, bowing before her in reverence. "Welcome to the Coven. I hope you live long enough to fulfill your destiny.”

"What destiny?"

"You'll learn soon enough." Raul smirked, "The Leviathan will speak to you."

Moments later, a large throng of Shadow Walkers appeared in the clearing. They lined up in a row and bowed to Brittany, offering their respect.

"Hail, Leader of the Coven!" they chanted.

"Hail, Leader of the Coven!"

"Hail, Leader of the Coven!"

Brittany looked at Raul, stunned. How could she lead such a group of people? They worshipped her, but at the same time they feared her. She had to be strong, and she needed to remain impartial.

"My name is Brittany." she said with a forced smile. "And I'm your new Leader."
