I gave up on that idea the moment Merlé attacked us.
She was wielding a scythe just like my sister which made me question some stuff, but at that moment I was more busy trying not to turn into nothingness.
Merlé was a strong individual, that I can say for sure. My sister, who was supposed to be a pro at fighting, was having difficulties in holding her back. But I mean, it was understandable, Merlé was being very violent. I guess she did not like us betraying her boss.
I made a run for it, leaving my sister behind. I figured I should help Mily fight Jeanette, but at the time I arrived Mily was nowhere to be seen and instead Midari was busy shooting the woman.
,,Midari!” I yelled ,,Where’s Mily?!”
Midari turned to me and winked. I understood now. Everyone was covering her, while Mily was making a run for it.
But Jeanette was mortal. Why couldn’t we just kill her?
I heard a distant scream and I saw Millie charging towards Jeanette. In the other side of the room I saw Erika fighting Klara, who was trying to shoot her.
It looked like everyone was here (including our companions. When Millie left Merlé, Wendy and Kevin started fighting her), except my brother. I assumed he ran away just like I did.
I tried helping Midari but Jeanette was surprisingly fast. She did not wield any weapon and she managed to dodge every single attack. But then I remembered, this was just a distraction. Midari was holding back. Erika was holding back.
Why was everyone holding back? It annoyed me very much. If you have power, use it, don’t just stand there looking pretty.
I did not have full control over my ability and to be honest, I didn’t really want to. I was too lazy to even care about fighting or magic.
As I stood there thinking about all of that (a not very wise decision. I should’ve been more careful) Janette saw this as an opportunity and with nothing but bare hands she approached me, ready to tear my soul to shreds.
Millie probably noticed that and ran towards Jeanette. As Millie touched her, her teleporting abilities returned and she accidentally transported both of them somewhere else.
,,Ok, wow. What just happened?” Midari was confused. She scratched her head.
,,I think Millie accidentally teleported Jeanette and herself away.”
,,Well, if I were you, I’d check outside. Because there’s literally 32 feet from here to the front of the house. I counted.”
I ruffled her hair.
,,Smart Midari.” She made a happy sound.
,,Ok let’s go together…” she said but Merlé caught up with us and smacked her right in the head.
,,That’s not very nice” Midari made a sad face.
I took this opportunity to run away, again. I had to find Millie and help her.

I found Millie lying unconscious on the ground. Her eyes were wide open, but instead of her normal eyes (as normal as they can be for a Reaper like herself) they were…static. Like the static that appears on TV when you’ve got a terrible connection. It’s the sign you need to spend money at the TV shop.
I shook my sister. She mumbled something and then screamed. Crouching next to her, I tried slapping her to see if she’d wake up.
I tried acting cool, even though her eyes and screams scared the shit out of me. She convulsed and then screamed again. She was shaking all over and golden energy (something like human saliva) started pouring out of her open mouth.
I was sure Jeanette did this to her. What was this terrifying thing…?
,,Millie!” I yelled out ,,Hello?! Millie! Wake up!”
I suddenly had flashbacks. I remembered that for one year I tried to wake her up. I remembered how I’d break down next to the coffin Lord had placed her in.
I felt guilt.
Millie was shaking and mumbling. I slapped her and shook her but nothing worked. I felt powerless.
,,That’s because you are powerless” my evil version whispered.
I looked around. If I could find Jeanette and kill her, surely her ability, or whatever she did to Millie, would be cancelled out.
Just as I was about to turn around to get a better view of my surroundings, a hand grabbed me by the hair and pulled me backwards. I fell on my back in a very awkward position.
Jeanette was staring at me, only she looked worse than Evil Luna. Her body was a lot taller (she was tall before. She was a lot taller now. No comment.) and she reminded me of that one character with the suit that looked like a tall tree. I cringed at the thought.
,,Where. Is. Mily?” Jeanette asked in a creepy voice. I cringed more.
,,How would I know?”
,,You’re her friend, you should know.”
,,Extremely bold of you to assume we’re friends. Very bold, and a bit stupid if I may say so.”
,,What?”
,,You heard me. Now eat this!”
I teleported behind her (Go Eli go for giving me my teleportation back!) and stabbed her through the stomach. She convulsed and arched her back in pain.

,,You…!” she yelled before falling down, her pretty face hitting the dirt.
,,Haha. Luna 1, Jeanette 0!” I laughed and pulled my katana back. Millie was still in that state though…
I rushed to her again. She was convulsing, as if she were having an epileptic seizure.
Then, I heard noise from behind me. I jumped up. There stood Jeanette in all her glory, alive.
I swung my sword towards her in an attempt to protect myself and Millie.
,,You... you're still alive... aren't you?! THIS TIME I'LL FINISH YOU FOR GOOD!" I yelled at Elliott's boss. The woman seemed undisturbed. Instead, she took a step forward, ready to turn me into nothingness.
,,BOOM" a voice yelled. I didn't know in which direction I should look. Then I noticed him. But before I could take a closer look at the boy, the woman exploded. I was in shock. The woman's blood was everywhere and so were her organs and everything. The explosion wasn't enough to destroy all of them.
The most horrific thing, because I wasn't afraid of blood and such, was the fact that Jeanette got blown up from the inside. The explosion started in her stomach, extending through the whole body.
I turned my head around and saw Lord.
I slowly turned my whole body towards Lord. He had his right arm raised. Noticing me staring at him, he lowered his hand. Lord truly looked evil, just like Mily.
,,Hey! Did she touch Millie?" Lord rushed to my sister ,, Alright" he added and patted her head.
The static noise in Millie's eyes disappeared, leaving her asleep.
,,I told you to be careful, remember? You didn't stand a chance Luna."
I was glad to see that Millie was ok now, and no, I didn’t remember him warning me. But looking at Lord, I could only replay the image of the explosion in my head over and over again.
,,I don’t recall you giving me advice” I told him, then crouched next to Millie. I brushed her bangs out of her eyes.
,,Is she going to be ok? What happened to her? Why are you here? Where’s Mily? Is Saki with her?”
,,Oh my librarian, you ask a bunch of questions” Lord replied with his kid attitude ,,I don’t know where Mily and Saki are. Millie is going to be fine, Jeanette is finally dead and I’m here because I felt bad for lying. And I realized I had to get you guys out of the mess Mily dragged you in.”
,,What was she trying to steal? I assume you found out.”
Lord crouched next to me, staring at Millie.
,,Our favorite witch stole some kind of ingredient for a revival spell. You know about her goal of reviving Betty…”
,,Everyone knows, yeah. And Jeanette owned the ingredient?” I said, trying not to look at the pile of organs on the ground.
,,Indeed. I read Mily’s notes and her plan was to get the ingredient all along. It’s the last one she needs for the spell.”
,,So Mily used the fact that our brother is here to her advantage.”
,,Yep. Pretty smart right?”
,,Kinda, yeah.”
,,Uh..am I interrupting some sort of sibling bonding time?” Millie asked. She had woken up.
,,No, ew” I said. Millie hugged me.
,,Oh thank the universe you’re ok!” she said, sobbing a bit.
,,What? Why? Huh? What’s with the sudden change of attitude?”
Millie slightly pulled away and stared at me. She was crying (even thought we don’t cry tears).
,,Let me guess” Lord tried looking smart like Saki ,,You were trapped in a nightmare in which something bad happened to Luna. Or that brother of yours.”
,,Yeah…I had this strange dream that I don’t want to share.”
,,But hey, I’m here now!” I reassured her.
,,LORD!” Mily yelled. The kid turned around and ran towards her, basically hugging her dress.
Behind her, Saki was carrying my sibling, who looked kind of dead.
My best guess was that Jeanette sent him after the witchy duo and he got hurt. Saki probably insisted to bring him back and Mily couldn’t possibly have resisted her friend’s pleas.
,,Mily! I’m never staying home alone again!” the kid cried ,,I hate being alone!”
,,But you’re an introvert…”
,,So what, I hate being alone, I hate people and they drain me, but I don’t want to get lonely!” he cried.
Mily hesitantly patted his head.
,,Elliott!” Millie yelled. Yep, he was so dead.
,,He’s alive don’t worry” Saki told us.
,,Did Jeanette die?” he then asked.
Lord nodded, still holding Mily’s dress.
,,Oh Lord…” Saki said ,,I’m living with murderers. Lord, I know it was you who did it, but you have to stop. Killing isn’t nice.”
,,Yes understood” Lord listened to him. If he’d listen to me like that too, we’d have a wonderful relationship.
,,Wait till Merlé hears about this…she’s going to have a breakdown.”
And a breakdown she had indeed!
After Mily did her oh-so-powerful incantations and nursed my brother back to life, we all sat down in their living room (it was obviously not as pretty as ours. We have the best living room).
Poor Merlé fainted when she heard that Jeanette was dead. Emma slapped her twice and she came back to her senses.
,,She’s…dead?!”
,,Breathe Merlé, breathe…” Klara told her.
Erika and Midari were grinning like psychos. Kevin and Wendy couldn’t care less. And Edgar was mumbling something about Elizabeth having changed Jeanette’s destiny.
Merlé was crying. I felt bad for her, but at the same time I was glad Jeanette was dead. Though the way she was killed disturbed me.
Mily was enjoying a cup of tea, not caring about anything. She still had the ingredient she stole.
,,What are you going to do now?” Midari asked ,,Sorry we killed your boss, but she was a weirdo…”
Merlé did not look pleased with Midari’s comment, but she decided to stay quiet.
,,Wait, I still don’t understand what Jeanette’s ability is” I announced.
Merlé was the one who answered.
,,She could give people nightmares. Their worst fears coming to life in form of dreams.”
,,Basic and scary” Midari said ,,I like it. I like basic stuff. I like weird stuff too. But that means I liked Jeanette too, because she was weird. Does that mean I was in love with her? NO, WORSE (!) DOES THAT MEAN WE WERE ACTUALLY SOULMATES?!”
,,Midari” Erika quieted her down ,,You think too much.”
,,I do…don’t I…hm…BUT I DON’T WANT TO BE SOULMATES WITH THAT GIRLIE UHFFOPEWIFOIJRUFHEFOKOIF!”
Here Midari really started saying random letters. I can’t really reproduce what she said, so I just said random letters as well. Hope you enjoyed.
,,Ok ok stop it, we got it.”
,,Well then” Mily finished her tea ,,Let’s go back to the school.”
,,Not until you give back what you stole” Merlé told her. Mily didn’t bother to answer her and stood up. She signaled us to get up.
,,We’ll meet here after you pack your stuff” the witch said and turned around, leaving to her and Saki’s room.
I followed my sister back to ours and we started packing our stuff.
,,Hey Millie…”
,,Yes?”
,,What did you see in your nightmare?”
She looked around uncomfortably.
,,I’m sorry…I shouldn’t have asked…”
,,Yeah, you shouldn’t have. Just so you know, it was terrible” Millie packed a shirt and placed it in her suitcase.
,,I’m sorry...”
She looked at me and then hugged me.
,,Listen, I hate you. But you’re my little sister and I couldn’t stand seeing you get hurt. So promise you won’t be so reckless anymore.”
I hugged her back.
,,I can’t guarantee I won’t be reckless.”
,,Am I interrupting some sibling bonding?”
We let go and faced the door. Our half-dead brother was standing in the doorway.
,,You’re awake!”
,,I suppose I am. Do tell me if I was interrupting something.”
,,You weren’t interrupting anything” my sister assured him.
,,You’ll be gone soon. I think I’m going to miss the two of you.”
Millie cracked a smile.
,,You’ve grown attached to us.”
,,I guess? I am your brother after all” Elliott chuckled.
Millie gestured him to take a seat and he did as instructed.
I sat next to him.
,,Hey Elliott? There’s something I’ve been meaning to ask you…recently we’ve encountered a girl named Lyla and she claimed to be our sister. We remember you a bit but not her.”
,,Lyla…?” he thought for a moment ,,I have no idea. I could look into it, if you two want me to. It’s no big deal.”
,,You could? I mean I guess we could do that too, now that the curse is broken…”
,,There’s no need to. I’ll do it for you. I have nothing to do anyway…”
,,There’s one more thing I don’t understand” I told him ,,How did you end up here?”
,,When I ran away Jeanette found me. She used to pay me for my services.”
,,What kind of services?” Millie asked him.
,,Guess” he said in an amused manner.
,,Are you secretly a very powerful sorcerer??” I guessed.
My brother laughed at my response. I decided to team up with Klara and play pranks on him.
Millie snickered and then laughed out loud.
,,Yeah imagine Elliott with a beard and a sorcerer staff.”
From downstairs Saki yelled saying that we should hurry up. By evening we were home.
