Part 2, Chapter 8

The week was coming to an end.

I was getting along with my brother very well and soon enough almost all my memories of him returned. Odd thing, Millie started remembering him as well at the same pace I did.

We spent our days together, playing pranks on Klara and making her pay for all the times she’s tripped Elliott.

Midari was starting to have fun too, Merlé being the person she chose to spend her time with. Merlé was the one Midari told us was kind of nice, but indeed, just as Midari also added, Merlé always followed orders without questioning them.

Emma was simply annoying. I remembered that I once knew a girl who was just like her, talkative and naïve, but at the same time kind and elegant. I’m a big fan of people with the kinds of clothes she wore.

On Friday we were supposed to help with cooking.

,,I’m sure you’re very skilled at cooking” Jeanette told me and Millie. We both gulped, because we weren’t. The fun part was that Millie came up with an escape plan and we ended up having a picnic together without our companions (Though Wendy made a fuss because Millie left her alone).

That evening we went back to our room. Millie took a seat on her bed, while I jumped in mine.

My twin took out the book Wendy got her from Salem. Now that I thought about it, Wendy and Kevin never took the time to tell us about how their trip went.

Millie was ignoring me. I got that for a (secret) Reaper like her she was very interested in the different types of souls and auras and stuff like that. But she was ignoring me.

I looked around and had a lovely idea. Grabbing an object and throwing it at her I yelled:

,,Pillow fight!”

Millie dodged it like a pro, then closed her book, grabbed the pillow and threw it back at me. I didn’t have time to react and got hit straight in the face.

Millie smirked and threw her own pillow, hitting me again. I laughed and tried smacking her back, but I never succeeded. It wasn’t fair, why couldn’t normal ghosts have crazy reflexes as well?

We finished the so called fight dropping on the carpet and laughing. I didn’t want the moment to end, but unfortunately it did, because Millie stood up. She offered me a hand and helped me rise.

Millie always had a sad expression on her face, that’s why I was surprised everytime she cracked a smile.

,,That was surprisingly fun.”

If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

,,Little sisters can be fun too” I told her ,,We should call Elliott to fight with us next time.”

,,Nahh, he wouldn’t like it. He would just ruin our fun. Let’s keep this a twin thing.”

My twin was so cool. I liked having an older sister. And a brother, but he wasn’t as cool.

,,Anyway…want to steal some snacks from the kitchen?”

Because she didn’t eat souls (actually she did, but like only two a month) she needed to take energy from external sources.

Ghost food is made out of elemental energy, that’s what Saki told me. It wasn’t as powerful as a soul’s energy, but it could replenish it.

Millie had to eat a lot of it because she was constantly out of energy from not eating what she was supposed to eat. But alas, Reapers are just build differently.

I nodded and we slowly made our way to the kitchen.

While we passed through the many corridors of the house, I saw an open door and recognized it as being the door to Jeanette’s office.

I stopped my sister and took a peek inside, only to see half of Jeanette’s stuff on the floor. It looked worse than Midari’s room.

,,Whoa what happened here…?” I was about to ask but Millie grabbed my arm and we hid behind a corner.

,,Ouch…” I said even though the way she pulled me did not hurt one bit.

,,Shhh” she shushed me again.

Klara was walking down the hallway. Her hair was loose and messy and she had pajamas on. She was walking like a zombie.

Our human, because she was alive, went inside Jeanette’s office only to exit while screaming:

,,Jeanette! Someone trashed your office!”

Millie took my hand and teleported us away, back to our room.

,,What just happened?” I asked her. She looked at the door then back at me. Standing up she pressed her ear against the door.

Returning, she looked at me.

,,Maybe it’s time to tell you why Mily is really here.”

I forgot Mily was here for something. And I couldn’t believe she told Millie.

,,What is she here for?”

,,A missing ingredient that Jeanette owns. That’s what she told me…”

,,AHA!” a sudden voice yelled. I turned around and saw Emma standing behind me on the bed.

,,Emma?” I was a bit surprised.

,,Her indeed!” she said ,,I knew you two were up to something when I saw you hide in the hallway.”

,,Oh uhm…” my sister grabbed poor Emma and held her hand over her mouth ,,You’ll shut up, will you?”

Emma said something but I didn’t understand what.

,,It’s ok” Millie said ,,You just gotta be quiet, understand?”

Emma looked terrified. Perhaps she had realized that Millie was in fact a Reaper and that she could send Emma’s soul flying towards Hell. I imagined Hell’s queen laughing.

We heard a loud noise coming from the hallway and as me and my sister shifted out attention towards the door Emma made her escape. She ran (she could’ve teleported, but I don’t understand why she didn’t) calling out for Jeanette.

Millie cursed but remained still. She was in deep thought about what we should do next.

Now that Emma escaped in such an easy manner we were doomed. Jeanette would discover what Mily was actually up to. And because Emma saw us, Jeanette would have probably thought that Millie and me were also guilty.

More than that, our brother would have felt betrayed. Imagine your two sisters are actually traitors and they want nothing more than to steal from your boss. How does that feel?

,,How do we get out of here?” I asked Millie. She grabbed my hand and we tried teleporting, but it did not work. I had a feeling Elizabeth had something to do with that.

,,Well the best thing we can do now is to run for our deaths” she said ,,Grab your sword, we’re going to fight some people.”

I took out the katana out of thin air and nodded, signaling I was ready. I could hear angry voices and the sound of fighting from downstairs.

If Mily was in trouble, then we should have helped her, as her fellow ghosts.
