The next thing I knew, I was running with Millie towards the exit.

While I was busy making sure that I won’t forget that woman’s name, we got a telepathic message from Saki, saying that me and Millie should meet him at the school entrance. I was wondering where he was, because he wasn’t with us when Elizabeth appeared.

As soon as we got the message, Millie grabbed my hand and we started running towards the entrance. Elizabeth had disabled all teleportation methods, including most of Mily’s spells, which wasn’t really fair, but I don’t think it mattered to her anyway.

I looked back one last time and saw Midari summoning a green lightning bolt and yanking it towards Elizabeth.

,,Luna don’t look back, just run!” my sister yelled at me and I did as told. We sprinted towards the exit, where we saw Saki trying to chant something.

,,Millie!” he shouted ,,There’s a problem and I’ll make this as short as possible!” Saki motioned us to look through a window, next to the entrance.

I looked outside and saw…Elizabeth?

,,Huh?” was the only thing Millie could say. Saki took a deep “breath” and explained:

,,The Elizabeth in the school yard isn’t actually Elizabeth. It’s more like a clone she made. The real Elizabeth is right there” he motions to the window.

,,I don’t get it” I said ,,Why is she outside? Shouldn’t she be fighting to get her quill back?” I looked back at Elizabeth. In front of the school was a street with different kinds of shops, including a coffee shop. Elizabeth was standing next to a table and talking to someone who sat down. I moved a little closer to the window to see who she was talking to.

,,EDGAR?! I yelled.

,,Not so loud Luna!” Saki scolded me ,,Yeah it’s Edgar. Elizabeth brought him here.”

,,But the fake Elizabeth in the school yard told us that she left him at the library? Whatever that means” Millie informed him.

,,The library is, obviously, the place where the librarians operate. Where they write people’s destines etc. Elizabeth isn’t stupid enough to let an ex-librarian, also known as Edgar, alone there. He could still do some stuff even if he’s dead. Change some destinies you know…that’s probably why she brought him here. But she couldn’t risk bringing him inside the school, for two reasons: one, we’d try to steal him, second, Luna you could call his soul back to you. But because he’s outside the school you can’t do that.”

,,Let me guess” Millie tried ,,Because of the curse?”

,,Exactly. Now, we need to get to Edgar. Elizabeth knows that none of us can break the curse but…”

,,Wait a minute. I know you and Mily told us that you don’t know who placed the curse on us. But wasn’t it Elizabeth?”

,,No, it wasn’t. Elizabeth does not control this curse. Therefore, I found a way we can break it” Saki explained, although he was getting more nervous by the minute.

,,I think I know how too” Millie said ,,But I’m not sure how it’s supposed to work, because we don’t have anyone here who’s a reaper” she told Saki.

,,We don’t have a what?” I exclaimed.

,,I’ll explain this term to you later” Millie turned to Saki ,,what’s the plan?”

Saki cleared his throat. In time, I noticed he only did what when he was about to tell a lie, but my sister hasn’t noticed it yet.

,,Well I read that uhm…if I cast a certain spell on your scythe…” he was clearly lying ,,then we could..mimic the abilities of a reaper and…and you can break the curse for us…so..are you up to it?”

In my whole entire life I’d never seen Saki lie so much. Though, he had somehow managed to fool my sibling.

,,Alright” Millie pointed her pure white scythe at him and Saki gulped.

I think I forgot to mention that Millie’s weapon is a scythe? I hope I didn’t.

Saki started chanting something in latin but I couldn’t understand and neither could Millie. So I’m assuming it was just a fake spell or something.

Nothing happened but Saki nodded towards Millie. She took a few steps back and frowned. She motioned us to get further from the door and so we did.

I could see she was nervous. Her hands very shaking a little bit. Never in my life had I seen her so stressed, not even when she killed herself. When she jumped off the school, she had been calm, looking as if she didn’t regret a thing.

She squeezed the scythe, infusing it with her fire, the exact same way I did when I defended her from those bullies.

Millie looked at us one last time and then ran towards the door, swinging her weapon. I didn’t get what she was about to do and her actions surprised me.

She hit the door with the tip of the scythe as hard as she could.

Next to me, Saki chanted a spell and made some kind of shield around us. I looked around, not understanding why he did it, but then it hit me.

Around us, I could see a white wall that I never saw before and by the looks of it, it looked like it surrounded the school. When Millie hit the door, she actually smashed the invisible wall.

Having smashed it, the wall started crumbling into pieces, hitting the floor with a loud noise. I could hear another of Midari’s shrieks from outside.

The broken structure started evaporating soon enough and Saki chanted the shield surrounding us away, going towards Millie, who seemed frozen in place.

,,Millie!” he yelled and she turned to face us. Then I noticed it.

Her eyes weren’t the same as before and they didn’t resemble the eyes ghosts had whenever they got angry or used too much of their power. Our eyes turn black and our irises turn the color of our soul. Instead, Millie’s eyes were completely white.

Soon enough, her eyes returned to normal, but she didn’t seem to notice the change.

,,Saki! I did it!” she looked overjoyed. Saki looked terrified.

,,Now what?” I asked. Saki turned to me and stepped closer.

,,Now you have to call Edgar’s soul to you, so we can get him back” he explained the plan but forgot to tell me how exactly I’m supposed to do that.

,,And…care to explain how to do that?”

,,You never did it before?” Saki was confused.

,,No I didn’t. So teach me!”

,,First, focus on your soul energy…”

,,How do I do that?”

Usually the protagonist in the fantasy novels I read knows how to do everything. They know how to focus on energies and I’m always asking myself: How do they even know how to do that?

,,Ok so…you imagine a dark room and imagine a…uhm…blue energy in the middle of it. Like the souls you eat but blue.”

,,Ok…” I closed my eyes and followed his instructions.

,,Now, imagine another soul, of the same color standing in the same black room, but feet apart from you.”

,,Ok I can see that!” I kept my eyes closed why giving him a thumbs up.

,,Now imagine the soul you imagined just now, going towards the first soul!”

,,Got it!”

Just then Edgar appeared next to us. He was in the middle of saying something.

,,And that’s why I think silver works better with red than gold!” he explained and then noticed us staring at him and not Elizabeth.

,,Oh. Pretend you didn’t hear that” he chuckled.

,,EDGAR YOU’RE HOME!” I yelled, happy to see my companion was back in one piece.

,,I guess I am, WHOA WHAT IS HAPPENING?” he screamed as a loud noise could be heard from outside.

,,Oh I almost forgot!” Saki ran towards the school yard and we followed.

Outside there was chaos. Midari was throwing lightning bolts towards the librarian whose name I still didn’t know. Erika was dodging some knives Bethany was throwing at her. But the worst part was the fight between Mily and Elizabeth.

Mily was throwing ice spears at Elizabeth, while the librarian was cutting them in half with a scythe that looked similar to Millie’s.

,,SO YOU’VE DECIDED TO FINALLY JOIN THE FIGHT YOURSELF, DIDN’T YOU?!” Mily yelled and made an ice block drop on Elizabeth. The woman cut it in half again, lunging towards Mily, ready to cut her soul in half. Just then, Elizabeth slipped on some ice and fell backwards, landing on her back. She screamed in pain. Around her, the ground was starting to freeze her up.

,,DO YOU NEED HELP?” I recognized the voice. On the top of the school, on the roof, Carter had come to help us (or more like help his cousin). He had summoned the ice on which Elizabeth slipped.

Just then, the ice he summoned started melting and I could see the unknown librarian using a light ability to melt the ice and help Elizabeth.

,,Hey Madison!” Edgar yelled at the librarian ,,That’s not fair!”

He then grabbed his own katana, ran towards her and cut in half her sword. It was just then when I noticed that Madison’s sword was made out of actual light.

,,Hey Edgar!” she yelled back ,,That’s not polite!”

Elizabeth on the other hand, stood up. She was clearly angry. But before she was about to launch her next attack, she picked up her beret (it fell on the ground when she fell) and gave Carter a threatening look. He let out a nervous chuckle and then teleported on the ground, behind Mily.

Apperently, Elizabeth had only disabled our teleportation ability, but I was sure that she was considering stripping Carter of his powers as well.

,,Best cousin ever!” Midari yelled towards him and summoned a lightning that was about to hit Elizabeth, but Bethany pushed the head librarian out of the way, thus resulting in her being hit by Midari’s ability.

Bethany yelled in pain and fell to the ground but not in the same gracious way Elizabeth did.

,,Idiot…” Elizabeth muttered. Bethany didn’t respond. For the first time, Elizabeth actually seemed concerned about her fellow librarians. Though Midari didn’t regret a thing.

,,What’s happening?!” Wendy suddenly yelled, as she made her way towards Millie, with Kevin following close.

,,Wendy…Listen I’m sorry I locked you up in the room this morning…” Millie tried to apologize. Instead of answering, Wendy joined Edgar in fighting Madison and Kevin followed her.

You’re probably wondering why I wasn’t helping. Well, it’s quite simple. I love my ability, I really do, but fighting? Nah, not really for me. And plus, if Elizabeth saw my poor fighting skills, she’d laugh at me.

And yes, I do know, that I said I would fight the head librarian, but right now, all that courage kind of disappeared.

,,Luna!” my sister grabbed my arm and pulled me towards Bethany ,,Help me!”

It was only then I noticed that Bethany was up and ready for another fight. Seems like lightning doesn’t really do much damage on a cat girl’s body.

Bethany grabbed her last dagger…No actually it looked more like a sword, so I’m going to say that it was a sword.

,,Millie, Luna, I’m very sorry” she said and then attacked both of us. She was about to hit Millie but my sibling protected herself with her weapon. She tried hitting Bethany back, failing because Bethany dodged her attack.

I decided to step in and help, despite not wanting to fight two minutes ago.

,,You’re sorry?” I asked, while swinging my sword at her. I really needed to get some more fighting lessons, because I probably looked pathetic.

,,Yeah, I am. Listen, I don’t really want to fight you…” Bethany dodged and then swung her sword near my throat. From my understanding of the situation, librarians could literally kill ghosts, sending them into nothingness. (Goodbye heaven)

,,That much was obvious” Millie hit us with her deduction skills ,,You’re holding back, aren’t you? And Elizabeth and the other one.” She almost cut Bethany’s torso in half with her weapon, but Bethany, probably having a cat’s agility, avoided the hit. Bethany’s eyes widened, as she realized that Millie probably deduced what was going on.

Just then, poor Wendy flew through the air and hit me, which resulted in both of us falling.

,,OUCH!” she yelled ,,Ok sorry, my mistake, I don’t feel any pain. Thanks for the safe landing” she said, because she literally fell on top of me.

I turned my head to see an enraged Madison, that surely wasn’t holding back anymore. Her pigtails had come undone and now she looked like one of those cartoon heroes.

Kevin was trying his best to hold her off, while my companion was trying to attack her from behind, which seemed like a good strategy.

,,SURRENDER” a commanding voice yelled.

With Wendy still on top of me, I turned my head in the opposite direction, where Mily was supposed to fight Elizabeth.

Wendy saw what I was doing and looked in the same direction. Next to us, Bethany and Millie stopped fighting and stared at the scenery in front of them.

Carter was lying, probably unconscious, somewhere on the ground. Next to him, his young looking cousin, Midari, was swinging her arms at Elizabeth. The head librarian had an amused look on her face.

,,I suppose I set the timer to when you’d loose your power a little too late” she told Midari ,,At least you’re not a threat anymore.”

Midari stared at her in disbelief, still shaking her arms and trying to summon a lightning. Then she started grinning and reached into her pocket, holding out a round object that looked like a coin.

Mily turned to her and screamed:

,,MIDARI NO!”

The little girl chuckled and then threw the coin in the air, right in front of Elizabeth.

,,TOO LATE!”

The coin landed and it exploded right in front of Elizabeth, which I assumed didn’t have time to get away from the explosion.

,,AND I STILL HAVE MORE!” Midari yelled and around the yard, she started activating more explosives.

But, as soon as the bombs started blowing up they immediately shut down.

,,Huh?” Midari looked around her.

,,There!” Wendy, stood up and pointed at Bethany, who was using a quill, similar to Elizabeth’s, to write something on a piece of paper she probably pulled out while everyone was focused on Midari.

,,BURN THE PAGE!” Edgar yelled and Saki did as told, quickly chanting something in another language, making Bethany’s paper burn. As soon as he did that, a hand grabbed him.

Elizabeth, who apparently didn’t die, grabbed him and was now holding her own scythe up to his throat. He was breathing loudly and her clothes looked a little burned. The spell Saki placed on Bethany’s paper stopped.

,,FIRST YOU STEAL MY QUILL!” Elizabeth looks at Carter ,,THEN YOU CALL ME HERE AND TELL ME THAT YOU WANT TO FIGHT ME! AND NOW YOU BLOW ME UP?!”

,,Elizabeth, don’t do anything stupid” Midari told her, with a serious tone.

,,Don’t you dare speak again, child” Elizabeth snapped at her ,,You’re a useless creation.” The woman looked at Bethany, whom we found out earlier that day, was Midari’s creator.

Bethany looked at the ground in shame.

,,And you!” Elizabeth snapped at Mily this time ,,You’re even more insufferable than her! I should erase your existence.”

Saki looked terrified, probably unable to use magic anymore. Who knows what else Bethany wrote on the paper.

,,Let him go” Mily tried arguing with her ,,or suffer the consequences.”

Elizabeth laughed.

,,Consequences? What consequences? What are you going to do?”

,Make sure you burn in hell” Mily threatened.

,,Oh! Oh…well darling” Elizabeth didn’t even look like herself anymore ,,You’d be very surprised to know that I am very well acquainted with the devil.”

Saki was saying something but I couldn’t hear him. Elizabeth was furious and she demanded her quill back.

Mily turned her head to look at us. She stared at Millie, who was telling her not to do anything. She looked at me and then at Wendy and Kevin.

Midari collapsed on her knees, next to her cousin, probably from exhaustion. She waited for Mily’s move.

Mily snapped her fingers and the quill appeared in front of her, basked in a golden light.

,,Take it” she told Elizabeth.

,,Exactly as planned” Elizabeth let go of Saki and snatched her quill back. Next to me, Bethany sighed in relief that this was finally over.

,,C’mon you two” the head librarian looked at Madison and Bethany ,,we got what we came here for.”

Madison ran up to Bethany and hugged her. They both stared at Elizabeth with disappointment.

Madison clapped her hands and Elizabeth disappeared, probably going to the library. Madison and Bethany stayed long enough for Bethany to tell the Midari the following:

,,Midari? Listen to me. You shouldn’t care about what Elizabeth said. You…you and your brother…are the creations I’m most proud of, out of all the people I’ve created over the years. So don’t worry about what she said. You’re a wonderful child.”

Midari’s face lit up and she grinned at Bethany. The librarian nodded at her co-worker and Madison clapped her hands, thus resulting in both disappearing.

Mily collapsed on the ground in the same way Midari did. She was crying.

,,Whoa, what happened to you guys?” Lord was sitting on a couch in the living room, eating popcorn while watching a TV show that wasn’t really appropriate for his age.

,,Where have you been?” Millie asked him, though it looked more like she was interrogating him.

Lord looked around at all of us. Mily collapsed on the couch, still sobbing, while Midari and Saki were trying to comfort her.

,,Uhm” Lord put his popcorn aside ,,I was here the whole time? Watching TV I mean. So…what have you guys been up to?”

Millie almost slapped herself.

,,We were in the school yard. Fighting Elizabeth” she announced.

,,Yeah, what were you doing? Aren’t you like the strongest here? You could have helped” I told him.

,,Luna” Mily raised her head ,,Don’t question him.”

,,But Millie started with this interrogatory…”

,,Millie you too” it was probably the first time Mily frowned at her and she did as told.

Carter entered the room and fell down on the carpet, not bothering to take a seat on one of the four couches.

,,You guys have a lot of stairs…” he said and closed his eyes ,,When will our teleporting ability enable?”

,,In a few minutes probably” Saki told him ,,How come you came to help?”

,,Huh? Weren’t you the one who called me?”

,,No? I didn’t have the time to call anybody” Saki assured him. Carter opened his eyes.

,,Then who did? The voice on the phone sounded like yours.”

,,Let me guess, you didn’t save my phone number and answered the call thinking it was me. Good job Carter.”

,,In my defense, whoever called, called on time. I was just about to head out. My most amazing housemate wanted me to bring him lunch.”

,,At least Leo doesn’t have these kind of problems” Midari commented and Carter raised his shoulders.

,,In any case, I didn’t know the quill belonged to her. Who is she?” Carter was completely clueless.

,,The head librarian” Millie informed him. Carter wanted to laugh but then stopped and looked at Mily.

,,Wasn’t the head librarian part of that weird cult you worship?”

If Mily wouldn’t be crying, then she would have punched him.

,,I do not worship them.”

,,But you talk about them all the time…”

,,Ok let’s stop this and focus on the person that called Carter, okay?” Millie interrupted, probably sick of pointless discussions.

,,Oh yeah, right! It was a guy with a voice similar to Saki’s…he said something about Midari needing help.”

,,Ok I know who it was” Midari declared.

,,Do share it with us.”

,,My brother. Also by my calculations he should be here any minute now, yelling: “MIDARI ARE YOU OK, ARE YOU HURT?! I SENT CARTER AFTER YOU BUT…!”

Just then, the door opened and Misaki stormed in.

,, MIDARI ARE YOU OK, ARE YOU HURT?! I SENT CARTER AFTER YOU BUT…!”

,,See?” Midari told us as she hugged him ,,Told ya!”

,,Wow Midari does not only break the fourth wall, but she can also predict the future!” I said and everyone turned to me ,,Actually pretend you didn’t hear that.”

,,Oh. SO you’re the one who called me. Absolutely adorable!” Carter rolled his eyes at Misaki ,,You still didn’t forgive me for that, have you?”

,,No” Misaki answered bluntly.

,,But what did you do?” Millie asked Carter, who laughed nervously in response.

,,He stole my brother’s car” Midari spoiled the story.

,,YOU HAVE A CAR?!” Saki yelled.

,,Let me finish” Midari scolded him ,,Carter stole Misaki’s toy car when we were little.”

,,And that’s why you’re fighting now?” Millie was unimpressed.

,,Yes” they answered in unison.

For some reason, Mily found this amusing and laughed. Midari grinned again.

,,You feeling better?” Midari asked Mily.

,,Yeah. You all…you’re funny” she told us ,,Midari with her constant breaking the fourth wall thing. Millie and her constant quarrels with Wendy and Kevin, such a shame they aren’t here to hear this. Erika and her threatening baseball bat is absolutely hilarious. Luna with her alien sighting documentaries. Lord with his journal. Edgar and his obsession with the newspaper. Misaki with his drawings. Carter and his comments about poor Leo. Both of them with their constant fights. And last but not least, Saki and his attempts to copy me. I honestly love all these moments.

We stared at her and Midari let out a “AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW”.

,,Well” Saki adjusted his glasses ,,that was unexpected.”

,,I know not everyone was here for my little speech but I must warn you: DO NOT tell Erika I said she’s funny.

,,I already heard it” Erika was leaning against the doorframe with her arms crossed ,,cute speech. I’m proud of my student.”

,,Ok the moment is over, everyone quit saying nice stuff” Mily turned back into her cold, dark and edgy self.

,,Erika?” Millie asked.

,,Yes dear?” Erika was starting to sound like my grandma.

,,Where are Wendy and Kevin?” Millie sounded like my other grandma, the one who was worrying too much.

,,You should see them. They’re sleeping on your bed like babies! I even took a picture…”

,,NO NEED TO SHOW US” Saki yelled again.

,,Oof…”

,,Anyway guys, I hereby declare, that the curse has been lifted!”

Midari gasped.

,,So that’s what it was?! REALLY? YOU HEAR THAT MISAKI?! NOW I’M GOING TO VISIT YOU EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. OF. YOUR. DEATH!” Midari did a little happy dance.

,,Personally, I would love to see the place where they buried me and Luna” Millie told us.

,,I, personally, do not. But if you insist…”

,,This is great!” Erika exclaimed ,,Now I can haunt the teachers in this school!” she also did a happy dance.

,,But before we do all of this…Misaki, question.”

,,Yeah?”

,,Why didn’t you come help Midari yourself?” Misaki averted his gaze, looking anywhere in the room but at me.

,,Ok ok spoiler alert, but Misaki can’t really use his ability” Midari shared his secret ,,Yes, he is a high ranked ghost, but my brother here…did not want to learn how to control his ability, thus turning him into a ghost as useless as a low ranked one.”

,,Listen, Millie, Luna I tried calling your brother to help too but he didn’t pick up.”
