Lucifer sat in his chamber with a book containing spells of tenth tier in hand. It's not like he needed those, considering he could easily use superior tier, but it was good to kill some time. His rest was cut short by knocking on his doors. Right beside those were great stone golems shaped like armors, wielding mighty weapons and shields. While they were imposing, their lord used them for nothing more than answering doors.
- My Lord, I have come- a somewhat feminine albeit raspy voice came from the other side. Lucifer placed the book aside and raised his hand to command the golems to open the doors. At the other side stood a demon with the gray body of a lizard with six limbs, all of them ended with sharp claws. From her mouth came many sharp fangs. Great milky white eyes were scanning the surroundings in search of her master. But the most prominent feature was an enormous yellow eye on her back.
- Ah Vizya, I hope that you have found the location of all our rebels
- About that my Lord, there were more of them than expected. Spanning across third and second circle- noticing the stern gaze of Lucifer, Vizya quickly lowered her head- Of course I sent the right amount of troops to deal with them
- Bring them to me
-But my Lord, the troops have probably dealt with most of them
- Then bring the rest- Lucifer then came closer to the demon- And that was the last time you were acting without my permission- He then ordered the golems to close the doors. He sighed as he sat on the bed. Those ungrateful bastards. They dare to act without permission, let alone plot against him. After a while he decided to join Beelzebub and see if he found anything meaningful.
Now standing before the doors to the royal library he considered what to do with the rebels. A public execution might have been a good choice, but he doubted that this would stop the wave of rebellious demons that was growing bigger and bigger. And he couldn't kill all of them, or at least for now. He still needed most of them.
As he entered the library he saw Beelzebub being surrounded by towers of books. Lord of the flies had not even noticed that his ruler even came to this place.
- I see that you are working hard- Morning star's deep voice got the attention of the bigger demon. Beelzebub bowed his head, but Lucifer simply ordered him to raise it- Mind telling me what is having you so occupied?
- My Lord, I am trying to find any information about the stone portal. Maybe we could even make it so that even your highness could finally leave this place
- Do you truly believe that such a possibility even exists? I think that you don't know what you are even talking about. If even I cannot break that curse then who can?- Lucifer's voice once again was stern, making the Lord of the flies tremble. He always thought of the Beelzebub as being the one of the smartest demons in Hell, yet even he made such foolish claims from time to time. Sometimes he wondered if he was as reliable as he originally thought.
- Of course not my Lord, for there is none equal to your might- Lucifer just sighed at the response. It was the same he heard a thousand of times. He just took some books and went deeper into the library.
- If Vizya came to look for me, tell her that I'm busy- with that he vanished behind the bookshelves. Beelzebub waited a while before taking a breath of relief. Today his lord seemed to be more pissed off than usual. It's not like he could blame him. Their situation was becoming worse with each passing day, as more and more demons wanted the throne for themselves or simply refused to carry on orders. If that were to continue they all might forget about freedom. A bunch of bastards could not see that he and his lord were working hard for their best. Beelzebub could only hope that awakening Legion would somewhat change that.
Lucifer on the other hand wasn't exactly worried about that. While it was somewhat concerning, if the worst were to happen then he could just rely on the shadows. They might have lacked the strength of demons but at least could not say no. But there was a bigger matter at hand. For some time he was getting some visions. It started before his plan to awaken Legion. The first one was just a sigh of some being. While he had no idea what it could've been he was sure that it came before them.
It presented itself as a Faceless God, which made Lucifer smirk. To call oneself a God was a bold claim. But in fact it had an interesting aura that belonged to no one that he knew. And that was more than enough to get his interest. After all, why make another God your enemy while you could gain its trust. Lucifer knew that it might have helped him.
Next few visions were chaotic to say the least. But in all of them was that faceless deity. And last night came another one. In this one he saw a great gate, greater than any other he had ever seen. It stood in the abyss as the Faceless was talking to him. It's voice was like a crowd speaking at once. And then it showed him Legion. Standing over the world as his head reached far over Heaven and its tail went to the deepest parts of Hell.
Then it showed him crystals of various colors. All of them scattered over earth. It didn't take Lucifer long to figure out what this prophecy was about. He only was ashamed of himself that he didn't think of that himself. But of course awakening Legion was a key to victory and now he had means to do so. Or rather he will have the means.
- I am thankful for that, albeit I cannot see what you would have from that. And don't try to tell me that you do that from a "good heart". If that was the case then you wouldn't come into contact with me- Lord of Hell glazed over at the vast nothingness in which the gate stood.
- Such critical thinking, just as I expected from you- the deity spoke over Lucifer's shoulder- But worry not, awakening Legion will help me too
Those visions repeated themselves for some time. The last one was before assigning a mission to Phantasm. For now they have stopped and he couldn't help but wonder if there will be more. Thinking about those he reached a small chamber in far away parts of the great library. This one was similar to his own chamber, even having the same red crystals paving it. This chamber was the only part of the library to which he and only he had access. And for good reasons.
On a stone pedestal were many pages on which time had no mercy. Each of them was torn and yellow, some were in such a bad state that one could mistake them for being taken straight from a hell hound's mouth. But they were much more valuable than they had looked and Lucifer knew that. Each of them was related to the Faceless God albeit vague in their descriptions about him.
Stolen story; please report.
When he took one page words on it started moving like ants trying to find a way back to hive. Some of them even dared to go on his hands. This had not surprised the Lord of Hell as it always happened when simply even moved them slightly. While many of them spoke of simple gibberish, a few pages had rather interesting information about a certain energy. While the part about utilizing it was lost, it wasn't a big problem for Lucifer. After all, it wasn't something that simple experimenting could figure out.
Has something caught your eye? There it was, the voice of a crowd echoing in his head. If someone told him that he would hear a voice in his head, Lucifer would simply laugh and then have them be executed. But now here he was, talking with some deity that could have been a great ally.
If you had not noticed, I am busy learning more about that energy. Now be kind and tell me if I could use it to break through my curse
As much as I myself would like to know that, I cannot say for sure
And I thought that Faceless God knows everything, about everyone
And I thought that Helel was the almighty, all knowing one
Don't you dare call me that name!
Have I struck a nerve?
Lucifer then just ignored the voice. Sometimes it allowed itself for too much freedom when it was talking to him. The further studying of pages brought no answers to him and he pretty much returned to where he was. The next logical step would have been to order someone to try and find the remaining pages. They probably had knowledge on how to utilize this energy. And if it was as powerful as it was described then he finally could break free. Lord of Hell already had a certain demon in mind who could take this task, but then again they were too delicate to be handled by such mindless brute.
Before he could think on who to send, he felt someone approaching his chamber.
- My Lord- Beelzebub voice came from the other side- Vizya returned with all of the remaining rebels
- Tell her to bring them to the throne room and wait for me
- Yes my Lord
After arriving at the throne room Lucifer saw Beelzebub that had already waited for him there and in the middle of the chamber, held by his royal guards were three demons. Each of them was looking more like a mindless beast rather than someone who could disregard him. Their great bodies were covered in fur of various color, from red through brown even with some gray mixed in. From their wolf-like eyes one could tell that they rather had not enjoyed their stay here.
The biggest one standing in the middle, who probably was the leader of those savages, was baring his fangs at the Morning Star. Lucifer simply sat on the iron throne with a bored look on his face. For him it was nearly a daily occurrence. He hadn't even expected them to talk, maybe just bark for a while before dying and that's all.
- You have been accused of plotting rebellion against our gracious Lord and claiming that his highness will soon fail. Do you have any last words?- Beelzebub broke the silence stepping before the demons. The last part intrigued Lucifer to some degree. While such claims were thrown left and right, only one demon would've been smart enough to start a rebellion against him.
- Fuck you! We might die, but rebellion will continue! And Lord Satan will- he could finish as his chest gained an enormous hole from which a yellow blood leaked. He had fallen to the ground gasping for air. Lucifer only looked at him as bright light enveloped the wounded demon, turning him to ash. Before his companions could react to that, they too were nothing more than a pile of gray ash.
- My lord, should I start an inspection just in case more followers of Satan were still alive?
- And what do you plan next? Destroy all first three circles? While it is an interesting idea, we should hold up on this or at least for the time being
- Of course your highness- just then Vizya came storming right into the chamber- Vizya, I think you know well that no one can simply enter the throne room before- the demon ignored the Lord of the Flies as she quickly went to the Lucifer, while looking rather excited yet somewhat distressed about something.
- My Lord! I have finally found the whereabouts of Satan!- she exclaimed, prostrating herself before the king and opening her eye on the back which shone with yellow light. In it was a vision of some dessert on which was a building resembling a palace. Then the vision showed some kind of a chamber inside the palace. For a second Lucifer had a hard time believing what his eyes showed him.
The chamber was filled with still burning corpses of many angels. They covered each corner and their blood could have been mistaken for paint as it covered nearly the entire walls. And in the middle of that stood a tall figure. It was muscular, covered in black scales. Its arms and legs were like those from a dragon, having great claws stained with angel's blood. Its mighty tail was still wrapped around some barely alive heavenly warrior. The head of the beast too resembled a dragon, being v shaped with many curled and straight horns. A smirk that showed a glimpse of its sharp teeth was on its face, probably being proud of the massacre it made. Just then it looked up as if it knew that it was being watched. It took a few steps to the left with its head still being up.
- You are watching Lucifer, aren't you?- its voice was full of pride and without any fear as it nonchalantly spoke to the king- Oh, I know you are. Then gaze upon the future ruler, for I assure you. Soon your throne will be mine- it then laughed. Lucifer just kept his gaze at the vision. Just then he noticed still fresh wounds on Satan’s chest. There was no way that it was the work of the angels, unless some from the first sphere were involved. But if that wasn’t the case then something weird was going on.
- And so you know I am not bluffing- then something happened that Lucifer was not prepared for. As the warrior still being strangled by the tail finally died and his body set itself ablaze, his souls appeared. A bright white orb danced for a while around the demon, but before it could return to Heaven, Satan grabbed it with his hand. He raised it high into the air as if to make sure that Lucifer could perfectly see the soul in his palm. Then he pierced his own chest with that hand. When he pulled it out the soul was gone and for a split second, a ghostly white aura appeared around the demon.
Lucifer was baffled to say the least. Just what kind of soul magic was that? Was that even soul magic? It had to be, it couldn’t be anything else. But what if it was that energy that he read off? No, it was impossible, the Faceless God spoke only to him. But what if he wasn’t the only one to possess that knowledge? From that point on he should really keep an eye on that damned dragon.
- Well then, I must go now. Better enjoy your last days of being a king- the vision vanished as Vizya was breathing fast from the exhaustion. It was all that filled the throne room beside the silence.
- My Lord, should I inform Leviathan about that?- Beelzebub asked.
- First find out what was that spell- Lucifer ordered standing up and turning in the direction of his chamber. Beelzebub then started asking Vizya about some details, but that was already meaningless to the Morning star
Just what are you planning Satan? Was all that was on his mind as he entered the chamber. It was probably the first time that he was somewhat concerned. He needed to know what just he did, yet he doubted that Beelzebub could find any answers to that. Thus this left him with only one option. And the Faceless God better have an answer to that, otherwise the heads will roll.
