Chapter IX A Pharaoh's guidance

Chapter IX A Pharaoh's guidance

The Chaos was now in Otto's wilderness. A tundra that was there made it easier to spot any potential predators, due to the lack of the trees. They were walking for two hours and still were far from the nearby cities. Samukai took a look at the map and said that if they kept their pace, they would arrive at the closest town, which was called Silesia, in more or less three hours.

- Leader, how's the crystal?- Noktum asked.

Phantom took a crystal from the bag. It was slowly spinning in every direction.

- I don't know- after that, the crystal stopped and pointed at the magician.

- That way. Somewhere there will be next- demon said, showing the land opposite to the shadow.

Oh are you sure?

This pharaoh again. And Phantom already hoped that he won't hear him again.

Yes I am sure! And you better tell me how to spread this chaos!

Silence. Pharaoh didn't say anything. Demon was both glad and disappointed. He kinda wanted to learn about this chaos. At least it sounded interesting.

Crystal are attracted to each other and will point to the closest

What? I know that these crystals attract each other...Oh

- Noktum, hand me the crystal!

Magician took out the fire crystal from the bag. Demon then looked at the crystals. They both were raising a little and pointing at each other.

- That's a problem- Phantom said not knowing what to do in this situation.

- Don't tell me that we will need to search them blindly- Samukai said while coming closer to the demon.

- Well, there is a positive thing coming from it

- What is it? And if you say that you will have more time to kill people, then

- Then what? Also I didn't mean that- entire team looked at him- well I did too. But I meant that we will have more opportunities to explore this world. And who knows what artifacts and spell scrolls might lay there

- Huh, you are actually talking with some sense

- Yeah, I know. So am I a better leader than humans?

This question made samurai think for a while. It was hard to say. It was still too soon to tell if any changes were made. And he didn't know how this demon treated his first team. As for now he decided to play it safe.

- Better than when I first met you, but you still need to learn more. Who knows, maybe you soon will be as good as a human

- Soon you say? Well since we are on the tundra we might as well go hunting

- Hunting? For what?

- Dragons are fun to hunt. Besides, I can better see your fighting style and your abilities during combat. Then I can decide if you are good enough to be a soldier

- I would have said that we could pass. After all, we killed that elemental. This should make us a decent soldiers

- And there is the problem. I don't want to train only decent soldiers. I want to train soldiers that will make me famous for how great they are!- warrior was able to see a little spark of pride in the demon's eyes.

Fenfir was acting strange. His snout was high in the air sniffing something. He was slowly walking to the left.

- Hound got something- Noktum informed the other two.

- I hope that he felt dragons- Phantasm said following the hound.

Chaos was following the hell hound for a few good minutes and still none of them could see anything that might have caught the Fenfir's attention. And a mist that forming around them didn't helped either.

Hell hound suddenly stopped in his tracks. The entire team was standing near the small lake. On the other side was a small pack of dragons.

Those reptiles were pretty massive for their size which varied from eight meters to ten. They had small wings that were used to attract females. They didn't have claws, only rounded feet. Those dragons themselves were standing on six, massive legs. Mouths of these reptiles were long, but lacked teeth. Instead they were ending with something similar to the beak, which had three or four horns on it. At the place where neck and head combined was something that looked like a giant shield.

Those dragons called shield bearers were rather calm and didn't attack until they felt threatened.

- Now that is a good target- demon said.

- Wait a moment- Samukai started- since there is a herbivore there can also be a carnivore

- Yea and what about that?

- That we should watch surrounding, because I'd like to not be surprised by, lets say, huntsman colossus

- Don't worry about that. One black comet and he's dead

Samukai casted shadow arts on the team.

- Why are you wasting your aura?- Demon asked.

- I might teach you a thing or two about sneak attacks

Samurai slowly came to the dragons, the entire time trying to not make a loud noise. Reptiles seemed to notice him but didn't react. They were too busy resting.

- I do have a plan. I will take those on the front and you Phantom, you will sneak to the middle of the pack and then cast some low tier spells

- Middle tier- demon said, sounding like his pride was hurt.

- Fine, but please don't blow us up. Go!

Warrior ran to the closest reptile. He then drew Izanagi and started slowly swinging it, quickly taking up pace. After images appeared right next to the blade. Dragon backed a little, but was cut to slices by a tornado of slashes.

One of the monsters then stood up on its back legs and smashed his front legs on the ground. Giant stone pillars rose from the ground, right where the samurai was standing. Hell hound then emerged from the shadow and blocked the attack.

Wolf then came rushing at the attacker, baring his teeth. His mouth connected with the shield bearer neck. Fenfir then ripped a good chunk of meat from the reptile neck. Dragon fell down dead.

Another dragon rushed at the hellhound and stabbed him with horns. Wolf backed, but a few seconds later he was mauling the dragon's head.

Next dragon was coming closer to the Noktum. Magician barely dodged getting hit by its mighty tail. Shadow rolled down and summoned abbadon. Pentagram was gathering energy, but couldn't hold it and exploded, leaving a bloody hole in the reptile's stomach.

Phantom took down one dragon with his abbadon.

Last two were taken down by martial arts of the Samukai.

- It seems that all of you know how to act in combat. There is a chance that you will be more than a decent soldier, but there is still a long way before you- Phantom commented.

- It's not like we have an eternity or something- samurai said jokingly- also Noktum, great use of spell. Maybe you don't have to master it for it to be useful?

- While it's true, I think that mastered abbadon will have a better use- shadow replied slightly embarrassed by the compliment.

-Catch!- Phantom shouted while throwing the crystal at the magician. Noktum caught it and put it in the bag. Chaos started to head to the right.

Tundra there wasn't all that bad as magician thought it might be. Granted that it was pretty cold there, but as for now that was the only inconvenience of this land. The emptiness filling this tundra was actually calming. After all, wild beasts that are trying to protect their homes from a threat much bigger than them, were rather annoying.

Phantom on the other hand didn't like any area where the only "practice material", as he called them, was ground at best. It made him miss the giant and glorious coliseum of Hell to some degree. Those were good times, after he will clear his mission, he might go back there. He didn't get his rank without proper training. The only positive thing about the tundra is that it does end somewhere.

Samurai was pretty worried about what demon would do when they arrived in town. They needed supplies, like new spell scrolls for example. He only hoped that they had enough money to afford some useful spells. The second option was to just steal, but he hoped that Phantom was decent enough to not steal. And why was he lying to himself? Of course Phantom is going to steal if he is going to see a useful spell. He is a demon after all. And that type that isn't ashamed of being an one.

- You know- Samukai started- I think we could use some additional spell scrolls or other scrolls, so please when we'll arrive to the town don't destroy it immediately

- I doubt that there will be good spells, but Noktum could have used those weaker spells and then I could teach him much stronger. But I swear if there will be spells below fifth tier I'm burning it

- You do you

There was one problem out of his head. It went better than the warrior had imagined.

Ahh, there is no such relaxing thing as burning down a town or two

Pharaoh's voice once again echoed in the demon's mind. Phantom was slightly startled by it, but he had to agree with him. Burning towns was pretty relaxing.

Are you finally going to tell me what this chaos is? Or are you scared that when I am going to achieve it, I'll be much stronger than you?

Demon was more than sure that he heard the pharaoh chuckle.

I can already see that I will have a fun time with you. But before I will show you chaos, I need to give you something

Phantom then felt strong itching on the back of his head. It was like something was drilling into his mind. Soon it all stopped, but the demon hadn't felt anyhow different.

Nothing has changed!

Concentrate you idiot

Demon did as he was told. And that was when the shock started. Once again the entire world was gray, but it didn't stop like the last time. He then noticed something by the corner of his right eye. A freely moving cloud of color that he didn't recognize. Then he started to notice more and more of this. This energy was even on him, as if it was coming from him. That was on his teammates.

Now try casting a spell Pharaoh voice once again echoed in his mind.

Phantom casted a single fireball and saw that it was made of the same energy. Not only that, but it also left a trail of this energy.

Chaos is a energy?

Yes. and a powerful one. Those who can harness it will be able use such techniques that surpass even tenth tier of magic

And how can I trust you? There must some "but" to it

Believe me, I never lie

Fine, but why do you want to spread it?

You see, if I want to make our deal complete I need to exist in this world, just like I did when you've opened the Necronomicon. The problem is that every time I came to existence this world, I consume to much energy, more than I am able to create in such a short time of being able to hold my physical form without causing nasty consequences

So, in short, you need this to give me power. That;s something that is fine by me

Ahh, I know that I won't be bored by you

- Fine, now we turn right- Samukai's voice brought the demon back to reality.

- What?- demon asked.

- We turn right, then go straight and we will be in a town in half an hour

Phantom wanted to say something but then heard a noise that sounded like metal clashing against metal. At first he thought that he imagined this, but noises appeared again.

It didn't take them long to be sure that it came from battle. Not after they saw some lights, probably spells being cast.

Chaos ran into that direction. As Samukai took a quick glance at the map, he saw that it was on their way to the town.

The surrounding there had now more hills and was a little warmer than the heart of the tundra. Warrior stopped the team near the end of a hill and looked down.

At the bottom was something that could've been described as a massacre.

Six men laid at the bottom with some of their arms and legs ripped. Warrior quickly spotted the monsters responsible for that.

Three giant snow trolls were on the hunt. Massive beasts covered in white fur with hands that ended with big claws that looked like they were made of steel.

Then spotted seven more warriors trying to fight them. When samurai looked at them and how they fought, he was more than sure that they were amateurs.

One of the warriors tried to kill the troll with a gladius. It only scratched the monster at best. Man then tried to take another swing but the troll was faster and knocked man over, leaving a bloody hole in his armor.

Another man then took out his bow and hit the beast in the eye. Good move, but he didn't have time to take a shot at the right eye. Second troll rushed at him and ripped him apart.

Two spear men stabbed the monster in the chest, weakening him for a while.

After that the last troll swung its massive hands and crushed one of the spear men's heads. Second spear man was mauled apart by claws of the one eyed troll.

Only three men were left. Probably mages, since they tried to keep their distance and were casting fireballs.

Samukai wanted to jump down and help them, but Phantom grabbed him.

- What do you think you are doing?- demon asked.

- I'm trying to help them

- Let them be slaughtered, after that we might kill the trolls

- Might?

- Trolls are not worth my time. Simple demon, hell even simple imp could take a one

- So? If we kill them now, you will have three people remaining

- Yea, three useless mages who can't even kill a troll. Slaughtering them wouldn't even be anyhow fun. They are using second tier spells for fuck sake

Warrior can't say that he wasn't expecting an answer like that, but it was worth trying to get the demon to kill those monsters.

After a good amount of fireballs, the one eyed troll fell dead, but the remaining two rushed at the mages. It wasn't hard to guess what can happen when mages lose distance when fighting with a much physically stronger enemy.

Pretty much a slaughterhouse.

And this wasn't different. After trolls ended this massacre, all that was left from the mages were corpses that once were in one piece.

Samukai, in moments like that, was glad that he didn't have his body. It's not like he couldn't stand the bloody violence, it's just that, sometimes it went over his stomach tolerance.

He turned his helmet a little to not look directly at the mangled bodies.

- Can't handle the slaughter? - demon asked with barely sensible mockery.

- Lets just say that some things are not for me

- I will need to work on that- that line worried Samukai a little. He could only imagine how Phantasm will work on that- but that's for later. For now we should just get down there

Phantom casted aspect of the sky: free bird on himself. Aura blue as the sky covered his wings and the demon flew down. Noktum and the samurai jumped on the hellhound. Fenfir jumped down, landing near the bodies.

Samukai went closer to one of the many corpses. At first it looked like they had normal light armors. But after checking the arm. he saw a red stripe of cloth. He quickly checked a few more bodies. Each of them had the same thing on their arms.

- It's no wonder why they were massacred. It was just a patrol

- Yes, but how fun it was!- suddenly Samukai spotted a figure standing right next to him.

Fenfir and Noktum took battle stances. Warrior drew his katanas. Only Phantom seemed somehow calm and shocked about the sudden appearance of this creature.

A human sized creature with an owl head and wings stood rather close to the samurai. Samukai looked at his body and saw that it looked just like a human body. That left only two options of what this stranger could be. Either a cursed entity or...

- Andras- Phantom said- why this don't surprise that you would be here

- You know him?- warrior asked.

- Of course I do. A past war mongrel who spends his entire life on the battlefield, albeit only watching and never participating

- Can't deny that- Andras agreed- but tell me, what are you doing there? Were you summoned?

- No, of course not. You see, I've got a mission from Lord Lucifer

- I see, but why isn't Lord Beelzebub with you? They don't seem like soldiers- Andras then pointed at the rest of Chaos.

- They are my team- Andras made sure that he heard the demon right. Then he laughed for a short while. They truly were fools if they followed that demon.

- It's a miracle that they are not dead yet

- I know, and I will take that as a sign that this mission will go great!

- I don't know why you always took those missions. You could just be like me and watch how humans kill themselves

- It's more fun killing them, believe me. And I have a task for you

- I'm all ears

- Go to my room and bring me all of my books. Anything that you will find

- But how will I come back here? I doubt that you have silver to summon me

- Just go, Lord Beelzebub will tell you how to came back

Andras then chanted something and a ring of molten rocks and fire surrounded the demon. Bright flash appeared from the ring and Andras vanished.

- And what do we do now?- Samukai asked after a while.

- Wait for a while

- And how did you know that he would be there?

- I didn't, but if there is a conflict there will be Andras. He likes wars, no, he loves them. And he does owe me one

- Leader, it seemed like you like him- Noktum said.

- Well, he isn't all that much annoying and cowardly as the rest so I guess he is fine

In the meantime, on the far south a portal opened. From it came a skeleton with a goat head.

Lamb was more than ready to go to earth. But there was a small problem. He didn't know where he was or where Phantasm could be. But he will figure it all out eventually. After all, while Phantom was the power, he was the mind.

As for finding Phantom. Just follow the path of destruction that he leaves.

It won't be a hard mission.
