Wexley Cloudshade was an elf who has lived for 8 centuries. He experienced many tribulations in his life as he journeyed away from his home . He went through solitary most of his life, just training and embracing the dao. He was a self-taught nomad going wherever it felt right. Nature was his master and he understood many mysteries throughout his struggles.
He carved his own path and built a reputation for giving advice on cultivation. After several centuries he managed to gather a group of talented disciples from remote places. He taught them from a young age and grew expectant of their progress.
Unfortunately after a decade of tutelage his efforts bore unfavorable results. All of his disciples hit a plateau they could not overcome. They became listless and unmotivated to continue training under Wexley, leaving him with his first failures. After more attempts with the same results his sage-like reputation became tarnished. Everyone then knew in the surrounding area to avoid being taught by him or you will not progress very far.
Wexley was distraught and became lost for a whole century. One day he decided to travel to a new land and he arrived in the city of Gats. Due to his experience he was able to secure a job as a professor's aide at StarPoint Academy. He learned a lot following behind someone else and became a full-time professor in the Magic Department.
During his time at the academy he made the same mistakes as he did in his past and led talented students astray. Even though it was an unintentional result from the tutoring he provided, he still had his pride. The pride of someone who came from nothing and crawled his way to where he was now. Now he was at a point where he had to prove himself and his methods. He had seen various students fail before him and others shine brightly without him. Wexley always wanted his students to succeed the most, but his obsession was borderline manic.
At present time just when he thought all hope was lost this year with Cal, Damien arrived. He came out of nowhere, in an unprecedented manner. He finally found another student to tutor personally. He was a blank canvas with immense potential. He couldn’t help but think he was the one to turn everything around for him.
The last thing he thought was that he was going to witness a phenomenon he could not even explain himself. He saw Damien condensing the surrounding Mana Mist creating a state he had never seen or heard of. Before he could even process his own feeling of shock, an even grander sight appeared.
Damien entered his inner domain and felt his flame core emanating a very bizarre feeling. Damien thought he could understand its intentions, but right when he felt like he would grasp a tad bit of comprehension, it would disappear from his thoughts. It was like having a word on the top of your tongue. He knew he had felt this feeling before but it was so fragmented he couldn’t piece it together.
‘Destruction…. I know fire is destructive, but what are you trying to tell me! I don’t get any of this. I can’t even expel these feelings of familiarity. What are you!?’
Damien couldn’t let go of his thoughts making his connection with his core break. He began to recollect himself and begin his breathing technique once again. This time he expelled all of his thoughts and examined his core as an outsider.
After a few moments he was stupefied from what he observed. He failed to notice something so fundamentally different with his Flame Core. His core was not emanating any heat, in fact it was actually cold!
‘How does this make sense? Even the fire particles outside emanated a small amount of heat, but my core is the opposite of that. This goes against nature!’
Damien could not grasp the reason behind this marvel. Everyone knows that fire emanates heat from various hot temperatures. It ignites and burns mostly anything it comes in contact with. This was the fundamental nature of fire. Damien thought of many theories revolving around a cold flame but none made sense.
His mental fortitude started wearing down after what felt like an eternity of contemplating. As his thoughts began to slow down and his mind weary, like a spark he understood. Enlightenment flooded his being, gushing in new mental strength and feeling of comprehension.
‘I understand! Hot and cold are not actually opposites because cold does not exist! They are not two sides of the same coin but actually on the same side! It’s more of a spectrum. There only exists heat and a lack of heat which causes the feeling of being cold. That must mean if a fire can be hot it should also be able to feel cold! Therefore every object that exists contains heat.’
Damien’s comprehension was growing at a rapid rate that was unheard of. Unbeknownst to himself a seed appeared inside his inner self. It slowly manifested itself, growing more and more corporeal. It flew inside his Flame Core and implanted itself as his Dao foundation.
Damien snapped out of his enlightenment as he felt a warm embrace cover him. He witnessed his Flame Core glowing brightly and the light coating his entire being. He felt like was gaining the acknowledgment of his Flame Core.
In the outside world Damien had his hands cupped in front of him. Inside of his palms a small white flame appeared. After a few moments the heat in the vicinity flowed into the flame. The flame absorbed the heat from every inanimate object causing them to crumble to ash. Wexley felt his body turning cold that caused his dazzlement to stop. He quickly protected himself with his own mana. Even then his mana was slowly being absorbed.
“Damien, snap out of it! You’re causing massive amounts of damage!”

Damien didn’t hear a word Wexley said and his flame continued to take the heat away. The classroom was on the verge of collapsing on itself. Wexley was so distressed that he considered taking Damien out himself, but he also knew that he was in a wondrous state.
He didn’t want to be the one to ruin his state so he hardened his nerves and cast a domain barrier around him. The barrier stopped the classroom from being the target of his flame. He continued to pour mana into his barrier or it would be dissolved.
Wexley believed Damien could not keep it up forever and he was right. Damien did not have enough Mana to keep supporting his flame. The absorption slowly came to a stop and his flame had a shade of black within it. Right after Damien slumped to his side passed out from mana exhaustion.
“That was quite scary. What a monstrous whelp.”
Wexley wiped his sweat off his forehead and straightened out his robe. Wexley made his way toward Damien and saw that the flame was floating near him. His instincts immediately kicked in when he felt danger for the first time in many years. Without thinking, he stimulated his body with electricity. With his enhanced speed he launched himself toward Damien.
“We have to get off here. Something bad is going to happen, I know it.”
He picked Damien up and escaped to the exit. Right before he stepped out the flame floated upwards. Once it reached the pinnacle of its height it shined brightly. The light was so bright you could not see anything else besides white. The flame dispersed with all the energy it absorbed.
It became a massive explosion of heat that evaporated the rest of the classroom. The force moved faster than Wexley could ever go and he was clipped on his way out. All that remained was a desolate space that peered into the floor below and above it. Not even the school’s barrier was able to withstand the explosion. Ash filled the space floating around like snowflakes.
Wexley launched himself out of the room while cradling Damien in arms. He skid across the floor where he would eventually be stopped by a wall. Wexley slowly sat up from his position and noticed a trail of blood that reached where he was. He noticed that half his leg was gone and blood kept gushing out of his wound. He did not concern himself with his awful injury and focused on Damien’s condition first.
“You need to be okay Damien. You are my solution.”
Wexley grabbed his wrist and checked his condition by sending a probe of mana through his body. He was relieved to find that he was just unconscious from mana exhaustion. After dealing with his biggest worry he focused on his own problems. Wexley quickly produced a Rune above his injury and placed it down.
“Healing Light”
Wexley’s wound started closing up at a speed visible to the naked eye. Rosiness returned to the color of his skin as the spell helped with his blood loss. It had not even been more than a few moments after what the events that unfolded. The hall was being filled with curious students and professors to see what had happened.
Students were sticking their heads in the classroom from every angle. Inside the classroom if you looked below or above you would see many heads inspecting the cavity created from the explosion. The buzzing of conversation became intense.
They couldn’t help but notice the disheveled Professor Cloudshade who always kept up his appearances and the rumored new kid who was lying still on the floor. Especially the lack of most of Wexley’s leg caused many to speculate on what could’ve happened. They were preying on Wexley’s inherent flaws and picking him apart. Wexley did not mind the rumors that were circulating around him, instead he was more focused on the miracle he witnessed.
Forgetting about the crowd and noise he sat there and mulled over the prior events. He did not even care to move from his position until the noise died down. He brought his attention back to the world and saw Ari Sord followed by a pack of professors.
Ari went to Damien’s side and checked his vitals. He received the same results of mana exhaustion. He picked Damien up and proceeded to carry him between his arms.
“Wexley… fix yourself up and report to me when you are done.”
Ari turned to the crowd with a deadpan expression. Everyone felt his pressure slowly exuding which was their cue to leave.
“Everyone go on with your own business….now.”
He watched them clear out the halls intently. Once they were gone he let out a big sigh of relief. He quietly murmured to himself and Damien in his arms.
“What would I have told Veron if something bad happened. Luckily nothing happened and you will recover.”
Ari nodded to the rest of the professors and walked towards the infirmary where Damien would be placed for recovery. The walk was short with the help of rune constructions that were integrated throughout the school. Right before Ari reached the infirmary he dismissed the professors following him.
He entered the room with a green cross indicating he was where he needed to be. Once inside was a large white space containing 20 beds. There was already a male student being treated for what seemed to be a broken arm. His bone was sticking out from his forearm. He was already sedated, but you could still see his constrained expression.
By his side was a Druid whose features made it hard to determine his gender. He had long silky, black hair with small antlers sticking out on top of his head. His skin was pale blue and he had mysterious dark patterns layered on it. The Druid slid his hands softly across the open cavity. His fingers lit up with the same color as the patterns on his body. A sweet, soft voice came out as if the student was being serenaded.
“Back to normal sweetie. Now you will keep resting. As for you Headmaster, what happened to that poor boy.”
Ari’s face froze up a bit as he felt the effects of the Druid's voice slightly alter his mental state.
“Gors, what did I say about your Voice Charm? Never mind that, I need to leave this boy to rest. He has Mana Exhaustion, so it will be some days until he wakes. Check on him every once in a while. Contact me if anything happens.”
Gors amusedly put his hand on his chin and put on a devilish smile.
“Oh my Headmaster, to think you would personally see to his aide. Then I will treat him with extra care.”
Gors held his last note, but it did not even faze Ari this time.
“Yes you will, or you will answer to Veron Flor if anything were to go awry with his grandson.”
With that statement Ari exited the premises as he talked to himself.
“That’s if he actually responds. He has not replied to any of my messages. Just comes in and drops off his grandson like I’m a babysitter. That bastard is always the same.”
Ari let out a stressed smile and returned to his busy schedule. He needed to prepare for Wexley’s report of the situation and handle the next steps. Ari disappeared with quicker and quicker steps as he thought of how busy he would be today.
He left Gors behind who was now dismayed in an instant. His promiscuous attitude disappeared leaving only a serious atmosphere.
“So you’re that new kid. Already the first day and you made quite the ruckus today.”
Gors situated Damien inside the infirmary. He placed him on a bed and even tucked him in too. Gors casted a reinvigoration spell to help with his condition and stabilize his empty vessel.
“Sweet dreams honey.”
Gors went on to continue his usual duty and left Damien to rest.
