Chapter 59: Easygoing

Damien was now faced with a new challenge in front of him. He had let his guard down and now an enemy was within arms reach. Even with everything at stake and he could easily fall to an attack, Damien was actually disappointed that her appearance was changed. Any untrained fellow involving seductiveness would feel the same way at this moment. It felt like a complete waste to look that good but also not being your true self. Although it was a time of grief for Damien, he didn’t feel so bad in the end. He did have a world class beauty by his side on this journey that trumped anything the woman in front him threw at him. He was so sure of this fact that the disappointing feeling vanished without a trace. However, what he didn’t know was that he let his thoughts out for her to know.

“Shame. Well doesn’t matter, Aya is much more beautiful and graceful. There’s no comparison really. I feel a lot better now, whew.”

His outlandish comments about her froze her on the spot. She had never dealt with such a manner of person nor was ever insulted in this way. Even Tenzin was nice to her and treated her to nights alone with each other, but this mysteriously dressed little person didn’t seem to care about her one bit. It struck a nerve with her ego, bringing her to madness.

“You virgin little twat! How dare you make a mockery of me!”

The unnamed succubus lunged out with her claw-like hands, aiming straight for Damien’s neck. Damien was not caught off guard this time. From the moment he regained his clarity, he had already gotten ready to attack or defend as needed and now was that time. He had his sword, Thunder, down by his side and slashed upwards meeting her claws. His strike was a blur as he made the sword near weightless right until the moment of contact. This took skill and precision to accomplish a maximum speed strike. If your timing was off even by a millisecond, it could change the outcome of your perceived attack. With the perfect strike he easily cut through her hand like paper and followed it through. He cut off most of her right wing as well, leaving her tattered and in shock. Right when he felt accomplished for squashing her scheme, Damien’s Dao Domain sensed an incoming attack.

In a fluid motion, his upward swinging sword came down to his back to block a different strike. Sparks flew out from the grinding swords while Damien rolled himself forward to escape the binding situation. Luckily for him these two were not coordinated and the succubus was lost in pain. She ran away in a hurry, scared she would lose her life if she stayed any longer. As for the sneaky assassin, he failed once more, but he didn’t stick around to be gloated on in shame. Damien let out a sigh of relief for surviving another confrontation.

“I suppose I should attack first, then ask questions later from now on.”

Damien had a change of mentality and was joined by Aya a little later as he continued. Damien knew what she was doing so he didn’t bother in complaining, instead he had questions for her that had been stuck in his mind since the confrontation with the succubus. Aya sensed exactly what was on his mind with the look on his face along with the fact that she heard their conversation from a distance. She quickly put a stop to his sentence to never have to explain such things to him. Damien became more confused by it the more she didn’t want to explain it to him, so he just made a mental note of it so he can research it later.

‘Maybe Cal or Yuki can help me with it. I wonder when I’ll get to see them.’

They walked deeper into the path as the light of day faded into obscurity. There weren't any more sneak attacks coming from the sneaky ogre assassin as Damien likes to call him. However, Damien had a feeling something more was coming in the night, and his feeling came true when he noticed Aya left his side again. He mouthed off into the distance sarcastically thanking her for all her help. He looked around to see who was coming for him now and found two rather weird life forms. They were both shaped like a man, however they were made out of a slime-like substance that allowed them to be transparent. Besides that, they wore no clothes and bore no weapons. Their bodies were constantly moving around like running water. Anyone who saw them would be lost by the juxtaposition of their flowing bodies when they stood still. It made no sense to the ocular sensory, but it is how their bodies worked.

‘Now that’s something I have never heard or read about! The world sure is a mystery!’

These two slime people had no words for Damien and instead preferred to attack in silence. The arms transformed into a sharp point that could impale through the toughest of material. Damien immediately felt the gravity of the situation as they no longer appeared to be harmless creatures. One of them decomposed their body to a puddle of liquid and soaked into the floor while the other attacked Damien straight on. As the slime entered Damien’s Domain he instantly started sizzling and slowed down as a result. A screech could be heard as every cell of its body cried out for help, but it didn’t stop him from going through with his strike. Damien slashed through his arm weapon with so much ease it startled him. The piece that came off landed on his face and started invading his body. It went through his pores and any available entrance so that it could find a way into his vital organs. The main part of the body left the Domain as it could no longer stay there without withholding serious injuries.

Damien felt in ick run through his body down his throat. Seeing that their weakness was a hot environment he knew what to do. He started heating up his body like a blacksmith's furnace to kill off the slime cells in his body. Before he could get them all evaporated a slime arm came out of the ground and grabbed his leg. It dragged Damien’s leg into a ditch and broke leg bones. The pain caused enough distraction for Damien to lose control of his technique and to release his Dao Domain. Without its protection he was susceptible to the ogre assassin while he still had a slime intruder in his body. Damien was crying out in pain because this was the first time he broke his bone. There was no one to help him and he was losing control of the situation for the first time with Aya.

Aya watched on from the sky as she hid in the clouds. Underneath her mask, her face held no emotion, but her hands were clenched to the point where she made herself bleed. She was a heartless person when it came to others, but this was a different story. She forced him under her wing so that she could assess him. Now she was forced to see what he was truly made of and maybe that could give her answers of what Damien really was.

“Show me. Show me what you are hiding.”

Back to the fight below, Damien’s mind was going through thousands of emotions. The pain, anxiety from not being in control, fear of death, these emotions hounded his mind, the locks it held in place to keep him sane. For some reason his Flame Core was awfully quiet and offered no assistance this time around. It was as if it also wanted to test Damien and to let him fly on his own. Damien had to rein in his emotions and rationally find the steps in order to survive this ordeal. Time slowed down for Damien as he noticed every single detail laid out before him. The slime inside his body was covering every organ he had and was ready to suffocate him to death. While that happened the two slime creatures joined up and were getting ready for their final blow as well. And in the corner of his eyes he saw a small glint traveling at a rapid rate to cut him down. So much had happened at once that caught him off guard. These new types of creatures and beasts were something he had never seen before, which reinforced his ideals and goals. Even though he was on the verge of being slain, he had an infatuated twinkle in his eye like this was what he wanted to experience.

‘This is actually fun! I’m learning about different species! Okay, first I ignore the radiating pain from my leg and focus on vaporizing the slime infiltrating my organs. After that I need to reexpand my Dao Domain to block that sneaky ogre. Then I finally follow it up with a wide area fire attack to scare off those two slimes.’

Damien thought out his plan in a blink of an eye. Everything was still moving slowly so he sucked in the pain and cleared his mind. Now that there were no distractions he sent a focalized heat wave through body and directly to his invader. It was as if a solar flare came over it and vaporized it into nothing. Once that was done Damien looked up with a wide and creepy smile toward his next attacker.
