Chapter 58: Bandit Captains

Chapter 58: Bandit Captains

Damien stood on guard from every angle on the open prairie. Each attack came from a different side so he could not pinpoint where the assailant was. At this point everything became eerily quiet which caused alarms to go off in Damien’s head.

‘It’s far too quiet… somethings not right.’

As he was pondering his situation, a voice inside his mind told him to duck away immediately. He did as he was told and felt something deadly pass by his back. There was no sound, nor any wind movement to indicate the blow that came his way. A cold sweat ran down Damien’s spine as he knew if there wasn’t anyone to warn him, he would’ve been chopped in half. He quickly got up and drew his sword in his defensive stance to activate his domain. The strike came down upon him again, but this time his domain was able to expose the attack and the assailant. Damien quickly blocked the attack with a strike of his own, sending the assailant a good distance away. His body seemed to be glitching as Damien’s domain screwed over his camouflage technique. He became very annoyed when he realized he was exposed out in the open.

“Che, I made a bet I could take you down myself. Now I have to pay up those bums.”

He deactivated his camouflage and completely revealed himself to Damien. He had every visual feature that would make someone believe he was an ogre, however he was not built like the rest of them. He was average sized with a frail body and he used a long katana like sword. His face had signs of extreme intelligence, while the others were brutish. From their last exchange Damien felt like he had the upper hand, so he pointed his sword as to challenge the unique ogre to a fight. Despite the obvious provocation by Damien, it didn’t rule up his opponent. Instead, the ogre sheathed his long blade and laughed at Damien’s face.

“I’m not in the business of giving fair fights anymore, runt. Especially when I know I can’t take you head on. Don’t worry though, I’ll be around when you least expect it.”

With his final words out of the way, he reactivated his camouflage and disappeared with a special Light Dao technique. All Damien could hear now was his faint laughter in every direction.

‘I have to keep my Dao Domain active at all times or he will get me.’

Damien was unsure at this point to continue down the path or to stay put where he was. He was vigilant of not just the ogre but of others as well because he heard him say that there were others. Eventually, Damien became bored from waiting, since nothing was happening. He made his way back to the path and thought about retreating back to the main road, but when he thought about how Aya was spectating him, he continued to advance. Damien walked for an hour with an active domain, but he saw no action. He could only believe they wanted to wear him down mentally and physically. But they didn’t know Damien’s stamina was on another level, so he wasn’t bothered a bit.

As he was hiking over a hill, he saw a long shadow overcome his entire body. A figure stood at the very top, covering the setting sun. The flare of the sun behind the figure made it so Damien could not distinguish any features or details of who he was dealing with. He stopped in his tracks while he readied himself against another opponent. The figure’s shadow grew even taller as what appeared to be a pair of wings came out of her sides. This made Damien even more cautious while he focused entirely on maintaining a perfect domain. It was a stand off except it went on for a little too long where Damien was confused if that was actually an enemy.

‘I will see what that really is. I’ll just give them a little spook for now.’

Damien charger up a basic fireball into his palm, powering it with his own Mana. It was one of the simplest spells or techniques anyone could learn with basic Fire Dao understanding, but it was different with Damien. With his Dao comprehension and purity of Mana it reached a whole new level of destruction. Sometimes it was better for things to be simple rather than a complex string of techniques to just form an attack. However, this depended upon the person and how their personality is. Everyone has their own signature blended style that shows others who they really are. As for Damien, it shows he has an affinity for basic but immense havoc and destruction. A straightforward kid that held nothing back in a true fight.

The white fireball was being fleshed out with its full strength on display. Anything that could be wilted did so immediately and the massive heat waves reached the figure in the distance. Damien was ready to launch a full blow attack, but what happened the following moment went down a completely different track. The unknown person on top of the hill came panicking down in a rush with hands waving about like they were waving the white flag. A shrill but seductive voice rang out and bounced around in Damien’s mind to his entire body.

“Waiiit! I didn’t come here to fight! I just want to have a talk on behalf of our organization! Please.”

He instinctively sucked all the Mana from the fire back into his system and let his gaurd down. The voice had a hypnotic affect that made Damien believe in her words. Damien watched as the figure got out of the sun’s way which caused another significant mental strike. It was a women of innate seductiveness with a pair of wings coming out of her lower back. She wore clothing that accentuated every possible arousal point and made for a sight for any person to see. Her skin was flawless that made the clouds jealous of how supple something could be. She had every single aspect going for her and she was running down to Damien with panic.

‘Wow.’

Damien had no other words to describe her and he lost all train of thought. She gave him a combo attack that many wouldn’t even be able to stand at this point and go straight into her grasp. However, whatever Damien lacked in mental fortitude and worldly experiences, he made up for his unnatural gifts along with his Flame Core that kept him level headed. The succubus-like woman came to meet Damien face to face trying to appear as seductive as she could with a red shade on her face from the run she made. She caught her breath with a flip of her lustrous and silky black hair. Damien had no idea what to do but he just waited for her to continue her dialogue.

“Good thing I stopped you! I was frightened to death, really. You see, I’m not a fighter. In fact, I am a negotiator on behalf of Tenzin, our leader. Would you like to speak terms with me, cutie?”

Damien was too stunned to speak at this point. Even though he has no experience with this type of mental attack, he didn’t lose himself entirely. He just nodded along because he believed it would be better to end this peacefully so he can get to his training faster. She seemed pleased with herself as her face became more twisted while Damien became entranced. She was enthralled with others being under her control, so she gave her final blow that would make anyone follow her obediently.

“You’re such a good and loyal dog, aren’t you? Yes you are. Tenzin has said if you were to be cooperative then you can have me for a while before we go speak with him. Take my hand and let me take you to my place.”

The entire time Damien was entranced by her natural abilities until this moment. His train of thought was lost when he heard her talk about “having her.” It was not in Damien’s vocabulary to know any of those kinds of affairs, so for once during this exchange he broke free from her spell. He tilted his head in confusion and asked her what she meant.

“Have you? What does that mean? How can I have you?”

The temptress’ excitement disappeared when she came to find out he had no idea what she was talking about. This caused extreme confusion to disrupt everything she built up as Damien started remembering what was going and where he was. His vision came back clearly where he was now able to see her true colors. Her whole demeanor changed from a sexy and enchanting woman that could blow your neck off with whiplash to a ruthlessly cold appearance that put a winter night to shame. Damien felt that cold energy deep into his body, using a different approach to tranquilize him, but the thought of what she said was still resounding in his head. He knew about a lot of things as he studied hard, but some things were never brought to his attention, like this. He stuck his hand out in her face to stop her from continuing and to give himself a chance to speak again.

“No, wait. You have to tell me what you meant. This is new to me.”

The succubus shrieked with delusion while she yanked on her hair with despair. Her body started changing and cracking apart her skin. Dark gray feathers grew out of her body, encompassing her from head to toe. She was now a vicious creature ready to end Damien.
