Chapter 49: Robed Doll (3)

Chapter 49: Robed Doll (3)

The moment the two of them pushed each other away, Soren immediately charged forward once more, while the doll quickly dashed out of the trajectory of the attack, before swinging its wand and shooting burning embers towards him. Seeing the embers coming towards him, he quickly rolled away and swung his sword towards the doll, before it got its chance to cast another spell, while the doll retaliated with creating a Bubble Shot in front of it.

Unfortunately, Soren didn't have the time to dodge it, so he charged straight into the bubble, drenching himself in the process, before managing to land a solid hit on the doll, sending it flying a few feet backwards. Once the doll landed with a somersault, it shook its stick and small sparks started flying from its tip, before charging forwards him and swinging its stick towards him, while swiftly retaliating with a block. Unfortunately, the sparks touched his sword and because his entire body was drenched, his body got jolted with electricity, giving the doll the opportunity to give him a swift kick to his face and sending him towards a nearby tree.

As Soren was recovering from the impact, his body temperature slowly dropped, as the doll was blowing cold wind towards him with Cold Breath, so he quickly hid behind a tree and drank a potion, before leaping towards another tree. Seeing Soren leap behind another tree, the doll directed its cold winds towards his new hiding spot, but he'd simply leap towards another tree and occasionally drinking a potion, creating a loop of the same actions between the two of them for a few minutes, until the cold winds slowly died down.

Once the winds completely died down, Soren peeked from one of the sides of the tree and seeing the robed doll looking winded and out of breath, he quickly charged towards the doll and sent it flying towards one of the trees with a swift kick, before piercing its body with the sword, pinning it on the tree with the sword stuck in its chest. The doll desperately flailed its body and even tried pull the sword of its body, but its tiny hands weren't capable of touching the hilt, so its life slowly ebbed out, until its body became limp, as it was hanging motionlessly on the tree. Seeing the doll die, Soren immediately felt relief as not only was his target slain, but he got a familiar notification as additional proof.

Beginner Sword Proficiency has leveled up. (+1 Agility)

"Target... slain... *thud* Serious question... Is this doll the weakest target on the list or not?" Soren, as his body laid on the ground breathlessly.

"Stat wise, the doll, otherwise known as the Napper Caster, is the weakest from the entire list... It has... Only 35 stat points, with most of its stats being allocated on Intellect and Wisdom and the rest... being mixed between the rest of its physical stats. In terms of its ability set, I'd say... maybe one of the harder ones? It certainly has the most spells out of everything in the list, I think... Even then, with its big MP pool, it doesn't last in battles of endurance, as you've experienced yourself." Dr.Vale explained, as paper noises echoed in the background.

'I'm already starting to worry about my future in the game, if you yourself don't know what kind of creatures have put into it...' Soren thought worriedly, as he could only imagine his fights becoming harder in the future. While doing so, he quickly opened his status and skill panels and as he was going through them, he couldn't help notice that his magic proficiency is starting to lag behind.

Although he'd like to keep grinding his sword proficiency and hit level 10 to obtain a skill from it, he still wants his magic proficiency to be up to par with his weapon proficiency. After closing the panel, Soren lifted his body from the ground and drank a potion, before pulling his sword out of the doll's limp corpse and storing both of them in his inventory.

"So, since my target's been defeated, what do I do now?" Soren asked, as he was expecting a state change of some kind.

"You play normally. What else do you expect to do?" Dr.Vale stated coldly, causing Soren to feel somewhat embarrassed, since he had momentarily forgotten that he'd be mainly focusing on his targets. Since he had defeated his target, he was basically free to do whatever he wanted, but wasn't exactly sure of his next objective, as he was feeling torn between choosing to get his sword skill first, or training up his bless magic up to his sword's level. As he was contemplating his choice, he slowly made his way back towards the settlement, as he swiftly dealt with any of the critters that came on his way.

'Talking about extremely unlucky... Only six rabbits and a squire...' Soren thought to himself, as he stopped in front of the settlement and looked at his inventory, which was nearly empty, aside from his sword, four health potions, the dead caster's body and his kills, including the spiky rats and the stronger dolls. Seeing this, he knew he'd have to be even more prepared than before and he'd need an even bigger amount of potions, but the rewards from the current quests wouldn't be enough for him anymore, so he chose to go to the Hunter's guild for the state of his own promotion.

*snore* "Ah! Who's... Oh, it's just you kid... So, will you still take on the easy quests or do you want to talk now?" Stephen asked, as he stretched his body and gave Soren a good look.

"Honestly, I'd say to turn in the kills as usual, but I barely have any of the usual kills, since I went to hunt deeper in the forest." Soren stated, as he pulled out the new creatures he killed, excluding the caster, as he wasn't sure of his reaction upon seeing its corpse.

"Ooh... Rabid Hogs, Slothful Knights... Not bad... Seems like you're slowly climbing up the food chain Soren, but that's not the whole story, is it? I know you have more hidden on person, so don't try to hide it." Stephen stated eagerly, as he signaled him to pull out more stuff from his inventory.

*sigh* "Fine, but try not to be shocked..." Soren requested, as he took out the caster's body and placed it on the counter, while awaiting Stephen's reaction. Stephen on the other hand, slowly rubbed his eyes, before picking up the caster carefully and examining from all its sides. Once he finished examining it, he slowly placed it down once more and asked in an unnaturally calm manner. "Soren... This wouldn't happen to be a real Napper Caster, would it?"
