Chapter 24: Morgan (1)

*groan* "Can't believe I actually pulled an all-nighter for such a report... How's it actually harder to fill the word count than to write my actual feedback report? God, this felt almost like a university assignment. Thank god he won't grade me for this sh*t..." Soren commented tiredly, as he was currently doing a final supply check in the Resting Ground, since Friday and Saturday were by far his busiest days of the week, since a lot of customers would be coming during both his morning and afternoon shifts. Due to the weekend itself, a lot people would be ending their hectic and busy weekly on either Friday or Saturday, giving them time to relax and rest for the rest of the week.

After checking that he had more than enough supplies to last him for both days, he opened the shop and waited for his customers to arrive and as usual, the elderly couple would always be his first pair of customers. Of course, he couldn't engage in idle conversation as he would usually do, since more elderly people were entering as well and he had to focus on making everyone's orders. Time slowly passed and various orders of decaffeinated cappuccinos and espressos or Turkish coffee were made by every customer. He was capable of making frappes, lattes and other kinds of coffee, but most of his morning shift's clientele was either old men or elderly couples, with very few outliers and all of them preferred to drink some sort of dark or soft coffee, without having to worry about their health.

Once the end of the shift, at 1 PM, arrived, Soren slowly cleaned the last few tables that had leftover coffee cups and snack plates, before closing the doors on the shop to sweep the floor, take care of the dirty cups and dishes, perform a quick check on his remaining supplies and eat his lunch, before reopening the shop for his afternoon shift, at 3 PM. From then onward, there would be far less elderly customers and more office workers and university students usually, he had to make a variety of different types of coffee, but thankfully for himself, the work he had to do himself wasn't on an overwhelming level, despite having to take the orders himself, making the coffee and having to clean the tables. By the time it was nearing 8 PM, Soren had finished serving his last customers and was currently cleaning the last couple of tables, before having to close for the night.

While washing the last coffee cup, the door opened and just as Soren was about welcome his next customer and ask about their order, his calm and welcoming expression turned into a surprised one, as he recognized one of the two people that entered, that being a familiar man with curly brown hair and a familiar black suit, right next a man to a bald man in a similar suit.

"Dr.Morgan, welcome. Please take a seat." Soren greeted calmly, as he hid the joy he was feeling, when he saw him once more.

"Glad to back in Glaxion City once more. It's fine to go to the other cities, but nothing beats this cozy shop. Neil, take a seat and feel free to order something as well. Coffee's on me for tonight, so don't feel shy or anything. As for me, make me the usual Soren." Morgan stated, as he took a seat, while Neil silently took a seat near Morgan, without taking an order.

"So, where did you go doctor, since you mentioned you're happy to be back to Glaxion City." Soren asked casually, as he waited for the coffee to to boil.

"I left the town for a couple days, since I had to give a seminar in psychology of stress and methods to deal with everyday stress to young university students in Vanadis City." Morgan explained casually, as he leaned back on his chair.

"Oh? Which university? The Western Vanadis Medicinal University?"

"The Southern Vanadis University of Space and Astronomy."

"Ah... Makes sense. I've heard that its courses are absolutely brutal, especially for those who want to be astronauts." Soren stated, as he pour the coffee on a glass cup, before adding a bit of whiskey and sugar and gently mixing it.

"The word "brutal" is an understatement, to say the least. At least half of the students had dark circles under their eyes and the rest looked like they were on the verge of a stress-induced mental breakdown. I pity the students, but also understand and respect their decision to put themselves through the mental wringer for the occupation they desire."

"You don't say... Anyways, here's your coffee Dr.Morgan. An Irish coffee with extra whiskey, your personal favorite. Speaking of which, do you wish to drink something as well?" Soren served Morgan's order, before turning his attention towards Neil, who looked pretty apprehensive.

"N-No need... I'm not one for drinking c-coffee. Thank you f-for the offer t-though." Neil rejected in a nervous manner, as he desperately shook his hands.

"I see. I won't force you to drink anything." Soren then decided to engage on some small talk with Morgan, as the two of them mainly spoke about mundane topics, such as their days, their work and occasionally some random topics. It wasn't before long the topic of Birth of Cosmos Online came up, as Morgan was the one to bring it up first.

"So, how's you experience in Birth of Cosmos Online? Are you glad the TV channels aren't talking about it as much?" Morgan asked joyfully, as he remembered how frustrated Soren was during the past week, since he was sick of seeing the same commercial for weeks.

"I feel like they're talking more about BCO than ever, even in NN24. Hell, they were talking about the game's magic skills you get at whatever level 10 elemental magic proficiency you could get. I'm fine with knowing that, but how's that going to help me when I barely made it past level 5 on my own magic proficiency. I'll just focus on grinding so I can get into the dungeons and collect my cash from there."

"Just relax Soren, it's just a game at the end of the day. Remember that haste makes waste. You know well enough what happens when you try to rush through things."

*sigh* "I know doc. I don't intend to rush through it. I'll only take on the challenges that I'm confident and capable of handling. I have no intention to go after whatever big monster I see, just because of the "potential loot" I can obtain. Loot is good to obtain, but I need to be capable of obtaining it in the first place. Speaking of which, what's your opinion on the game?"

*sip* "I can say that it's a novel game, but once the genre gets saturated with more games, it'll be quickly seen that although it has a variety of monsters to fight and environments to explore, there's not much else to it. There's no overarching story, no specific objective, nothing with a specific direction in mind. For now, the dungeons are the objective, but once that objective has been completed, I highly doubt people would want to stick around for much longer for a game, where the only thing you do is fight monsters and crawl through dungeons with no objective in mind. People who enjoy the dungeon crawling like you, are a dying breed nowdays and people would rather to have some sort of direction with no freedom, rather than be dropped in the middle of nowhere with no specific direction in mind, but the freedom to do whatever they want and however they could." Morgan explained in a serious manner, as he had a somber expression on face and stared at the TV, which showed a commercial for BCO.
