Chapter 25: Morgan (2)

Chapter 25: Morgan (2)

*sigh* 'I guess there's no one that shares my interest in endless dungeon crawling...' Soren thought depressingly to himself, before Morgan interrupted his thoughts. "Then again, this is just my opinion and who knows what people want. Maybe they are sick of linearity and want the freedom this game provides. No need to be so serious Soren and just take my opinion with a grain of salt."

"Yeah... Got it doc..." *sigh* "Speaking of which, how's your own progress in the game and do you intend to play it casually as well?"

"My progress... Honestly, I think I've barely sunk a couple hours altogether. Honestly, I don't get how everyone has so much energy to play this game? It barely takes me an hour before I get start feeling tapped out of energy."

"Um... Doc, you do know the fatigue you feel in game is completely artificial and it will go away after a few of minutes? You don't need to constantly fight whichever enemy you see in front of you."

"It's not that Soren. I literally can't play for that long, since I don't have the actual mental energy to play for long periods of time. Maybe it's just a sign that shows I'm getting old..."

"Doctor, being under sixty years old is not that old. If anything, you still look pretty young, despite nearing that age." Soren stated, as he tried to console Morgan, since the topic of his age was something that would usually dampen his mood quite significantly.

"Well... Aside from dyeing my hair a bit, I do have to admit that I'm still a handsome man. Now if only I could fix my back pains. Ha ha..." Morgan jokingly stated, before his expression turned into a cold one, as he spoke in a far more serious tone. "Unfortunately Soren, I haven't come tonight just for our usual small talk. I believe you should recognize this object."

At that moment, Morgan took out a familiar object out of his coat, the modified AT-0 Game Helmet he had been using the past week and once he took it out, Soren's jovial expression turned into a serious one as well, as he asked in a similar manner. "So, I guess you're my assigned nurse for my shifts?"

"Good to know you noggin is still working properly. As you are probably aware by now, me and Neil will be the replacements of your previous co-workers for the next couple of weeks, but that should come as no surprise to you, as you have probably been updated by now. The arrangements will be the same as before, so don't expect any changes whatsoever."

*sigh* "And here I thought the situation would suddenly turn worse all of a sudden with you involved." Soren commented in a relieved manner, as he sat back on his chair and let his body relax.

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

"What's that supposed to mean?" *crack* Morgan asked coldly, as he cracked his knuckles and rose from his seat.

"It means I'm glad to have you around, since it means I'm safe hands and I love you doc."

"Thought so." Afterwards Morgan sat down, as Soren inwardly exhaled, since he dodged his own metaphorical bullet.

"Alright. Then let me close up the shop quickly and get started with my evening shift. You two can either go ahead or wait for me to lock down the shop." Afterwards, the three of them left the shop and Soren started locking up the shop and while doing so, Neil couldn't help but ask in a quiet manner. "Sir, is this fine? This is a very sensitive project and should something go wrong, his death will be the best case scenario, at the very least. This isn't something that needs the involvement of a normal civilian and who knows-"

"You worry too much Neil. If there were any actual problems in the first, either they would have happened by now, or they have been ironed out, so don't ruffle your feathers too much." Morgan explained coldly, as he kept his eyes on Soren.

"But what about the ci-"

*smack* "It never happened. It will never happen. Now keep quiet." With that final sentence, the two of them quieted down and waited for Soren to close up the shop, before following him towards his apartment. While doing so, Soren and Morgan engaged on a bit of occasional small talk, while Neil kept completely quiet, as his wasn't sure how to process the sight of one of his superiors being genuinely cordial with someone else, despite having a well known reputation in the company of being a cold-hearted and cruel man who overworks people. After the three of them arrived at Soren's apartment, Neil quickly took out the necessary equipment from his bag and connected it to the back of the helmet. While doing so, he couldn't help but get a look of the apartment and ask curiously.

"By the way, how much is the rent for this apartment?"

"A bit over 600 credits a month. It's cheap and spacious." Soren responded casually, as drank some water.

"600!? No f*cking way! This apartment's worth at least 1500 credits a month, maybe 2000... But certainly not 600!"

"You would be right, if this apartment wasn't stigmatized property."

"Stigmatized...? You mean someone's been murdered in this apartment!?" Neil asked nervously, as he pulled out a cross and shook it around him maniacally.

"Yup... A family of five during 1999 by a man with a mustache. They say he's still roaming the streets to this day." Soren explain smugly, as he enjoyed Neil's ashen expression.

"Hic! Wait... That would mean that murder would be 80 years old by now and not only that, but how would that be possible? This building's not even ten years old, so how is this... *sigh* Get stuffed you bugger." After Neil realized that he was being played, he stopped trying to converse and finished connecting the cables on the helmet, before giving it to Soren once more. Afterwards, Soren wore it while laying on the couch and entered the game.

"It was the house of a perverted murderer. You should know the name of the One-Eyed R*pist. He was a well known criminal around five years ago, with a victim count of seven young females and two middle-aged females. Thankfully, he was caught within less than three weeks, but he was a really slippery bastard who was rumored to have the ability to change faces at will." Morgan explained in a menacing manner, as he took a seat on a nearby chair, while staring at the window in the living room.

*gulp* "For real...?" Neil asked nervously, as he remembered how much of a stir that incident caused and even was nearly caught into that mess, since one of the victims happened to be his neighbors in his own apartment building.

"Of course not. That bastard had an illegal Pseudomorph Mask. Despite being caught, the police still hasn't found it and they even tore down this entire apartment, even the walls and floors, but found nothing at the time."

"Wait, how do you know so much sir? Were you-"

"Long story Neil. One I'd never have to retell ever in my life. Also, I'd suggest to learn how to not ask many questions, lest you'd like something to happen." With that last sentence, the room was silent once more, as the two of them paid attention on the game feed that Soren was providing.
