"It's impressive, isn't it? Four floors, filled with hundreds of people risking their lives for the sake of progress..." The man asked with a prideful expression, as he stared down at the workers.
"Frankly... I'm less impressed and more... nervous. If anything, this looks like a medical facility, meant for mass human experimentation. The only thing its missing is giant pods filled with bizarre liquids and human bodies and this place would like it came out of a sci-fi horror movie." Soren stated awkwardly, as he stepped back unconsciously and started having second thoughts about his choice.
"Don't worry, it's just a natural feeling. Besides, you'll get used to this sight in a few days, since all four floors look exactly the same. Anyways, floor B6, the floor we're currently in, is where most of the work with the Full-Dive Technology is done. The main purpose of this floor is mainly for fine-tuning and bug fixing of the FDT and AION, so this is a floor you won't be stopping by a lot. Floor B7 is mainly used for environmental testing and sometimes combat training by soldiers and police officers, so if you happen to see some soldiers and officers in uniform during your break time, just know they were in B7 and were training."
"Soldiers!? Police officers!? Wait, since when have you guys been training them?" Soren asked nervously, as the idea of being forced to come into contact with the police and military, was enough to send shivers down his spine.
"It's been a couple months and as far as I know, it's mainly used for combat scenario training. Soren, was it?" The man asked for clarification, as Soren nodded in response, before the man continued his explanation. "Good. Anyways, I wouldn't worry much about them if I were you. They're mostly focused on their work, so they won't give two sh*ts about you or anyone else in here, unless someone breaks the law. Either way, you'll probably have to go through a few sessions here, usually within the first couple of months, mainly to gauge your "physical" capabilities and tolerance in the various environments.
Next floor is B8 and that's where work for BCO is usually done. I don't know much too much about the work process there, since I mainly work on B7, but I expect it to be similar to my work of going through various environments, but in the game's environments. As for B9 floor, it's a bit of a mix of the previous three floors, but its main purpose is the city's exploration. Honestly, I doubt they'd station a new guy like you there, so you'll probably be stationed either on B7 or B8."
"Y-Yeah..." Soren nodded nervously, as he knew that he'd be stationed on the B9 floor.
"Well, thank you for taking the AionTech facility tour. Do you have any questions before going back to the first floor?" The man in a casual manner, as Soren didn't know what to ask and was left somewhat dumbstruck.
"Um... When... do... I get started? When's my first shift?" Soren asked, as he barely managed to come up with a question.
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
"I don't know. You'll be informed on the first floor, after you get your company ID, which is required for most of the facilities. Since you don't seem to have any other questions, let us make our way towards the first floor." Afterwards, the two of them entered the elevator once more and slowly made their towards the first floor. Once they arrived on the first floor, the two of them walked down the hallway, until the man stopped in front of a half-opened door and started talking, while pointing towards it. "Here we are. Just wait in this office until someone comes and they'll create your company ID. I'll wish you the best of luck and all that. Goodbye and... *groan* Don't die on your first week..."
'What an unfriendly weirdo... Couldn't he be a bit friendlier or something, at least?' Soren thought to himself, as he watched the silver-haired man's figure disappear towards a corner and wondered if he had been unlucky with his choice of a tour guide, before entering the office and taking a seat, while waiting for an employee to create his ID. In the meantime, he spent his time going through the new apps on his phone, even though he knew one of them. After a couple of minutes of examining the apps, he couldn't help but sigh in relief, as the none of the apps had any malicious intent, but he couldn't relax his guard around them either.
Haveltite was a fairly well-known security and anti-malware application, so he didn't worry much about it, although it certainly was a bit on the expensive side of the security protection applications. As for AionTech Communications, it was simply a custom communications app, made for in-company use only, so it could only be used by registered company employees, by inputting the necessary credentials, given by the company itself. AionGenesis on the other hand, was a rather bizarre application. At a first glance, it was an application that acted at AionTech's main website, which included most of their public information, but through a bit of searching by using the universal search engine NewWorld, he found out that certain words or word combinations were being completely censored and any attempt to try and search them, would result in either searching completely different pages, or the pages wouldn't load properly and would forcefully crash his search engine application, as well as wipe the search data from the past fifteen minutes.
"No wonder..." Soren commented silently, as he shook his head in both an understanding and frustrated manner, before putting away his phone and leaned back at his chair, as he dozed off for a bit. It wouldn't be long before his dozing was interrupted by the noise of footsteps, so he quickly shook himself awake and sat upright on his chair, while waiting for the employee to sit down at his desk.
"Oh! I didn't know someone was waiting for me. I'm very sorry for being late! Please tell me how may I help you?" A black-haired male employee entered in the office, before he quickly made his way towards his desk, as he first bowed his head and then asked in a business-like manner.
"I'm here to get my company ID, since I've been hired last night and just finished my tour of the company's facilities." Soren stated calmly, as he spoke in a similar manner as well.
"I see. Give me your name first."
"Soren Pascianno." Once Soren gave his name, the employee started typing on his computer for a couple of minutes, before taking out a gun-like device that emitted a green light and slowly shook it in front of Soren's face. After shaking it, the employee continued typing while putting it away, before taking out a plastic card with Soren's portrait on the left and his basic information on the right and back, such as his name, age, position and ID number.
"Your identification card is done. If you wish to log into our website and applications, you'll only need to enter your first and last name, as well as your ID number, although it is highly suggested to change your credentials immediately for safety reasons." The employee stated stoically, as he handed Soren his ID card.
"Thank you sir." Soren thanked him politely and just as he was about to leave, the employee asked him one last question. "Speaking of which, who gave you the tour of our facilities?"
"Well, it was some white-haired man with a white shirt and a pair of gray shorts. Why do you ask?" Soren asked slightly nervously, as he felt like he might have involved himself with a troublesome individual.
*sigh* "...It's nothing. You can get going now. Ah, before I forget as well. You'll start your shifts tomorrow at nine on floor B8. Meet up with Dr.Vale, as she'll be the one to fill you in on the rest, such as your required work you'll need to perform." With that last statement, Soren thanked the employee and left the office, with his new ID in his hands.
