Belli Mundi - Chapter 36

“Damn that is a lot.”

After checking everything over, she couldn’t help herself.

“You ok Sam?”

“Yeah, I just have a lot going on with my status.”

“We kinda figured. It’s not that common for people to forget that they have a status. I don’t even know if anyone has muted it for longer periods of time. Care to share?”

“Well, apparently it evolved my class, so there’s that. It gave me quite a few statpoints. I also have five new skills to look at and my skill levels have also risen all over the board.”

“You evolved it? I thought you said that you didn’t even look at it?”

“Yeah, when I didn’t do anything with the max level notification, it automatically evolved my class. I guess it’s a failsafe of the system to make sure you don’t lose out on a large amount of xp in a big fight or something like that.”

“That’s just weird, I’ve never even heard of that. It kinda makes sense, but why doesn’t anyone know about it? Everyone always says to immediately accept the evolution or reset the class.”

“I don’t know, but I’m lucky it happened. I’m up to level twenty two, so I would’ve lost a lot of xp otherwise. Let me distribute my stats and check out my skills, hold on.”

Sam decided to first use her stats before delving into her new skills. With twenty five points, she decided to increase her main stats by five each, giving her another five points to use on her other stats. With no clear idea on how to use them, she just split them up between intelligence and wisdom, with the leftover point going to luck.

Status:

Str: 20 Int: 13

Agi: 20 Wis: 13

Vit: 20 Cha: 5

End: 20 Luc: 11

With that done, she could finally check out her new skills. She had five new skills to look at, and even though her list was full already, it couldn’t hurt to check them out.

The first three were useful skills for a fighter like her, namely [Kick], [Dodge] and [Backstab]. The first two would help her fight a lot better, and the third would help her if she could sneak up on someone. The thing was, that she wasn’t allowed to change her skills all that much. Trainer Quincy had been really adamant about that.

The last two new skills she gained though, were really difficult to resist. The first of those two, [Mana Attack], was exactly what she needed to use her mana to increase the damage she did to some of the stronger monsters. Apparently the system had noticed her using her mana to increase the potency of her attacks.

The last one was a bit different:

Skill update: Skills [Practice Makes Perfect], [Physical Training] and [Discipline] can be combined into [Legionary Skills].

“Right, so guys, I could use some help.”

“What’s the problem, Sam?”

“Well, apparently several of my skills want to combine. I’m not really sure if I should do it, as trainer Quincy told us not to take any new skills. Can you tell me what would happen if I let them combine?”

When the group heard she had a combination pending, everyone started to pay attention. Xanthe though, immediately and enthusiastically entered the conversation.

“Ooeeh a combined skill, I’ve read about those! Basically the two form one skill that does the job of both, giving you another skill slot. The thing is, the combined skill is both better and weaker than the two skills combined.”

When she stopped talking, everyone waited for her to continue. When she didn’t, Sam asked what everyone was thinking.

“Can you explain further? What’s better and what’s worse?”

“Welll, not exactly. From what I read, every combination works a little bit different. The bad thing is that one, it resets to level one, and two, both skill have a small decrease in the bonus or effect they give.”

“That’s a pretty big point against combining skills, Xanthe. So what’s better about them?”

“That’s the thing, the books only say that it is better to combine them. The one thing I can think of is the extra skill slot, but there must be more to it! Why would anyone want to combine them otherwise, and why would the books say it’s better to do it?”

“So maybe I should wait till we get back and ask our trainer, right? Or maybe ask Kyla the librarian. I’m sure she knows, or at least could find out about it somewhere in the library.”

“Noo, just combine them now! I want to know what it does! I’m sure the others also want to know, right guys?”

Xanthe apparently had some practice with making puppy dog eyes, and most of the group (especially the guys) agreed with her.

Sighing, Sam did what she asked, not having the patience to wait herself. For the entertainment of the others, she actually said what was happening on her status.

“Yes, combine.”

Skill update: [Practice Makes Perfect] lost.

Skill update: [Physical Training] lost.

Skill update: [Discipline] lost.

Skill update: [Legionary Skills] learned.

“Okay, I lost [Practice Makes Perfect], [Physical Training] and [Discipline]. I got Legionary Skills to replace them.”

The next part she didn’t actually tell them, as it was still somewhat a secret:

Skill update: General skill [Practice Makes Perfect] learned

Skill update: General skill [Physical Training] learned

Skill update: General skill [Discipline] learned

“Uhm Sam, you didn’t tell us that there were three skills that would combine, and that those skills were the three mandatory skills we had.” While the others just looked at her silently, Jasper took it upon himself to speak up.

“Maybe you shouldn’t have been so hasty? I’m not sure about what trainer Quincy will think about changing those without permission.”

“Well, those were the three skills I had that looked to be connected, right. Should’ve been obvious. And what do you mean with hasty? All of you guys urged me to accept the combination! Now shush, I’ll fill up my free skill slots.”

Skill update: [Dodge] learned.

Skill update: [Kick] learned.

“And done. Let’s continue exploring, after this we may need more than just one stupid mushroom, however big its thingy is.”
