Sam woke up with a pounding headache.
‘What the hell did we do last night at Sara's party?’ she thought, before anxiously opening her eyes, hoping that the light wouldn’t kill her. Immediately though, she closed them again.
‘Dammit, I should’ve closed the blinds before I passed out.’
When she finally got the courage to keep her eyes open, she immediately forgot her headache. Instead of her cozy apartment in New York, all she saw were trees.
Immediately she jumped out of her bed, only to fall back immediately when her bare feet came into contact with several sharp stones.
“Auch, what the hell!” she shouted, but immediately something else made her shut up.
Rock damage to left foot -1.
Rock damage to right foot -1.
"Okay seriously, what the hell is happening? I thought someone pulled a prank after I passed out, but this is just weird."
When Sam looked up, she saw something that she couldn't have dreamt about. Even though the sun was up, she could see two moons that were also in the sky. Not only that, but one of the moons had some kind of pink haze over it.
“This can’t be earth, can it?"
Thinking about those games the nerds used to play in school, she tried to think about the word ‘Status’ really hard, but nothing happened.
“Maybe I need to say it? Status!” But even that didn’t work.
‘What about my name?’ she thought
“Sam, Samantha, Samantha Bello.” The last one she only reluctantly said, because a lot of people kept thinking it meant ‘beauty’ and other stupid things like it.
But even though she didn’t like the name, this system apparently did. Immediately after saying her full name, a new block of text appeared.

“Okay, that confirms that I’m no longer on earth. At least unless something crazy has happened to not only transport me to this forest, but also change the way the world works. Not something I can rule out I guess. It actually reminds me of some of those stories on the internet about being transported to an RPG world. But other than confirming the weirdness, this status is pretty useless. It doesn’t even know that I’m 24 years old!”
Status update: Do you want to confirm Age: 24? Y/N.
Without thinking too much about it she accepted the prompt.
‘Hmm, maybe I need to poke the status screen a bit more.’
But before she could start that, she heard screaming that sounded really close.
Turning around she found that the sound came from a green figure standing at the edge of the clearing.

While Sam frantically tried to swipe away the prompts, the goblin charged toward her, while holding some kind of knife in its hand. The only thing she could do was backing up as fast as she could, frantically looking for something to defend herself with.
When the goblin arrived at her bed, instead of going around as she expected, it opted to jump on it. While doing so, it got its claws tangled up in the bed sheets that she had so carelessly thrown aside. When she saw the goblin falling face first off the bed, she immediately went for the knife. With a move that she learned at army boot camp before she was kicked out, she managed to disarm the goblin and with one swift motion she stabbed him in the chest.

With relief she saw this prompt arrive. Weary beyond belief she sat down on the bed, while still looking at the dead goblin.
Suddenly more prompts filled her vision.

“Those three seem to be a bit over the top for what appears to be the same thing. What’s up with that?” She asked herself. With a bit of concentration she managed to expand one of the messages.
Status updated: Class set to Warrior
Due to not having a previous class, the new class is automatically assigned.
“Well that explains that I guess, maybe I can also expand some of the stuff on the status screen?”

Immediately her eyes went to the addition to her status, the skill list for her class. If she remembered correctly the warrior was one of the most basic classes, but it was better than having no class at all. And who knew how easy it was to switch later when she unlocked new classes.
"Time to see what skills I have." And again it only took a little concentration to select the ‘Assign’ button for her first skill.
Skill list:
Slash
Grab
Stab
Knife
"Okay, pretty useless I guess. But maybe the skills will only show when I use them somehow?"
After some more concentrating, she eventually managed to get a description of the skills.
Slash:
Slash your weapon against your target.
Grab:
Grab someone to unbalance them.
Stab:
Stab with your weapon.
Knife:
The art of fighting with knives.
“Again with the useless descriptions!” she moaned while still selecting all the skills. Even though she didn’t think she needed a skill to know how to point a knife at something, it still might prove to be useful. Eventually Sam decided she couldn’t find out much more while sitting there. Thus she dismissed her status and stretched before standing up.

"Okay that’s something, and is wasn't even that difficult to do."
Then she started by pulling her bedding together to make a makeshift sack. The bedding wasn’t much, but with her only clothes being her pajamas, it was better than having nothing to keep her warm at night.
Several minutes later found Sam hiding behind a pretty big tree. By peeking around the tree she managed to identify three more of the green goblins. They were level 3, level 4 and the biggest one was even level 6.
‘I need to get out of here. There is no way I’m going to fight that many. Although it might be possible now that I’m not taken by surprise a moment after waking up in a fucking forest.’
As stealthy as she could manage she sneaked away, only to trip over something half hidden in the ground. With a groan she rolled over to see what tripped her up. It was a piece of bone that looked disturbingly human. “I freaking hate this world,” she managed to say before the three goblins she hid from crashed through the woods towards her.
The goblins screamed some unintelligible war cry and seemed to fight to be the first one to attack her. Due to the size of the larger goblin (and possibly his stats), it managed to push the other two to the side.
In the time it took them to reach her though, she managed to throw her bedding aside and take a defensive posture. Her short military training did teach her some knife fighting and hand to hand combat, which finally proved to be useful.
Sidestepping the first goblin, she pounced on the one on the left. A fist to the nose and a knife across the throat managed to take the smallest goblin out of the fight. This made the other two green monsters a bit more cautious. Now instead of holding their knives uselessly above their heads, they held them pointed in Sam’s direction.
The biggest goblin growled a bit before he pushed the smaller one towards her. Stumbling and still a bit hesitant, the goblin advanced. The other one in the meantime used the distraction to circle around.
Not one to back down from the challenge, Sam rushed towards the smaller goblin. Evading his knife, her own knife managed to slash across the green guy’s arm. This made a pretty big wound open up, and the goblin let go of his knife with an ear piercing scream.
As fast as she could, she turned around to face the bigger goblin. Unfortunately she was just a little bit too late. The Goblin used several slicing moves, one of which managed to slash across her own arm. Luckily the wound wasn’t too deep, and she fought through the pain to keep a hold on her knife.
Now that the goblin was this close, she kneed the little bugger, hitting him on his chest. With a loud ‘oompfh’ the goblin fell back with the air pushed out of his lungs, but Sam didn’t let up now that she had the upper hand. With as much force as she could she stabbed her knife into the goblins chest. Immediately after that she turned again to finish off the last goblin.
But the last goblin wasn’t where she had left him. The only thing left was his knife with a pool of blood and half an arm.
“Where the hell did that little bugger go? And why is there an arm lying on the ground? I only sliced the thing up a bit.”
After looking a bit closer at the arm, she could see that it wasn’t cut through by her knife. it looked more like it was bitten off.
“Oh crap.”
Luckily it looked like the creature that took the goblin had stilled it’s hunger with the little green monster, because it was nowhere to be found.
