Meet the Kepplers

~~Marvin Pov~~

It was a weird day in the Inner Houston Juvenile Detention Center, there was no screaming from the boys, the guards weren't yelling, and no fights had broken out. The center was quiet, something that had not happened since its creation.

I was laid in my cell with Corvin, he kept side-eyeing me and would occasionally chuckle and call me a bitch. 'I guess hanging with Brics made him more confident' I thought to myself as I looked at him,

"Fuck you looking at" he barked out, 'It's just the hormones' I thought to myself as I focused on my cell door.

That's when a guard walked up and called for me, "Lewis, pack your stuff and come with me" I was surprised, 'Am I being transferred?, Why?' I wondered to myself. I had not gotten into any conflicts, Brics had not done anything to me after I let him beat me up.

'So what's going on' I was truly confused, but I didn't waste any time packing up my stuff. It wasn't much to begin with, just the things they gave me when I was first processed.

The guard held the door open as I went out, he led me down to the processing center and handed me the clothes I had on the first day I got here. "Change," The guard said shortly, he pointed towards the bathroom on his left.

I went into the restroom and locked the door behind me. As I changed I thought more about what was going on, 'Wait, if I was being transferred Jessica would have said something to me' There was no way I was being transferred, and if that's what's not happening then what is? My confusion just grew larger.

I got out of the restroom and the guard led me toward the front of the center, 'Okay so going through the front, so definitely not being transferred' I thought as me and the guard got closer and closer to the front.

As we got closer, I saw Jessica, she was signing some papers on the counter. "Here he is" The guard announced my presence, before turning and leaving. "You should be smiling a lot more" Jessica took a peek at me as she continued to sign the papers.

'Getting dressed, going to the front, signing papers...Wait don't tell me' My thoughts started racing, an idea of what was happening finally popped into my head. 'Am I being released?' I asked myself, the signs were matching up right now.

"Alright, let's get out of here," Jessica said as she began heading for the door, I swiftly followed behind her. As I headed out, the sun blinded me but after I got over my temporary blindness, I was able to take in the outside world.

"A little dramatic standing there like that, don't you think?" Jessica chuckled as she looked at me, but I didn't care. 'The city's never looked more beautiful' I thought in my head as I took in everything around me.

"Alright free man, we gotta go, we're on a schedule here," Jessica said as we started heading to her car. "How'd you do it?" I had to ask, I was sure that I still had a month left to serve.

"Do what?" Jessica asked back, a sly grin on her face. "You know what, how'd you get me out?"

"Well, I told the judge that putting you on probation with a foster family would be better rehabilitation, and he took pity on you being so young," Jessica said. 'That makes sense, people love kids' I nodded in understanding.

"So where are we going?" I asked, and Jessica's grin grew bigger. "We're gonna meet the Kepplers," she said. 'Keppler... I've heard that before the name sounded familiar to me, "Imagine if he related to Super Bowl winner Joel Keppler" I said with a chuckle.

"He is Joel Keppler," Jessica said. My face twisted in shock, "WHAT THE HELL'' I couldn't help but think, Jessica merely just laughed at my shock.

~~3rd POV~~

The Kepplers were rushing through their house, Joel was setting up plates and going back and forth with the food he had cooking in the kitchen. Olivia was wiping down every surface in the house, somehow the dust just never seemed to leave.

In the middle of this chaos were two kids sitting on a couch watching TV, these were Joel's and Olivia's kids, Brooklyn and Austin. Brooklyn looked exactly like her mother, they had the same brown hair and brown eyes, Austin took after his father, his jawline and nose were similar.

The two kids sat on the couch and focused on the TV, well it was more of Austin focusing on the animated show on the TV. His older sister Brooklyn was focused on her phone, she was scrolling through her social media app, sighing and laughing occasionally.

"Brooke where are the dinner napkins?" Joel's loud voice rang through the air, his daughter ignored him, she usually did this as she thought if it was truly important, you would ask a second time.

"Brooke!!" Joel called her name again, this time with more urgency in his voice. Brooke sighed as she got up and went over to the kitchen to help her dad look for the napkins.

Austin still remained seated, he wasn't expected to do anything after all he was still in seventh grade, and no responsibility had befallen him yet. "Austin where's your shirt?" His mother questioned as she saw her shirtless son.

Austin immediately panicked and rushed to his room, if there was one thing he understood in his short life, it was that his mom could blow a fuse very easily. Olivia could only sigh as she saw her kid run upstairs, 'That Boy' she thought to herself.

"Hey Mom, Dad needs to know if he should bring out any drinks?" Brooklyn asked her mom. "Joe he's a child, god dammit" Olivia quickly went to the kitchen, she could practically feel her blood pressure rise.

Brooklyn went back to scrolling on the couch, she got back into a comfortable spot when she heard *Ding*. It was the sound of the doorbell. She sighed, her annoyance was written all over her face. "WAIT!!" Her mother yelled to stop her.

"They're here early, Joe they're here" Olivia called her husband, "AUSTIN!!" She yelled for her son as well. She wanted them to look like a proper family when they greeted Marvin and Jessica.

She gathered everyone together in front of the door and opened it, but the person on the other side wasn't who she was expecting. "Jolie!? What are you doing here?" Olivia was surprised to see her friend instead of Jessica and Marvin.

"Woah, a welcoming party for me" Jolie laughed as she saw the Kepplers lined up in front of her, "It's not for you," Olivia said as she welcomed Jolie in. The excitement that was in the air died down very quickly as everyone returned to what they were doing.

"Aww that sucks, well I am here to meet that kid you're bringing in," Jolie said as she took a seat at the dinner table Joel had set up, "No..No..No" Olivia quickly rejected Jolie staying to welcome Jessica and Marvin.

"Yes Liv, I need to meet the kid, I'm gonna meet him eventually anyway" Jolie reasoned with Olivia, "Yeah eventually, right now he doesn't know any of us and we told them it's just our family today" Olivia was still against the idea, she didn't wanna overwhelm, Marvin on their first meeting.

"We are basically sisters and I'll say I've been a pretty good aunt to those guys," Jolie said, she was firm on her stance in staying and Oliva caved in, she still had other things to do and it was true, Jolie had been a main part of her family.

As the two ladies were talking, the doorbell rang again. Once again suspense grew in the air, everyone was silent as Olivia directed them to where they should stand. She stood next to her husband with Austin to the left of him, and Brooklyn to the right of her. Jolie stood to the right of Brooklyn.

"Alright, ready?" Olivia quietly asked, everyone nodded yes, Joel had a smile look on his face, Brooklyn's annoyance was nowhere to be seen, Austin had excitement written all over his face and Jolie adorned a serious look.

"Alright," Olivia said and she opened the door. "Hey guys, sorry to keep you waiting." She said with a smile as she welcomed Jessica and Marvin in. Everyone said hi to Jessica and Marvin as Joel directed them to the couches in the living room.
