Ch. 27 [Blood Moon] Apprentice

Ch. 27 [Blood Moon] Apprentice

The High Priest took Sol to his room to explain to him about the meeting and about the other chosen ones, and how the decision will affect his research.

*Door closes*

(Sol) - How many chosen ones are here at this church?

(High Priest) - With me a total of 10.

(Sol) - I noticed that 3 were missing.

(High Priest) - Yes, those 3 are considered the most important here and throughout the kingdom, and they do not attend the meetings.

(Sol) - I understand.

(High Priest) - I apologize that I did not properly explain to you what this meeting was about and how they usually work.

(Sol) - I didn't know the apprentices are not allowed to talk.

(High Priest) - The information the apprentices have they share with their master, and only they talk.

*Sigh*

(Sol) - I never met any of them until now.

(High Priest) - They are not particularly keen to walk around the church or talk with outsiders.

(Sol) - I noticed only a few agreed to help on the black magic and cursed tome matter, why?

(High Priest) - I am not on good terms with any of them, especially since I chose to research black magic ever since I became a chosen one.

(Sol) - And yet some agreed, why is that?

(High Priest) - Those events that happened recently created an imbalance in power, as you heard and they want to try and keep it in balance.

(Sol) - What does that mean?

(High Priest) - There are many forces in this realm, as you might know, and they each have a quantity of power that keeps the realm in balance.

*Step*

*Step*

(High Priest) - When one of the powers exceeds it creates an imbalance that we the chosen ones feel.

*Grab*

*Turn the page*

*Point*

(High Priest) - Here are the races and their power quantity.

(Sol) - But how is this quantity measured?

(High Priest) - It is unknown to this day, but I managed to find something that dated way before our ancestors that mentioned an incredible power that was split into many.

(Sol) - And who was holding this incredible power?

(High Priest) - There were no further details, but some drawings that I thought resembled a woman and a child.

*Grab*

(Sol) - Woah!

(High Priest) - Yes, there are many powers out there and each one of them was in balance with one another until the Elemental and your friend.

(Sol) - Do you think it has anything to do with his powers?

If you encounter this narrative on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

(High Priest) - You did mention some of the things he did, and yet no one knows where they come from.

(Sol) - We were working on that, but the cursed tome incident in the capital pushed us away from finding out more about his powers.

(High Priest) - And those cursed tomes, have you found anything about them?

(Sol) - We only know that they contain black magic and there are multiple books out there.

(High Priest) - Is there any way to locate them?

(Sol) - Not that we know about.

Sol did not mention Ryuji's weapon previously and planned to keep Zeka a secret from the Euda.

(High Priest) - About the future of your research, from tomorrow you might meet with other apprentices.

(Sol) - I wanted to mention it before, but I thought is not important.

(High Priest) - What is it?

(Sol) - I kept hearing someone in the hallway in the black magic section, but when I asked who is it, they started running.

(High Priest) - Strangely, the guards did not report any sighting.

(Sol) - It must have been my imagination.

(High Priest) - Let's hope it is not something that got out from one of the books you were reading.

*Sigh*

(Sol) - That would indeed be a problem, especially if it's loose around the church.

(High Priest) - I will investigate this matter later, for now, let's focus on the research for the cursed tomes.

*Step*

*Door closes*

Sol went to his room and started looking over his notes. But it was a puzzle even he could not resolve.

*Wings flapping*

(Sol) - Oh. . .

It was Olaf Owl.

(Sol) - What are you doing here? Did anything happen?

Sol grabbed the letter from Olaf and started reading it. While he was reading the latter he noticed the time they had to meet with the Wanderer. He immediately rushed to the black magic section and grabbed the book talking about the blood moon. And everything started to make sense.

(Sol) - The imbalance in powers, Ryuji's powers, the cursed tome, and now this.

(Sol) - This is bad.

Sol took the book into his room, without anyone knowing, and tried his hardest to find some key details about this blood moon. He managed to find some of the conditions that had to be met for this blood moon to happen. Since it never happened before, or at least nothing was mentioned in other books about such an event.

For the blood moon to take place it had to be a total eclipse for 3 whole days, the rivers to run out of water, to rain with ice, and people to be distrustful.

Sol wrote an additional note for the others and went to sleep. The owl left for its next destination. When Sol woke up it was around noon.

*Knock*

(High Priest) - Is everything fine?

(Sol) - Come in, and close the door.

*Door closes*

(High Priest) - What happened?

Sol started explaining to the High Priest about the book he found and the message he received the previous night.

(Sol) - Everything is starting to piece together.

(High Priest) - Are you sure about it?

(Sol) - I do hope I am wrong, but if this will happen, this kingdom will be doomed.

(High Priest) - I should call up a meeting tonight.

(Sol) - This is a good idea, but first, let's see if we can find anything else.

(High Priest) - The Silver Ash withdrew from helping with the cursed tomes.

*Sigh*

(Sol) - Those are not good news.

(High Priest) - The Seer told one of her youngest apprentices to join you in the black magic search.

(Sol) - I am not sure this will be enough, but it is better than nothing.

(High Priest) - She is in the library right now.

(Sol) - I should get going as well.

*Step*

When Sol arrived in the library he saw a little girl sitting on his chair reading black magic books.

*Cough*

(Sol) - Hello!

*Turn around*

*Fall*

(Sol) - Are you okay?

(Young Girl) - Yes, yes. Sorry!

*Chuckles*

(Sol) - My name is Sol.

(Young Girl) - My name is Anais.

(Sol) - Nice to meet you.

*Whisper*

(Anais) - Sorry about the other days.

(Sol) - So you were the one sneaking around?

(Anais) - Shh!

(Sol) - Why?

(Anais) - The Seer is very strict when it comes to black magic.

(Sol) - And why you didn't ask the High Priest to take you as his apprentice if you wanted to study black magic?

*Sigh*

(Anais) - He refused me.

(Sol) - And let me guess, after yesterday's meeting you insisted on coming here?

(Anais) - Yes! It was the perfect opportunity.

*Sit*

(Anais) - The Seer never intended to help the High Priest, but she wanted to get rid of me in one way or another.

*Laugh*

Sol told Anais about what he found and something that happened before he came to the church. Anais was amazed and happy to hear all those things. She wanted to find out more about those cursed tomes and help Sol in his research. But everything changed when Sol arrived at the part with the blood moon.
