Chapter 60: First Quest
Nathan: “Spy………appraise……..inspect…………scope.”
Anais: “Okay, you have to stop that, your creeping everybody out, me included.”
Nathan: “What’s so creepy about it?”
Anais: “ It’s like your piercing their souls with an all-encompassing gaze.”
Looking around, several groups have made some distance between his party and themselves. Nathan constant staring and mumbling had scared everyone away.
Anais: “You’re not gonna just come across it, just because some creep said you’ll be able to do it. What you should be worried about is how he knew so much about you.
Nathan: “I know that’s a problem, but if there is just a small chance he was right, “Scan”.”
Ash: “What did he even want, to make you hallucinate for an hour?”
Nathan: “He said he wants to talk before I go into “Viridy Wilds”, he wants something from in the dungeon, something he think I can get for him.”
Iris: “Then why not just retrieve it himself?”
Nathan: “Don’t know, we can ask that if we decide to go back. If I can just get this ability to work, “Survey”.”
Anais: “If you even have it.”
Nathan went back to staring and reciting any word he could find the meant examine, but still nothing worked. He was becoming abundantly clear that he didn’t possess the ability. Then what could be the reason Vex did that, I didn’t make sense.
Earl: “Hey Gaunt, look that Lycanian chicks checking you out.”
Gaunt: “Really, I mean, who cares, I’m done with that bitch.”
After being humiliated in the duel, being near Nathan was the last place he wanted to be, but he couldn’t afford the blowback from canceling the quest. Ever since then his right hand man Earl was trying his best to cheer his disheartened friend.
Earl: “You sure, she given you some intense looks. Maybe she was just shy before. She didn’t want all her little friends to notice, but she secretly can’t take her eyes of you.”
Gaunt: “Y-You think so?”
Earl: “I know so, look at her now, maybe you should give her a show.”
Gaunt: “Y-yeah, I mean who can resist this?”
In his quest to uncover the words to activate his ability, his eyes had fallen on to Gaunt.
Nathan: “(What the fuck!?)”
Gaunt had begun to strike poses flexing his muscles and winking in there the direction.
Anais: “What the fuck!?”
Ash: “Ahahahahahahaha, looks like somebody once to give you a show.”
Gaunt continued his show, much to the discomfort of Nathan and his friends.
Anais: “Now look what you did, cut it crap out.”
Nathan: “Fine, I guess for now, I’ll stop trying to “Pry”.”
*shinnnng*
Nathan: “Huh?”

Nathan: “It worked!”
Ash: “Gaunt's posing!?”
Nathan: “What, hells no, how could that be!?”
Gaunt couldn’t hear their entire conversation, but he did hear that last part and fell to his knees.
Nathan: “I’m talking about his stats, I can see them.”
Nathan tried again on several people around, he could see each of their stat screen fine. All of their stats varied by quite a bit, more importantly, they were all incredibly weak. None of their stats match up to most of his team members, Gaunt had the highest around, but even his stats failed in comparison to Nathan’s and the members in his party.
Nathan tried to pry deeper, going pass the first screen. The first screen showed all his basic abilities, but the screen below, showed the bonuses and such that came with their abilities. Like Nathan’s Pollination, it was a tag on ability to Nathan’s Plant Growth.
Adventurer: “Huh, what the!?”
Nathan: “(Damn.)”
Nathan quit using his ability, his target seemed to have notice Nathan and was looking around for the culprit, eyeing everyone suspiciously.
Iris: “Master, are you alright?”
Nathan: “I’m fine, just testing my limit, so Vex wasn’t lying?”
Anais: “So what, you still shouldn’t trust him.”
Iris: “Yes, that man knows entirely too much.”
Anais: “Regardless if he was following us or not, how could he found out something, you didn’t know yet?”
Nathan: “I intend to find out when I go back.”
Iris: “When you go back?”
Nathan: “R-Right, he could have information we were searching for. If he knows about me, then he probably knows about Amelia.”
Iris: “That may be true.”
Anais: “Hmm, if that’s the case I’m coming with you. If he knows anything about Lady Amelia, then I want to ask myself. Don’t go without me, okay?”

Nathan: “No problem, we’ll hid back once I’ve ranked up, this farm is on the same road leading to the Dungeon anyway.”
The three agreed, Vex was an early chance and it would be foolhardy not to probe him for information.
*rumble*rumble*
Anais: “What was that?”
Nathan “Threat Detection” activated, at almost the exact same time the ground began to shake. A moment later, April ran up to the crowd of people.
April: “There coming, don’t let the near my orchard.”
Nathan party positioned themselves, some of the other adventurer looked nervous. Nathan thought the devils must be terrifying or it could be just the rumbling coming from underground. As the rumble got louder, the hole erupted and out poured the Bun-Bun Devils.
Nathan: “No………way?”
Nathan rubbed his eyes over and over, he couldn’t believe what he was seeing. A huge swarm of bunny like creatures emerge from the hole. They weren’t scary in the least, in fact they were incredibly cute. With there big sparkling eyes, they were as menacing as a plushie, mostly because they look like plushies. The devil tails, the fangs and the tiny pitch fork, just added to the cuteness. The only real thing was that there were a lot of them, hundreds, Nathan thought of the saying from his world, about bunnies multiplying, but this was ridiculous.
Nathan: “Pry.”
Bun-Bun Devils
Lvl: 2 Class D
Sth 1
Def 1
Ability: Poke-Poke
[Though weak by themselves, they’re numbers will increase exponentially if left unchecked.]
Ash: “Get ready.”
Several of the Devils came towards, readying their pitch forks.
Bun-Bun Devils: “Chekeh”
Nathan watch on as the creature attack his feet, desperately trying to cause him harm. Each strike took one damage, some of the attacks just didn’t hurt or missed completely. Nathan contemplated what to do, he didn’t think he had the strength to strike these things down. It felt like he was going to kick a puppy or slap a baby, those were just things you don’t do.
Ash: “I’ll handle this.”
Nathan: “Wait Ash I-”
Before Nathan could get another word in, Ash took off. Brandishing his dual blades, instantly, he cut down several of the devils.”
*Keeeeeeeeeeeh*
Nathan watch in horror as the light from the sparkling eyes faded as they’re lives ended.
Ash: “How was that?”
Anais: “That’s Nothing, watch this. “Flare Royale!”
Nathan: “Anais wa-”
A fireball erupted from Anais hand, crashing into another group of devils. The agonizingly cute sound, now something demonic, as the bunnies scream in agony as they were burned alive.
Ena: “Haaaaaaah!”
Ena had begun to smash her fist into every one that had approached her.
Ena: “Hahahahah, this is fun.”
Ena and Anais, with girlish delight, mercilessly eradicated the poor creatures.
Soon, the entire battle field was filled with the sounds of the dying Bun- Bun Devils. Rather it was young or old, they were wiped out one after another. Nathan was horrified, how could they all so easily snuff out the life of such a creature?”
Nathan: “Master, lookout.”
Iris put more urgency into her warning, then Nathan thought was necessary. Several of the devils had approached now, with weapon in hand and began to stab at Nathan’s legs, a pricking sound from every attack. Nathan checked his health, the sun hadn’t completely gone down, so his “Photosynthesis” was in fool force. No matter how many times they stabbed, Nathan health would instantly refill. Not to mention the armor he was currently equipped with, they were absolutely no threat at all. Nathan simply shook them off his legs, seeing no real reason to be excessively violent, like everyone around him
Nathan: “Huh?”
Nathan reflexes activated, and he involuntarily reach out and grabbed at something. When he turned to look at what he caught, he found a particularly small Bun-Bun Devil.
Its expression in complete shock, after failing its sneak attack and being caught in the process. Its eyes began to water, as it tried to wrestle itself from Nathan’s grasp, poking him with the tiny fork.
*Snap*
Bun-Bun Devil: “Chekeh!?”
Suddenly the pitch fork snap in half and fell to the ground. The shocked on it face, followed the waterfall of tears on its face, as it turned to stare at Nathan accusingly.
Nathan: “(Don’t look at me like that, I didn’t break it.)”
Iris: “Master, why are you letting them attack you?”
A few adventurers had taken notice of the situation and was staring in horror, as the devils continued to poke at Nathan’s body.
Adventurer: “What the hell is wrong with her, why is she letting that happen!?”
Ash: “What are you doing, defend yourself.”
Anais: “Don’t stand there like an idiot, fight back.”
Nathan looked at Iris, over to Anais, towards the group of adventurers and then back to the Devil, crying its eyes out over the lost of it precious pitch fork.
Bun-Bun Devil: “Chekeh!”
Nathan: “I’m sorry, but I can’t do this.”

Gaunt: “Ahahahahahahahaha, you should have seen her, scared stiff.”
Back at the adventurer’s guild, a group of adventurers were all laughing after hearing what happen. The story went, that the Lycanian was so frightened, she stood idly by whilst she was attacked. It was up to his party to save her, from the weak Bun-Bun Devils. The truth of the matter was Nathan didn’t want to slash something that looked like a plushie giving life. He thought it was strange that everyone here could so easily,
Anais: “I don’t get it, you’ve fought plant creatures, giant insects, a freaking giant eye, you even ran through a forest of colossus and actually wanted to stop to admire them. All that and you can’t beat a creature that doesn’t even come up to your knee.”
Nathan: “I……………. have no excuse.”
Ash: “No need, it’s not unheard of for people to freeze up on their first quests. We more then killed enough for you, don’t sweat it. But I gotta say, it didn’t help your reputation. Gaunt’s been busy spreading your freeze around the entire guild, it’s only been a few hours, but almost everybody knows.”
Nathan: “Well whatever, I don’t really care.”
Ash: “Good, keep thinking that way, you’ll need it.”
Ash put his across Nathan’s shoulders and whispered in his ear.
Ash: “But, to think you had such a sensitive side.”
Nathan: “What!?”
Ash smirked at Nathan, he had figured out why he froze.
Ash: “Don’t worry, you’re not the first to freeze for that reason. A knew another guy who couldn’t bring him to cut them down either.”
Nathan: “Your not gonna, say anything?”
Ash: “I’m insulted that you think I would.”
Ash showed Nathan a small bag of coins.
Ash: “I got my share of the reward, I’m heading out, I’ll see you tomorrow. Later.”
Nathan: “Yeah.”
Ash waved, as he disappeared out the door. Nathan walked over to Ena and Anais, as they collected their share of the reward.
Anais: “We’re gonna go get something to eat, will meet you back at Ramol’s afterward.”
Nathan: “Alright, I get the reward and accept a few more quests. This is the last night before the Dungeon opens and there still a bit of daylight left.
Anais: “You sure, after what happened today?”
Nathan: “As long as I avoid quests that deal with Bun-Bun Devils.”
Ena: “Avoid, are you afraid of them?”
Nathan: “…………………Not in the traditional way.”
None of the girls understood, but Nathan refuse to elaborate. Anais and Ena parted, leaving Iris and Nathan alone. Nathan looked around as they approached the reception desk, a lot of the faces that once looked nervous, were now smirking and laughing. What ash said was right, news had spread and taking effect rather quickly. Iris stared at them with cold eyes.
Iris: “End them?”
Nathan: “No.”
Iris: “Tch!”
Nathan waited in the line for his turn, which came soon enough.
Belle: “Welcome back, I have your reward waiting.”
Nathan looked up to find Belle, looking him over. As she squatted down, her cleavage was level with his line of sight.
Nathan: “Belle?”
Belle: “Ah, I’m sorry, I heard what happened, I wanted to make sure you were okay?”
Nathan: “Yeah I’m fine. Just some first-time jitters.”
Belle: “Ah, I see, those things happen to even you.”
Nathan: “But anyway, thanks for worrying about me.”
Belle: “Oh not at all.”
Nathan: “So I’m guessing it wasn’t enough to rank up, huh?”
Belle shook her head.
Belle: “I’m afraid not, sorry.”
Nathan: “It’s fine, I’ll just have to forget going in the first day. I’m going to grab a few more quests and then head out okay.”
Belle: “Yes, Good luck.”
Nathan placed the coin bag in his pocket and waved goodbye to Belle, before heading into the next room. There wasn’t as many people in the room as there was earlier.
Nathan: “Iris.”
Iris: “Right, hmm let’s see, this one, this one, this one and this one.”
Nathan: “Only four?”
Iris: “No, but the rest are collecting quests, if I recall earlier, you weren’t fond of those types.”
Nathan: “I can’t afford to be picky right now, let’s take as many as I can.”
Iris: “Understood.”
Nathan slid his card into each of the slots Iris indicated. Nathan signed up the entire party, rather they went with him or not didn’t matter. It would better if they all rank up at the same time, then to do so individually. Done with his choices, he looked for a few that could be done immediately, then he would call it a night and get a fresh start in the morning. Paying little mind to the people still laughing at him and holding down Iris, so she wouldn’t hurt anyone, Nathan waved to Belle as he left the guild disappearing down the city streets.
