Chapter 53: Common Sense 101

Chapter 53: Common Sense 101

The following was a bombardment of questions, both for him and Iris, who had shown herself. Nathan just started from the beginning, his experiences and what he be doing now on.

Nathan: “I keep getting into trouble, because I don’t know what goes for common sense, in this world.

Nathan turned to Anais and Iris.

Nathan: “And Iris and Anais are no help.”

Nathan sucked his teeth at Anais and Iris, veins popping on their foreheads as he did it.

Iris&Anais: “HEY!”

Iris: “Master, that is not fair.”

Anais: “Yeah, it’s not like we were locked up for thousands of years, oh wait yes we were.”

Iris and Anais swarm Nathan, who told them he was just joking amd laughed at their reactions.

Ash: “……………….”

Nathan: “Ash, you okay?”

Ash: “Sorry, it’s just………. you’re the Hero of Legend, the one who Defeated the Demon Lord and I’m in his party.”

Nathan: “Really?”

Sweat ran down Nathan face as Ash seem to slip from reality once more. Ramol and Ena weren’t any better, Ramol kept to bowing his head to Nathan after every word. And Ena, refuse to get close, hiding behind a desk and ducking behind every time Nathan looked in her direction.

Anais: “Nathan, maybe you should, you know.”

Nathan: “Right.”

Nathan raised his hand into the air.

Nathan: “Tranquil.”

White light wrapped itself around the three and returned them to a calm state mind.”

Nathan: “Okay, everyone calmed?”

Ramol: “Sorry, its just so shocking, the Hero, in my shop and he’s a Therian, well half Therian, I still don’t get that.”

Nathan: “I was human and woke up as Therian, I don’t know how it happened”

Ash: “Yeah, that’s not what he means, but let’s not go into that topic. Let’s just focus on the fact that you’re the Hero. Look at your stats their crazy.

Nathan: “They’re really that good.”

Ash: “Yes, you have two Legacy’s, I never heard of such a thing. Your stats are comparable to someone’s level in their early fifties and your only level twenty-three.

Ramol: “Not to mention all five of you have a Legacy.”

Anais: “Five?”

Ramol: “Yes, you, Anais, Miss Iris, Miss Ena and Miss Celes.”

Anais: “(Why didn’t he call me miss?)”

Nathan: “Ena, you have a Legacy?”

Nathan brought of his stats screen and looked through hs new party Members.

Nathan: “Holy crap Ena, you’re crazy strong.”

Ena puff out a sizable chest, with pride.

Ena: “Of course, the Ogre’s are known for they’re strength.”

Ena flex her arms, though they didn’t show any muscle mass matching her stats. A shiver ran down his spine, not to long ago, that strength was aimed at him. He would have been smashed if she had connected.

Ash: “You see the difference, it’s crazy, with these stats, no one would doubt you’re the Hero, well except being a Therian.”

Nathan: “So will it be hard to blend in?”

Ash: “Well, nothing except your high-level healing abilities, as long as you pick in choose where you use them you should be fine.”

Nathan: “Are they really that powerful?”

Ramol: “Truly, you have the three strongest healing abilities, not only that you have one for each type, physical wound, status changers, and mental affliction. Even the churches bishops, don’t have such extreme abilities. More importantly, you can cast them on multiple people at once, rather there in your party or not.”

Nathan: “I see, what about my ability to control plants, won’t that be a problem?”

Ash: “I’m not sure.”

Ramol: “Could you show it to us?”

Nathan nodded his head and left, grabbing a handful of soil from outside, he returned. The usual routine of closing his hand and reopening it, producing a small ball of light. Placing into the soil, to everyone’s amazement, a flower sprouted up in his hand, in seconds.”

Ramol: “Amazing.”

Ash: “……………………….So, you can grow any plant you want?”

Nathan: “No, I have to ingest the plants seed or the plant itself, there’s also a time limit, before I can utilize it the first time. However once that’s over, I can recreate it indefinitely.”

Ash: “Aw, well damn.”

Nathan: “So, what do you think?”

Ramol: “No, it should be fine, it’s basically an Element Zero. They aren’t that uncommon, I’m sure everyone else will think the same. Do you have to create the seed every time you use it?”

Nathan: “Yes or I can control the plants and the immediate area, but I don’t have complete grasp over my powers yet.”

Ash: “Then its fine, as long as they see the seeds being made, it will fall into the category of preparation. Even if you have to make a show of it, make sure someone’s sees you do it.”

Nathan: “Alright, anything else.”

Ash: “Well obviously, Miss Iris has to stay invisible. A fairy showing up, will cause an up roar about the same as you revealing yourself to be the Hero. Anais, do you have anything special about you, besides your Legacy?”

Anais: “I don’t think so.”

Nathan: “She’s a klutz, is that common?”

Anais: “Hey!”

Anais jumped at Nathan, who laughed while catching her.

Ash: “Than everything should be good, basically what we told you just then, for everything else, you can just play the country bumpkin.”

Nathan: “Thank you guys so much, actually there one more thing. I need to know about money, I don’t really know anything about it, so I’ve been spending it unknowingly.”

Ramol: “Leave that to me.”

Anais: “I want to hear too, money is always interesting.”

*Poof*

Anais transformed and ran up onto Nathans shoulder.

Nathan: “Uh………Anais?”

Anais: “What?”

Anais turned to see everyone staring at her.

Anais: “What the hell’s wrong with them?”

Ramol: “Sh-Sh-She turned into a mouse!?”

Nathan: “Well, she is a mouse.”

Ramol: “What!?”

Ash: “And you can understand her, when she’s like that?”

Nathan: “……………..Not common sense?”

Ramol&Ash: “Not common sense.”

After a more thorough explanation of the events up until now, they were able to get back to the topic of profit. First, he explained the worth of each coin

Bronze Coin = 1 USD

Silver Coin = 10 USD

Large Silver Coin 100 USD

Gold Coin = 1,000 USD

White Gold Coin = 10,000 USD

Jade Coin = 100,000 USD

Nathan: “Hey aren’t there weapons and accessories made from these metals, what’s stopping them from being counterfeited?”

Ramol: “Ah well, I don’t really know, but I’ve never heard of anyone successfully counterfeiting currency.”

Ash: “To be honest no one even knows where they come from, it’s just one of those things everyone takes as the norm.”

Nathan wasn’t satisfied with their answer, but if they didn’t know, it wasn’t something he needed to know. Next, he explained rules while traveling. When entering major cities or crossing borders, there is usually a five-silver tax, for each person. Though, if you’re a member of the Adventurers guild the that tax is annulled. Adventurers take request that could lead them anywhere, so they get free admission when traveling. Nathan thought, that why Jacob was waiting for them to arrive before entering, he used the silver he was given to get them into the city.

Unfortunately, Merchant guild members do have to pay a tax on any goods there bringing into a country.

Nathan: “You have to pay for your goods, not yourself?”

Ramol: “Let’s put it this way, I’m not a part of your country and I come to your city, sell wares that are already available. However, I sell them for cheaper and than leave wants I made my profit. What do you think the people will do?

Nathan: “Ah, the country doesn’t make a profit.”

Ramol: “Yup, long ago, merchants would ride into major cities by day and by night, leave after making a profit. The government issued a tax on any thing coming into the city. Most merchants stay in one city their entire life and would only journey out, after they were sure they can afford it.”

Ash: “Ramol, you’re going off topic.”

Ramol: “I know, just want him to understand a little, with our contract, this will come in handy later.”

Nathan: “Uhm, no I don’t think this is going to apply to me.”

Ramol: “What?”

Nathan: “With my inventory, I could have infinite amout of anything and get in and out without detection.”

Ramol: “………………AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!?”

Ramol sudden outburst made everyone jump back. He just realize just how great of an opportunity he has here. With the inventory he could get anything into the city, without paying a single dime.

Ramol: “…….Salt and copper.”

Nathan: “Salt and copper?”

Ash: “The Nobles and the Church, buy them in bulk, but both are hard to come by. If you come across some, while adventuring, you could become rich overnight.”

Ramol: “If you ever come across either of these on your travels, bring it to me.”

Sweat ran down everyone’s face as Ramol had this crazed look in his eye. Staring at Nathan, as if he had just won the lottery.

Nathan: “O-Oh, I’ll remember that.

Ramol continued explaining things to Nathan, a long conversation, that took well over an hour to complete. By the end Nathan was sure he had learned enough, the do’s and don’ts were finely edged into his skull.

Ash left, stating he had business during the conversation and Anais took a nap in Nathan hood. When all was said in done, Nathan decided to help Kyr with cleaning. While he tidied up, Nathan happen to glance out the back window.

Kyr: “Thank again for the help.”

Nathan: “No problem, hey did you sell produce?”

Kyr: “We did long ago, but not recently, why do you ask?”

Nathan: “Oh I notice, out your back window, looks like someone tried farming.”

Kyr came back inside and Iris took his place, Ramol and he were the ones who ran the shop and knew the ins and outs of the business. Kyr was an energetic little boy, featuring the same round ears and black stripe brown tail as Ramol.

According to his brother, he too was a licensed merchant, the age restriction was eleven, but it seems Kyr is a lot older than his appearance lets on. Looking around the empty store, it was big, it seemed as though sold more than just weapons and armor at one point in time.

Nathan: “Did it not go well?”

Kyr: “Uh no, it’s just that, neither us are good with farm work, it was always their job.”

Nathan: “What?”

Kyr: “……..Sorry my brother doesn’t like me to talk about it.”

Nathan: “Oh, okay?”

Kyr gave up the question rather quickly, but Nathan could tell that was a lie, but something in Kyr’s voice, told Nathan that it was a difficult topic.

Nathan: “Where is Ramol anyway?”

Kyr: “He’s out finalizing the contract, once it’s done, our contract will be official”

Nathan: “If I can supply you with produce, can you sell it?”

Kyr: “Yes, but we’ll need a steady supply of merchandise, will you be able to do that?”

Nathan: “Probably not, I don’t plan on staying here forever, I can come back, but your right, you will need a steady flow of merchandise.”

Kyr: “When, its comes to produce, it all depends on how fresh it is, every day you have to resupply your stock or risk losing stock.”

Nathan: “Well, how about I give you a massive stock and then you sell it as need be, if it’s about storage then-”

Ramol: “I’m back.”

Kyr: “Welcome back, brother.”

Nathan: “Is everything ready?”

Ramol: “Yes, I notified the guild and we’re good to go, Kyr could you grab the bags I left out front?”

Kyr nodded and went on his way, happily on his way.

Ramol: “Is everything alright?”

Nathan: “Hmm?”

Ramol: “Sorry, you had this expression.”

Nathan: “Oh well, your brother said I shouldn’t bring it up.”

Ramol: “Shouldn’t bring it up?”

Nathan: “The farm outback.”

Ramol: “Ah, I see, sorry he has trouble getting over it, he uses me as a way to avoid talking about it.”

Nathan: “You don’t have to.”

Ramol: "Its fine, see we use to be an all-around shop, back when it was the four of us.”

Nathan: “Parents?”

Ramol: “Two sisters, Mia and Kyra. A long time ago, each of us siblings took care of a certain aspect of the shop, each having our own area of expertise.

However, Kyra became ill and only a rare herb could produce the medicine needed to cure her. The two them had to go away for a while, they were supposed to be gone no more than a month, but that was seven years ago. It’s been so long, Kyr just assumed the worst.”

Nathan: “You tried looking for them?”

Ramol: “No chance of that, not long after they left all travel to that area was prohibited.” Even if I wanted to, no one would take me.”

Nathan: “So they could still be alive?”

Ramol: “I like to think that, but he’s given up a long time ago.”

Ramol was smiling, but it was a sad smile.

Nathan: “Sorry, I probably shouldn’t have brought it up.”

Ramol: “Oh, it okay, it’s actually nice to talk to someone about it. I just wish he wouldn’t give up.

Nathan was staring to understand, why this store was so big, they must have been a pretty good place to shop long ago, but now it was a shadow of what wants was.

Ramol: “Anyway, neither of us are good with farming, I mean we tried and failed spectacularly. Every once and a while Kyr would go clean it up, but it’s just empty space now.

Nathan: “…………………………….Not for long, we’re gonna fix that, but first let me give you this.”

Nathan reached out and handed Ramol a gem.”

Ramol: “What can this be?”

Nathan: “A Spatial Rend Gem.”

Ramol: “………………………WHAAAAAAT!?”

Nathan: “That was the loudest reaction so far."

Ramol held to the gem and his hand, it wouldn’t shatter or anything if he dropped it, but he still held on for dear life. Nathan loved his reactions, they were so funny.

Ramol: “YOU GIVEN ME SUCH A TREASURE!?”

Nathan: “Well, you said you needed somewhere secure to place the merchandise, now you do.”

Ramol: “But this Gem, it worth so much money.”

Nathan: “Oh don’t worry I have a bag full of them, not that I had any plans to sell them.”

Ramol: “BAG FULL!?”

Nathan: “Yup, here this is what I have.”

Nathan waved his hand and on the floor appeared several different types of weapons and armor, some accessories only known in legends and some vials of different colored liquids. Ramol nearly fainted, never in his life did he think he would see such a stock pile of legendary items. Kyr returned and screamed, when he entered the room, the same expression Ramol had, making Nathan laugh again.

Kyr: “Brother, these bottles, these are health potions, and these are Spiryts and the clear one, isn’t that the Panacea?”

Ramol: “How, how, how!?”

Nathan shrugged his shoulders.

Nathan: “Well, they were all gifts for me, so I took what I pleased, um, are you two gonna be okay?”

Ramol: “Please, put those away, if you keep pulling out such things, my heart cannot take it.”

Nathan: “Okay?”

Nathan placed the vials back in his inventory, he had plenty for himself, but it seemed they were just too much for them. Nathan decided to withhold the elven weaponry, since he outright stole all of it.

Ramol placed the Spatial Rend Gem to his chest, watching it slowly sank into his crest. With it ready he placed his hand over the weaponry, one by one they disappeared from the floor.

Ramol: “Hehehehe, Amazing, simply amazing.”

Nathan: “With that you should have no trouble keeping everything safe. And one more thing, I know what we could sell, I surprised I didn’t think of it first.

Nathan pointed out the back window

Ramol: “Outback?”

Nathan: “Farming, I can make this garden grow.”
