5 hours of sleep, I have done more with less before. Collage, back in my 20's I often got only 4 hours sleep a night, between work and school. Granted on weekends I slept about 12 hours a day making up for missed sleep. I sigh as I jog from that town. At least this time I got coin, know what it is worth locally and got some food items from the Inn, still not really set up for long distance travel and I know that those people will probably put a price on my head for killing off their thugs as I escaped from being turned in to a slave. Don't know if this world has some kind of far speak magics or not though.
It's about 3 hours later, I am just walking down this well maintained road when a man on horseback comes up behind me at a fast pace. He see's me (I am hard to miss dressed as I am an all) and decides to try and run me down.
I don't really know what happened. I saw the horse, threw up my arms and the Shield popped up around me. I don't think I cast the spell for it or anything, but there it is, shimmering around me. The horse hit it at speed and well, the horse was alright, the rider not so much as the horse landed on him when he collided with my shields.
I scurry over to the horse and ask, "Are you ok ?"
The horse slowly stands, then looks at his ex rider and sighs, "well that is not good, wonder if I should fake an injury."
I look at the horse, "Why would you fake an injury ?"
That is when the horse realizes I was talking to Him and not the moron who had been riding him. His eyes get huge, "You can understand Me ?"
"Form of telepathy really, I hear your surface thoughts. Though do to my own limitations I still have to speak aloud for you to hear me." I explain to the stunned stallion.
He slowly nods, "Kind of like how a druid does it then. They are scary strange people, druids I mean. Ah, my rider, I think he is dead. Given he wanted you dead, for some kind of reward, I doubt you will be to upset."
"REWARD ?" I shout in surprise, I really thought I would have longer before they got it out. Which is the source of my surprise really. The over reacting I think is just adrenallyn.
The horse nods. "Check his shoulder bag, has all the papers and such he was taking to Cobberston, that is the next town up this road."
I carefully move over to the man, only to see blue lights, like digitized lightning play over him and he is gone.
Horse, "Oh well to late, he is dead."
I look at the spot, "Is that normal ?"
The horse nods, "For the human sorts, yeah if they die of anything but natural causes they have a chance of just Glow and Poof. No more man. The rest of us, nope. Don't know why the Gods do it that way." I stare at the spot, "This world is wierd." I state, "Where I come from you die, your body just lays there till someone comes and gets it to bury it."
"That happens to, but like I said before, some just Glow and Poof." he gives me a long stare, "Your going to want to ride me now aren't you ?"
"Want to yes, can no. My knee is in bad shape and I can't pull myself up on to your saddle. Which does not look like a good design from what I can see of it."
The horse nods, "Oh I so agree. Not much padding and they seem to be made for speed. Which translates as it did not take them long to make it. Does not make it anymore comfortable for the horse or the rider."
I nod, "The purpose of a proper saddle, to my understanding, is to displace the weight of a rider over a wider place on a horse and reduce the strain on the horses back, as opposed to riding with out a saddle."
The horse nods, "This saddle is a fail on both counts."
Looking at the set up, "So what is in the bags on your saddle ?"
"No idea. I think mostly his clothing and such. You can look."
I do so, the bag on the right is a simple design, definitely built on the cheap but in one I find some food, apples and some stuff I guess is more for the horse, "Apples, small ones. Um, some beat up looking pears, and looks like some kind of grass ?"
He twist around and looks, "Hay, that bag was supposed to carry my lunch but he dumped it out and put those nasty apples in it. I don't undertand why he liked them things. Now the pears, those I like."
"Never been a fan of pears myself, as for the apples, yeah these are not ones you want to eat raw. More of a cooking apple I think."
I go around and check the other bag. This one is better made and broken in to sections. Letters, missives which are different from letters as they are not sealed, and the affore mentioned wanted poster. Price of 500 silver crowns for arson and murder. Pretty good description of me to. Tall, over wieght, with a bad limp on the right side. Dressed in red tabard and black leggings of a strange design. So the reward is half a gold crown. Does not sound like much to me, but I suppose it depends on how much a common worker gets around here.
Still, I got this bunch before anyone else in this direction, so I slowed down the spread of information on ME at least. Also tells me they are not using magic to communicate.
I pull out all the wanted information about me, then do a search of the letters and missives, to see if any thing else is about me or such. Find a badly coded letter to someone in Thrushtown, ok name I suppose, about the latest shipment of slaves from Kreelyn Hollow - as it's signed with the same sigil as Sir Reginald put on my papers I take it is from him. I note this missive has me listed as needing 'special training' and wanting me broke to obey but still able to use magic. Lovely.
Well they are not getting these messages. "So Lady Luck, Given I found these, then I take it your still with me. Yes I know, I don't pray right, never really saw the point to a lot of it. Tend more toward conversation style..." I look around, no spirits of a 'clerk' or higher order around, so I guess I am talking to myself, or the horse maybe. He is giving me a long stare.
"What, never heard a person who is bad at praying before ?" he snorts a whiney like laugh, "Never heard anyone try to hold a conversation with Luck before. Though yours is strange I will give you that much."
I sigh, "Well I thank you for the warning about the missives and such."
He stares, "Your not going to try to ride me are you ?"
I shake my head, "My bad knee won't let me even mount you. Stairs are hard enough, actually trying to climb in to a saddle would be really bad. Besides I have only ridden a horse twice in my whole life, and both those times I was very young and someone else was leading the horse."
His head drops forward, "oh my. Well I can't say I am sorry about it. Given your a big person and all. Just surprised your not going to try. Most your kind, even the ones who can talk to animals, think nothing of using everyone else for something."
I shrug, "I came very close to becoming a slave this morning, so I think I am more in mind of not treating you like that right now."
He leans down and looks me in the eye, "you are strange"
I grin, "I thought that was a given by now."
He nods, "ok well more strange than originally thought."
"Thank you. I actually work at it. Being Wierd makes for an interesting defense against the world." I state with a slight grin.
He seems to be considering it.
While he is quite I try to decide what to do with these papers. I sigh and close my eyes, trying to picture both my 'spell book' which are the spells I got memorized. Then what I got in my bag.
The Bag one gives me a start. In my minds eye I see what looks much like an old video game storage chart and the words in the top right corner 'Garage Bag'. Now I have seen that term before. On an Anime about a programmer who got sucked in to a video game based loosely on one he was working on. That bag had no upward limit on how much stuff it could hold. Seemed to work by a combination of will and focus. Everything that went in to it basically became Data, like a matter - energy converter or something. I can see, from that description why it would have a near infinite storage limit. Course the limit there is how much data it can hold ... hm. Have to think on that. But for now I consider it, then look at all these pieces of mail. Can't hurt to try. So I try and will the papers in to the 'Garage Bag' that same blue white digital glow surrounds them and I Feel they are now in that bag. I close one eye and picture it. I can see a listing for them, seperated by type. Missives, wanted posters, letters, Cursed Scroll. I pause and then, with out taking it out, try to open it in the bag. A window opens to one side. It list the scroll, the nature of the curse and how the curse is used as well as activated. Someone reads it with out a special token, they get a tracking spell placed on them. Nasty. I note that it was made by Fernjan, which is listed in the description. Interesting that, as it's not signed anywhere I can see.
The other thing I notice is there are already things In the bag. I spend a minute looking it over. Mostly I note its bodies, and their gear. Or more precisely, dead guards, the body of Fernjan, that messenger and all their stuff. I kind of play with that for a few minutes, I find I can remove all the gear and place it in seperate spaces with out first removing it from my bag. I think that digitizing is my bag pulling stuff in automatically. From what the horse said, I think other people likely have something like this, so when people die in their presence, they are vacuumed up in to the storage spaces. Curious. Hm, I note pieces of the inn, some furniture and other items in there to. So not just people but any items that were salvagable in the area of effect, which seems to be inside the radius of my Plasma Ball spell.
I sigh, "Well I know what happened to your rider now. Somehow he ended up in my storage space."
Long stare from the horse, "What ?"
"Magical Storage space, called a Garage Bag, Or I call it a Garbage bag more often than not as it has a tendancy to pick up random things. For example I got several broken tables and a burnt door in here. No idea how they even get in there either. Mind you it's a handy device to have but as magical bags go, it has some strange quirks like grabbing up things at random, such as the messenger."
The horse looks at me like I may be going mad before his eyes. I grin, "Not believing me ?"
"Noooo why would I not believe in something so insane."
I close my left eye again, focus on the side of the road and extract the body, still in his clothes, but minus anything else he was carrying. He slowly fades in to view, the digitizing glow all about him till, poof one messenger corpse. Right there in the ditch.
The horses eyes are bugging out of his head, "oh so your not crazy."
I nod, "Only had the bag a couple of days now. I found it and thought it was empty, but for some reason when I focus on it I can see what is in it in my head. But it still looks empty when I look at the physical side of it."
I pull out the fancy blue bag in my thermal bag and show it to him. He agree's it is strange looking and should not be able to do that. He is edging away from me to I note.
"Your afraid I am going to stuff you in the bag ?"
He nods, "Yes."
"Why would I do that ? That makes no sense at all. Besides I think you need to be dead to be put in the bag." I theorize, though he does make me wonder now if I could do that.
I ponder that then look around. I don't want to damage the horse, so I am looking for a different target now. Spotting a beetle on a tree, I focus on it and try to pull it in to the bag. But niether the beetle nor the tree budge. I see a kind of slanted red line in a circle over it in my minds eye. So no living things I take it. Or no bugs ... except I got 'roasted insects' in my inventory.
Thinking on that, I remove them from the inventory, at my max distance from me. A pile of assorted burned bugs appears about 10ft from me.
I turn to the horse, only to see he has taken off down the road while I was distracted. As he is just walking, I fairly easily catch up, "Well learned a few things. One can't put anything living in the bag. Two apparently dead bugs are listed as 'food items' in the bag." I make a 'Yetch' face. The horse looks at me then chuckles in his whiney tone and nods, "So don't like bugs in my food either." he states.
After a bit we just stop talking, I tried reading a bit while I walk, but found I tend to walk in semingly random ways, like in to the horse or off the road a couple of times. Mostly as the road curved and I didn't. I was studing the book on cantrips and beginner spell casting. Working out why higher level spells tire me out so. Learned some good spells though, like Shrink and Lighten. Used Lighten to make Me lighter, made walking so much easier as I went from 290 pounds to 29 pounds for about an hour. Lighten just made anything weigh 1/10th as much as it did before. Handy spell and only a mid level cantrip.
To my way of thinking there are 3 levels of cantrips. Simple, intermediate and advanced. Simple are like my shock cantrip 'zzzt', Lighten is a bit more complicated as you have to put in a target and amount of wieght to be affected, up to 1/10th or 90% - I used 90%. It last an hour, which is nice to. Next up are things like Shrink or Unerring Missile (aka Magic Missile). The next group are the 1st level spells, those take more energy and I find I can only do so many right now and not turn in to a mental vegitable. Mental exhaustion is no joke and tends to lead to poor descion making. Where as Cantrips take no real energy to use. At least not enough for me to notice as I think I replenish the 'mana' at a higher rate than I can use it on those sorts of spells. On a break, he had the pears I some of the stew from my Garage Bag (so still warm).
A few people went by, most going in the other direction. None stopped to talk or even offer a greeting. But then I was reading my books more than watching the road. The horse was grazing. For such a well maintained road though I normally would expect more traffic, but other than some farmer or wood cutter looking folk I have not seen much of anyone on it. Horse does not know either, but he is new around here I learn. He is actually trained as a war horse, till something happened to his last master and he ended up in the community paddoks. I put forth, if it happened back in that last town, his master may have ended up in chains and sold off as a slave. He agreed with that idea. Not that he minds really. He gets better care at the paddoks than with his old master. Better food and lots less danger. Does not have to lug around a smelly man wearing all that heavy armor. He admits it may have been different if the man treated him better, got him his own barding or the like. But no, he was cheap.
The horse comes over to help me get up once the rest break is done. Mainly I grab a stirrup and pull myself to my feet.
As I am gathering up my stuff I see a peddler type merchant come up the road. He has an old horse, and a cart, seeing me standing by my healthy horse he heads over to me. I Hear him cast a charm spell on himself, to make him feel more honest and like he has my best interest at heart.
I sigh and cast a counter spell, to repel his 'charm'. As it is I don't Feel his spell, but Horse looks confused.
"Good day sir, care to trade ?" he says, all smiles. Feels like a low end used car salesman to me. Not a trustworthy sort in the least.
"Depends on what you have sir." I counter.
He looks my companion over, "Well how about I give you this fine magic lamp." I take it, run an identfy charm over it. Comes back an Eversmoking bottle. Something made to send puffs or streams of smoke in to the air, endlessly. An effect item really.
"You can summon a minor Djinni from that lamp." he states, not realizing my muttered comment was the set up for the identify spell.
I give him a hard stare, he see's that, "Ah they can only serve a person for a set time. My time is up with him so all he does now is blow smoke at me."
"What else you got ?" I counter.
His next item is even worse, a 'lamp' that shows a light when you clap. The light is very dim and fading. He says that is because it is daylight.
"What is it you want for these fine goods ?" I ask.
He smiles widely, "Well that horse should cover it."
"Not my horse to sell. Belongs to the messenger service in Cobberton actually." he frowns, not liking the sound of that at all.
I consider, then cast a Detect Magic spell. His cart lights up with weak aura's and some nasty looking cursed magics. He looks shocked.
I grunt, "I am a Mage little man, I already countered your charm spell and I see your just a swindler."
He growls and throws a curse at me. MY shield reflects it right back at him, he ends up on the ground screaming as welts, boils, and sores appear all over his person.
I lean back, think on it, pull out the grimior but find nothing useful there. Well half a spell, but the last 4 pages were chewed up by mice, so it's missing most of the last spells.
Still I work out a spell I just call 'Dispel Curse' it's a varient on Dispel Magic, which is an Advanced Cantrip, but I cross it with a Bless Spell. Calling on Lady Luck to set the evil from the world.
His whole cart, horse and even Him light up as the two sets of magic conflict.
Horse runs for the tree line, even as I cast the spell again, adding in some stuff about Radiant Light and casting out Darkness and False Belief.
After I pick myself up from the blast of all that evil magic and the explosion of the cart I see a slender looking woman in an odd kind of outfit looking over the blast zone where the cart Used to be. She is a little out of focus but more solid looking that a normal spirit. I say spirit as she has an aura and is see through around the edges.
Looking around I find I lost my glasses which is bad as one lense is cracked. I am beside myself as I am close to blind and can't readily get another set. I carefully hold them and try to think of what I can do to repair them, maybe.
The woman looks at me, and in a strange kind of there and not there voice, "Well that was some creative spell casting there. Effective to, more so than is normal really. I got to admit while your not the first to mix arcane and priestly magics, you do it better than most and really asking for Lucks Favor probably helps more than anything with that sort of stuff."
"Magic here is pretty easy over all. Especially as I know both the slang and the language of it, back home they call the slang Gamer Speak. I having been a gamer for over 30 years so know it very well."
Her head rolls forward and she shakes it.
She comes over and fixes my glasses for me. "How did you come to be here ?"
"No idea. One moment I am at home, reaching for my door, the next I am in a wood." She stares at me, something like disbelief crosses her face. So I tell her all I can recall about it. She listens but the Awed Disbelief does not really leave her face.
Finally she holds up a hand, "I believe you, it's just a bit fantastic. Especially as your from a world with such a weak magical field. I know of it cause I been there a few times. Can't become corporeal there though, not enough magic. But still people from your world Never come here. Similar worlds sure, but ones with more magic."
She considers "Can I cast a Sensing spell on you ? It may reveal How you came to be here."
I look at her, "Like a version of legend lore, but for a living person ?"
She considers, "Hm, that actually sounds like a better idea than what I was thinking. So how about it ?"
"Who are you ?" I ask.
She nods, "OH Right, introductions. Locally I am called Tymor (Tea More) but you call me Lady Luck."
Slow nod, "Ah a varient of the Faerun name of Tymora. Who is known to the Latin as Tyche I believe or Dame Fortune."
She grins, "Ok your well educated and yes to all of those."
I consider then nods, "Sure go for it."
She grins as she works out her parameters then cast it so fast it's like listening to an articulate auctioneer.
I find myself in a kind of flash back. I am walking around my apartment building, as I do from time to time for excercise. On the ground I find a small white ring, looks like a bracelet for a barbie doll or the like. On it are the words 'One Wish'. Laughing I make a wish, but not taking it seriously.
"I wish I were younger, like 20, and healthy, no more diabetes, or glandular problems, or birth defects, was better endowd sexually, and had special abilities or powers, like magic, psionics, or mutant powers."
The ring seemed to try to glow in the memory but then didn't. I put it in my pocket and continued on my walk. Dropping it on my dresser and forgetting about it. Then one day it started to glow, I was getting ready to go out, had put on my hat, grabbed my bags and Fade Out.
She stares at me, "Wow you found an actual magic ring with one wish in it. Looks like a random magic surge gave it enough power to transport you to this world, where the spirits of it had enough power to grant the wish."
"So it cured all my birth defects but left me with the injuries I got between the time I was born and what, when I was 20."
"Physically you are 20 now and yes. Though I don't know why your so fat as what was causing that was cured. From what I can see of your personal history, excercise levels and such you would be a little over weight but not to the extent you are now. Also from what I see you should have better over all muscle tone as you actively worked out and studied combat techniques."
"Someone got lazy is my bet." I sigh.
She considers that then nods, "Good point. But otherwise you got the rest of your wish. Magic, psionics, and 'mutant powers' to. Though I doubt your consciously aware of them as they did not tell you what all they did to you did they ?"
I shake my head. "I saw all kinds of spirits with tablets and clip boards wandering the wood that first day. One told me they were looking in to someone who could talk to animals. That is me I think as I am definitely better at it now than before. But I did not learn that skill till I was in my 50's. "
She cast a different spell, it creates a form that shows all my stats and abilities, including skills I note. She summons a scroll and prints it out for me.

-----------
She reads it over as I do. I sigh, "Quirk chart got me, it's why I am overwieght and still nearsighted."
She just nods - takes my glasses and puts an enchantment on them, "Ok then, Enchanted your glasses to never break and self repair as needed, same for your phone. Looks like your home luck and my nature had a meeting and did not tell anyone else. Um, Are you one of those people that has bouts of strange luck ?"
I nod, "Up until my late teen years then it kind of faded away. One of the big ones was I was playing a game with some friends, rolled 20 twenty sided dice and they all came up 20."
She stares at me, "Oh my. Well your not an active wierdness magnet, at least not according to this spell, but I suspect your one of those with a random wierd luck aura. It goes off in spurts instead of being a constant thing."
I sigh, "So explains the slavers I met my first day. And all the inspiration I have had to use priestly type cantrips."
She grins, "Your advanced cantrips are 1st level spells to most people. But given your intelligence score I completely understand how you can do that. Your scary smart. They upped your intelligence in to the God range when they boosted your magic gift. Though from what I can see, you always Had the magic, but the weak magical fieid held you back."
I point to the Title's section, "What do these mean ?"
"As you go through life you will gain titles from various events. You have more than those 2 at present but those are your latest ones. There is a spell that allows you to see and set these but I don't have it handy. That spell you just did, got you the first one. The second, well partly is you met me, partly is you survived that blast. Though I think that is more because of that psion shield of yours. But the world magic does not really 'See' that part, ergo the title."
Looking at my powers, "I see much practice in percises energy control in my near future."
She nods, "Yes and those gifts boost any magic you do in connected areas. You will make a devistating war mage, if you go that route. AH there is nothing keeping you from losing weight or putting on muscle either. Still going to take some work to do it. Also avoid Thessians, they are just self entitled evil people. Especially that Sir Reginald person.
So Glad you killed Fernjan though, he was worse. He liked killing off my worshippers. Hated priest to. OH! If you decide to be a priest I have several lovely temples." Wide Smile.
Chuckling good naturedly "I tend toward mystism over most organized religions." I tell her.
"That works to, not pushing just saying. You have the stats to do well there. Though Magic is definitely your stronger calling.
Well, I have done all I can for you right now. - um your bag absorbed the blown up cart, body and all the items that survived the blast I see. Anyway, any cursed items in there, I suggest you leave them in there. Some of his magic items were ok. Nothing high end and a few may even be useful. He just was a low person. Oh and to use your healing powers, hold out your hand toward the being and Will it. That really is all you have to do. But if you want to add a healing charm to it that will boost your healing output a small bit. You can practice on his horse. It survived though is in bad shape at the moment."
She points me at it before fading away.
'My' horse comes back, shaking his head while I go over to the injured horse. Old, grey, and aging poorly. I can Feel his pain, but it's not hurting me any. Which I like. Normal Empathy made me squeemish. Now it's more like information than actually Feeling it.
I hold out my hands toward 'it' as I note someone gelded him, I think, "By the blessings of Lady Luck, let health be restored to you, so mote it be" I focus on the healing power and push outward with it. I Can almost See how the power is working on him, how things are being repaired and moved about on a cellular level. I also now understand how this power can be used in Aging something. My first try at that he got older, but only by a couple months. I mutter about time flowing backwards, health returning with youth adding in 'so mote it be' and well it works. He gets younger, Lots younger And very healthy to. By the time I stop he is no longer a gelding and looks to be around 2 years old.
He stands and looks at me, then down at himself, including checking out his 'equipment' then back at me, "Are you a god ?"
I chuckle, "No, I am a mage, but a Goddess told me how to do that. Your actually the first being I ever used that power on. I am pleased at how well it worked." I tell him.
Horse (my companion) comes over and looks, "Ok your wierder than I thought, but it's a good kind of wierd now. Talks to animals, ie us, and can heal. Good wierd."
I snort and shrug. The grey Stallion nods, "He put my happy part back on, I am very happy about that. Even more so than feeling young again."
"You are young again. From what I can tell, I crossed a spell for youth with a healing spell and well, I guestimate your about 2 years old physically but you should still have all your memories and skills from your life to."
Grey nods then canters up and down the road, looks around, "Where is that evil little man by the way ?"
"The blast." he nods, "He was closer to it than you had been. Those burnt patches all over the road are all that's left of him."
The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.
He looks around, finds the largest one and pisses on it.
'Brown' which is what I am calling 'my' horse now just shakes his head.
I practice with the energy control and work out how to call up 'displays' of the elemental power as we walk. Fire palm, Jacob ladder on a vulcan hand sign, freezing air around my hands (looks like steam, flowing downward) and stuff like that.
From what Brown tells me, around an hour later, we are almost to Cobberston, there is a check post before we get there. Some guards and such and I should be careful as many on that post tend to be thieves and take stuff from travelers that catches their fancy.
I nod, pull my shrink spell to the front of my mind and keep it at the ready. I meet any theives and they will be 6 inches tall in No Time. See how well the accost travelers when they are Pixie sized.
What I find is a Heavy Wood gate house that goes across the road. It has walls that go in to the edge of the forest and a simple wooden post type gate that offer little protection to the group on the other side of it.
They look very nervous as I and the two horses walk up to the gate.
They don't want to let me through as they heard the explosion and insist I had to be a mad mage.
AS we are arguing about that I note a group of heavily armed individuals coming up the road behind them. The leader is in black robes, like a juror from back home while the rest look more like knights, in chainmail and a couple in partial plate armor, even their horses have chain armor.
Brown see's them and sighs, "now they got nice barding, but going by their stance they are all gelded to. Not a good trade off in my opinion."
Grey snorts, "I don't want to be gelded ever again. It really hurts and makes it so you can't be with the ladies. As far as I am concerned, your my boss now. I don't think you would do that to me."
The horses are not helping Grey is chatty and Brown just makes random commentary.
Then one of the guards snatches my glasses off my face and stuffs them in his pocket. I yelp and tell him to give me them back. He snarls, "They are mine and there is Nothing you can do about it."
I pull up my lightning, while making the 'sign of the devil' like in the hard rock shows (pointer and pinky held up, thumb out to the side, middle fingers folded down) and start an arc of lightning jumping between the extended fingers, "Give me Back MY Glasses Or Else!" I snarl. The other guards draw their weapons while the thief laughs "Try it mage, we out number you."
Voice from the knight behind them, "AND We Out number you thieves."
I watch as one and all of the gate guards eyes go wide as they turn and find themselves surrounded by a couple hundred knights in silver and white tabards. The man in the black robes climbs down from his horse and walks over to the mean guard. He reaches in to the mans pockets and retrieves my glasses, looking at them, "What is the enchantment on these ?" he ask me.
"They self repair. That is it. Blessed by a Goddess earlier today actually." I state as I FEEL a Compulsion to speak only the truth from this guy.
He hands me back my glasses. "Lucky man. This one here," noding to the sticky fingered one, "Can see magical aura's. I suspect he thought to sell those."
I put them on, "I need them to see, otherwise I can see maybe a foot in front of me clearly. With these I can see maybe 20ft."
He nods and gestures to his men. "Arrest these men."
One knight whispers to the black robed man 'should you not check if he has broken any laws ?'
I look at the knight, "Well I did kill a bunch of slavers this morning while triing to escape them. Back in Kreelyn Hollow. Then this nasty merchant tried to charm me and get me to sell him the brown horse, who is not mine by the way, tried to give me some cursed or minor magic items for the horse, then he tried to curse me and his spell bounced off my sheilds, then His cart blew up. If not for my sheilds I probably not be here. As it happened though a Goddess showed up and congradulated me on my innovative use of my spells and how they broke some very evil things. We talked for a bit. She fixed my glasses which were broken in the blast. She told me some stuff about some gifts I have and explained why I find some things so easy and ."
The juror holds up his hand and I stop talking. He gives the knight a wide eyed look, "He is a bit compulsively honest apparently."
The Juror looks at me, "I am High Judge Henry, I naturally project a Truth Complusion aura yes it can be annoying."
I slowly nod, then take a breath and bring my shields up. The Feeling of Needing to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing But the Truth, fades some. Enough I can ignore it. Mostly.
Both the Knight and the Judge seem to notice it. Then again it does glow slightly in the shadows.
Judge Henry looks at it, then taps it, "Ok you have your own gifts then. Mage shield of some form ?"
"Redirects attacks and magics back toward their source. It's actually a cantrip I made up so it's duration is not the best but it works pretty well for what it does. Don't feel the overwhelming Need to speak Only the truth now." I state in a deadpan tone.
He turns to his men and ask for some device (Yo-tan Stone) to be brought forward. "Now I am being curious, so we are going to scan you. As your not a citizen you have the right to refuse this. ... Are you a citizen ?"
"I am not even from this World, so no. The Goddess came cause No One from my world has Ever been pulled here. Well that and I call on her when ever I cast any charm that has a godly influence in it." I explain.
He nods, "Completely understand how that goes. I was pulled here as a child myself. The Knights took me in and I worked my way up to where I am now."
The head knight nods, "Went from our ward to our Master in a few decades, but he Earned his place through hard work."
"From what the Goddess worked out, I found a magic item from This world. Apparently something I said caused it to push me in to this world during a rare magical surge. See magic back home is very weak. So while I had the knack I really could not do much with it. Here my knack is a bit on the scary side."
They put a stone pedistal before me. Another item that looks like it comes from an anime or old time video game. The Knight instructs me and I place my finger tips on it. The display is in their language, so I can't read it (yet). But the format looks much like the one the goddess gave me. But the level it's showing is 4.
The Judge stares at my titles, "Ok then." The knight points at my spells per day list, mostly the Cantrip and 1st level being Infinite. But my other ones look normal, till they realise I am only level 4.
I note this one does not show my quirks chart or skill list. So they don't know what powers I have beyond Natural Mage, which for my level is scary high, especially as the 'count of spells' does not start till level 2 for me. Normally a level 4 mage only has a couple level 1 and level 2 spells at most. I got level 3 spells cause of the boost to my magical powers. Mind you, my actual level is 11. I don't know why it is showing this lower number.
The idiot guard is still there, though tied up now. He scoffs "Ooo infinite level one spells scary."
I nod, "You really don't understand what I am capable of. There are Lots of very nasty and easy spells I can cast. Presently I have Shrink in the front of my mind. Had you all kept threatening me, the lot of you would have been tiny."
Ok the compulsion is still there and I tend toward being honest most of the time anyway, known for having a problem with to much information.
The Judge and Knights are nodding to that.
Judge Henry explains, "He just uses it as an area of effect thing and keeps hitting you all till your doll sized."
"Um, my shrink spell does that on the first strike. Makes things one 12th their original size. See the Magic Language Here." the judge and knights slowly nod, "Are my Native language back home, the words of power, well I been using it for over 30 years and am something of an expert in it. Which is one of the reasons I am so powerful in this world."
The Judge sighs, "Any other hidden skills or abilities ?" I feel the complusion increase. I glare at him even as I answer, "Several. Most seem to be boost to my magic but a few are more useful in day to day kinds of thing. Like I learn languages really fast. Took me 2 hours to learn Thessian, though I am missing several words as I was only in their presence for about a day. Also I can telepathically talk to animals, sort of. I have to speak aloud but I know what they are saying to me."
The younger knight nods, "Those are useful, means he can talk to anyone."
"Almost, my telepathy is limited to birds and mammals, like these horses." I am glaring at the Judge in a way that says I want to punch him right now.
Judge Henry steps slightly behind his knight even as he ask, "In what way do your hidden talents affect magic ?"
"Boost it. Some forms of magic, like healing, I can increase the effectiveness of it. With using a blessing for health and my innate ability I can actually regenerate lost limbs or the like. Though I can't bring anyone back from the dead. At least not yet, that is a high level spell after all. But the ability is called Energy Manipulation. The Goddess told me about it."
Young knight (different from the 1st one), "What is the name of this Goddess ?"
"Tymor, though I tend to call her Lady Luck."
Elder Knight, "Ah so that is what it means by Luck of the Lady - you call on her when you want to boost your magic or ask that it works better."
I nod, "Yep. Asking the Goddess who controls Probability seems to be the best choice when doing stuff like magic. Especially as I am making most of this up as I am going."
I watch the flinch of everyone within hearing. Judge ask, "Mostly."
I pull out the grimior I bought, "I got this cheap as mice got to it and it's missing a bit. But I been using it to teach myself magic. Well this and a book that reads like a mage primer, tells how to draw the energy and use it with out hurting yourself and such."
Judge Henry is shaking his head as he holds the bridge of his nose, "A book by Grillmon. One of the worst mages to ever walk the world. Prolific though in his writings. He self publishes those books by the dozens."
I look at it, "Ok his grammer is bad, but the theory in this book is largely sound and works. I figured out a rather nice combat spell after studying this book. If not for that spell I would be a slave in Thessia now."
Fellow in white and gold robes pushes the men aside, "OH a new spell." I hear the low moan from the knights, "I am GreyMantle, a mage, can you show me this spell ?"
Everyone looks at him while I get an evil smile.
"I mean the written down form, not casting it." he clarifies.
I frown, "I don't have it written down. But it's a pretty easy spell, only level two by my way of thinking." for some reason I feel it's important to put it that way.
The Judge pulls the over eager mage over to the stat stone, "Look this over before you say anything else."
GreyMantle reads over the page, his color dropping as he slowly gets what the Judge is telling him, "Oh well, that would be bad, yes. His understanding of magic and ours, yes I see. What HE see's as a second level spell, we see as a third level spell. He is just that smart" looks at the high knight behind him, "God level intelligence, with a decent wisdom score, so other than the need to speak the truth, fairly high amount of common sense I would think."
I nod a little side ways and back and forth, "Down side to being so smart is part of my mind thinks faster than my mouth more often than not. Which makes me chatty and tends toward giving way to much information than is usually required."
High Knight grunts, "Meaning his wisdom only works when he gives himself time to stop and think. Which is why his command ability is so low." pointing at the last stat.
I consider that and it makes sense. Charisma, combination of appearance and personality. It's why someone with high appearance can have a low score, or an ugly person can have a great personality and thus high score. Though in Dungeons and Dragons worlds, it seems personality and looks run closer together. I been thinking this world is like that, but only cause of the layout of these stat pages. I could be very wrong on that.
Greymantle points to something on the last line, "Look here, his Loyalty rating, it's Much higher than is normal for that rank. Which I think means his inate good character works more for him than against his talkitive nature in the long run."
The High Knight and High Judge slowly nod about that possiblity. A chatty person whose friends are more loyal to me than is normal or something like that.
But really, looking at what they have the only things that stick out are my high intelligence and that boost to my Loyalty. Well maybe Natural Mage. I am looking at the page to, trying to work out the language. The letters look a little like arabic, but thier style of dress and posture style is more middle european. Which is interesting in and of itself. Thessian is more block looking letters as an example.
I tap GreyMantle, "Pardon, but something is bothering me. What is 'high Magic' ?"
He slowly nods, "Depending on where your from. Thessians use it for any combat spells, especially if used against their people, so they can feel justified in turning any foriegn mages in to slaves. But do not concern themselves with the actual level of spells for example. Around here anything over level 4 as the average mage can rarely learn spells over level 6. Takes a person of exceptional intelligence to learn anything higher than that though we know of 9 levels of magic. Cantrips don't count as a level around here. Some places they think of it as all level 1 spells."
I nod, "They don't count as a level to me but then, Infinite casting of them cause they are so easy and I regenerate my own magical energies a little faster. I put it down to the kind of training I have as far as that goes."
GreyMantle nods and is looking thoughtful, "So your only lv 4 because your so young then."
"I am 56. My level is so low cause I have only been studing magic for a few hours and well luck. My other training did not show up on your list for some reason. Possibly as I have not used any of it since I have been in this world. As such the spirits that provide this information don't know about it."
He slowly nods, "You really don't look that old. Odd usually I am better at judging ages than that."
"My mother was the same way, she looked much younger than she really was. Most people put her in her early 30s by the time she was in her mid 60's. Seems I got the same trait."
He nods, "Hm, possibly. Or it may have something to do with the transference to this world. That has happened before to. Have you noticed any physical changes since you arrived here ?"
"A few, for one I am Fatter than I was before, I had managed to lose some 50 lbs." I point to the line in my belt showing how tight it used to be, "All my teeth are back in my head. Even ones I lost when I was a teenager. My legs and shoulders don't hurt from an very bad accident I was in a decade ago, broke both my shoulders. Oddly I still have the scar from that." I pull up my left sleeve, showing the 4 inch scar on my shoulder. "While all the scars on my legs from the accident are gone." I shrug, "So yeah I feel physically different."
Judge Henry shakes his head, "Ok that is very different. It's like you were put together by a commitee or the like."
I nod, "Lady Luck said it was like the luck from my old life and her nature got together with out it telling either of us about it. When I was younger I got boughts of Strange Luck. Anything from finding large sums of money on the ground to well one time I rolled 20 - twenty sided dice in a game, at the same time, they all landed on 20. Have only had one similar experience like it a few years later, but it was 10 sided dice."
"Your one of those people who gets random levels of luck or misfortune aren't you ?" The High Knight ask.
I consider, "It would go a long way in to explaining the past couple of days, so yes ?"
GreyMantle is nodding and grinning, "Sure does explain it. Sucked here from another world, then running in to the Thessians and thier need to enslave strangers. Escaping them by figuring out a spell based on a theory put forth by one of the arguably worst mages in the modern world, then escaping an insane merchant who throws curses on people who call him a liar or worse. THEN he runs in to the thieves who were running this check point, only to have us show up and arrest them."
The Knights, as one take a large step Back from me. Like my luck could be contagious.
I consider, "I have not had this kind of luck in 30 years. I think it's trying to make up for lost time or something."
High Judge Henry, looking Official (standing straight, staff held upright, face steady), "How did you get past the mad merchant ?"
I point to my shield, "I understood the spell he was casting as he walked up to me. Charm spell to make him seem Very trustworthy and honest. So I pulled up my shield, which as you know reflects back a good portion of magic aimed at me. With my sheilds up he felt more like a low level con artist. But when he tried to get me to trade Brown to him, for an ever smoking lamp, that he claimed was a djinni lamp, then tried to sell me a 'lamp that lights up when you clap'. I called him on it, stating I knew the nature of the items he was trying to use on me. He cast a powerful curse at me, it bounced. Something in his cart reacted rather badly to that curse, as did he for that matter. He fell backwards, leasons, boils, and other painful things happening to him. His Horse pulled free of the cart and ran for it. I got blown off my feet, but my shield held, so I am still here. Brown made himself scarce before that. Not sure when as I was focused on the man."
I look at Brown and he says, "When he pulled out that cursed lamp. Well I recognized it. One like it did something bad to my last master. I don't really recall what, but seeing that item. I got the hell out of there."
Grey nods, "I was trying to but I still don't do well as a horse, keep forgetting I can't run on two legs. So of course the blast got me."
I am staring wide eyed at Grey, "Sorry, you don't remember that horses can't run on two legs ?"
He nods, "That nasty mage turned me in to a horse. I used to be a person till a couple months ago."
I roll my head down, "The mad merchant turned grey in to a horse. He Used to be a Person." I tell the others.
GreyMantle slowly nods, "Ok so that merchant was a mage as well as an evil monster of a person. Wonder how he did it."
Grey tells me, "That lamp was a focusing device. Had you taken it you would have woken up a horse. Then he would sell you off."
I repeat what he is telling me to the others here. GreyMantle is nodding and muttering about possibilities and working out 'Things'.
I look upwards, "Lady Luck, is that why you had me heal the horse ?"
I watch the knights take another long step back from me. I look at them, "What ?"
High Judge Henry, "Your glowing. I think that is her answer to you." I look at myself, I can't see it. "It's not visible to me, so it really does not tell me anything."
The Avatar steps out of the guard house door, "Ok my bad." her divine radience is showing this time. I raise an eyebrow at her, everyone else there drops to one knee (even the high judge).
"The Glow was meant to tell you your a bright boy. I forgot you can't see yourself. Though listening to you as you work things out, and talk about your strange luck is very distracting. I so want to have a long talk with the luck gods of your world. Really I do, but like I said, normally your world and this one Don't connect. Your being here is one massive fluke in the system. Beyond even your strange luck really."
"Ok, I get that. Something else probably caused it, it may or may not have had anything to do with that ring, it was just 'right place and time' kind of glitch."
She nods, "Fits. Your probably a casualty of some extra-dimensional war or battle. The magic surge, if not for that item being in your home, would not have done anything to you Except maybe charge your normal luck, and even that is not a given, just a theory. But because of other things happening in nearby dimensions, they leaked over just enough to mess with your life and send you here."
I nod, "Ok, well that theory is better than nothing I suppose. Oh, I got a question about these scanning things and my own history, as you mentioned it earlier to me."
She puts her hands behind her back and nods, "The scanner here, " I nod to it, "and the one you showed me, list me Only as a Natural Mage and the level that is working at. But as you said, I have combat training and Mystic training, but niether has shown on the read outs, why is that."
She looks at it, then has me hand over the page she gave me. It's noticeably longer and more detailed. She looks confused.
She goes over to the stone, reaches in to it and pulls out a very nervous looking spirit (with a clip board I notice) She Glares at 'him'.
He shrugs, "Mystic is not an accepted line of work. Not sure how to clairify it really."
I answer him, "Mystic and Mage are interchangeable. They mean the same thing but are from different cultural backgrounds. In the Old times a mystic, mage and priest or shaman were all one thing. It's only over later centuries that people started to make them sound like something different."
Tymor grins at the spirit. "There you have your answer. Also he is a split class warrior, but I don't see a listing for that either. Now don't try and tell me you can't detect That in him. Or are you all just getting lazy in your duties ?" There is an edge in her voice as she talks to the spirit. He shrinks down and sighs, "Yes mam, I will fix it mam."
The stone Glows and looks newer(?) Then the spirit has me place my hands, palms down, on either side of the symbols. I do so but tell the lady that the Knights here had me only use the tips of my fingers.
She looks at them, "Palms on the stone gives a full and more complete reading. Finger tips lets things slide through, always use the Palms of your hands AND your fingers on the stone to get an accurate reading."
My New read out includes my Skill list I note and a much different 'occupation' (Class) list - Ex Warrior - lv 7. Mystic / Mage lv 11.
IT also includes my Chronological age and physical age I note, otherwise not much has changed. Till I get down to the spells per level listing - I got 2 sets of numbers now. Mage and Priest spells.
Tymor is looking at those to. She sighs, "Ok, well that explains a lot really."
Spell Lvl - #
Mage: Natural Mage bonus of +1 spell per level
C (infinite) 1 (infinite)- 2 (5) - 3 (5) - 4 (5) - 5 (4) - 6 (4) - 7 (-) - 8 (-) - 9 (-) - 10 (- God level)
Wisdom bonus - +2 '1st' +2 '2cd'
Mystic:
C (infinite) 1(infinite) 2 (7) - 3 (6) - 4 (4) - 5 (3) - 6 (2) - 7 (1) - 8 (0 - God level)
I point at 'mystic' "So priest type spells ?"
She nods, "Well you have been using them all along, so it makes sense I suppose. Say, other than me, what do you worship."
I shrug, "Universal Consciousness and Creation."
She face palms, "You have been to the Central Library I take it."
"A few times yes. But just this life time. I figured out the trick to the Guardian and the nature of the City on the Edge of Tomarrow."
She nods, "Yes that would do it. High Mystics like you tend to be a bit wierd to the rest of us. Gods included just so we are clear. You know several keys don't you ?"
"5, though two of them snuck up on me while writting short stories."
She nods, "They can do that. Ok then. Well I fixed their stone and told them how to use it properly from now on. Thinking on it, you would make a lousy priest, though you are a wonderful example of chaos and luck working together. Though not on purpose."
She turns to The 'Others', "The artifact you all were chasing is gone. It's what blew up. And I am so happy that evil thing is gone from the world. I know what the Priest of Michael told you all. But that evil thing powered itself by absorbing the souls out of the children of your lands. That is why you have had so few gifted or creative children for the last couple centuries. That Thing was Eating them. Every child blessed by a god Other than Micheal, it killed. The God of St Micheal has been trying to over throw the other gods and make himself King. That device was one of his more devistating ploys. YOU all are Dedicated to Hersham the God of Law and Justice. Your chosen all come from far away lands or from the ranks of the Lost Because of Saint Micheal and his blasted priest."
I listen, "His priest scan as Neutral don't they ?"
She looks at me even as the High Knight nods, "Yes they do, why ?"
"Neutrals are fun, as long as we keep ourselves in a Balanced state, we can do great deals of Good or Evil and still remain Neutral. So I imagine from what the Lady is saying they do all these little evils to undermine other faiths, removing creative persons from the playing field while visibly doing great or kind things for the public and apparent public well being."
Henry stands up, looking both thoughtful and angry, "Ok now I am really getting angry. I know my Truth aura does not work on them. I can tell when someone Lies to me. But I put it down to their faith interfering with it. That has happened before."
I nod, "There are devices that can block or twist that around to. Amulets of Non Detection can be rigged so the person using it always appears to tell the truth to. As for my nature, you can see on the page here, I am a Neutral with Good Tendancies. Means I have been more focused on being generally nice compaired to keeping things in Balance."
The Lady Nods, but keeps her own council. Me I am working out all the nice things she has done for me are her paying me back for Blessing that mad man and well the dispel curse I worked on the cart to which I believe is part of what caused the BOOM. His curse, with my curse removal. Hm. Yep it makes sense, she fixed and enchanted my glasses, so I could see. But not fixed my eyes ... maybe as an avatar she can't. Don't know the rules there. Then she gave me a copy of my stats and abilities, also nice. Then she came here and fixed their scanner, and got my corrected scores and explained a few things about a plot I would have more than likely walked right in to had I not known about it. Lovely and really I would hate to think what my present mix of luck and general wierdness would do in such a situation.
At any rate I really don't want to get mixed up in that anymore than I already am.
Also I need to work out how to free the two horses and restore them to their human forms.
I tap the Lady, "You would not know where I can get a spell book about reversing transformations would you ? Cause otherwise I may have to work out how to cast a wish."
She blinks at me, looks at the heavens, seems to be working out my chances of casting a wish with my present luck and power levels.
"You can try and truthfully given your luck and wisdom bonuses, you got around an 83% chance of pulling it off. Course if you flub it, it could kill you, or worse." evil smile from her.
"Your just trying to keep the balance and annoy the super mage aren't you ?" her smile gets wider as I say that. I know what I am, I have read the stats she gave me.
I sigh and pull out my phone and turn it on. I pull up this nice Note Pad app I got, it's Useful unlike the one that came with the phone. I open a new file, name it Spell Book. Then spend a minute working out spells I have already cast or created. As I am working, The Lady, GreyMantle and Henry come over and stare at my phone. I look at them, "Yes, I am from a High Technology world, no this is not magic. I am Just making some notes."
The Lady looks at the other two, "I can see him enchanting this at some point to self repair and stay functional, provided it does not get stolen or the like first."
I growl, "Someone steals from me they better hope I don't find them. I got a bad temper and some very useful spells."
Henry nods, "Insta Doll, shrunk to 1/12th their original size."
"And naked to, I have the spell rigged to Only shrink Living things, so clothing and gear get left behind. It's one of the reasons it can shrink a person as small as it can as it will ignore the inanimate stuff."
GreyMantle slowly nods, I think he is getting that. Most shrink spells are area of effect and make Everything smaller. But my version Only makes the People (or animals) smaller. So less things for the magic to have to focus on, meaning more focus for the spirits of magic to do what is requested of them.
GreyMantle points at it, "That is also easily identifiable and if stolen, well WE all know who owns it originally as we are here and see him using it. What is that anyway ?"
"Back home it's called a Cell Phone. Multi functional tool. Communication device primarily with 2 ways to do that. One uses voice, the other sends notes, called text messaging, it has it's own strange slang to. Lots of abreviations and such as the original versions they charged by the letter to use the system. They don't do that anymore though. Got to be to much of a hassle to try and keep track of it all. Otherwise I have this note program, and a clock with an alarm feature, so I can set it to wake me or let me know if I need to be somewhere at a set time. A calander, which is probably useless around here as I doubt you all use the same calander we do. Has a camera, a device for taking pictures, I don't use it much though as it's a bit of a hassle to get the pictures off of it. Especially as I don't have access to a computer anymore. Which is a device that I am not even going to try and explain as the words don't exist in your language, I switched to english damn it." I mutter, about half way through I started talking in english and making notes in Thessian. I back the notes up. Problem is I am tired. I am not used to all this activity and the short night is not helping. I put my phone away even as I yawn. "I am so not used to all this activity. My last job was a desk type. Spent all day sitting at a desk, making notes, writing letters that sort of thing. Now I got to walk everywhere, got very little sleep last night, cause they tried to enslave me. Then all the drama and such. So not feeling all that well now."
Henry nods, "Add to it, it's several hours walk to the city and you can't ride a horse can you ?"
"My bad leg won't let me even get on one. Tried with brown earlier, so did not work." I sigh.
Brown looks at Grey, "His legs don't bend right. It's an old hip injury agrivated by other later injuries."
Grey nods in understanding.
I point to the guard house, "Are there beds in there ?"
Henry nods, "Yes and no you can't use them. Your not a citizen nor are you part of the guard or the knights. They are for official use only."
Slow nod, "Right shrink everyone, Then use the beds."
The Goddess is snickering, "He can do it to, then what will you do ? Your mage does not have the magic to undo His spells, especially as his shrinking spells don't wear off."
That little bit of information really sinks in. The Knights though are already backed up some 50ft and have been slowly backing away this whole time.
Henry turns to say something to them and now see's they are slowly retreating, leaving him and GreyMantle to deal with the cranky, scary mage.
GreyMantle notes that, "Right, they do tend to be a might superstitious for some reason."
Henry rubs his fore head, "Knights. Scariest thing around and they are scared of You now."
I nod, "I got Mini on speed chant, by the time they managed to get up to charge speed, lots of naked people on tiny naked horses."
Lady Luck walks back to the baracks, "Well this has been fun, but I think I am needed somewhere less likely to end in a war between mages. Really not healthy to piss him off."
Henry turns, "Wait lady, what do you mean ?"
She looks at him, "Remember what he told you about his bonus abilities ? MOST of them are Elemental in nature. He gets mad and well he has great potential as a war mage. The kind that can reduce cities to memories if pushed."
I look at her, "I was working at not telling them about that. That is why I used the healing power as an example, not the Other things."
Henry, powers up his aura A LOT, "What Other Things ?"
I sigh, so tired, "Lightning, fire, ice, force, light, I can combine them with my magic, increasing the damage potential by an effective + 5 levels of straight power at present." I count on my fingers, slowly, "1, 3,5,7,9,11. Nope +6 levels of added Boom."
Long nod from the Judge, destruction level 17. Nope, not paid enough to piss me off. He makes sure to grab the Yo-tan stone, the prisoners are collected, he runs for his horse.
GreyMantle is grinning, "Well have a good nap. I suggest Not coming to our city, your not likely to be able to get in."
"Depends entirely on how annoyed I am really. I am not normally a hostile person, but it's been a very long strange day, I am tired, hungry and really I just want a nap. Is that to much to ask ?"
"No not really. I don't understand why he won't let you use the baracks. Ok I know, but really it's not like anyone else is here."
I look at the building, "Except for the people chained up in the cells." I look at him, "I see aura's. So I can tell living from not and some bit about magic but I don't know enough yet to tell what allot of That stuff means. But there are a group of people in there with their hands high in the air. I am thinking tied up." I point to the second building, one with a stone arch and heavy door.
GreyMantle walks over, digs out the keys from his person (huge bunch of keys I notice). He walks in, I follow.
Sure enough there are all these people chained up in a set of cells. Most of them, other than being pretty beat up, look well to do. Healthy, rich maybe. The girls, of which there are 4, are all pretty to. They look scared as well. I think from what I am sensing, they have been raped.
"From the smell and such I think those women have been raped." I tell him. He looks at me, then frowns. He returns out side and YELLS at the retreating army to get thier cowardly butts back here, he found MORE evidence of the guards criminal activities. In the form of Slaves!
Never seen so many heads turn so fast in my life. The guards all now look Really scared. (the prisoner ones).
Meanwhile in the cells, I am staring at these people, "You all look like you have had a worse day then me."
I point at the lock on the door even as this rich merchant looking fellow sighs, "Those locks are proofed against lock picks and magic."
I nod, then blast it with a 3000 pound Kinetic Bolt. WEEE Bit to much power. Blew it right off it's hinges. Fortunetly it missed the men chained to the wall. I sigh, "I am just not awake enough to regulate the energies right."
I look at their chains, then go find GreyMantle, "You got the keys to their shackles ?"
He looks at me, "First we need to learn if any are actually criminals, Then we see about freeing them. Not the other way around. Wait why the shackles and not the door ?"
"I broke that already but in my present state, if I used the same trick it would probably kill the prisoners."
He walks inside, takes one look at the iron door and nods. Yep what ever I did would be fatal to anyone else. He looks back at me, I state, "Lightning, Fire, Ice, FORCE, Light." he slowly nods. Right Force that certainly fits.
He turns to go yell at the knights, only to find the High Knight coming in the door, sword drawn, which he points at me, to get me to back up.
GreyMantle sighs, "Sir Gabriel, you really don't want to annoy him right now." nods to the door, "He opened that, using his special gifts." The knight looks at the door, "Ok. I just don't want his luck to rub off on me."
I grin evilly, "Oh is that all."
He tries to poke me with the sword, I twist, grab his wrist, pull, then HUG him, "here, enjoy the Luck"
Watching him squirm and all is hugely funny to me, especially as I now have his sword. SO glad I studied all that Tai Chi and Karate as a kid now. Came in handy just now.
He is running in cirlces trying to brush off his armor and yelling 'Get it off Get it Off!"
GreyMantle shakes his head, "To late, He got you. You got Luck Cooties now."
I am chuckling about it till Gabriel takes a swing at me. I react by grabbing his arm and dropping him on the floor, inside the cell. I back off, "I may be out of practice, but I am warrior trained." I remind him.
He looks around, then stops as he stares at the men chained to the wall. All his color drains away. He stares, "I thought you all were in the west."
They shake thier heads, "Never made it. We were ambushed in route. Those guards you all have here are in league with the Thessians. They were sending us to them. But they raped the girls, cause they could."
He slowly turns furious.
I sit back and watch.
He turns to GreyMantle, "Unlock them all NOW!"
GreyMantle starts to protest, but the Knight snarls, "They are my brothers, those women are my 2cd brothers wife and daughters."
That is all it takes to get GreyMantle moving.
I walk over to Gabriel and hand him his sword, "My luck is strange but not bad. Part of it is I get premintions that point me to things. Luck pointed me to Look here, and thus we found them. Now you know something important and can learn about a spy ring in your own country. Also, takes a great deal more than touch to get my kind of luck."
He stares at me, I shrug, "I was Born with it. Only way to get it really. Well you could piss off Tymor, that would do it to. Otherwise" I shrug.
He points at me, "I don't like you and I don't trust you. But I have my sworn duty and you have done nothing to illegal so I can't arrest you. I want to though."
Middle Brother, "Gaby lay off the man. You came in and were poking him with your sword cause your so afraid of getting cursed. I think if he wanted to curse you, it would be something worse than Cooties."
I shrug, "Cooties is not a curse really. It's a childhood name for lice. Getting Cooties means you have become infected with lice."
I watch as everyone of their eyes go wide as understanding sets in.
Gaby points at me, "He is a Lost one. Arrived yesterday. Natural Mage on top of it all to. Keeps threatening to shrink anyone who annoys him."
"Better that than my only other 2 spells. Magic Missile or Plasma Ball. Which is a super charged fireball really." I tell them. I look at GreyMantle, "I mixed Lightning with Fire and created it."
He slowly nods, "Difficult but doable, good name to."
Youngest brother, "Ok when all you got combat wise are 3 spells but only one is not lethal, I would threaten with that one to." he points out to his eldest brother as he rubs the circulation back in to his arms.
I move over, "Here, let me see your arms."
Thinking I am going to message them or something he does so, but instead, "By the Light and the Luck, Let my power heal his body." The soft golden light that flows out of me heals ALL his wounds, not just the ones he got recently, but from this whole ordeal, it went so far as to revitalize him.
I turn to the next one released from the wall and do it again. Then the last brother, when done. "I think part of your elder brothers problem with me is I serve a different god than him and she scares him."
They all look at each other, then as one say "Tymor" I nod, they nod, "He has always been afraid she would take offense of something he has done or said and put a curse on him." the middle one explains.
The men all look at me in wonder, even Sir Prickly Pants. I lean on the wall when done, "I am really needing a good nap now." I sigh.
The middle one, "Can you do that some more ?" he is looking worriedly at the women.
I nod, "Yes, the base of the healing is a Power granted to me by what ever force that brought me to this world. The prayer just adds a bit of extra oomph to it."
He pulls me along to his wife and daughters, I work my magic, but am sliding down the wall by the time I am done with them and their servant to. Though by the time I got to her I just did a 'base heal'. Not as effective but it still worked.
Down side is I am now Only speaking English as I am to tired to translate languages in my head. Peter helps me and seems to have a working knowledge of English. He tells me as he walks me to the guard baracks, "I studied the language but my knack is weak, so other than a couple cantrips I can't do much magic."
"Part is knack, part is the wierd slang which is not part of the language really. Its something that came about, at least in my world, from gamers, people who liked to play games based originally on war, stratagy and such but it evolved in to role playing games and such. Multi billion dollar industry back home. Dollar is what my people use instead of crowns. Just so you understand."
He nods and with his elder brothers help they get me in to a common bunk. I am definitely punch drunk at this point. I am also unconscious once my head hit the pillow.
