CHAPTER 6 – A NEW REALITY

A few days had gone for Jamie being trapped inside his new residence. He felt like he was under house arrest. At night when he did sleep. He was visited by Iris in his dreams. She wanted to make him feel comfortable as well talk to someone. Being trapped in that machine had driven her bored. They talked about random stuff such as his hobbies to what he could have done better in the fight he had been in.

Jamie had asked her after the second dream why she only was visiting him his dreams and not talking thought the crystal she had given him. She told him she currently, needed to save her energy. So, visiting him is his dreams was the best option for her for now. Until she got more power. Either from gaining more followers or freeing more of her essence.

Lily and he kept getting into arguments more and more as each day slowly dragged on. Jamie had tried to sneak out on several occasions. He was scolded by Lily for it. The first time he managed to sneak out he was restrained by the guards at the door.

There was a light knock on the door startling both Jamie and Lily. She was preparing a silent cast to defend Jamie. Before asking who it was. Morack responded. “I have news that Jamie would want to hear. I also need to know his side of the story.”

Lily canceled her spell as she went to the door. She was still cautious before opening it to even make sure it was Morack and not some imposter. Seeing that it truly was him through a magic scam she let him in.

“Good job with guarding Lily.” Replied Morack. Lily just huffed with a sigh.

“This one is stubborn as a mule. He was trying to get out more times than I could count.”

Morack turned his eyes back to Jamie. “I have a few matters to discuss. During the interrogation. One of the members by the name of Brad ended up coming clean. He told us everything he knew. He was out for a few days. It was a strange ordeal to be honest. Keep in mind The Black Void Cult members rather would die then give up info. Sometimes we would have to abstract the info from them in a form of brain washing. It usually ends up ninety percent of the time with the member dying. “

Jamie waited for more before he spoke. “That is strange. I did some research up on the cult while I was waiting. The things I saw weren’t pretty.”

If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.

“Anyways, what is going to happen to Brad?” Jamie asked with concern. He may have disliked Brad but knowing the poor guy had nothing to do with the situation didn’t sit with him.

Morack turned away before clearing his throat to speak. “Normally, we just end up terminating any Black Void Cult members we find. The weird thing with the situation. Brad had told us was he was not himself as he was under someone else’s control. When you were instantly revived from what he told me the influence began to dissolve. He cooperated and even allowed us to review his memories. Unfortunately, some of them were blocked out. He really had no idea how he was influenced by the Dark Void Cult. We told him we could either terminate him or wipe the event from his mind and make him a follower of Iris. We told him if he needed time to think on it. We would let him. He told us to leave him, while he thought of his options. He did try to escape a few times though. Not that it really mattered. He wasn’t much of a threat. It is sad to see him broken.”

Jamie just stared away for a while in silence. “Is.., is there any other options Brad could take.”

Morack gave a low sigh. “Even if we were to let him back in society normally. There is a high chance he could be influenced again or even worse assassinated. He can not go back to his normal life now.”

Thank Iris he was single and didn’t have a family going. Thought Jamie.

“This is why I have come to you. We reviewed Brad's abilities and past life. It seems before he was a lead security guard he was a very good rogue. He hasn’t answered anyone after the last meeting. It seems he just wants to confine himself to be locked away forever or trying to escape.”

“We were going to see if you could persuade him to join on as a rogue to help you.”

Jamie sat there confused now, “Why would I need a rogue.” Before he could even finish Jamie was interrupted.

“Sadly, for you as well Jamie your life also can not go back to normal. Until the issue with the Black Void Cult is dealt with. There was a lot we had learned from Brad's memories. Someone had planted a tracking device on you went you were found at the research facility. We are hoping you would join the followers of Iris to help us stop this issue. I want to inform you on more details, but I want to make sure you up to the task. It is either that or having to stay here forever. We cannot let you go simply because we know you process the godly book of summons. If the Black Void Cult got their hands on it the world would end as we know it.”

Jamie took the news hard. He told everyone he needed a few hours to himself. Morack was kind enough to give him his space. He was told not to leave the building. Lily stood guard nearbye while he tried to process all the new information.

Maybe I convince Brad to join me. If Brad can’t escape his fate. Then at least maybe we can be screwed over together. Jamie sat pondering for a few hours before he messaged Lily with his crystal. Can you ask Morack if I can meet with Brad. Hopefully I can convince him to join me.

Lily had gotten the response and messaged Morack who showed up a few minutes later. The trio was then joined by ten more guards as they made their way to the outpost's prison.
