CHAPTER 2 – A FATEFUL ENCOUNTER/ A SUMMONER’S WILL

Jamie arrived at the government research facility for magic use. He got out of his car and headed for the security office to meet Brad. Why I am always the scapegoat when there are so many others that work here? He thought. Jamie despised Brad, but he put up with him for the money. “Hey there Brad.” Jamie tried to say with a polite tone but came out a low grumble came out.

Brad was sitting in a chair with his feet up on a table. Jamie had first met the goblin in charge many years ago. He was the lead security guard for the facility. He wore a guard’s uniform that looked too tight on him. He wore dark rimless sunglasses that made him look like some big shot. He was tall and slender. He locked his green eyes on Jamie and smiled with a toothy grin baring his teeth. Brad moved his hands through his black spiky trimmed hair. He then poked in one of his pointed ears as he spoke.

“I heard you were banned from summoning anymore.” in a mocking tone. Jamie just sighed.

“Where do you need me to patrol?” He asked Brad.

“I need you to patrol building A then building B after.” Replied Brad.

Jamie went into the locker room and changed into his uniform. He grabbed a magictech pistol from the lockers, a radio, a flashlight, and few other things. He then headed for building A. The building was used for biochemistry testing in magic. Jamie wasn’t sure if Brad was being a dick or being nice for letting him patrol the building. The building has a few summons I would like to check out before I head over to building B. He thought.

A bunch of the rooms were off-limits. The security to get into those rooms was beyond Jamie’s paygrade. His job was to just make sure they were shut tight. He quickly checked each door as he walked down the long hallway on the first floor of building A. The lights were dim but gave him enough light to see.

Jamie had made his past room 2C when he noticed the door was slightly open. “Odd”, he thought. Jamie went up to the door and pushed against it. Instead of pushing it open. The door just fell off its hinges and crashed with a loud sound. Oops, Jamie thought.

He quickly went for the flashlight on his security uniform. Jamie turned on the flashlight and scanned around the room. Nothing seemed to be out of place or touched. The room was in decent order as books, journals, computers, and other office equipment were present. The place was messy to begin with but nothing Jamie was used too. The thing that caught his eye was a light coming from another room. He frowned when he noticed the light. He quietly walked over to the other door to the room. He kept quiet as he put his ear to the door to listen. He wanted to check for any noise at all. He waited a few seconds and heard two people talking in a language he couldn’t understand. The voices sounded like an old raspy snarl. Jamie waited to open the door. He wanted to try to figure out what was on the other side. He stood there with his breath steady. He wasn’t scared of what lay on the other side. He normally just scared people with an intimidating appearance.

After a few minutes, he heard machinery starting to turn on. At this point, he opened the door surprising the two figures inside the room. He was about to ask what they were doing here. Jamie froze and dropped his flashlight. The two beings he looked at weren’t human at all. They both were around 6 feet in height. Almost as tall as Jamie who was 6 feet and 2 inches. They had bodies that were half wolf/ half man. Werewolves, what are they doing out of the containment cells? He thought, looking at them with his mouth open.

They both turned to Jamie in shock and then began to howl. The howling alerted a few people. Two people in robes came to the werewolves and they both looked at him in shock as well. The two figures were just as tall as the werewolves. They wore black cloaks over their bodies as if they were part of some evil cult.

Jamie managed to break out of my own shock. “What are you doing in here?”, he demanded. Jamie knew he was in trouble. He pulled out my radio and called for help. “This is Jamie!” He yelled into the radio in a panicked voice. “There are intruders in building A, room 2C! He continued to yell. He heard another response on the other side from Brad. “This better not be another false alarm.” Brad replied. “I’m not joking.” He said before he could get the reply though. The radio fizzed and crackled with static then died. “That’s just great. How I am supposed to work security if they keep buying cheap equipment.” He thought in frustration. He throws the lifeless radio on the ground. I need to figure out how to take one of these guys down for interrogating. If they get away, I will be fired.” He continued thinking. “I just hope I get some sort of back up at least. He thought.

Things would only get more difficult though. The other two yelled in some language Jamie couldn’t understand, and a third figure was taller than the two robed figures. This person was standing about 6 feet and a half. They also wore black robes. They pulled out a long metallic rod. As they were pulling out the rod. Jamie reached for his gun. “Don’t move or I’ll shoot.” He warned. Jamie decided then and there. The tallest of the bunch, he would take in for interrogation. The robed figure shot a bolt of lightning out of his rod at Jamie. He barely avoided the bolt of lightning as it flew over his head. He could feel the heat coming from the bolt. The bolt flew past Jamie and slammed into the door he had entered the room in. It blew the door off its hinges. Jamie ran his hand through his spiky jet-black hair. The bolt had come so close to Jamie. He thought his hair had been singed.

Jamie then dashed past the group. The tall, hooded figure began to shout and both other hooded figures and the werewolves split up trying to encircle him. Jamie’s back was now against the machine that they were running. The tall man wasn’t happy that Jamie was near the machine, whatever it was. The figure watched Jamie with a cautious expression. Jamie had his gun pointed at him. Jamie kept his eyes on him as if in some sort of trance. Jamie felt a sharp pain in his right leg. Jamie fell to his knees in pain. Jamie was so focused on looking at the tall figure he hadn’t noticed one of the werewolves sneak up on him. Jamie grunted in pain and punched back at the werewolf who jumped back at the perry. He then fired a bullet at the werewolf as well to keep it on guard.

While all this was going on. The tall figure took the opportunity to shoot another bolt of lightning at Jamie. He turned back to the tall man as he was casting another spell. With true marksmanship, Jamie shot the rod out of his hand. It fell out of his hands and the bolt of lightning hit the machine. The tall man in the robe started saying something Jamie couldn’t understand, whatever he was saying was lost to him in his angry voice.

The machine began to light up like a Christmas tree. I need to get out of here.” Jamie thought in a panic. “I don’t want to get blown to smithereens or worse. He continued to think. He tried to get up and run but his right leg wouldn’t support him. As he tried to crawl away from the overloading machine the tall figure mouthed something over at the other two figures in robes. Who then said something to the werewolves. The werewolves followed the taller figure. The tall figure ran for the blown-up door and into facility A. Jamie tried to shoot a few rounds at him but missed.

One of the other robed figures saw Jamie wasn’t a threat came over to him. The robed figure kicked Jamie in the stomach. He lost my grip on my gun. Jamie doubled over in pain. As Jamie heard a cracking noise in my chest. “Damnit, they must have broken a rib.” He thought. As tears rolled down his eyes. The robed figure picked up his gun and pointed it at his head. Jamie closed his eyes waiting for the end. All he heard was a clicking noise. “The gun must be out of ammo,” Jamie thought amusingly.

Frustrated, the figure kicked him again. This time Jamie landed on my back coughing up blood. Then the figure picked him up by the collar of his outfit and threw him at the machine. Jamie hit it with enough force, He felt the back of my skull crack. Jamie yelled out in pain. The machine began to overload as he hit it. He felt a terrible electric shock. At that point, He began to blackout as he heard a loud boom…

Jamie slowly began to regain his focus as he blinked. “I must be dead,” he moaned. “Oh, you are not dead Jamie. You are just dreaming right now.” Said a voice. Jamie looked around for the voice. The voice came from a woman in front of a door with a seal on it. “It seems the power has awakened in you”, the woman said.

The woman stood at about 6 feet 5. She wore a simple white robe. She held a brown staff with a white flower on top. Her hood was down and showed her face. She had pointed ears and long blond hair that was smooth and silky. Her eyes were green in color. Her skin was alabaster white and smooth as silk. Her mouth was open with a perfect smile as she spoke.

“Hello Jamie, it is nice to finally meet you. I hope you are ready for your awakening.” she said.

“What do you mean you are finally able to meet me and my power awakening?” Jamie asked looking back at the woman back in confusion.

“My essence had been locked up in that device.” She simply said. “I need your help.” She then pleaded. “It is a long story that I’ll reveal over time. I can at least tell you a few things. This will be hard to believe but you are a special case for a summoner”, she said with a grin.

“A what?” Jamie asked in shock.

A summoner. Within your mind, there are beasts that are locked up that only you can summon. The summons are very special with god-like powers.” She replied. “Unfortunately, I am the only one who can unlock the beasts within you. Also, I can only unlock one summon. My power has been restricted and I used up a lot too just now.” The goddess stated.

“Is that why I cannot summon any beasts because you have to break them free.” I asked, “Yes.” She replied. “There are those who don’t want me to succeed at stopping the cult you just fought. I did what I could to stop them. I was led into a trap many years ago. I couldn’t escape. They then trapped all my other fragments in different locations.” She spoke. “The followers of The Black Void sealed me away and hid my essence throughout the world. They tried to use them to resurrect void spawns. I resisted the best I could. When that failed, they sent me away to different places to use my power to test things.” She spoke. “So here is one of my beings you have happened to run into as well as stop the cult from using the chaos bringer’s power.” She spoke.

“Who is The Chaos Bringer?” Jamie asked, raising his eyebrow.”

A long and old forgotten deity. He was very popular with cults for thousands of years. There was another deity involved who wanted to use his power. A lot of other gods liked to use his power. This one happened to start the whole thing and now some deity or deities are working together on a plot of some kind.” The goddess said. “That is where my story comes into play whenever a sort of issue like this breaks out. I oversee in thwarting the plots. Unfortunately, this time they succeeded in trapping me.” The goddess said.

“I did my best to reach out to my own followers. The Black Void cult however seems to recently have found a way to cut off communication with my followers.” She spoke. “Due to you interfering with the cult using the machine. I was able to overload it and enter your mind. That allowed me to reach out to them. I also asked them to come to your aid, Jamie.” she said. “You mentioned some followers. Which goddess are you?” Jamie asked. The goddess replied. “I am the goddess of fate, Iris.” Iris said with a smile. “Now should we get the first summon unlocked for you?” She spoke.

-------------------------------------------------------

“Once I open this door the first beast will be able to be under your control. I will also give you this.” Iris said. Jamie looked at the crystal the Iris handed me. “What is it,” Jamie asked. “I will let you keep in touch with you,” she said. “Currently, I am trapped here in your mind,” Iris sighed. “The gate I am about to open houses a special beast with healing even can fully revives someone.” Iris stated. “Unfortunately, the revival has a cooldown for up to 2 days every time it is used.” Iris said. “My followers will be here shortly,” Iris said.

She opened the first gate, and Jamie was blinded by a white light. “Until next time, and don’t try to die please within the next two days, also be good to the people treating you, they will protect you.” Said Iris. “What?” Jamie stammered as the white light vanished…
