CHAPTER 4 – A TEST OF WILL PART 1

Jamie and Lily both arrived at his new place of residence. Lily informed him he would be meeting with Morack in a little while. He oversaw security at the facility. He would need to get more info from Jaime to know where his weaknesses and strengths were.

She handed him a crystal and told him it was a communication device used by all of Iris’s followers. If he ever needed help all he needed to do was think of the person. Jamie tested the crystal with Lily. Both of their crystals glowed a bright white. She told him the test was a success. He just shook his head at the wonder. She then went over a few other details of other colors the crystal gave off for troubleshooting. If the crystal was colorless that meant there was no mana present to activate it. Red meant someone was interfering with magic or some other way. If it was red the recipient couldn’t receive it. Yellow meant the message was sent, with interference. There were other colors she went over that took up a good half an hour of explaining. She then left him to his own place as he began to explore.

The place was huge. Jamie jaw dropped when he first entered as he looked around. The doorway led to a long hallway that broke off into other rooms. The first room Jamie saw on his left was a study. I’ll look at this room a bit more later. He thought to himself as he continued his way past the study.

The next room Jamie looked over was the kitchen. The walls and floors had marble tiles of green and white. The kitchen was filled with all sorts of appliances that ran on magictech.

Jamie spent the next few hours exploring the rest of his new residence. There was an arcade with Jamie’s favorite games to play. A dining area set up for ten or more people. A master bedroom with a master bath. The bath had all the works including a sauna and a pool. There were at least six guest bedrooms as well. There was even a simulated training area for Jamie to practice with his summons.

After he had done his exploring the new place. Jamie set his sights on the study. He wanted to see what kind of research he could find on summons. Jamie went into the study and sat at a desk that had a computer. Jamie turned the computer on. What he didn’t expect as it booted up to life was the screen. Instead of a login it just had a search bar asking for a prompt. Jamie was curious about the book that Iris had given him. So, he typed in “The book of Godly Summons.” The table he was sitting at made a noise as the computer projected an image of the book. Jamie was disappointed with the results as no one had any info on the book. It only gave a history of Iris as its creator and a few other useless trivia. Jamie just sighed as he was about to search for something else.

Jamie’s thoughts were interrupted when he heard a knock on the door. That must be Morak. Jamie thought to himself as he got up to go answer the door. He went to answer the door with care in the world. As soon as he opened the door. Jamie was thrusted back into the main hallway. He was sent flying to the left as he crashed through two walls. Jamie ended up in the kitchen. Jamie gasped as his breathing became hard as he coughed up blood. Explosions soon followed as the building was now beginning to catch fire. Jamie got up even with his injuries. He needed to escape. He tried to use the crystal that Lily had given him. Jamie tried to contact Lily. Only for the crystal to glow yellow then red.

Unsure what to do Jamie went for a window in the kitchen and tried to jump out. He was repelled back into the building by some sort of magic force field. His attempt to escape had alerted the intruder of his location. He heard more explosions going off as he heard a familiar voice call out to him. Jamie was in a daze as he stood there. He turned his head to look at the figure that had called out to him. He couldn’t see clearly from the pain as his vision swam. All her saw was a blurry man in a black robe.

You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.

“You know I didn’t want to hurt you, but I wasn’t sure what to expect here.” Said the stranger with a cold tone. Jamie still couldn’t focus as the figure walked up to him. The stanger’s touch paralyzed Jamie as he was given a status warning from the crystal Iris had given him.

“You have been paralyzed.” It warned him. Jamie was frozen with fear. This is the end. Jamie thought as he closed his eyes.

The next thing he knew his injuries were gone. Jamie opened his eyes to have an even bigger shock. The voice of the stranger was Brad staring at him with toothy grim. He wasn’t in his security officer’s uniform now, but a robe of the Black Void Cult.

“I’m terribly sorry about what I did. I wasn’t sure what was going on. They told me I needed to recruit whoever was living here.” Brad spoke to Jamie in a calm tone. Brad kept his mouth shut about the other option he was given. If the target didn’t cooperate. He was told to kill the individual and loot the book that fell off them.

Jamie was in shock as he opened his eyes to see Brad in the robe. “So have you been working with the Black Void Cult this whole time.” He asked with a tone of disappointment and defeat.

Brad didn’t want to tell the truth. He wanted to persuade Jamie to his side without having to kill him. In a way Brad had a liking for Jamie. Although Brad wanted power more than anything and he was given the chance too now.

Brad told Jamie a lie to persuade him. “I heard the Black Void Cult owned the building we do security runs. If you join me, you can have access to all the summons your heart desires.”

Jamie was tempted. He declined Brad’s offer though knowing what kind of monstrosity the Black Void Cult would do if they got more powerful.

Jamie just shook his head as he gave his final answer. “I’m sorry Brad but I had learned a lot from what the Black Void Cult was capable of and their end goal. I will not join you.”

Brad sighed as he spoke. “It is a pity then. Guess I’ll have no choice but to kill you.”

Jamie was then blasted by another fireball. This time he went flying into the kitchen wall. He flew past through two other walls along the way before crashing in the main hallway. He saw the door was still open. He looked outside to see fighting going on.

How have I had not noticed the fighting going on. Jamie thought as he starred out at the unfolding chaos. He saw the same figures from before. The same ones who attacked him at his security job. The tallest of the bunch was holding up a barrier that had Jamie trapped inside. The other two were controlling the summons. Lily was with a few others as they were fighting their way through a horde of summons. They were getting the upper hand from what Jamie could tell. Although he knew they couldn’t reach him in time. Brad approached Jamie who was still paralyzed as he picked him up. He then walked out front of the door with Jamie by his the hood of his robe. Which was now burnt, torn, and covered in blood.

Lily looked to see Jamie as he gave her a sad smile. Lily’s face turned to rage and anger as she began bulldozing her way through the summons. The others tried to stop her reckless rampage as she pushed everyone aside.

Brad just snorted as he took pity on her. He then turned his attention back to Jamie as he spoke. “She won’t reach you time.” Brad began to laugh as he cast a spell. The last thing Jamie felt was his heart being ripped out…
