Dao Abilities

While standing in the field delivering his lecture, Fang Hu was once again glad for his 'curse' from the system. It had made delivering his lines so much easier. Hell, if it weren't for his censoring, Fang Hu would have to take several hours organizing his knowledge to make it easy to follow and digest. His censorship made it so all he had to do is spout his knowledge at his disciples and it would come out easy to understand and appropriate for a scholar. The first function would only helpful in teaching disciples, while the second function would help Fang Hu in any endeavor to blend in, not that Fang Hu had plans to do much of that. Fang Hu also had to admit, his last warning about body cultivators hit a lot harder than:

*Listen you two, all cultivators can do wacky shit. 'Some people' think that body cultivators can't,'some people' clearly have no idea about the sheer number of cultivation techniques. Anyone in this world can 'go against the heavens' and pull random shit out of their ass. Some people don't even need to try, just keep on your toes.*

Fang Hu noticed his disciples moving in slow motion, his cultivation techniques had strengthened his mind. It was an odd sensation, without a proper mental technique, something Fang Hu was hesitant to mess with, there were no actual improvements to his mind. It was less of a 'I can think better!' and more of a 'I can be stupid faster!' type of deal. Anyway, as soon as his students were in position, Fang Hu resumed his lecture.

*Daos can provide abilities, I show you two of mine now.*

"Following the path of a dao has many benefits, one of the many benefits often provided is the power to defy the heavens without the aid of a technique. Witness the innate powers of my two daos."

With that Jiahao and Dai Yi awaited their master's showing of power. At first, they were excited to see what their master had in store for them, but, over time, they grew restless, their master had stood there, looking at them expectantly. With a start, they both realized they couldn't move. Every time they tried, the duo would feel as if they would die if they moved the slightest bit. With a start, Jiahao realized what was happening, and Dai Yi quickly reached the same conclusion as her senior. Their master was releasing enormous amounts of killing intent all around them, and if they moved even the slightest amount, they would become the targets of that unreal amount of killing intent. Now that they knew what was happening, their imaginations, or perhaps Fang Hu's dao, formed hallucinations of snakes. Snakes, carpeting the ground and flying through the air. The snakes were all watching them, thousands of beady little eyes, all focused on their every movement, or lack thereof.

Fang Hu let his ability drop, and his disciples dropped as well. He let them take a moment to recover. Because the killing intent wasn't actually directed on them, it would have no effects on their bodies, what they were recovering from right now was the stress of the situation. From what Fang Hu knew, it should pass momentarily. Unless either of them had a significant fear of snakes, but that shouldn't be the case. For one, neither of them had ever seen a snake their entire life, and for two, their master, a person they hung out with all the time, was a snake cultivator. You couldn't 'catch' a dao or anything, but certain tendencies started to rub off on people who hang around those who actively cultivate a dao.

After giving them a proper breather, he continued on with his lecture.

*That was my snake dao. It allows me to control my killing intent, and it gives me a lot more of it. That allows for a great deal of versatility.*

"Following the dao of the snake provides one with the ability to control one's killing intent. An assassin might use this ability to deliver a killing blow without any killing intent, and a monk might use this ability to disperse his enemies without spilling a drop of blood."

Dai Yi raised a hand.

"Master, isn't that impossible?"

Fang Hu let out a laugh.

*Yes, but no.*

"Yes, it is impossible to release killing intent without intent to kill, for those are the one and the same. But remember little Yi, the entire foundation of cultivation is to reject the will of the heavens and replace the laws of the world with your own. You, as an immortal cultivator, will take qi, the very fabric of the universe, and use it to create your own reality. So what if it is impossible to try to kill something without trying to kill it? You will encounter much stranger things in your road to glory."

While Dai Yi was preoccupied with visions of glory alongside her master and elder disciple, Fang Hu and Jiahao shared a good laugh. They knew of Dai Yi's dreams, and they would never laugh at her dreams, but they were still allowed to laugh at their childish nature while supporting her. Fang Hu truly believe what he said, but he still found it funny stating them.

Afterwards, Fang Hu continued with his lecture.

*Let's go for two.*

"Now, it's time to unveil the strength of my second dao."

Before he could get on with it, Dai Yi raised her hand again. Fang Hu had a smile on his face, well, he always had a smile on his face, but his disciples could tell he was genuinely happy. They assumed that, as a scholar, Fang Hu just liked to answer questions. While that is true to some extent, answering a child's every question would have gotten annoying, even to Fang Hu. No, what made Fang Hu happy was that every time Dai Yi would ask a question, Fang Hu would feel Jiahao listening intently. Even if the old man was too stubborn to ask a question unless he really needed help, he was secretly as enthusiastic about learning as Dai Yi, the ten-year-old, and Fang Hu found that fucking hilarious.

"Master Fang, how can you have two daos?"

*Not have, anyway, you can follow as many daos as you want, the problem is finding how to follow them.*

"Little Yi, we've been over this, you follow a dao, and you have a dao pillar. I will be adding this to the test. You can follow as many daos as you like, as long as they do not conflict with each other. Even then, it is possible to get around this limitation with the right techniques. The problem occurs at the technique level, most cultivation techniques only allow for one dao, and most cultivation techniques do not allow other cultivation techniques of the same nature to be used simultaneously. Techniques that follow daos but are not cultivation techniques are generally viewed as weak and slow to master. There are sure to be many ways around this soft limit on following the daos, but I am afraid to say that is still beyond me at this time."

Dai Yi looked satisfied at this answer, and Fang Hu hurried to perform his dao ability before he could be asked any more questions. He activated his ability without the grandstanding of before. Before his disciples eyes, solar qi began to gather around Fang Hu. Our hero decided to forgo using his ability, and just explain it. If he had to give this ability a name, it would be named Tayio-ken, but luckily for Fang Hu's honor, he couldn't assign weeb names to his abilities.

*This allows me to control sunlight and solar qi. Among other things.*

"Following the solar dao allows one to manipulate sunlight and solar qi."

As Fang Hu was talking, light around him warped, becoming brighter in places and entirely dark in others.

"This allows for stealth and a temporary reinforcement of the body. I can also use this amulet expedite this process."

At the end of Fang Hu's sentence, his orange gemstone amulet glowed a golden orange, then, in an instant, the glow flashed to cover our hero's entire body. Fang Hu glowed like a vibrant sunset. He then began to perform his daily exercises. Jiahao and Dai Yi were acquainted with their master's daily exercises, which was why they were so surprised when, with the same amount of effort as ever, he began to exhibit explosive amounts of strength.

*I can't do techniques without having proper techniques for you all, so let's do something else.*

"You know what techniques are, if they use qi, then they are a technique. I can not delve deeper into the matter until you have attained proper techniques. For now, let us focus on combat exercises."

His disciples sighed at that. Normally people would love to practice combat in this world, but their master's combat training was different. It was 9 parts boredom with 1 part panic. It was his philosophy that they will not get to choose their battlefields, so they should be ready for anything.

The sounds of training broke out at Jiahao's farm.
