46. Succes!

I moved my arm, and dim pain reminded me of my mishap. The pain was still present, but it was already within a limit that I could function with, so I entered my mind space without leaving my bed. Circuits of my broken spell appeared in front of my eyes once again. Without any further ado, I removed all references to a space element to replace them with a wind one.

'It does not have a space attribute in it, so enemies can still teleport away, but that is not the purpose of this barrier anyway. It only needs to block shockwaves and heat from my strong spell so I can use it in my city without destroying the whole street.'

After hours the circuit of the dome-shaped windshield was finalized, but It felt a little bit lacklustre and plain to me. So I started to think about how to improve it.

'I can add an option to change its size during casting. That way, it would be more versatile and mana efficient.

It wasn't very hard to do as I only needed to slightly modify the control circuit and shape defining circuit. The whole improvement only took half an hour!

I gave the whole spell once over before nodding to myself with contentment as it looked exactly like what I wanted.

'It is a little bit plain, but that is good in the current situation as it needs to be cheap to use. I don't need anything fancy and mana hungry. It can't tank a direct hit from my strongest spells, but it does not have to as I will be not aiming at it. It only has to tank shockwaves and heatwaves.'

I opened my eyes and hopefully waited for a system announcement.

Ding!

System Announcement

You learned a new spell!

[Wind-Dome Shield] has been added to your spell list

My eyes glowed in golden energy as my system officially recognized my spell as functional. I checked my status, and [Minor Mana Burns] already vanished as twelve hours already passed. Slowly I moved my arm and waited for the pain to come. Nothing happened, so I stood up and waited again. Nothing happened again.

'It looks like that negative status was the source of the pain. Or maybe that status was just a manifestation of damage to my body.'

I walked towards a window and jumped out, effectively avoiding the whole labyrinth of castle hallways. I spread my wings, slowing down my fall before safely landing in the courtyard.

If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

'Wait for a second. Plenty of people in the city will spot a big dome of wind currents. That way, I will lose a moment of surprise for the first time I use it. I will go somewhere in the wilderness.'

So I spread my wings again and rocketed out of the courtyard towards the sky. In the distance were mountain peaks. I chose them as my destination as everything around me turned to blur as I speeded towards the mountain, leaving a trail of particles emitted from my wings behind me.

The scenery under me changed from that of a city into a field. Then from the fields into a forest.

I decided to land. The trees under me were thick, but I decreased my altitude until I reached the tops of the trees. I didn't stop but continued, hitting branches under me.

"Crack," ground under kept getting closer and closer as branches kept hitting my barrier and breaking under the force of my landing. Finally, I hit the ground.

'This looks like good testing grounds,' I looked around myself. Trees were everywhere with nothing else in sight.

I raised my hand and poured mana into a circuit. At first, mana started to whirl around me. Then dry leaves lifted from the ground, and winds began to howl around me. Air started to move and whirl in a circular shape around me. The whole circle had a radius of fifteen meters. The strength of the winds kept increasing. Dust, leaves and branches joined the whirl of winds. A massive dome made out of flying objects and wind rose around me. Trees touching the dome were uprooted and joined the flying mess. A deafening shrieking sound echoes through the forest as the wind reaches tremendous speeds. I couldn't even see out of a dome as all I could see was an enormous dome made ut of blur and garbage.

"Hahaha," I started to laugh as it worked exactly as I intended.

'Should I test its strength? No, I do not want to burn down a forest if something goes wrong. One has to be careful...

'It's time for me to learn from my mistakes caused by my impulsive decisions.'

I waved my hand and dispelled the whole barrier. All objects caught in the wind instantly dropped to the ground.

"Hmm, I wonder if it is the same forest that I appeared in when I arrived in this world."

I spread my wings, wanting to leave a forest, 'I really want to test the effectiveness of my barrier. I saw some mountains in the distance. They are just bare rocks, so there should be no forest fire hazard.'

So I turned in the opposite direction of the city and, with a decisive move of my wings, I speeded up towards the mountains on the horizon. Forest changed into a green blur as I kept getting faster and faster. Mountains that looked small from a distance started to grow taller. They were majestic, with their snow-covered peaks tearing through the clouds. Three peaks were especially towering and domineering.

I approached one of the shorter peaks and started to fly around in a circle, looking for a good place to land. It didn't take long, and I spotted a relatively flat place covered in gravel. I gracefully landed and immediately started to cast [Wind-Dome Shield]. Powerful wind once again formed into a dome. Wind currents were so strong that even rocks from the ground joined a whirl.

A grin appeared on my face in anticipation of my test results.

In my hand, a sphere of purple plasma started to grow. Its size increases every moment. It finally reached the size of a melon, and I released it towards a ground meters away from the edge of the dome.

A bright light flashed at the peek. It was a short and bright flash that was visible from a great distance. A massive wave of heat rose from the point of impact.

I averted my gaze towards the sky, 'Why do I always forget that I need protective glasses...'

Then I felt an impact on the dome, draining my mana.

After a few moments, the drain stopped, and I turned my gaze toward a place of impact. There was a gaping crater with a surface made out of smooth glass. Surrounding gravel in close range to the crater melted into the lava. Further away, gravel didn't melt only started to glow in dim red light as it reached a high temperature. Then I looked behind a wall made of the wind and flying gravel. There was a visible border where was the base of the dome with blazing red gravel on one side and cold grey gravel on the other side.

My eyes shined in bright golden light at my success.

I waved my hand, and my dome dissipated with the banging of falling rocks. Preparing to leave, I spread my wings.

"Groarrrr," a thunder-like growl came from behind me.
