CH 37-0: Aftermath

In a heavy-handed strike, the Reckiwoo made a critical mistake. The Reckiwoo stumbled, its grin wavering as it faltered under the overwhelming force of my proceeding ear strikes.

The ground shook, and the trees swayed as it staggered. The Reckiwoo's boisterous laughter was silenced, replaced by a sharp gasp of agony as it struggled to maintain its footing.

In its frenzied attempt to recuperate, the Reckiwoo left another opening that I exploited with a lightning-fast strike—infused with the full power of my lightning and the [Melodious Shout].

The strike connected with the Reckiwoo's face, sending it flying through the air in an explosive shower of dust and debris.

The Reckiwoo crashed to the ground with a heavy thud, its once-grinning face now twisted in agony. It struggled to rise, its strength having been depleted.

The Reckiwoo staggered again, its grin waning even more.

In that moment, I knew that victory was within reach. I charged forward, drawing upon the last reserves of my energy, and delivered a final blow with all the power left in me. And as I closed in on the Reckiwoo, it was there that I unleashed a final, devastating strike.

My [Melodious Impact] connected with the creature, sending shockwaves of electricity and sound through its body. The ground trembled beneath us, sending ripples across the nonexistent forest floor.

For a moment, it seemed as though the Reckiwoo had weathered the final assault. But then, with a sudden jolt, it stumbled back, its formidable frame crumbling before my eyes.

The Reckiwoo let out a deafening cry as it collapsed, falling unconscious. Its once-confident grin, finally vanquished.

I stood there, breathing heavily, my body battered and bruised. The battlefield around me was a mess of destruction, trees uprooted, boulders shattered, and the ground split open in deep crevices.

But I had emerged victorious.

As the adrenaline faded and I began to feel the full extent of my injuries, I realized that this battle had changed me. I had pushed myself to the brink, tapping into a strength and power that I never knew I had.

The encounter with the Reckiwoo affirmed the path I had chosen. There was no room for complacency; instead, I would pour my efforts into sharpening my skills, expanding the boundaries of my abilities…

Feeling satisfied with the outcome of the battle, I made my way towards the fallen Reckiwoo. The creature lay there, defeated, yet somehow dignified in its loss.

I approached closer, still panting as I looked down upon the once-mighty creature. With a deep breath, I reached out, offering my hand in a gesture of begrudging respect. The Reckiwoo twitched, but did not move, its consciousness seeming to have been completely lost amidst the battle's fury.

I stood there, breathing heavily, listening to the sound of the breeze through the trees. The earth was still shaking, but it was a peaceful tremble, a release of tension. I had won the battle, but what had I really gained? As I looked down upon the Reckiwoo, defeated and broken, I couldn't help but feel sad for it. Sad for this battle maniac…

The battle had taken its toll on me, mentally and physically. A companion lost, and another broken.

I knew that I would carry the memory of this battle with me for the rest of my days. Me against the Reckiwoo.

Finally, I lay on the ground, my body aching and battered—a heavy silence settled over the battlefield.

I slowly pushed myself up, wincing at the pain that coursed through my battered form. My gaze scanned the area, searching for any signs of my fallen comrades. And then, to my surprise, and overwhelming relief, I saw it: the Plelepun limping towards me.

I almost shed a tear as I watched the Plelepun approach, its trunk swaying weakly with each step. Despite the injuries it had sustained, the Plelepun's resilience shone through its weary demeanor.

"Yo," the Plelepun rasped. "I... I made it."

A surge of joy and relief washed over me at the sight of the Plelepun's resilience. Despite the devastating events, it had managed to survive, refusing to succumb to the overwhelming power of the Reckiwoo. I crawled towards it, my movements labored and wretched with a pain and gratitude.

"Plelepun," I whispered. "I'm so glad you're alright. We thought we had lost you."

The Plelepun mustered a weak but reassuring smile. "Can't keep a good Plelepun down, can ya? I may be bruised, but I'm still in this fight."

Zest approached, their expression reflective to my own concern and relief.

A flicker of admiration danced in Zest's eyes as they joined us, their own wounds visible but their spirit unbroken. We shared a moment of silent solidarity. Together, we had faced formidable adversaries and emerged battered but undefeated.

Tears welled up in my eyes as I came to the full realization that my companions had survived the seemingly insurmountable odds stacked against us.

I extended a trembling paw, gently touching the Plelepun's injured trunk and another on Zest's neck. "We made it," I whispered.

---

The UvoSath rainforest stretched out before us, its vibrant foliage a kaleidoscope of reds and blues. The air was heavy with moisture, carrying the scent of earth and the sweet fragrance of exotic flowers. Crystals protruded from the ground, casting a soft, glow that shone through the dense canopy above.

We pressed forward, our footsteps cautious and deliberate, as we searched for a place to rest and heal.

Every step sent small ripples through the crystal-studded terrain, causing the ground to shimmer and sparkle in response.

Zest, led the way, their antlers adorned with vibrant blooms that seemed to hue and wither in a perpetual cycle.

"I sense a clearing up ahead," Zest spoke, their voice melodious and soothing. "It feels... different, but promising. Let us venture forth."

The Plelepun, trotted alongside me, their steps a rhythmic cadence that mirrored my own. They emitted a soft snort of agreement, their eyes and large ears scanning the surroundings with curiosity and caution.

"Yo, I could use a break," the Plelepun chimed in. "Someplace peaceful where we can patch ourselves up."

I nodded in agreement, feeling the weight of our recent battles and the toll it had taken on my body. Our journey had been arduous, filled with perils and adversaries at every turn. I wanted to rest so badly, even if it was on the spot where I stood.

As we ventured deeper into the rainforest, the colors around us grew even more vibrant. The reds and blues of the vegetation intensified, casting an enchanting hue upon the landscape.

The crystals that dotted the ground seemed to pulsate with energy, as if beckoning us towards the sanctuary we sought. Crystals... I thought back to the discarded spear that broke during the battle with the Reckiwoo. I was going to need to craft a new one, or perhaps a different weapon altogether.

We traveled onward until we stopped at a naturally made bridge, a humongous tree, fallen to connect to the other side of a great gorge in the rainforest, it was then I noticed a small ghostly creature.

It was almost the size of my current form. It had the features of a fox wearing a witch's hat… and I could not lie that I found it be one of the cutest things I had seen since being in this realm. So, I decided that it was dangerous.

Unfortunately, my experience and hunch could not have been more right as it floated over to us, expressing a smirk.

"Greetings, travelers," the ghostly fox said, its voice was rather sweet and sophisticated. Its gaze drifted from me, to Zest, and finally upon the Plelepun. It giggled as its gaze fell away from us momentarily.

The fox's eyes glimmered with a sinister glint as it continued to speak. "Oh, my, what an interesting group," it said, a sly smile forming on its ghastly visage. "A Merecritt, a Doervus, and a Plelepun, all gathered together in this vibrant rainforest. Such unique individuals, each with their own set of abilities and secrets."

My unease grew with each word it spoke. There was something about this fox's demeanor, a sense of mischief and darkness lurking beneath its cute exterior. The hairs on the back of my neck stood on end as I exchanged wary glances with Zest and the Plelepun, their unease mirroring my own.

Zest bristled, their antlers crackling with electricity as he eyed the creature warily. "Who are you?" Zest asked, the eldritch deer seemed far more edge than usual.

The ghostly fox let out a small laugh, as if amused by Zest's hostility. "I am known as Vaida," it said, floating closer to us. "And I am merely a humble inhabitant of these forests. I couldn't help but notice the three of you after your little scuffle with the Reckiwoo and the Makaqoves. Quite impressive, I must say, especially the little Merecritt."

"Never have I seen a creature within the same tier as a Reckiwoo come victorious." Vaida came to finalize their statement.

"What do you want from us?" I asked, my voice cautious.

Vaida let out a small chuckle, finding my caution amusing. "Nothing, really," it said. "I'm just here to offer some guidance and advice. This world can be quite treacherous, especially for those who are unfamiliar with its ways." Its gaze fixated intently upon me and I could not help but feel uncomfortable as it scrutinized me.

Zest remained on guard, their antlers still crackling with electricity. "What kind of advice?" Zest asked, their voice low and dangerous.

Vaida let out a small sigh, annoyed by Zest's hostility. "Oh, dear Doervus, let's ease up now, there's no need for hostility," it said, its eyes fixed on me once again.

"I'm merely here to offer a proposition, a little guidance on how to navigate these treacherous lands," it said, its voice dripping with charm. "You see, there are many secrets hidden within this rainforest alone. Secrets that only the knowledgeable can uncover and I possess such knowledge that could be of great use to you. In exchange, I ask for a small favor."

My instincts screamed at me to be cautious, to resist the allure of Vaida's promises. Yet, curiosity gnawed at me, and I found myself drawn to the mysterious creature's words. "What kind of favor?" I asked, my voice tinged with skepticism.

Vaida's smile widened. "It's a simple task. I only require your cooperation. Do that for me, and in return, I shall grant you a piece of my knowledge."

Zest's antlers crackled with even more intensity, their distrust and distraught becoming more evident. "I don't trust this creature," Zest said. "We should continue on our own path and not get involved with its schemes."

The Plelepun nodded in agreement, its normally playful demeanor replaced by a serious expression. "Yo, I got a bad feeling about this," its voice filled with caution.

Vaida's eyes glimmered with a hint of mischief as it spoke in a melodic tone. "My dear travelers, you possess such unique talents and powers. It would be a shame for them to go unnoticed, wouldn't it?"

I narrowed my eyes, suspicion creeping into my voice, but Vaida's mention of power caught my interest. "What do you mean?" I asked.

Vaida's eyes gleamed with a sinister glint, and its voice took on a more tantalizing tone. "Oh, my dear Merecritt," it purred, "you possess a power within you that you have yet to tap into. A power that could change the course of your destiny, if only you knew how to unlock it."

Vaida's eyes sparkled with a glint of mischief as it continued to speak, its words resuming to drip with sinister charm. "I can offer you the guidance you seek, the key to unlocking your true potential."

Curiosity and caution swirled within me, unsure of whether to trust this enigmatic creature. How did this creature know about the dormant power that resided within me? What did it mean by unlocking it? Does Vaida know about the Nexus?

My instincts urged me to tread carefully, to question its motives, but there was an undeniable allure in the possibility of uncovering more about my own powers.

"Elaborate. What do you know about my powers?" I asked, unable to resist the temptation of unraveling the secrets that lay dormant within me.

Vaida's ghostly form floated even closer, its eyes gleaming with an intensity that sent a chill down my spine. "I have witnessed the rise and fall of countless beings in these forests, each with their own unique gifts and destinies," it whispered, its voice hauntingly soft. "But your power, dear Merecritt, it is unlike anything I have seen before. It has the potential to reshape this realm, to bring about great change."

I exchanged a glance with Zest and the Plelepun, a silent communication passing between us.

Zest took a step forward, their antlers still crackling with electricity. "But what is the cost?" Zest interjected, their voice filled with suspicion. "There is always a price for such power and knowledge. What do you gain from this, Vaida?"

The ghostly fox grinned, revealing a row of translucent teeth. "Ah, the Doervus who now calls themselves Zest," it chuckled. "Always the voice of reason, aren't you?"

Vaida proceeded to circle around us, the area gloomed as it did. "You are correct, dear Doervus. Everything comes at a price, and the price for delving into the mysteries of these realms, Zeldritch, is not without its consequences. But for those who dare to seek the truth, to unveil such secrets, the rewards can be immeasurable."

I took a step forward, my arms folded across my chest. "But what do you want in return?" I demanded.

Vaida smirked. "Oh, nothing much," it replied with a playful tone. "Just a small favor in the future, should the opportunity arise. A simple task that you won't even notice, I assure you."

The Plelepun let out a low growl, its voice tinged with suspicion. "Yo, this don't sound right," it muttered, eyeing Vaida skeptically. "What's the catch? And why are you so interested in Aera's power?"

Vaida's grin widened, its eyes gleaming with a mixture of delight and malice. "Ah, astute observation," it mused.

"The Plelepun," it floated closer, "always inquisitive and nosy are we? As for the catch, well, let's just say that once you venture further into the treacherous depths of Zeldritch, there's no turning back from the dangers that lie within it. Not all of them are as apparent as the Reckiwoo or the Makaqoves, so it's best to be prepared. And as for my interest in Aera's [redacted], well, that's a secret I'm afraid I won't reveal just yet."

I couldn't shake off the sense of unease that settled within me. There was something unsettling about Vaida's demeanor, a darkness that lurked beneath its charming facade. I took a step back.

"I appreciate your offer, Vaida, but I think we'll pass," I said, my voice firm and resolute. "We don't need any more complications on our journey. We will stay vigilant and trust in our own strength."

Vaida's smile faltered for a moment, a glimmer of disappointment flickering in its eyes. But then, as quickly as it appeared, the disappointment was replaced by a sly grin.

"Very well," it said, its voice tinged with a hint of malice. "But remember, dear Merecritt, power can be a double-edged sword. It can save you or consume you. Choose wisely. Remember, I am always here. Should you change your mind… the offer remains: open."

With those cryptic words, Vaida dissipated into thin air, leaving behind an eerie silence that hung in the air. Relief began to wash over me.

However, obstructive thoughts remained in mind. And I suppose we had dodged a potential trap, avoiding the clutches of a being whose true intentions remained shrouded in darkness.

Turning to Zest and the Plelepun, I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding. "Let's continue to find a place to rest and heal," I suggested, my weariness overcoming my wariness. "We'll continue our journey without any unnecessary entanglements."

The Plelepun let out a relieved sigh, its calf-like eyes filled with gratitude. "Yo, that was too close," it exclaimed, its voice still tinged with apprehension.

Zest nodded in agreement, the crackling electricity around their antlers slowly diminishing. "Agreed," Zest said, their head surveilling the area around us. "We must remain vigilant and focused. The path ahead is treacherous, and we cannot afford any distractions."

Then I realized something and shuddered. The G.A.I.A…. It did not activate when it always did for every single Eldriyssal that I encountered.
