CH 33-0: Chaotic Duel; Tribal Escalation

The (Rare) Makaqove's confidence wavered as it realized the shift in the tides of our duel. Its eyes raged with fury as it bared its fangs and lunged at me with its watery chains, arms that detached, swung like nunchucks—attempting to regain control of the battle. But I was no longer a mere victim.

I met its assault head-on, utilizing my Merecritt ears in new and creative ways. My ears stretched and flexed, becoming an extension of my fighting prowess. I weaved and twisted, using them to deflect the watery chains and launch counterattacks.

Upon impact and snapping the (Rare) Makaqove's head back, the scald monkey's sneer swiftly transformed into a look of surprise and frustration.

It backed off momentarily with a mighty leap.

Reacting to this, and with a swift motion, I retrieved my crystal-tipped spear after noticing a gleam in the battlefield, its presence a familiar weight in the grasp of my ears.

The (Rare) Makaqove's watery tail lashed out, aiming to strike me with its scalding force. But this time, I was ready.

I leapt into the air, avoiding the onslaught with a graceful flip. In mid-flight, I unleashed my [Melodious Shout]. The harmonious sound waves rippled through the air, disrupting the Makaqove's balance and momentarily disorienting it.

Capitalizing on the creature's momentary vulnerability, I channeled my azure lightning through my spear, infusing each strike with electrifying power. The crackling energy coursed through the weapon, intensifying its impact as I slashed and thrust at the (Rare) Makaqove, aiming for its weak points.

But the (Rare) Makaqove was quick to react. It countered my attacks with fluid movements, its watery chains deflecting my strikes, and its scorching fists retaliating with stinging strikes.

Undeterred, I endured and adapted my fighting style, utilizing my Merecritt ears as both defense and offense. I deftly dodged the Makaqove's blows, using my ears to block and redirect its attacks.

I lunged forward with my spear, striking at the gaps in the creature's defenses. Azure lightning crackled along the weapon's length, adding an electrifying bite to my attacks. The (Rare) Makaqove recoiled, its smug expression replaced with a flicker of surprise.

But I wasn't done yet. As the (Rare) Makaqove attempted to regain its footing, I tapped into my Merecritt form's latent potential and let my ears take charge. With swift movements, I utilized the unique capabilities of my ears, deflecting the (Rare) Makaqove's strikes and even landing a few unexpected counterattacks.

As the (Rare) Makaqove lunged towards me once again, its watery tail became a deadly weapon, whipping through the air with incredible speed and precision. I anticipated its movements, sidestepping and narrowly avoiding its strikes. But the Makaqove's agility and mastery over water made it a formidable opponent, and I could feel the weight of its power bearing down on me.

With the stakes raised, I needed to swiftly adapt and think creatively. And as a sudden realization struck me, an epiphany raced through my mind—urging me to rely even more on my Merecritt form.

Seizing the opportunity, I lunged forward boldly, employing a new tactic and fighting style using my long, stretchable ears. I twisted and contorted them, ensnaring the limbs of the Rare Makaqove and restricting its movements.

In a desperate attempt to break free, the Rare Makaqove thrashed about, but I held on tightly, refusing to release my grip. As it struggled, I spotted an opening to strike.

With a fierce chomp, I sank my teeth into its shoulder, tearing through flesh and sinew: [Cruel Chomp]. The Rare Makaqove let out a cry of pain, its arrogance now replaced by seething rage. However, my assault wasn't over.

Despite the Rare Makaqove's relentless thrashing and its vigorous efforts to shake me off, I maintained my firm hold, my teeth digging into its shoulder.

Drawing from the azure lightning coursing through my veins, I summoned a surge of energy, unleashing a powerful wave of electricity directly into the Rare Makaqove's body—an ability inherited from Zest: the [Doom Zap:Bolt]! Writhing and convulsing, the Tribe Commander of the Makaqoves sizzled under the onslaught of my lightning.

In quick succession, I concentrated my energy into a potent orb known as the [MereSphere]. Infusing it with my lightning-infused power where it crackled and grew in size while the Rare Makaqove thrashed beneath me, desperate to dislodge me from its back.

However, my tenacity remained unwavering. With a forceful exhale, the orb shot forth from my mouth, hurtling towards the Rare Makaqove with devastating force.

The Rare Makaqove's eyes widened in realization, but it was too late to evade. The [MereSphere] struck its mark, exploding upon impact and enveloping the creature in a dazzling spectacle of light and energy. The blast sent the Rare Makaqove sprawling, its body singed and charred.

The Rare Makaqove now laid motionless on the ground, its sneer replaced by a defeated expression.

Breathing heavily, I stood over the fallen Makaqove, my heart pounding with a mix of exhaustion and triumph. Despite its power, I somehow found a way to overcome it. I had used every tool at my disposal, from my spear and [Lightning] to my Merecritt ears and the [Melodious Shout].

I turned my attention to Zest and the Plelepun, who had fought valiantly to protect themselves in my absence. We had proven ourselves against the Makaqove's and Barbapt's might, but the battle was far from over.

As the smoke cleared and the defeated Rare Makaqove lay motionless on the ground, a profound stillness fell upon the battlefield. I noticed that the remaining Makaqoves, once filled with aggression and confidence, now hesitated, their gazes shifting from their fallen leader to me, and to the looming threat of the Barbapt. It was as if they had witnessed a force they had not anticipated.

The sight of their once-powerful leader lying defeated before them had shaken their confidence. Their watery chains and scorching fists trembled with uncertainty, and their piercing blue eyes flickered with an assortment of emotions.

I could feel their eyes upon me, a mix of awe, respect, and perhaps a hint of fear. The moment was charged with anticipation, as if the very air crackled with the recognition of a formidable adversary. The Makaqoves, once focused solely on our destruction alongside the Barbapt, seemed to pause, their aggression momentarily redirected.

Wordlessly, they began to retreat, their attention shifting from us to the approaching horde of Barbapt. The air crackled with tension as the two rival species locked eyes, their animosity simmering beneath the surface. The Makaqoves, though fierce and agile, recognized the ruthless assault of the Barbapt and knew that their own survival hung in the balance.

But as my attention shifted to the Barbapt, my attention was quickly drawn to another sight.

In that instant, a decision formed in my mind. I recognized the opportunity that presented itself—a chance to turn the tide of this chaotic battlefield between the Makaqove and Great Barbapt. It was a risky move, but I knew I had to act swiftly. I leaped into action, my azure lightning crackling around me as I sprinted towards the embattled trio.

With a determined stride, I advanced towards the struggling combatants, my spear held firmly in my hand. The Makaqoves and the Great Barbapt were so engrossed in their own struggle that they failed to notice my approach. It was a moment of advantage that I had to capitalize on.

As I neared the fray, I felt a surge of energy welling up within me. Azure lightning crackled around me. And with a burst of speed, I lunged forward, my spear aimed at the Great Barbapt's exposed flank.

The strike connected with a resounding impact, causing the Great Barbapt to recoil in pain. Sensing an opportunity, the two Makaqoves turned their attention towards me, their previous animosity momentarily forgotten. Together, we formed an unlikely alliance—a temporary truce born out of necessity.

The Great Barbapt, caught off guard by my sudden intervention, momentarily faltered. It snarled; its eyeless gaze fixated on me. I could feel its raw power pulsating in the air, but I refused to be intimidated.

"HA!", I charged forward, my spear glowing with azure lightning. The two Makaqoves, quick to capitalize on the Barbapt's momentary confusion, added their own attacks to mine. Together, we struck at the Great Barbapt with a flurry of blows.

The Great Barbapt, caught off balance, faltered for a moment before retaliating with a powerful strike of its own. Its massive frame shook the ground as it charged towards us, its claws gleaming in the light. I could feel the force of its impact before it even reached me, and I braced myself for the impact.

Tired, exhausted? I did not care as I used my spear to block its strike and I ducked under its sinewy vine-like arms ending with razor blades for claws. The Great Barbapt's claws still tore into my shoulder, I felt a sharp pain spreading through my body. My muscles strained against the force of the blow, but I refused to give in.

The two (Assault Commander) Makaqoves struck at it, in that moment haste. One struck hard on the Great Barbapt's side with their heated fist, the other lashed out with their water-structured tail which left a scalding mark the Great Barbapt's leg.

Whereas I darted throughout the battlefield, around the Great Barbapt as I jabbed at it with lightning infused spear strikes. The Great Barbapt pounced with its muscled legs, and it twisted its large body and swung its lengthy sinewy vine-like arms in a circular motion to knock us back. But we were prepared this time.

The (Assault Commander) Makaqoves used their agility to dodge the attack, while I held my ground, my body crackling with azure lightning, my spear glowing with power.

As the Great Barbapt landed, I seized the opportunity to strike. I leaped into the air; my spear aimed at its chest. The Great Barbapt swung its claws, but I was too fast, and with a swift movement, I twisted my body to avoid the Great Barbapt's counterattack, my spear still aimed at its chest.

The weapon glowed with azure lightning, intensifying the impact of my strike. The Great Barbapt let out a deafening roar of pain as the spear pierced its flesh, particles expelling out from it as the creature stumbled backward, its massive frame swaying.

With my spear at the ready, and the Makaqoves by my side, I charged forward fearlessly. The Great Barbapt, caught off guard, made an effort to retaliate, but we were too quick for it. Together, we launched a blitz attack, striking at its weak points with all of our might.

The Great Barbapt snarled, flailing wildly as it attempted to defend against our relentless assault while also blowing out its dreadful smoky cosmic-esque breath. But we were too fierce, too determined. Our attacks landed with deadly precision, striking at its vital points and weakening it with each passing moment.

Filled with rage, the Great Barbapt screeched and with a tremendous burst of strength, it lashed out with a devastating blow, striking one of the Makaqoves with incredible force. Rending through its form in that moment.

The (Assault Commander) Makaqove fell to the ground, its body still and unmoving. In that moment, a fierce rage coursed through me. I had come too far to fail now. With a great roar, I charged at the Great Barbapt; my spear held high.

The Great Barbapt raised its arms to defend itself, however…

The remaining (Assault Commander) Makaqove lunged forward, its watery arm chains soared, swirling around the Great Barbapt's limbs, limiting its movements. I could sense the fear and desperation in the Great Barbapt's snarls, its once-ferocious demeanor now transformed into one of panic.

Seizing the opportunity, I charged forward with a fierce cry, summoning the last of my strength. My spear glowed with a blinding azure light as I launched myself at the Great Barbapt, striking with a powerful thrust. The blow landed, piercing the Great Barbapt's chest and releasing a burst of energy—a great burst of lightning and raw force punctured a massive hole in its upper body.

With a deafening roar, the Great Barbapt's body convulsed, its muscles straining against the force of the impact. Its shrieks filled the air, echoing across the battlefield. And then, as suddenly as it had begun, the Great Barbapt fell silent, its body collapsing in a heap on the ground. Its great form dispersing into particles.

Breathing heavily, I stood over the fallen Great Barbapt, my spear still glowing and crackling with azure lightning. The remaining (Assault Commander) Makaqove, once my enemy, now stood beside me, their eyes flickering with what appeared to have been awe and respect.

"By the Abyss…!" The Makaqove said under its breath.

'Zest… Plelepun...' I thought briskly to my comrades.

In the midst of the chaos, I glanced at Zest and the Plelepun to discover they were rushing towards me. Relief washed over me.

Despite that... I could see that the battle still raged on, with the sounds of howls, snapping, and whipping resonating throughout the forest. The defeated creatures of both species lay scattered across the ground, their once-mighty forms now reduced to lifeless husks.

My attention then shifted over to the fallen (Assault Commander) Makaqove, I felt a pang of sadness and respect. They had fought valiantly alongside me… and their sacrifice would not be forgotten.

Taking a deep breath, I sheathed my spear and turned to the surviving Makaqove, who had now lowered its defensive stance. It regarded me with a newfound respect, its piercing eyes of blue and red shining with admiration.

"You fought well, Merecritt," it said, its voice laced with surprise. "I never thought I'd see a Merecritt fight with such skill and ferocity."

I nodded. "I had to do what was necessary to survive," I said, taking a moment to catch my breath. "I never imagined I'd be fighting side by side with a Makaqove, but I'm glad we could put our differences aside and work together." I smirked.

The Makaqove nodded, a hint of a smile flickering across its face. "A temporary alliance, born out of necessity," it said, its tone now laced with respect.

I could sense that they were no longer a threat—at least not for now.

'G.A.I.A.?' I asked the invisible entity.

I took a deep breath, feeling a wave of exhaustion wash over me. The battle had been grueling, and I could feel every muscle in my body screaming for rest. But even as I stood there, gazing at the fallen Great Barbapt, I knew that our fight was far from over.

As I turned my attention towards the horizon, I could see the remaining Barbapts closing in, their forms ominous and predatory. The Makaqoves, once consumed with animosity towards us, now gave their sole attention to the Barbapt, their watery chains and scorching fists at the ready.

I turned to the (Assault Commander) Makaqove. "Thank you for fighting alongside me," I said once again, my voice filled with genuine sincerity.

The (Assault Commander) Makaqove nodded, a flicker of a smile crossing their lips. "It was an honor to fight with you," they replied. "We may be enemies, but we all share a common goal—to survive in this harsh world."

With that, we parted ways, as I stood there catching my breath while the (Assault Commander) Makaqove swiftly headed back into the battlefield to join its companions.

However, the chaotic battlefield—still reeling from the clash between the Makaqoves and the Barbapt—was suddenly interrupted by the arrival of a new and unfamiliar creature.

My eyes widened in surprise as I witnessed the sight of the Reckiwoo, a diminutive being, charging headfirst into the fray.

With a wild grin plastered across its face, the Reckiwoo unleashed its unyielding strength upon the Barbapt, effortlessly knocking the intimidating creatures around as if they were mere playthings— these same Barbapt were quickly confirmed to be within the F+ rank, common and uncommon variants by the G.A.I.A.

With an exuberant leap, the Reckiwoo continued its assault against the Barbapt, its compact frame propelled it forward with astonishing force, each strike landing with tremendous power and leaving the Barbapt in disarray, battered and broken.

The Barbapt, who had once struck fear into my heart, were relentlessly getting knocked around with ease by this pint-sized force of nature. The Reckiwoo's reckless onslaught was accompanied by gleeful laughter, as if the chaos and destruction were its greatest joy.

However, the Makaqoves, already seething with fury against the Barbapt, were not amused by the appearance of this reckless interloper. Snarls of rage escaped their throats as they eyed the grinning Reckiwoo with a mixture of fear and resentment. It was as if the chaotic nature of the Reckiwoo clashed with their own calculated and strategic approach to battle.

The Reckiwoo, seemingly oblivious to the brewing tension, continued its manic assault, urging the Makaqoves to join the fight with its frenzied shouts. Its joyful demeanor, the sheer delight it took in the chaos and devastation, only served to further enrage the Makaqoves—their expressions twisting into a blend of fear, caution, and anger as they confronted this new and unpredictable opponent.

The Reckiwoo seemed to revel in their rage, shouting in a manic tone, goading them to fight with wild abandon.

Zest rushed to my side, their antlers crackling with residual electricity. "Aera, we must retreat now!" Zest exclaimed urgently, "This battle has escalated beyond our control. The Reckiwoo's presence only adds more chaos to the mix!"

I immediately took the Doom Deer's words to consideration and we dashed off.

As we neared the edge of the forest, I turned back for one last look. The Makaqoves and Barbapts were still engaged in a fierce battle, their bodies writhing and twisting in chaotic clusters; the manic shouts of the Reckiwoo echoed behind us.

My worries were that of confusion. That was until a Great Barbapt flew above us and crashed with a thud. I blinked in horror to witness the upper half of its body had been rendered to nothing but a void.

We can no longer be a part of this—we had to escape.
