Chapter 32: Insincere Birkin

Gluia Town, North Gate.

A town defense force has just finished off the Native Demons blocking the road and is hurrying to the rescue. The sound of armor clashing mixes with the heavy sound of footsteps.

At the north city gate, the bodies of dwarf warriors lie in all directions. The blood on the ground has not yet dried, and the air is filled with a pungent, bloody smell.

Looking at their dead comrades at the north city gate, the soldiers of this town defense force could not help but feel very sad!

In the distance, the huge and ugly Morrigan was eating a dwarf warrior alive. Her hideous face and bloody actions made the captain of this town defense force furious!

“Damn it, this ugly guy!”

“Sabot, you two, take your respective squads and flank them. We will personally kill this monster and avenge them!”

Sabot, who had been promoted to squad commander not long ago, felt that he could not let his captain down in such a critical time of war.

Sabot gripped the weapon in his hands, nodded forcefully, and then turned to his squad members and shouted, “Brothers, follow me!”

Sabot charged at the front, his steps firm and powerful, while shouting loudly to try to boost morale!

Strangely, Sabot's shouts echoed in the air but received no response.

Sabot, puzzled both mentally and physically, looked back!

To his horror, he discovered that the team members who had just been following him closely...

Had, in fact, disappeared!

Sabot's eyes instantly widened, and his mouth opened slightly. He couldn't understand what was happening in front of him.

What the hell is going on?

Just as Sabot felt a wave of doubt and worry, a few small shadows appeared next to him.

At first, the shadows were like faint ink stains, quietly spreading across the ground.

As the shadow gradually expanded, several loud thuds sounded one after the other.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

The sound was like a sledgehammer striking the ground, raising a cloud of dust.

Several bloody and mangled bodies exploded one after the other around Sabot, blood and flesh splattered everywhere, and the strong smell of blood instantly filled the air.

A few drops of warm blood splashed onto Sabot's face, and the touch made his stomach churn.

Sabot looked up in horror, and the puzzle was solved.

What came into view were several Gyrus Demons, flapping their wings and opening their sandworm-like mouths, emitting a sickening stench. Their eyes flashed an evil red light, and they grinned at Sabot.

The smile was like a taunt from hell, and it instantly filled Sabot's body with fear.

Sabot's body shot backward like an arrow, his feet flustered and hurried. His heart was beating frantically as if it were about to jump out of his chest.

The Gyrus Demons were extremely fast, and in the blink of an eye, two of them had already swooped down in front of Sabot. Their huge claws grabbed Sabot's shoulders, and their sharp nails dug deep into his flesh.

Sabot felt a sharp pain in his shoulders, and his body was involuntarily lifted off the ground of the town. The wind whistled past his ears, and his hair was blown messy.

In the air, Sabot looked down. The other dwarf warriors in this town's defense force that had arrived had also been surrounded by more Native Demons and Shadow Demons. They were like prey trapped in a trap, with nowhere to escape!

The Demons were snarling and their eyes gleamed with bloodlust as they enjoyed the brutal hunt. The

Warriors of the town defense force fought back, but their resistance was so feeble in the face of a large number of Demons. They had become fish on a chopping board, waiting only to be slaughtered.

Not only here, but dwarf warriors were being slaughtered in other places as well.

Sabot in the sky looked down at the once familiar town, which had now turned into a hellish scene. The houses had been destroyed, the streets were full of the corpses and blood of dwarf warriors, and the cries of the townsfolk mingled with the roars of the demons.

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

It turned out that Gluia Town was already hopeless!

The demons had long since divided the town into areas, hunting the townsfolk and dwarf warriors in them!

Sabot's eyes became vacant, and he accepted his fate!

They were just corpses that were still struggling...

The battle in Gluia Town did not last long, at least much shorter than a traditional siege.

Although the dwarf warriors resisted until the last moment of their lives, defending their homeland with their lives and blood.

However, from Caelan's perspective, their resistance was foolish and laughable. He deliberately avoided Edgar's elite force, and the remaining so-called town defense force in Gluia Town brought him even less fun than the Centaur warriors he encountered at the beginning.

These “uninteresting” dwarves ultimately made Caelan choose to end the battle early.

...

“Oh my god, what happened here?”

Birkin's eyes scanned the surrounding ruins, his eyes wide with horror, his voice trembling as it forced its way out.

Birkin, who had barely survived, stumbled onto the street. Robert, who was by his side, also followed silently, his lips pursed tightly, not saying a word.

At the moment, they were not safe, because behind them were several impatient Native Demons, driven by Caelan's orders.

Robert glanced behind him at the Native Demons, and a flash of helplessness and anger crossed his eyes. He sighed deeply. Although he could dispose of these monsters, it was obviously useless. Gluia Town had already been breached!

Not only the Birkin duo but also the other townsfolk were driven by the Demons to the central square of Gluia Town!

The townsfolk's faces were full of fear and despair, and their clothes were in tatters.

At the moment, there were hundreds of the town defense force's dwarf warrior corpses strewn across the square!

The bodies were lying all over the place, some of them unrecognizable from being torn apart by the demons, while others were still in fighting positions. Their weapons were scattered around, covered in blood.

The townsfolk looked at the bodies of the warriors who had once protected them, their hearts filled with grief. Tears flowed uncontrollably, and their cries echoed through the square.

“Oh no, my poor Sabot!”

In the corner of the square, Birkin saw the body of his distant relative Sabot and pounced on it. His hands gently stroked Sabot's mangled body.

This guy, who was still full of life and energy half an hour ago, was now unrecognizable due to the fall from a great height. His body was mixed in with the other corpses of the city's defenders.

Since Sabot's body was in such a state, how did Birkin recognize it?

The answer is actually not hard to guess.

Earlier, when Birkin saw that the corpse in front of him was wearing an expensive dark gold ring, his eyes lit up instantly.

This dark gold ring is a family heirloom of Sabot's and is worth a thousand pieces of gold!

Birkin's greedy eyes fixed on the ring, and his heartbeat quickened involuntarily.

Whether or not the corpse was Sabot, he now called him Sabot.

A trace of joy appeared on his face, but it was quickly replaced by sadness. Then, with both hands, he pretended to stroke the corpse, but in fact, reached for the ring and secretly removed it.

Birkin was still crying, and although his sobs sounded a little insincere, he was still making false vows.

“My poor Sabot, I swear by the diamonds and gold coins that I will definitely avenge you!”

“I am implacably opposed to these damned monsters!”

Robert, who was standing nearby, couldn't help but frown at the sight of the insincere, money-grubbing Birkin pretending to cry.
