Chapter 4: Ghost of Terrabe

Bloom 842 -In the Territory Terrabe

"Alright kid, today I want you to go all out. Don't pull any punches and don't worry about hurting me. You got it?" Sahn asked from across the dew covered field. Tai yawned in response as he groggily watched a herd of buffalo graze atop a nearby hill. Annoyed, Sahn tossed a rock at the young prince but instead of hitting him it gently orbited around him. "Yeah I heard you." Tai replied after finishing his second yawn. Tai made a slight nod in Sahn's direction and the rock that orbited around him shot right at Sahn who easily caught it. "Good. Now began!" Tai made a beckoning gesture with his hand and Sahn's body began to slide through the wet grass towards him. As Sahn got closer the speed at which he was pulled towards Tai increased. Tai readied himself for a kick but right as his leg was going to make contact, Sahn vanished. Tai looked around but didn't see the old man anywhere. "It's a field. Where could he hide?" Tai said to himself. He looked back at the buffalo who were all now watching him. Suddenly Tai felt the impact of a kick to his chest, the force of which knocked him off his feet. Laying in the grass on his back he closed his eyes and listened. The Terrabeian countryside was still and quiet. He could feel the pull of the buffalo on the hill, he could feel the pull of a pair of birds that flew by, he could even feel the tiny almost nonexistent pull of the hundreds of insects hidden in the grass around him but he couldn't feel Sahn. Tai climbed to his feet and looked around for a second before feeling another kick to his back which caused him to stumble forward. He whipped around and even though he saw no one the force of a fist connecting with his face put him back into the grass. "Where are you!?" Tai yelled standing up once more, his frustration growing. "Right here." Sahn answered, appearing beside Tai already mid punch. Tai managed to block the attack and upon making contact with Sahn increased his weight to the point that Sahn's body sunk into the ground and he was unable to move. "Now you're not going anywhere." Tai announced victoriously while preparing another kick. Sahn smiled and Tai kicked nothing but air as Sahn vanished again. "How are you doing that?" Tai yelled out in frustration. But instead of an answer Tai was knocked unconscious by the force of an uppercut to his chin.

Tai's eyes slowly opened to the sight of white clouds drifting slowly above him. He sat up to find Sahn sitting on a log eating some kind of seeds and watching the buffalo from earlier still graze on the hillside. "What happened?" Tai asked while rubbing his chin. "You lost." Sahn answered, spitting a shell from his mouth. "Yeah because you were doing some trick to disappear." "Is that what I was doing?" Sahn replied. Annoyed, Tai took a second before answering. "Well then what were you doing?" Sahn smiled, "what would be the fun in telling you?" Before Tai could reply one of the buffalo let out a frightened bellow and the entire herd began to stampede down the hill towards them. Sahn stood up and gave the lead animal a glare and it as well as the rest of the herd avoided them as they fled from whatever startled them. "What spooked them?" Tai pondered as his eyes searched the hilltop. Then he spotted it. A red peacock stood atop the hill and stared directly at the two of them. Tai felt a presence that was similar to his mother's but it felt like there were thousands of her standing on that hill. An oppressive sensation washed over him that forced him to take a step back. From all things he could feel a pull almost like a light tug coming from them, but this thing pushed on him from every direction. Being overwhelmed by this immense pressure he managed to glance at Sahn who, contrary to him, had a wide grin painted on his face. His posture practically begged the bird to challenge him. The Peacock looked down at them for a moment more before turning and disappearing from sight just as suddenly as it appeared.
