Chapter 3: What Kind Of World Is This?

Still awed by what this world looked like, I turned my head left and right to take in the view. With a huge forest surrounding the street on the left side and to the right grassland, we slowly walked on the street towards the school.

“By the way, how big is your school?”

“It’s quite huge. There’s a school library, two playgrounds, one soccer field and one basketball field.”

“That’s quite huge then. How far are we away from it?”

“It’s just around the corner.”

Indeed it was just around the corner, but what I saw next was simply horrifying. The whole school and the other buildings were simply gone. As if…

“This was bombed, Emiko?”

“Y—yeah”

Emiko was visibly quite in shock.

Just what happened here? Magic?

I took Emiko by hand.

“We gotta go.”

I simply ran back to the direction we came from. However, when I thought we were near the street lamp, there was nothing to see except for a street and the forest continuing.

“Emiko. We’re at the right place, right?”

“Emiko?”

When I looked at her I noticed she was unconscious, barely holding onto my hand.

Shit. What should I do?

I slowly tried to lay her down, resting her head on my legs. As beautiful as she looked like, it was a terrifying view to see her unconscious.

“Emiko. Can you hear me?”

Emiko’s breathing changed. It made me feel like as if she was reacting to the sound. I the side of her nose with both of my fingers, making her unable to breathe for a second.

“Melo?!”

Her sudden reaction made my body jerk. I thought unconscious people would wake up more softly.

“You were unconscious there. Is everything alright?”

“Yeah. It must be a spell.”

“A spell? So this world has magic?"

“Yeah.”

“Cool, can you show me some?”

“Well, right now it’s not the right time, Melo.”

“Sorry.”

She was right. From what she told me, it seemed like someone or something made her fall asleep. If this thing is nearby, we gotta move.

“Found it!”

She produced a fireball and shot it at what looked like a rabbit.

“It was an Evil Rabbiter.”

“Evil Rabbiter? Because they bite?”

“Yeah, and you don’t want to get bitten. They’re poisonous.”

“Scary!”

“Don’t worry, there’s not many of them.”

These words made me feel a bit safer. Still, I couldn’t shake off that we were out of danger…
