33.5 Sunshine's Cat Café

33.5 Sunshine's Cat Café

Yui and Izuku stood outside the cat café that Yui had first taken him to when they met, and sure, Izuku had been there throughout the years in disguises, but today…today they were going to finally see Yuki again, without anything to hide behind. It’d been some time since Hijack had been ‘pardoned’ from the Hero Commission, and Yui didn’t have to worry about people calling in the police just from going outside, and they had their dads there with them, it should go fine, right?

“Come on, kiddos, you can’t just stand here all day.” Yamada gave them each a gentle nudge at their backs. Yui was stiff as she opened the door, walking inside with Izuku at her back.

“I’ll be out in a moment!” The call came from the kitchen, luckily they were the only ones in the café, having planned their visit between the lull of lunch and dinner. The two ex-vigilantes stood by the door, tense as they waited for her to come out.

“You’ll be okay.” Aizawa’s gruff voice was soft behind them, trying to be reassuring, “We’re right behind you. If she gets angry, we can just leave.”

“Sorry about that, I was just finishing up some chocolate chip muffins, so they’re nice and fresh if you want…any…” The woman walked out of the kitchen, large brown eyes widening as they fell on her visitors.

Yui couldn’t help but think that she still looked the same as when she’d last seen her. Yuki was tall for a woman, and a bit on the heavy side, with light tan skin, a mole on her left cheek and wavy dark purple hair she knew was dyed. She had on light blue jeans and a lavender t-shirt under a yellow apron.

They stared at each other for a while, the ticking of the clock almost seemed like it was echoing in the room. Yui swallowed thickly, her mouth dry, “Hi Yuki…I-“

She was interrupted when the woman ducked under the counter to pull the two of them into a crushing bear hug. “You’re okay! Kami! You brats had me so worried!” Yui’s eyes widened when she felt wet droplets slid down her neck. Her own eyes started to fill with tears that slipped free, she didn’t even realize how much the woman’s reaction would affect her.

“I’m sorry…” Her voice cracked before she wrapped her arms around her, returning the hug.

“Do you realize what I thought when I saw the news? That the snarky little girl who came in for muffins and cat cuddles was branded a villain? Then you and the green bean just vanished! I thought…I thought the worst.” She sniffled, and the teens both let out little squeaks when they were pulled down to the floor. “Why didn’t you come to me? I could have helped you two…”

Yui couldn’t help but pull back to look up at her with wide eyes, “I was a rank-A villain! Why would you help me?”

She yelped when she chopped the top of her head, brown eyes giving her a watery glare, “Because I know you weren’t a bad kid! What villain would feed a little kid, stress herself over him, or come visit a cat café for cat cuddles? Or take all my ribbing? Kami, Yui, the cats always loved you, they’re the best judges of characters. You have no idea how relieved I was when I recognized Izuku buying coffee beans one day.”

“You recognized me?!” Izuku squeaked out, emerald eyes wide and shining with tears.

“It took a while…I’ll admit that. But I saw some green curls poking out from your wig one day when one of the cats jumped on your head. And you always bought the same stuff, the things that were Yui’s favorites. Come on, I’m not that stupid.” She huffed, a small smile on her face as she looked at them.

“Why didn’t you say anything?” He asked, sniffling when Yuki pulled a handkerchief from her apron, drying his eyes.

“I was waiting for you to come to me…I was afraid…if I confronted you that you would stop coming in. And then I wouldn’t know anything about you.” She blinked when she heard a sniffle that didn’t come from the two kids, looking up to see Yamada all teary-eyed. “Oh, um…please tell me you’re with them?” She whispered to the kids, “If they aren’t, distract them while I get my rolling pin.”

“Yuki!” Izuku gasped out, giggling a bit before he covered his mouth.

“What? A little amnesia won’t hurt anybody.”

“I think the bumps on their heads would, though.” Yui grinned, “But they’re with us. Meet our adoptive dads, Hizashi Yamada and Shouta Aizawa.”

“Oh phew…I mean, hi! I can’t believe my second favorite customers adopted you two! That’s great! That’s great, right? They seemed really nice whenever they came in for date nights…”

“Yeah, it’s great! They’re super nice!” Izuku grinned.

“Oh good, I don’t have to fight for some custody, right? Like, it doesn’t have to be official, but I’ll make an amazing older sister. You can come to the café whenever you want, I’ll bribe you with coffee and muffins.” She wriggled her eyebrows, “Plus, the cats love company.”

Aizawa snorted softly, “You were just planning on assaulting us with a rolling pin.”

“Hey, that was minutes ago, it’s in the past! Plus, I didn’t do it, and you have no proof.” She huffed out, before she stood up to lock the door and flip the sign to closed. “Okay, you gotta tell me everything. Oh Kami, you’re not such a bean sprout anymore, Izuku! You finally got some meat on those bones.” She squished his cheeks as he giggled. She smiled before she turned to the adults, “Oh, I’m Yuki Amai, thank you for looking after these two. Kami, I can’t believe my favorite couple actually adopted you.”

“They’re your favorite couple?” Yui asked, standing up for the floor and helping Izuku to his feet.

“Yep! I mean, Eraserhead and Present Mic in my café on dates, I was internally freaking out.” She grinned.

“You recognized me?” Aizawa raised an eyebrow.

“Oh yeah! You probably don’t remember, but you actually stopped someone from mugging me years ago. Like when I was nineteen, so yeah, I recognized you when you started to come in for coffee. You don’t exactly look different than your hero persona.” She chuckled, “But anyway! You have to tell me what you two have been up to these past years! Give me all the details.”

Yui and Izuku chuckled as they all sat down in the booth, Yuki going to fill two mugs with coffee, one with green tea and one hot chocolate, handing them to her guests as she pulled up a chair, her eyes bright with curiosity.

Yui started with the explanation of her parents, the night they’d had to run, moving to another apartment before they went into what they’d been up to for the past years. Aizawa and Yamada pitching in where they could. By the time they finally caught up with the present, the sun was setting.

“Holy crap…” Yuki had her hands in her hair, her eyes wide as she stared at them. Izuku biting his lip as he looked up at her bashfully. “I’m kinda torn…on one hand, you two are little bad-asses…on the other: what the fuck were you thinking?! You could have been killed!”

“But we weren’t…” Izuku rubbed the back of his neck.

“Well, we aren’t vigilantes anymore. So it won’t happen again.” Yui said, fidgeting a bit when brown eyes bore into her.

“Good! You better not be sneaking out and causing trouble for your dads.” She huffed before she grinned. “You know, I still have all the pictures I took of you two. You better come in often so I can take more. Oh, and to test out my recipes of course.”

“You have pictures? Can we see?!” Hizashi smiled wide, pulling out his phone, “I can show you the ones I have on my phone of them,”

“Oooh, I love bribery, I’ll send you mine if you send me yours.” Yuki grinned as she pulled out her phone to exchange numbers with the blonde.

Yui groaned, “Oh Kami, please don’t.” Only to be ignored as the two were going over different pictures and cooing over them.

“You know how Zashi is. You should have expected this.” Aizawa didn’t bother to hide his grin at the teen’s embarrassment.

“Sho! Look how small they were!”

“Hah! Are you two hung upside down with his capture weapon?”
