The Harmony Guild is situated in a high mountainous area. The forest is large and considered part of the 98% uninhabitable territory of Arkodia.
Harmony's inner section rests on a flat mountain. This results in beautiful views around the middle section's ledges. Accordingly, wooden fences were built to ensure no one fell off. These fences still stand.
Emily sits on a patch of grass behind a fence, hugging her knees. She watches the river flow far below. The sunset over the mountains causes a shade blanket to cover the river and nature. Rustles in the bush startle her.
Kiran stumbles out of the bush. "Emily! I found you. I almost thought Mehaki was going to have to save me. This is quite far." He walks up to Emily.
"Kiran? What are you doing here? I thought you were sleeping."
"I woke up yesterday. Anu gave me some strong medicine. My body feels great!" Kiran sits next to Emily. "Here. Mehaki told me to bring this for you." He hands her the packet.
"Oh. Thank you." She puts it aside and goes back to hugging her knees.
Kiran takes in the view. "Whoa. This is beautiful," thinks Kiran. His heart beats fast. "Why does my throat feel so sore?"
"I didn't think you and Easton were coming back," says Emily. This catches Kiran off guard.
"What? Why?"
"Because you two went to Sharmeija. Joseff told me. I was waiting for you two for class. I thought you both would join another guild… because of me."
"Huh? That's not true. Why would you think that?"
"Why? I know how Easton feels about me. I can see you're anxious around me too. I know how everyone feels around me…" Emily hugs her legs tighter. "Even if I'm not the main reason, I'm always a reason."
Kiran looks at Emily. He tries to speak, but words are caught in his mouth.
"See? There's a change in your heartbeat. Your left arm feels tight too. And your stomach is not normal."
Kiran grabs his chest, then his arm and his stomach. Everything she says is perfectly correct. "Huh? How did you know?"
"Sigh. Because of my dumb gift." Emily spreads her fingers. Her eyes focus on her hand. "People call it Copycat. I can copy the physical movements of others. But I can't do anything by myself." She stares at her fingertips. "It causes me to know how people feel. I mean, the body reacts in specific ways when feeling something. It's not hard to notice…"
The voices of insults flow through Emily's head. Loser, freak, useless. Nobody. "That's the one that hurts the most. Because I am nobody."
"That's so cool! So if I did something, you'd follow it perfectly?"
"Yes. But it's not that cool."
Kiran peers at Emily's hand and sticks his hand out. "Put your arm behind your back."
Emily looks confused at Kiran but does as he says. "Sure."
Kiran puts his arm behind him as well. "Okay! So you can activate your gift now?"
"Yeah."
Kiran quickly pulls his arm out and shows the number 2. Emily's arm does the same. "Whoa!"
"It's not that impressive."
The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
"But I can't freely activate my gift! Wait wait." Kiran puts his arm behind his back and does it again. And again. And again. Each time Emily has the same number. He even shows a number on his other hand, which Emily indicates.
"Aha! I thought I had you!"
Emily tries to hold it back, but giggles. "Fingers are easy Kiran. I can even tell which number you will show before you show it. Muscles are programmed to move in the same way. Before you bring your fingers up, I feel the muscles twitch in my hand." She grabs Kiran's hand. "That reminds me. I feel your muscle not firing properly here." Emily massages his hand.
Kiran flinches but tries to stay still. "Dang, that hurts! Look strong Kiran!"
Emily finishes massaging it. "There. It probably formed because your hand was not relaxed when you were asleep. Sorry, I didn't check on you. I would've picked it up."
Kiran flexes his hand. He balls it into a fist before stretching it out again. "Wow! That feels much better."
"That's how I help Anu. Since I know how muscles should move, I can feel where there are problems with my own body. With you, I noticed some of your fingers were delayed when you showed them."
"But everything felt normal to me."
"Yeah, our bodies are good with that."
The two sit in silence for a bit. Kiran notices Emily seems more cheerful, but not at all like how she was when he arrived at Harmony.
A memory triggers Kiran's mind – one where people around him are sad and he does something to change that.
"Oh! I have an idea!" Kiran jumps up. "Emily! Stand up, please. Let's dance!"
"Huh? Why?"
"I recently received advice to trust my body. And right now, I'm trusting it! Can you feel it?"
Emily activates her gift and thinks, "He's right. His body feels calm. That anxiousness is away. It feels nice. Not like how my body usually feels."
"Come on! Trust me, Emily."
She giggles again. "You're determined about this. Fine." She stands up.
They move a bit further away from the fence. Kiran lifts his arms to his chest and rotates his hands in circles.
"Kiran? What's this?" questions Emily, who's copying his movements.
"Just warming up." Kiran closes his eyes and thinks, "So what can I do that might look cool? Hmm…" Images of past experiences flash through Kiran's mind. First fighting, "No… too aggressive." Then running, "That doesn't feel right." Consus and his movements come into his mind. The way he dodged, ducked and manoeuvred.
Kiran opens his eyes. "That's it!"
"What's it? HEY!"
Kiran mimics Consus' actions. He doesn't have a staff, but he and Emily still do the same twirls, jumps and theatrics – even the back handspring.
Emily starts to smile from ear to ear and her eyes glisten with enjoyment. "This feels amazing! This is so fun!"
Move after move, Kiran tries to copy what Consus did. "What can I do next? I can repeat… but it doesn't feel natural. I want to do this!" He pictures new movements and continues to dance.
At some point during their dance, Kiran looks at Emily. Like on previous occasions, his vision becomes blurry. He doesn't see Emily. He sees a black figure, with a small light-like white flame. The flame attracts him like a moth.
FWISH!
Kiran appears right in front of Emily, holding her hands.
"Huh?"
"Huh?"
They both look at each other. Then Kiran looks at his hands. "I'm holding her hand! Did I teleport here?!" His face burns up.
Emily smiles, noticing Kiran's change in demeanour. "This is also a way to dance. Like this."
She takes the lead and dances with Kiran. They partner dance around with the view of the river acting as their background.
After the dance, Emily hugs Kiran. Her arms reach up and wrap around his shoulders.
"Thank you for that, Kiran. That helped."
The nervousness Kiran felt when he initially held Emily's hand is gone. He feels calm and happy. "Your gift is amazing, Emily. Don't call it dumb again."
She looks at Kiran and smiles. "I won't. Let's share the food Mehaki sent. I bet it's delicious."
"Okay! I'm starving."
The two sit on the grass patch again and eat the baked potato in the packet.
While Kiran and Emily are in one part of the middle section of Harmony, Easton has also taken a route not many Harmony members follow. His area is open. Contrary to other areas, the trees here are whittled and old. Some parts lie broken on the floor. Why are they broken? Well…
"Activate stupid gift!" Easton slams his fist into a tree base. It shakes. A branch falls on the ground and shatters. "Wow. That punch felt much better than before."
For the last few days, Easton was told to rest. He took that opportunity to find a spot where no one could bother him. He found this area. Some members told him that a dangerous animal might lurk here, but he hasn't found any yet.
"Besides, if I want to be a protector, a stupid animal can't scare me. Especially… IF I CAN ACTIVATE MY GIFT!" Easton smashes his fist into the tree and nothing happens. He looks at his fist and notices the bruises. He shakes it off.
"You know, a target doesn't usually stand still," says Israr behind Easton. Easton turns and glares at him.
"What do you want?"
"Making sure you're okay. That's what Guild Members do!" Israr walks up to Easton and pats his shoulder. Easton jerks away.
"I'm fine. I don't need anyone looking after me. I never had, and never will."
"I'm sure the OmniOne looked after you."
"Yeah, sure. Keep thinking that."
Easton goes back to punching his new tree.
"You'll get tired doing that. It's strong, but not consistent."
"How about you keep your opinions to yourself? I know what I'm doing."
"Oh? You do, do you?" Israr smirks. Easton hears his laugh.
"Wipe that smirk off your face before I beat it off you. It pisses me off."
"Do you want to try?" Israr folds his arms. "We can spar if you want to. I don't mind."
"I'm not fighting a red rank. It won't be a challenge. Your gift won't do anything. Not like that bonehead."
"Try me, Easton." Israr stretches out his arm and taunts Easton. "Come at me. Let's dance."
