Chapter 2: Welcome To Arkodia

"Are you sure about this Garnett?"

"I am Kiran."

"You want to go in there?"

They both stare at the large building.

"This is where we need to go, Kiran. This is probably where the blue man wanted us to go."

"How do you know?"

"I recognise this building. Oh! We must still be in the Final Trial, which is why we had that crow and weird things are happening!"

"That does make sense… are we newborns then?"

They both look at the sign.

"I don't know. I've never heard that word before. All I know is this is a safe place."

"Okay! Let's go."

An entrance automatically slides open when they near the building. The room is very dull in colour, with seats around. It felt particularly normal. They see a woman typing at a desk.

"Oh! More newborns? How wonderful! I thought the last one was hours ago. You must've gotten lost in the forest. Not the first ones! You probably didn't find the trail."

Garnett peers at her. He sees a name tag saying 'Joan'.

"Are you a Guardian?"

"Oh heavens no! Hahaha. I came from The Trials just like you all. Just hmm a while ago."

She smiles as she types on her desk. Beep noises can be heard. Kiran looks at Garnett. He leans down to whisper in Garnett's ear.

"A while ago? Do you think she was on the beach too?"

"No. She is not wearing the same clothes as we are. And besides, everyone I have seen looks more youthful. And she is… not."

"I heard that!"

The 2 boys immediately stand up from their huddle. The woman behind the desk grabs 2 brochure-like papers and hands them to Kiran and Garnett.

"Here. This should help explain a few things."

Her gaze then turns to the girl.

"So is she okay?"

Kiran stares at the passed-out girl on his back. "No. Well, I don't know."

"She passed out when she recalled her name. She said she could not see," informs Garnett.

"Aw, the poor thing. It must've been scary. She probably had an energy exertion. So that's why you boys are late."

"Not quite. There was also a crow that… well…" Garnett looks down.

"You poor things! Was there a crow in there? I will report it immediately!"

The reception lady furiously types at the desk. 3 pieces of paper pop out.

"Please put the girl on that couch nearby. I will get someone to look at her. She should be fine. I can't see any major injuries."

Unauthorized usage: this tale is on Amazon without the author's consent. Report any sightings.

"Thank you." Kiran places the girl on the couch and smiles, "That's a relief."

She grabs the pieces of paper and hands one each to Kiran and Garnett.

"Here you go you two! Keep these on you. Please head through that door over there. Go to the Cable Room, and it will take you to the main building of Kura. All the other newborns have already been evaluated. Chop chop! Before all the good guilds are gone."

Kiran looks at his piece of paper. The number 5334 is on the paper.

"Thank you!"

"Yes thank you."

"You two are welcome. Now get going!"

Kiran and Garnett walk towards the exit the woman pointed at. As soon as they turn the corner, the woman sprints towards her desk. She picks up a watch on her table. After tapping it a screen appears in front of her. She selects someone.

"Hi James? I need to get a search squad up… No, I don't want to hear about the Virtura Guild right now… We need a squad! There was a crow inside our section. We didn't do our jobs right, and we will get in trouble if… I don't care! Get the Sharmeija Guild to take care of the animal. Hopefully, it ate all the bodies…"

She twists her hair and looks at a message she received.

'Meet us at the coffee shop. –M'

"And contact 2 analysers for evaluation… I don't care if they are 2 hours late! Get some."

She cuts the call and leans back in her chair, staring at the roof.

"At least I can get out with the Empiric Guild. That first newborn definitely looked promising. I hope Mr Wotts appreciated my call."

Kiran and Garnett pass through a hallway before seeing the sign that reads 'Cable Room'. They enter a room that's full of windows and seats, and quite big. By the look of it, at least 1000 people can sit inside here. Outside the window nature was visible. There are no other buildings other than the one they are inside. However, a steel cable is visible outside. One is connected to the top of the building, and the other is connected to the bottom. There are dirty footprints like theirs scarcely spread around the room near the seats.

"Please take your seat and fasten your seatbelt. The Cable Room will be departing in 5 minutes," announces a female voice inside the room. The 2 boys take their seats next to each other and fasten their seatbelts.

The building starts to move. They see the one they came from become smaller and smaller as they pass nature around them. The building suddenly goes up. Kiran grabs onto the arm of the chair instinctively.

"This thing's fast!"

"It does travel at a tremendous speed."

They see the building they came from getting smaller and smaller.

Kiran takes out the brochure the lady gave him earlier. He scans the front. Big bold letters are on it. There is only one sentence on the front. It's written with enticing colours and beautiful imagery around the letters.

"Arkodia for dummies?"

Nature passes by very quickly. It's hard to say how fast the cable room is going, but it's something Kiran could not keep up with if he had to run. He looks down and continues reading.

"So we were stuck in the place called The Trials for 18 years?" Kiran stares at the brochure. It states that for the first 18 years of their lives, anyone sporting the orange jumpsuit lived in a realm called The Trials.

"Are you okay Kiran?"

"Yeah, I am Garnett. All this just seems… confusing."

Kiran reads a part marked under a Frequently Asked Question section.

"At least memory loss is common. These seven laws don't make sense. The OmniOne's Seven Laws?"

This was a part of the brochure that got a full page dedicated to itself.

"I agree with you Kiran. These laws do not make sense… but it must be important."

"Why? Do you know who the OmniOne is?"

"Seriously? How much do you not remember? The OmniOne is our God."

"Really? That seems like something important for me to forget. Especially since it says here he tells you something when you wake up…"

"Right. I think I heard something about… growth. Or was it grow? I can't remember exactly. So it seems even I have some memory loss."

Kiran reads the sentence over and over again. "I know I heard some things… like my name. Was that the OmniOne?"

"Please be ready. The Cable Room is almost at the Kura Guild main building," announces the intercom. The cable room approaches a gigantic building.

The nature outside passes by slower and slower. Until they come to a complete stop. Nature can only be seen from the back window, where they entered from. That entrance is gone and only a large window remains.

"This must be the part where we join a guild, Kiran. First, we need to get evaluated, according to the brochure."

"Yeah. I wonder what it means."

"Must be something to do with gifts, or whatever that is. I guess we will find out soon."

"Please remain seated until your number is called. You may remove your seat-belts."

On the other side of the room, the window that displayed a lot of nature disappeared. A big black-grey wall is there. Signs are above certain areas, with these signs going from A to Z.

"Number 5333, please head to hallway G for evaluation."

"That is me, Kiran. I'll see you later."

"Okay! Good luck! I'll see you later Garnett."

Kiran continues to read through the brochure while Garnett leaves through a door with the 'H' above it. A few minutes pass before another announcement is made.

"Number 5334, please head to hallway H for evaluation."
