Chapter 24: Negative Energy

Chapter 24: Negative Energy

"Let Easton go you bonehead!" yells Kiran. He pulls far back and punches the large man.

"Hah! Are you finally throwing a punch? It doesn't matter what you do. He's stuck in there. Only someone with tremendous energy can release that!" The large man easily blocks Kiran's punch and pushes him off.

"You! Let him go!" Kiran runs in, but Israr grabs his shoulder.

"Be careful Kiran! You're too reckless! You don't even notice the cut on your side!"

Kiran sees he's been grazed by the Kamino weapon. The pain begins to set in. "S-Sorry. I'll be more careful."

"Let me handle close quarters. I think I can handle him. Try to grab his arm like you did with Easton when the opportunity arises."

"Okay."

Israr looks at the large man. "He's definitely the most skilled out of everyone here. I can see why these people would follow him. His combat skills are about green-rank I'd say. His gift at least doesn't make it more dangerous…"

"Whatcha staring at me for huh? Come on! Or should I come for you-"

VRRM.

"What's that sound?" A building vibration sound breaks the large man's attention. He turns to the transparent tube and sees it's not transparent anymore.

A strong orange lights up from inside it.

"What the hell? Is he dying?" The large man peers closer and sees small cracks start to form. "Oh no!"

SHATTER!

The tube's material turns into rainbow-glistening dust as a massive orange aura glows from where the tube is.

As the aura evaporates into the air, the silhouette becomes clearer.

Easton stands there. The orange aura illuminates from his right arm. Half his shirt is torn. His eyes pierce the large man.

The large man trembles. "Huh? My arm is shaking… N-No way…" He looks up and sees Easton lunge towards him.

"S***!" The large man brings his arms up. "My head? My chest? I can't read where he's going."

He yells, "Bone Hardening! Maximum Density!"

"EAT THIS B****!" cries Easton. He rockets his orange-aura-covered fist forward.

The large man blocks.

BANG!

A loud sound escapes after Easton connects. The large man flies through the air against a tree. The tree snaps in half.

"Huff… Huff… That's what you get, d******! That's for making me think I was dead!" Easton's legs struggle. He stares at his hand. "Crap… I feel so tired. Was that… my gift?"

He smirks and grips his hand in a fist. "That felt awesome."

"Easton! What was that?!" Kiran runs from the side and gets near Easton. "You look exhausted."

"Don't worry about me red-rank. I feel… great." As Easton says this, he loses his balance. Kiran catches him.

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

"Doesn't look like it."

"I'm fine. Don't let go though."

"Amazing Easton! That was incredible power output!" Israr also joins the 2 red ranks. "Well done." He looks around at the scene. "Because of you, we were able to subdue the big guy. You should be proud!"

"What else do you expect from me huh? I'm the best." Easton smirks.

Israr laughs. "Right. Let me check on the big guy. He should be alive. I'll restrain him and then we'll get some Sharmeija members to take them in."

The large man sits against the broken tree. His vision is blurry and his chest wheezes as he breathes.

"Are some of my ribs shattered? It's hard to breathe… what did he hit me with? So much kinetic energy…" He tries to move but pain shoots through his body. "ARGH! I-I can't move… My bones… they're broken? Did I use too much energy in my arms? Right… I blocked with my arms-"

The large man's eyes widen at the sight of his arms. The bones are sticking out. "O-Oh, my God! Oh, my Omni!" His eyes alternate between his 2 arms. "H-H-H-How is… this is not possible! How… a red-rank?" He looks up to the 3 laughing.

"No one was like that with me when I was red-rank…" The large man's breathing becomes heavier. "Everyone treated me like trash… even other red-ranks." Steam leaves his mouth. "Even framing me and getting me sent to the Prison Guild… for themselves." A tear forms and rolls down his face.

"I will not go back. I will never go back there. Why should my life be filled with such despair? Not again… not again."

Israr stops when he hears the large man mumble. "What's gotten into you now? Not again? What not again? Hey, can you hear me?"

The large man keeps mumbling the same thing over and over. The leaves and grass around him nudge and react, almost like wind is passing through.

"HEY!" yells the redhead tied on the ground. "You need to do something!"

Israr looks at her. "What do you mean?"

"He's being consumed by Negative Energy!"

Israr's eyes widen. "What? Are you serious?!" He turns to the large man and thinks, "I've never seen anyone be consumed! What do I do?"

"Why are you just standing there?! You're a Sharmeija Guild member! Your Guild must stop Negative Energy!" shouts the redhead.

"I know! I understand the goal of our guild." Israr turns and faces the large man, carefully walking closer.

"The OmniOne's Fifth law… One shall protect one another from negative energy… The law that started the Sharmeija Guild over 2000 years ago."

"Well go knock him out then! Just stop him before he is consumed! Please!"

Israr gets close. "I think if I choke him out-"

When Israr is in arm's reach, the large man's right arm reconstructs itself by the bone and snaps back. He snatches Israr's arm. This all happens instantly.

"Huh?" Israr looks at the bony arm that grips his wrist.

"RRRAAAAAGGGGH!" yells the large man. All the bones in his body reconnect as he emerges off the ground and throws Israr past Easton and Kiran.

Sharp bones start to grow from the large man's arms. It pierces through his skin and clothes. The bones have streaks of blood colouring it red.

"What the hell is that?! He looks like a monster from the story books in The Trials!" yells Easton

"He looks like a Bone Monster!" shouts Kiran.

"Hey, you two," says Israr, dusting himself off. "This is not something you two should handle. Please let me focus on it."

Israr steps in front of Easton and Kiran, eyeing Bone-monster.

"His killing intent is a lot stronger now."

Bone-monster appears in front of Israr. "And he's faster!"

He turns around and pushes Kiran and Easton apart. "Move!"

Bone-monster slices with its spine-like bone fins.

One spine grazes Israr.

"Israr!"

"I'm fine Kiran! Where's Easton?" Israr turns his head and sees Easton on his knees, holding his right shoulder.

"ARGH! D-Dammit!" Easton holds his shoulder tightly. "I wasn't able to dodge. Where's my strength?"

"RAAAAARGH!" screeches Bone-monster. It towers over Easton. It forms a smile.

"Don't!" belts Kiran.

"Kiran, stay back! That thing is way too strong! I will-" Israr looks at Kiran, but finds him missing. "No!" Israr sees Kiran on top of Bone-monster. "What are you doing Kiran?!"

Kiran hangs tightly onto the back of Bone-monster. It struggles to reach Kiran. He swings back and forth as Bone-Monster spins to grab him.

"I don't know how I got here! But get Easton! He's been injured!"

"Right!" agrees Israr. He's already crossed the distance and picks Easton up. "Let's go!"

Israr reaches a tree and places Easton next to it. "Are you okay?" Israr rips his sleeve off and ties a bandage around the open wound.

Easton grunts, "It hurts, but I won't die. I'll manage."

"Good. I'll be back now." Israr runs back.

"Kiran! Be careful! I'm coming!"

Kiran clings onto Bone-monster. "Don't worry Israr! I'm fine! I-"

A sudden pain shoots through Kiran's side. His wound from earlier aches. His grip loosens.

Bone-monster spins quickly and Kiran suspends in the air. Bone-monster grabs his face and bashes him into a tree. Kiran's head bangs against it. He lies still on the ground.

"No!" Israr gets behind Bone-monster and holds him tightly. His fingers interlock. "I'll not let you hurt anyone else!"

"GRR! AAARR!" Bone-monster tries to turn, but Israr's grip is too tight.

"I'm not letting go!"

Bone-monster smirks.

PIERCE!

Multiple bones grow and pierce through Israr's body. The grip loosens and he falls to the ground.

"Gheh gheh," laughs Bone-monster. Its vision sees its former comrades and walks closer.

The redhead struggles. There's a tear in her eye. "Please, Boss… No. This… This can't be how it ends. We all… we all wanted to enjoy the world together."

Bone-monster stands over the tied-up bodies. It walks past them.

"H-Huh?" The redhead turns and watches. She sees the monster head straight for the boy against the tree.

Easton grits his teeth. "All that trouble to pass The Trials, just to end up as a monster? That's sad and pitiful."

Bone-monster stands over Easton once again, this time raising its arm. It grins.

Easton stares at it. Its jaw is white, due to the bone outgrowing the skin.

"That underbite sure is ugly. Can't believe I'm getting killed by such a disgusting creature." Easton sighs and closes his eyes. "My body doesn't want to move… no matter how hard I try."

"RAAARRRGHH!" Bone-monster swings its arm down.

Dash. Dash.

CLASH!

Easton's eyes spring open. He sees that Bone-monster's arm has been blocked by a bamboo staff.

"Sorry I'm late boys. I had some trouble finding you all," says Consus while standing between Bone-monster and Easton. "Let the adult handle this now."
