Chapter 7: Encounter and Murder

Chapter 7: Encounter and Murder

The light prying from the glasses of the supermarket was enough to see around in the darkness, and even though this fact didn’t deteriorate their perception that much, it still created uneasiness from the lack of perfect sight. As they moved inside the supermarket, Kaan felt like the tightness of the space between two rayons aroused the feeling of being confined and the sound of creaking and thumping of things that reached his ear from time to time intensified the moment for nothing.

Not like claustrophobia because it was not the fear which provoked it, it was the disadvantages that could be caused by the position’s limitations. Kaan was not very affected by this and the same could be said for the Dean, but Emily and Thar were grasped by this feeling. It made them move with the utmost caution, which was not bad, but it wore their minds.

The group was moving relatively close, only going two rayons far from each other to be able to react if something happened to one of them. And as they had thought, there were still many rayons filled with goods. From what Kaan could see people were here not too long ago as some rayons were nearly empty, but something happened that caused them to leave, probably connected with the hanging young man at the entrance.

Kaan grabbed a few small batteries for the flashlight, fly spray, perfumes in small bottles, a few lighter, a few multi-tool pocket knives as they were light and small and a few snacks because why not. He also looked for sanitiser, but he was not able to find it, he might have to visit a pharmacy or a hospital if he wanted to get them. After a while, he saw baking powder in a packet on one of the rayons and decided to grab one.

“Would you want one too?”

He asked to Dean who was looking at his way, extending one of the packets of baking powder to him.

“Sure, I guess…”

Dean was not sure why Kaan was taking a packet of baking powder, but he decided to get one too.

After a while of wandering around Kaan encounter a blood trail on the ground when he was alone looking for rope. He was able to pick the shape of a hand from the blood trace and also there seem to be constant blood flow, they were probably wounded, maybe crawling? Kaan followed the trail which led him into a rayon filled with different napkins.

He saw another young man; he was sitting on the ground his back leaning to the rayon. His left arm was gone, torn apart from his shoulder. There was a little blood puddle under him, and his clothes were also painted with his own blood. He was dead but something about the way he died felt so… tragic for Kaan.

Kaan could see he had tried to close the wound using the cloth napkin, but it looked like he was not able to stop the blood flow with one hand, it was maybe a futile attempt, but he did try to survive yet in the end, he just died like that, alone and in despair in the dark corridor of the supermarket.

Kaan sighed for his fate sincerely and then gather the group around the corpse. Thar found a long cloth quickly to cover the dead body.

There was not much to say about it, it was another dead body, and the emotions were mostly the same. Everyone connected this with the hanging young man and felt that they were getting closer to something. While they focused on the dead body Kaan heard a few sounds and focused on it. It was like chattering but he was not sure.

“Everyone, don’t move a second.”

He said in a whispering manner and focused on the sounds he was hearing. He became sure that there were people, at least two, and the sound was coming from near the right wall of the supermarket, where they were heading right now. He notified the group which was also listening to the sounds.

“Do you think they are the ones who did this?”

Thar asked with a cold look on his face.

“Quite possibly, probably also the culprits of the guy hanging at the entrance or at least connected.”

Kaan said to the group, and everyone nodded in agreement with his words. Everyone looked at each other in understanding and a silent agreement was made, they all got ready to fight.

They began walking to the section of the supermarket where canned food was, the rayon was placed into the right wall of the supermarket.

When they reached the canned food section, they saw three people standing there; All of them had swords as their weapons. Two of them were chatting with each other with happy and carefree expressions on their faces, they were wearing simple clothes, T-shirts and sweatpants, and looked at their twenties. Behind them, there was a guy in black jeans, and he didn’t have anything on his upper body; he looked like he was in his forties. He was reclining on the wall and the moment the group walked into the area his eyes were focused on them.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

Kaan looked around and saw the traces of a fight on the ground, also there was a torn arm lying there on the ground near the rayon.

Two groups looked at each other without saying anything for a while but then Emily and Thar nodded each other, and Thar moved towards the rayon.

"Alright, my guy. You better stop there."

One of the guys who looked like in his twenties said as his smile disappeared quickly and checked the intruder who walked into their area.

"What?"

Thar asked without minding his worth much and continued to walk towards the rayon.

"Are you fucking deaf? I said you to stop."

The guy said and his voice became louder, trying to establish his domination on the situation.

"Why would I stop? There are lots of it, and there is no apparent owner of the mall to stop me."

Thar said to him without being affected by the guy’s display of ‘dominance’.

"Yeah, do you think like that? Well, we don’t give a shit about what you think. Everything here belongs to the Crimson Sword group, so get to fuck out of here!"

The guy said as he took a few steps towards the Thar, directing the sword in his hand lightly towards Thar in a threatening manner.

"What if I don't?"

Thar said without stepping back as he took one step towards the trio. Kaan sighed seeing him confront them without a doubt. Kaan knew Thar was already quite angry from what he’d seen up to this moment and now seeing these pricks who had smug smiles and claimed this place belonged to them while a murdered man lay a few rayons away.

This built-up anger was already making Thar more aggressive, and he wanted to kill them already as a punishment for their actions. He was looking at the trio with hatred and animosity and he was not hiding it. Seeing that the fight was very far, Kaan got ready for the point thing was going to get messy.

"I would tell you to ask the owner of that…"

The man said with a carefree manner and pointed to the arm lying on the ground.

"But I think he is already gone. He thought he was some shit, you know. But just cried for help"

He raised his hand to his throat and moved it horizontally like he was cutting his throat with a grin on his face and turned to his friend who gave him a laugh in return.

"Thar, come here."

Emily said to Thar with a cold look on her face. Though it was not in the same way Thar showed that in his face Kaan was sure they shared the same thoughts for the trio. Thar looked like he had different plans as he tightly grabbed the club in his hand, but he heeded the words of Emily and turn his back to the trio and moved towards the group.

"Yeah, listen to your girl, like a good boy. She might give you a few treats if you continue to lick her feet."

The guy tried to taunt Thar as he grinned and Kaan could see it was not very effective, Thar just turned around and gave a look filled with killing intent.

“Shut the fuck up, you worthless dipshit.”

He said with a heavy tone then turned his back and walked towards Emily. He was not going to give a damn about what this idiot was going say anymore as he was already dead in his eyes.

‘It’s really funny to so see how he is acting. Is it because they beat and killed a few fragile people that it created fake confidence in them coming from the one ‘being’ strong? That they are the top guy here and people had to listen to their words and else was he going to kill them, huh? Well, at best a [Thug] from what I am seeing, though it seems it was kind of effective, lucky they are for not facing someone who has adopted.’

Kaan thought about the guy talking to Thar with a smug look on his face. When the order was gone the powerful would thrive and the system really implemented this new reality into the world. Not everyone was a fighter, not everyone could kill someone easily and even though they might expect someone to attack them to kill, they couldn’t get used to the idea of someone killing them without any apparent reason, at least not so quickly, and that would bring their demise. Most would avoid fighting when someone points a sword into their face in an intimidating manner even though they could beat them, it was unexpected and new.

'I wonder if he really thinks this is some kind of game. He must be thinking that death was going to come for him as he survived by trembling on other people, belittling others in your eyes do that to you, gave you a false feeling that no one was not strong enough to beat you. Not going to live too long, are you? You’re not strong enough to act like this, at least not alone.’

People really had different reactions to cope with the situation which they were in right now and these guys' approach really annoyed Kaan, because it was simply pathetic and this in front of them was looking for his death with this attitude without the power to support it.

Kaan's eyes wandered off to the shirtless guy watching them with an indifferent expression, he was not very interested in them but occasionally checked Emily with a quick glance. He felt that his guy looked a little bit more dangerous than the two and then returned to the guy who was looking at Thar with piercing eyes.

“Whatever, if he is like that, it would be easy to break him.'

As Kaan was in his thoughts, the guy's face distorted into anger with the words of Thar.

‘I just need to kill him right, it should be easy, right, like how that guy did. I just need to stab the sword, and no one is going to say something. Then I would also be in a group as the leader took him in. And this fucker is just showing off and so it will be easy.’

It looked like the guy’s pride was too high for being looked down and the treatment he got from Thar was enough for him to decide to kill him and show everyone not to mess with him. He raised his sword in a tight grip and quickly ran towards, aiming at his neck. He was going to finish it quickly, oh, how wishful of a thought it was.
