Chapter 12: Fragments (2)

Chapter 12: Fragments (2)

Kaan hopped down cautiously and landed without a problem. He gave glances to Thar and Dean’s side and then looked at the monster which was trying to free himself in a hurry as it knew that death was near. He tightly gripped the sword in his hand and began to walk towards the werewolf. The werewolf seeing his figure coming closer to itself stopped trying to set itself free for a second and threateningly growled on his way showing its claws.

When Kaan looked at the face of the monster which angrily growled at him, he saw something through it. It was like, there was something in its mind, something Kaan could faintly see and feel, a bunch of fragments. He firstly didn’t understand what this really was and why he was realizing it now but his mind tried to reach these fragments and they called him, they wanted someone to see them.

They contained memories, which consist of the losses and shattered feelings all over the werewolf’s mind. They were so small yet contained too many things coming from what this creature was once before turning into this twisted creature of a nightmare.

Kaan felt that he was getting out of his track as his mind focused on those fragments, he was aware of it but he couldn’t stop himself from focusing on them. He understood that it was his class, [Medium], answering them but he didn’t understand what exactly was happening.

It was like his being connected to them as it moved automatically, following the will of [Medium]. All of these fragments didn’t matter anything to the werewolf anymore but it meant many for Kaan. He saw the guilt, regret and agony in its fragile their fragile beings that were left in this monster as if trapped by invisible chains, pleading for someone to help.

As the werewolf sensed Kaan peering into its mind it tried to stop this intruder from reaching the parts he hide deep inside to forget but it couldn’t stop Kaan. Kaan felt the guilt which dominated nearly all these fragments of memories as he faced the monster and slowly headed towards its side, they got stronger. Kaan felt that he could reach these fragments and he instinctively did, he didn’t like it. It made him feel emotions and see shattered images that belong to what this monster was once, they sang into his soul.

Kaan faintly saw the face of the cruel man who turned to this monster. Kaan felt his exhaustion with hope as he ran for something, then felt the shattering of these hopes and a great hatred for humans. Kaan felt the pain caused by something sharp piercing into his chest and then the man was lost but his hatred remained alongside a little bit of his consciousness. There was just darkness after death with an unending rage and bloodlust alongside the regret for what he had done, what he had become.

Kaan felt that he was dragged to it, dragged to what these fragments contained and had a need to see more of it, a need to set them free. He cursed and tried to stop it but everything was happening so fast and out of his control. He felt the fragments on the undead werewolf’s mind trying to reach into his own soul as if they were held back by something.

They tried to find a way out, tried to find something or someone to guide them. The monster roared angrily as its lifeless eyes once again filled with some kind of emotion and it wanted it to stop, stop this miserable feeling as if it was causing him crucial pain.

As the fragments began to influence him, Kaan felt something was very, very wrong. The docile emotions he had suddenly got violent like an active volcano ready to erupt. He felt like a storm started inside his mind as bloodthirst and hunger filled his mind.

He first chuckled then began to laugh to his heart's content as he felt free of his chains, everything felt clearer. Oh, how alive he felt as his emotions ran wild, finally grasping what he truly desired. He looked down on the werewolf, as different ways of butchering this large body possessed his mind, to see its dark blood gushing out everywhere, even imagining it was beautiful.

‘No, no, fuck!’

He was losing his control. These feelings of bloodthirstiness and hungriness didn’t belong to him, he would never let them run wild. He felt as if something, some part of him he confined by himself inside was twisted by these fragments and set free. He tried to stop it but as he got closer he felt more and more vulnerable to the emotions radiating from fragments and as he once opened his mind to them, he was not able to stop himself from receiving them.

“How should… I thank… urgh… you?”

Kaan asked the monster in front of him howling in a disturbance with a creepy smile on his face. He felt his mind was a mess as his thoughts changed again and again, he was losing control and it felt… amazing? At least every part of him agreed to kill this monster as he raised the sword into the air.

Without wasting time swung it towards its head. The werewolf quickly reacted and stopped the sword with its claws then it tried to reach Kaan but Kaan dodged it without a problem as the werewolf was still unable to move freely.

Kaan felt as if his mind was divided into three, one trying to absorb the fragments, the other was going crazy in fun and his normal self was observing them as he tried to suppress them. Kaan knew he should attack its neck but it desired to cut its head in half vertically, he wanted to know what it would look like when it was split in two.

As fragments’ influence raised in him, he felt more unbalanced. Kaan didn’t know what he was really doing but he wanted to reach for the fragments, find a way to save them and also wanted to see how a werewolf would look if his head suddenly exploded in front of him.

Kaan’s stability of mind was lost as he couldn’t stop the fragments from affecting his mind while trying to reach them and worse he couldn’t stop himself from reaching them. He swung the sword with a fit of anger, to shatter, to cut, to destroy this damned creature. The werewolf growled in agony and attacked Kaan’s left shoulder with its claw.

Seeing that he was not fast enough and attack at the same time, he let the claw of the werewolf plunge into his shoulder, using it for a clean cut to its head. Kaan felt the claw try to tear his arm off of his shoulder but to his luck, something stopped it from delving deeper into his shoulder.

“Aren’t you a bad puppy?”

He said laughing to himself and quickly dropped down the sword once again in its ugly face. Oh, how good it felt to feel flesh tear up slowly with each hit, it would look beautiful when he was done and those fragments were going to be free to so, a plus right? Yes, yes it was, he needed to save them. And then he was going to regain control of his mind and stop these unwanted presences.

‘Come, come and be free from this madness, let me end your regret!’

Kaan knew his thoughts didn’t reach fragments and he didn’t wait for them to. He knew he just needed one more touch, one more push and something was going to happen. He didn’t know what was going to happen but his instincts showed him the way and he followed them.

The werewolf tried to attack but it also looked lost and feared by this laughing thing in front of him and once again attacked in despair to make it gone. As the werewolf's right claw moved towards Kaan’s right arm, the fire began to swirl around Kaan’s arm and in no time a firebolt covered in fierce and unstable flames appeared right in front of his sword-holding hand and launched into the incoming hand. The firebolt hit it on the forearm and stuck inside of it. With the impact the werewolf's arm was driven away to its back and wild flames reached its elbow, engulfing the dead flesh.

“Let’s not do that, shall we? Don’t worry, you will look perfect! And you will be free.”

Kaan said giggling as he raised his sword one more time and shouted as loud as he can as the thirst for blood and butchery take over him. One last slash for this to end, for the regret to pass for what it turned out to be and for the monster to die, for them to survive. The sword vertically delved halfway into its head but it didn’t stop with just that. Kaan felt as if the fragments help him to finally finish their damned existence and face what they deserved for the monster they became.

The undead werewolf gave one last howl in despair as the sword continued to move deeper and deeper into its head until it sliced the undead werewolf’s head in two and ended its life. Half of the face slid off from its shoulders and its neck was also cut in half.

“Now, now this looks beautiful.”

Kaan felt soo excited but seeing it dead quickly made him lose interest in him, though he still thought it looked good with a half face and what was inside in its brain spilling out. With Werewolf's body lying lifeless in front of him Kaan felt something aberrant from beyond reach to collect fragments but the fragments were already transferred to him, to his mind with the death of the undead werewolf. When the aberrant entities tried to reach into his mind Kaan felt a sickening feeling all over his body but they couldn’t move into his mind how much they tried so they disappeared quickly as they came.

Now the fragments were saved he felt that one of his parts was gone yet the other insist as its hunger grew stronger while its presence got dimmer with the absorption, it wanted to see more before it was gone. He felt hungry… for fun? Yes, but not quite right. He wanted, something else too…

“Ah, yes!”

He exclaimed in excitement as a smile curled up on his face looking at Dean.

‘No.’

‘But why not? Isn’t this what we want? No, it’s not. But I want it, don’t you see they are just worthless! You are not me.”

Kaan felt his mind was buried in silence for a second and then it began to laugh like crazy.

‘I am not you, yes, of course, I am not! How can I be a fucking wretched piece of flesh like you humans? Yet I have become a part of you even if you and I don’t want to admit it and oh, you willingly opened your arms to me as you are not so different. You all deserve to be nothing but prey in front of me and die! You think you are somewhat different, you think you can make me stop? You are just me.’

Kaan felt his focus faltered after the laugh of his mind influenced by the emotion of fragments done its last advance. He felt his brain felt like it was breaking apart, the feeling once belonged to the werewolf was going rampant inside of him as they began to get weaker with each passing second.

He raised the sword he was holding into the air and again and again slashed the dead corpse of the werewolf, shouting, grunting and breathing heavily. Though his face was vacant without any emotion on the outside, there was a maniac laughing like a child in a theme park in his mind as the werewolf's body distorted in front of him with each sword strike.

‘I hate you, I hate you all, I want to kill all of you because, in the end, all of you are just murderers like me who hide their true nature behind their polite faces. Why I am like this?”

“Kaan, it's enough!”

Kaan heard a voice coming from his back but he didn’t turn back and continued to mutilate the corpse of the werewolf with the bloody sword.

“Kaan… damn it!”

Kaan felt something stop his movements for a while and this caused him to see who was intruding on him. He saw a woman, not just a woman it was Emily, a woman looking at him worriedly and it was not just her the other was also looking at him with the same expression.

“Kaan, do you hear me? We did it, you did it, and it’s ended now. Come here and let me look at your shoulder. You’re injured badly.”

Emily said softly to reach Kaan. She was not sure what exactly was wrong with Kaan but it was the first time she saw him losing it and his nature of him felt distorted. Although his face didn’t have any emotions, those normally hollow eyes were filled with a strange liveliness and violence as they changed direction again and again between Dean, Thar and her.

She could feel the vile emotions she felt from the monster in his mind than to [Insight of Righteous Path] but those feelings were surrounded by something which she was not able to see the nature of. She was not able to see anything when he looked at Kaan so it must be him fighting off and she wanted to help him.

‘Do you think they will be strong? I do. Then you are a fool, they are just weak, I’ll show you! No, you won't.’’

The woman, Emily, slowly walked to his side as he eyed her intriguingly but just stand right in front of the werewolf corpse, without any movement. The man that was right next to her looked worried and tried to stop her, offering to go on her behalf as he was scared of Kaan’s unstableness but she assured him it was alright, how could she be scared and left a teammate who fought for them because she feared of him?

The man acknowledged her thoughts but didn’t let her get close to him alone and followed her closely. As for the other man, he just chose to stay behind as he watched Kaan with low spirits and sad eyes. He looked regretful too, for what?

Kaan held the sword lightly as the bloodlust tried to take over his mind, he was still hungry for violence but when the thoughts of attacking his team something else echoed in its soul, something sharper and much stronger, the regret it would cause and he was not that weak he was going yield some petty emotions.

‘Enough.’

That was what he thought. He was going to make these emotions stop, they already got weaker without the fragments which were their source.

‘Enough? HAHAHAHA, DO YOU THİ…”

Kaan closed his eyes and the feelings of hunger and butchery left his mind along with the bickering voice. They suddenly disappeared as if they never existed in the first place. He swallowed them, the darkness that is. He didn’t see it, he didn’t need to, he knew he did, and he felt the control he had over his mind very clearly.

It took him a bit to learn how to convey his will to the dark space in his mind when he was not there but in the end, it was very effective. The only bad thing was he didn’t know what exactly happened to the thing he swallowed but it was unimportant right now.

Now once again regained his composure and felt silence filling his mind, he took a deep breath and opened his eyes. When he looked at Emily he saw an old man standing next to her. He was wearing brown trousers and a beige T-shirt. He was a large man with great composure with a fit body which had a striking cut wound starting over his right eye and reaching to his chin.

‘You know we had to control our state of mind every time or we will do, that’s the most important and the basic of being a berserker, never lost yourself in the power of the rage, got it, newbie? Good, I know you were the bright one, that's why I choose you as my apprentice!’ He laughed brightly in contrast to his intimidating appearance and even that caused a warm feeling inside Kaan ‘Now, let’s go and grab a bowl of soap before Ilvane closes her place, I am starving!’

He saw the figure smiling towards him with care but he knew these words were not directed at him but still it was what he needed the see and hear, what he wanted to see and hear.

“Yes, captain.”

Kaan answered him with a smile and laughed lightly before he collapsed into the ground. The last thing he saw was both Dean and Emily rushing to his side quickly to catch him and the feeling of warm arms holding his body before he met with the cold and messy ground.
