Stefan returns to the workshop. The cat was once more in the computer room, so Stefan goes over to him. Upon reaching the room, Stefan sees the cat looking at… humans? Pictures of humans, to be exact.
"What are you looking at?" Stefan asked, confused.
Once the cat hears his voice, he quickly closes his tab and switches to a document.
The cat turns around at him, with a shocked expression.
"When did you come back?"
"Just now. I destroyed that robot. I also got a lot of new information but I can't read any."
"Alright, go to the repair chamber. I'll come soon enough." said the cat before turning to the computer again.
Stefan looks at his cyborg arm, which is visibly damaged. He takes a deep breath then exhales and speaks up.
"So… Can you do something for me?" asked Stefan.
"You're still here? What is it?"
"Well… You see, what if… You made my arm bigger."
The cat stops typing on his computer and floats towards Stefan. It's hard to tell if his reaction is good or bad.
"For real?" asked the cat, rubbing its chin.
Stefan is a bit embarrassed.
"Uhm-yeah! Y'know, like, I get damaged and all of that… What if you made my arm stronger, harder, tougher?"
"So it can hold more electricity and blood energy, of course! Why didn't I think about it before!" said the cat, proud.
"There's no limit to your pride, is it?" said Stefan.
"Actually, I was thinking about a new weapon for you. And also a new skill for your sword, but it might take some time to develop your sword's ability. I think… like… you'll have around… 2 more upgrades? I don't know, but cobalt is reaching its limit y'know?"
"Yeah yeah, I get you."
The cat claps its hands.
"Alright, bet!" said the cat excitedly.
"So, you can really do all of that?"
"Of course."
"Aren't you gonna scold me for being weak?"
"You won't be anymore."
"That's a relief… " said Stefan in his mind.
"I know, it's not worth grinding my nerves if you won." said the cat.
The cat floats towards the repair room, Stefan follows him. He lays down as usual, then the cat starts doing his job. After more than 8 hours, Stefan wakes up. However, he can't move his body. Only his eyes. He quickly panics as he can't speak at all.
"Oh God, oh God, what happened? Did the repairs fail? Oh God I can't feel anything, am I dying oh no-" said Stefan in his mind.
"Shut up already, you're not dead. It's just sleep paralysis. You can't move your body but you can move your eyes and think. I can still hear your thoughts. That's how we'll communicate for now. It's because of your arm, it takes some time for your mind to adapt the neurological systems to your new stronger cyborg arm. It'll be over soon. Until then, there's some stuff I wanna tell you which I found interesting." said the cat as he cleaned his tools.
The cat goes away for a few seconds, coming back with a whiteboard on wheels and a marker.
"Alright, listen, after decoding the data you gathered from the swordsman, I found out that Andrew has special robots names "bosses". For example, the swordsman was a boss robot. I also found out a secret web page where they keep their information. I was able to obtain an account from the swordsman itself, but it needs a 2 step verification, meaning I cannot log into the account with just the name and password. There were also several emergency codes to enter without the 2 step verification, but the model of the robot is so old that the codes themselves expired." explained the cat as he drew on the whiteboard with a marker.
"What the hell is he talking about…" said Stefan in his mind.
The cat sighs then speaks once more.
"Also, fun fact: there were 23 people assigned for the creation of the "Soldier Slicer Project", a.k.a. this sword dude. 18 men and 5 women to be exact. Upon the discovery of cyborg equipment and several other technological advances which assured 100% safety, the "Soldier Slicer Project" was canceled right when it was about to be finished. Everyone got their paycheck, but it says in there that the leader of the project actually burned the money right in front of the business man and dedicated the rest of his life trying to finish the project himself in his basement. Due to lack of professional equipment, he accidentally made the robot go rogue, which killed him in the process. I still don't understand if the creator purposely intended this or not, but I'm telling you, a robot with flaming blue eyes? Do you think what I think too?"
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
Stefan just looked at the cat, having no idea.
"What I'm saying is, that this man found out how to store actual souls into lifeless machines. Did you see anything out of the ordinary while fighting it?"
Stefan thinks for a second then replies.
"I saw its hand regenerate after I pierced it with a rifle." said Stefan slowly in his mind.
The cat snaps his fingers.
"Bingo, thank you. The question now is, do you think the soul acted differently? Because from what I mostly know, souls are just power storages… I also know that humans can unlock some sort of soul related element, but that's very unlikely for this scenario. Blue flames… Blue soul… Blue… What could blue signify… What was its behavior like?"
"Well, when it started to get serious, it slowly walked towards me. It also stood in the same place when I used your rifle and somehow perfectly dodged every blast."
The cat rubs his chin with his paw and frowns slightly, looking down.
"Hm, a soul of patience?"
"No, it can't be. At first it was very speedy and flashy. It couldn't have changed personalities in the middle of the fight, right?"
"No idea… Truly no idea… The only awakened human soul I've ever encountered was bravery. I have no idea about anything else. No human has ever unlocked the soul element ever since I met that guy."
"Who?" asked Stefan curiously.
The cat's tone grows raspy and he speaks in a meaner manner.
"None of your business. What's in the past is in the past."
Stefan would sigh at this moment if he would have been able to. Stefan looks to the left and he sees his entire left arm inside a machine.
"Hey, I told you not to worry. You'll be fine. Anyways, after you can move again I'll need you to find the next robot boss. It should be a fluke to defeat with the new enhancements given. And try to make sure it's not some aztec fossil. I need those emergency codes so we can crack down their systems. I'm not that good of a hacker y'know?"
Stefan suddenly feels a wild tingling sensation in his left arm. He can make it tremble. He slowly regains control of it, then suddenly, he breaks through the machine with his arm. Stefan looks amazed at his new cyborg arm.
"What a beauty, isn't it? Three times the durability it had before, an absolute behemoth to fight against. If I were them I'd surrender just at the sight of it." said the cat, with a tone so proud that he almost shed a tear.
His arm is slightly bigger. It was colored in a dark shade of blue this time. The blood energy storage looked chunkier as well.
"Listen, no more need for blood energy blasts. Just save them for blood flames mode. Your electric shockwaves are way stronger than they were before."
"Are you guessing or are you sure this time?" asked Stefan with doubt.
"I'm more than sure this time, don't worry. And also, if you run out of electricity, you're fucked. There's no way you'll ever be able to lift it without electricity, so that's why I installed a grappling hook in your palm.
"That's cool, I guess."
"You can just scan a robot for its energy source and shoot your grappling hook at it. It will instantly absorb the electricity and give it to your body."
Stefan keeps looking at his new arm. He seems to like it, but at the same time, he still wished everything would've been over. He doesn't want any more pain, but he just desires to end them all already.
"I'm ready." said Stefan, determined.
"What? I mean- that's what I like to hear!"
"Will he come too?"
The cat remains silent for a few seconds then looks at the floor, then up at Stefan again.
"You really pissed him off. You want to go with him? I can call him."
"Yeah, I don't wanna risk anymore."
The cat floats over to the computer room and starts typing on his keyboard.
"He'll be here in a moment. Also, one more thing, your blood flames mode lasts much longer. Use it whenever you can."
A portal opens in the main room and Rares comes out of it. He walks towards the computer room, the first thing he sees being Stefan. He notices his new arm but says nothing. Both Stefan and Rares look each other dead in the eyes.
"Boys, keep it for the battlefield. Unleash yourself there." said the cat as he grabbed their hands and went over to the carpet.
"I'll send you to a zone where I was able to record a high commotion rate. They might have a gathering. Slay them." said the cat before pulling the lever and teleporting them.
Stefan looks around himself for directions. Rares starts walking forward.
"Don't get in my way this time. I'd rather die than get your help." said Rares.
Stefan says nothing, but he sees a familiar being… The giant robot spider he encountered the first time he arrived in this place. Stefan wants to tear it apart just the way it tried to rip him apart with the micro missiles. He aims his left palm at a block of flats, then uses his grappling hook to skip over it. Rares turns around and sees Stefan rushing towards the big spider.
"What a dumbass, can't he just follow me?" said Rares to himself before flying with flame bursts after him. Stefan runs and jumps from a building to another, surprisingly faster than Rares. Rares actually struggles to keep up with Stefan, but eventually they both reach the spider's combat range. It quickly notices them and with no warning, it starts shooting bullets from its machine guns. Stefan takes out his sword and deflects as many bullets as he can. He jumps off the building so the spider's guns are useless. The spider notices this and launches micro missiles which spread randomly around the zone, destroying several buildings in seconds. None of the missiles reach Stefan. As Rares was leaping in the air using his flame blasts, a robot suddenly busts from the roof of a building together with a shovel and relentlessly slams Rares into the ground. It takes no time to dive into Rares together with its shovel. Rares activates his elementalist coat.
"Defense coat!" yelled Rares as his coat intensified.
He braced himself and a shield of flames appeared, blocking the robots attack. Rares pushes the robot away using the shield, its shovel is tied to its palm with a metallic rope, easily returning in its hand once it stabilizes itself on the ground. Rares deactivates his elementalist coat and gets up. The robot looked bulky, not your average dollar store scrap. The shovel seemed sharp as well. Rares creates his usual fire spear and flourishes it before holding it tightly with both of his hands. The robot sees that and it tries to do this as well, but fails miserably. The shovel returns to its hand and it holds it with both of its hands as well.
"Could this be another boss? It looks dumb enough to be one." said Rares in his mind.
