Verse Three

VERSE THREE: THE CEREMONY OF BIRTH

I am three years old now and still look like an infant. It turns out that dvilytis growth was a bit slower compared to humans. That’s why talking (baby talk) starts at the age of one and crawling at the age of two. Formal education then starts at the age of seven. Children intelligence grows much faster than they’re body after the first few years. Thus a lot of children my age can start to converse in a clearer ways and stops their baby talks. Of course, I am different since I retain my memories in my past life. It’s like a cheat.

Oddly enough, I notice my parents getting exited especially today. They’ve been preparing for something this last few days.

Daina: Papa, is there something special today? *I ask as he put me some moon white clothes he’s holding.

Krēsla: I’m always an open book to you Daina. *chuckles* You’re right, today is a special day. You’ll be able to go out for the first time outside our house and have the Ceremony of Birth in our temple.

Ēna: That’s right baby! But the best part is you’ll finally see a mirror today!

Finally I can go out. But… huh? Ceremony of Birth? And what’s with the mirror? I look up to the both of them with questioning gaze. My mother laughs. It seems today I can talk normally with mother. And when I say normally it means talk with sense. Mother is very mischievous and playful. She’s the best in making pranks towards us father.

Ēna: Ceremony of Birth is something we held when the child turn three years old. Us, dvilytis were known not only for our beauty but for our long lives. But the crucial stages were the first three years where life actually isn’t completely developed. You may not notice  but you still haven’t have your shadow. So we lit up our house.

If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

Hmmmn, I never pay attention to it since our house is really bright where you’ll think the sun were inside. So that’s actually the case. But she says it hides in my shadow…

Ēna: Your missing shadow is the proof of your incomplete soul. That’s where the ceremony is for, it’s the birth of your shadow and proof your living. You can’t live alone without a shadow. Once you had it, then you can live as long as you want as long you won’t receive fatal wounds or terrible illness like us. I have to make you stronger so I always play with you with a bit of force. I don’t want my baby… *sniff*

Krēsla: It’s fine now Ēna. You can relax now. You’ve done well and look, our baby will finally have the ceremony. Your worries now will end. Hush now.

My father hugs my crying mom and me. My mom was like a child now that she’s crying. It’s really beautiful and

I know I always say it. I know my parent cares deeply in me. I can see it. But hearing it directly from them is still different. It made me ticklish.

When my mother recovers, Father first put a veil before we made our way to the temple. This veil must be enchanted to allow the user to see outside while hiding the face. And god its amazing. I know that our race live in a forest but I never thought it to be this wonderful. It’s like some kind of fantasy setting drawn out from a movie. There are lakes and streams and small falls from elevated ground. There are fireflies around even if its still daytime. There are also some animals around but they were all behave even that tiger near the water. But the most impressive were the giant tree in the middle of the lake. It’s like in mythology where nymps gather and live. Of course the nymps were actually my kind. But my parents were still the prettiest. I’m not being biased okay?

See? They even stop to look towards us.

Krēsla: This is the Tree of life. This is where the Gods and Goddesses of Life were worshiped.
