VERSE FOURTEEN: UNFINISHED SONG

I stand in the middle of the clearing with the crowd waiting patiently for me. I close my eyes. This is my day. I barely talk or speak to them. Sometimes, I even act cold but they still treat me nicely. This time, I will express my feelings. My unspoken words. For the first time, I will do something for them.

Slowly, all my years of memories come to me. The air shifts in my concentration. The pulse of earth match mine. I let the rustle of leaves, the flow of the water reach my ears. I feel the light in my skin and gradually harmonize myself with them. I open my eyes.

I take my first step as I hum a gentle tone. I can see the force gathering in the clearing, moving and dancing with my tune. I swirl and slowly shift into more playful notes. My body follows my rhythm as well and never loose it’s balance or trip. This is what I exactly what I want before though I can only do this when I sing. When I stop, I will surely fall. I wonder if I can use it to learn and fight. That is my next project.

The people listening were all immersed and listening to me with smile. Good, my intention seems to be reaching them. But before I start, a loud noise came out of nowhere disrupting my rhyme. Because of this, my feet slips and I tumble on the ground. The people also seems distracted as if just woken from daze and started to panic. Jaunava immediately shout to gather their attention.

Jaunava: Calm down! Everybody listen to me or you’ll see what disobeying me will be! We have yet to know what is happening right now but I’m telling you that everything will be alright! Now follow the guards and evacuate inside the temple. No one is allowed to go outside without prior notice, move!

Daina: Jaunava! What’s happening?

Jaunava: Daina, leave this place immediately. Even I don’t know what is going on but one thing is sure, someone is breaking or islands’ protective seal. I’m afraid it won’t last longer. Go! Now! Guards! Prepare yourselves!

Another banging sound came and the air distorts, I can’t get up. Curse this body! My mother run towards me with father in her arms. If it’s not today, I’m probably crying from laughter. We all know that my father is a tall man while mother is only Five feet three inches. Looking at them now, you can imagine a frail lady carrying a grown up like a princess.

Ena: Get up now honey! Hurry! Grab onto my shoulder!

I put my hands to her and we starts to walk. But unfortunately, due to distortions, my body never finds it’s balance and I always tumble on the ground. Though my mother manage to lessen my fall, I cannot help but slow us down.

Daina: Mom, go take father first.

Ena: What?! Your father’s safety is important to me but you are as well! There’s no way I will leave you here.

Daina: MOM! You can’t take both of us! I will be fine here. Go! You can come back for me after you take father to safety. Hurry!

Kresla: No! It’s dangerous here! I won’t leave my baby here. My wife, don’t listen to her. Instead, you take her first! Yes! Let’s do that! Honey, you will listen to me right?

My father’s teary eye look at my mother expectantly. My mom looks at me then to my father with a really conflicted expression. I can see she’s having a hard time. So I will help her choose.

Daina: Mom! There is no time! In my opinion, the perpetrator is someone strong. The barrier won’t last long. Go and take father! You know I am smart right? I will be okay. And you can’t leave father here. You know you can’t leave him! Just do this for me.

Ena: … fine… Okay. But Daina. Promise me you will be okay! Don’t do anything stupid I will come back for you!

Both of them set off with my father protest. There’s nothing I can do. I can only blame it to this body of mine. I watch them run towards the temple inside the tree of life. I am, with a few civilians, can be seen here outside aside the guards. Another loud screeching sound came from above as the light suddenly disappear. I look in the sky and freeze in the sight I am currently seeing.
