The guild was even bigger than what I was expecting, from the outside I was thinking that would probably think it's about as big as a mansion. But I was wrong.
Not only was it larger than I was expecting, but it was by a large margin. In the main room, countless adventurers, so much that they are to be counted by hundreds were looking at ‘virtuals’ notice boards. Probably a certain type of magic device.
There were a large number of them and were classed by size, but the smaller they became, the less crowded it was.
The smaller ones, in fact, didn’t even have someone looking at them.
Are they classed by ranks? It would explain why there're so many people at the firsts ones, only a small amount of adventurers should be able to take the difficult missions. Furthermore, those missions should take a certain period of time to complete which make those adventurers even rarer.
The sight is even more impressive than the market place. This place is screaming ‘FANTASY’. Here it wasn’t weird seeing for people wearing robes and carrying strange magical staff or swords. Some were dressed in a white robe carrying a little mace, others wearing a little cloak and pointy hat like those western witches in stories.
This was merely the main room of this building, I could see three or four more room on this floor. One had a beer stein drawn on a signboard, another had a potion and the last one a sword and a shield. Even an idiot would be able to guess that they were shops belonging to the guild, selling things indispensable for an adventurer.
While I was observing this new environment, the brown haired woman dragged me behind the reception.
The reception was terribly crowded, an incredible amount of people were waiting, awaiting their turn. Only three people were taking care of the people, there were two more open posts, but they were empty.
The three opens post were occupied by three women, the moment they noticed me and the brown haired woman coming, they excused themselves to the adventurers and came to us.
“Did you find Kasos?” One of the women asked. Tt was a young woman, probably in her middle twenties with beautiful orange hair and very large breast.
“No, but I swear that if I find him, I’ll definitely beat him until his own dog won’t even recognize him!” She answered.
The three other women sighed simultaneously.
“That bastard only show up when he want to… If it wasn’t for Brass’s recommendation, he wouldn’t even have been picked.”
“I told you not to take him, just like Brass, his reputation in the city is among the lowest.” A short green haired young woman said to the brown haired one.
“What could I do? It’s not like I even had a choice. I was forced by the previous chief before he was discarded. The only reason I kept him was because I wanted to give him a chance, but that bastard didn’t take me seriously when I said that I would fire him.” She replied as a vein popped on her forehead.
“You should still have fired him the moment you were promoted. That fucker even made Sarah quit with his sexual harassment!” The green haired woman almost yelled.
“Stop it, Kana! Saya isn’t the one responsible for Sarah’s case. It’s all because of that bastard.”
While I was cluelessly listening to the women’s conversation, I felt something light slowly climbing on my back.
When I turned my head, my face was extremely close to the third’s woman’s one. I was so surprised that I almost screamed, yet I managed to hold on.
As she was climbing on my body, she grabbed my chest to use as a support, the moment she did her expression slightly changed into a shocked one, then into a smiling one.
“Oh Oh, you can’t judge someone on appearance. Right, ‘young man’.” She whispered.
It was the last woman, a young silver haired woman who seemed to be near her seventeen-eighteen. She had a feature which differentiates her from the others, it was her pointy ears. She was an elf.
“What are you doing?...” I asked her with a bewildered expression.
Is that an elfin tradition to climb on people’s back the first time they meet? Somehow I ain’t very convinced.
“Nothing~”
She now started rubbing her cheeks against mines like a little cat. Being glued to me, I could also feel the form of her breast on my back.
“Aww~ So cute~"
While I was distracted by the little silver-haired elf, the others had finished arguing and were now looking at me.
“So, who’s that?” The orange haired woman asked.
“She’ll help us for today.” The brown haired woman, Saya answered.
“Actually, I never said that I was going to help her. I was just kidnaped in front of the guild and forced to come here without being told anything!”
Is what I wanted to say, but I kept it inside. Despite not being on Kaiyu’s level, each of those woman are beauties. Besides, I still got a few hours before meeting my clothes are ready, I might as well spend it here.
I’ll also probably be paid for helping them, I don’t know Kaiyu’s financial situation, but I still need to repay her for the two hundred gold she gave me. I know I manipulated her feelings with the love remote, but I still don’t want to be the kind of man who play with a girl then use her without remorse before throwing her away.
“At least, Selen seems to have taken a liking to her.” Kana said.
“Kukuku, don’t be deceived by the appearance, this cute and lovely little animal is actually a boy.”
Everyone’s expression froze at the same instant in perfect synchro. I am seriously becoming tired of this reaction.
“Hah… Isn’t it obvious that I am a boy… I mean look at my clothes.”
Although my body look like a girl’s one, one can from seeing my clothes and my chest that I ain’t a girl.
“”You really aren’t a girl?”” They asked simultaneously.
“...”
* * * * *
“Ahh… I’ve never thought that you girl liked to bully boy that much...”
“Just shut up Selen! We’re sorry so please, leave that corner and stop crying.”
“Kana is right, we were just teasing you so please calm down and take some tea.”
“So you were really just teasing me?” I asked with some doubt.
“Y-Yeah, we knew right away that you were a boy, right guys?”
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
“Y-Yes”
Somehow, I ain’t convinced. They are all looking away, avoiding my eyes. However I now managed to calm down, I don’t know why but I went into a major depression and started cultivating some mushroom in a corner of the room.
I never expected myself to depress because of something like that but being close to so many beautiful women, yet being called a ‘girl’ with such an earnest look. It almost shattered my pride as a man.
It’s decided, starting tomorrow I’ll start training!
When I think about it, only Kaiyu managed to know I am a boy with a single glance.
While I was thinking to myself, the women were looking at me with a wry smile, thinking I was still depressing.
“It’s fine… So what did you want from me?”
“A-Ah, that’s right! We don’t have the time to talk. Actually, one of our employee, that fucking bastard is actually missing while we are overloaded with work.” Saya said.
“And you want me to replace him?”
“That’s right, since you’re new we’ll let you manage the ‘acceptance management’. All you’ll have to do is check the rank of the contract an adventurer chose and his own rank then write a paper where you write the number of the commission and name of the adventurer. Then you just let the adventurer sign it and stamp it.”
“We’re mostly doing paperwork after all.”
So that’s why she was looking for someone who can read and write. Since the language in this world is the same as the one I main, this is no problem for me.
Thinking about it, it might be good for me to work here… I might find some pretty adventurers on who I can use my cards… *Hehehe*
“Very well, my name is Yuu, nice to meet you.”
“You can call me Kana, nice to meet ya. If you need something just ask me.”
“My name is Lean, take care of me.”
“I am the staff’s chief, Saya. If you are in trouble then come see me.”
“Selen…Kukuku, I’ll take good care of you.”
The green haired dynamic Kana, the big breasted orange haired Lean, brown haired chief of staff Saya and finally the little silver-haired elf Selen… I should be careful of the last one, otherwise I feel like with only one moment of carelessness and she’ll eat me up.
* * * * *
They lied to me…
When they said that they would give me an easy job. More than half the adventurers that were waiting went to my side as soon as they announced that I would take care of the commission's acceptance.
While the procedure is extremely simple and fast, the amount of people waiting for me is HUGE.
As I was throwing some desperate glance at the girls, they all avoided my stare. Only Selen looked back at me with a strange smile.
“I want the commission number 49 please.” A little eight years old girl asked me as she gave me her card.
Let’s see… The number 49 is an F rank one, delivery of meat to diverse merchants of the city. I normally wouldn’t need to check her card since F rank is the lowest one, but it’s the procedure.
Name: Louise Kaeslan
Gender: Woman
Age: 9 years old
Rank: E
“Here.” I said as I gave back her card after writing her name and rank.
“Thank you big sis.” She said smiling before running away with a happy smile.
I now became used being called ‘big sister’ or ‘little lady’... After complaining a little, now only kids call me that. But since I said I was a man, the amount of girl in queue mysteriously increased.
You must be asking, ‘why is there such a young girl in the guild’?’. The adventurer guild is actually open to all ages. Of course there’s a lot of restriction for those beneath fourteen, their rank can’t go higher than E. Most of the commission at this level are harvesting herbs.
As long as kids complete three commission per months, they are able to take lesson paid by the guild, teaching them various tricks for martial arts.
This system is actually pretty interesting. Child's aren’t paid the totality of the commission, only half which can serve as pocket money, the other half is used to pay B ranks adventurer to teach them.
In a class of forty kids, one can imagine how much the teachers are paid. Despite being lower than the reward of a B rank or even C rank commission, this is a safe way to earn money and it is pretty common for the retreated adventurer to teach them.
Since they implemented this system, a number of newbies surviving on their first missions considerably increased. At least, this is what Saya said.
Here, the meat delivery mission was given by the guild and not a merchant. They come from D rank commission reserved for fourteen years old adventurers which are hunting animals like three-eyed bunny or deer.
In short, the E rank are adventurers in training who are paying their own lesson by completing commissions. D ranks are hunting animals missions where they’ll kill their first living being and start using all what they learned until now.
At their sixteen, they receive an hunting mission where they hunt goblins in group. They must all at least kill one to pass C rank, this is somewhat an exam. We can say that C rank is actually the lowest rank if we ignore that the others rank are there for kids.
The gap between the ranks are also very large, only a very experienced C rank adventurer might apply for a B rank exam which allows them to rank up. But it depends on the difficulty of the commission's he did.
On the other side, B rank adventurer can be considered to be the true ones. At this point, the missions consist of exploring ancient ruins and dungeons or hunting dangerous monsters unlike goblin. This is why the transition between C rank and B rank is pretty difficult.
In a city as large as here, the amount of adventurers above B rank is pretty rare. The majority of them is either C or B rank.
“Hahh… On the outside it seems great, but who would have thought that being a guild’s receptionist would be so hard…”
As I was sighing, a large figure made his way through the queue, pushing everyone aside.
“HEY YOU! What are you doing at Kasos’s post?!”
It was a large and bulky man probably around twenty five or six years old with a very tanned skin, wearing an iron armor which made a loud sound each time he walked. On his back he was carrying a giant two handed claymore which was even larger than me.
“I-Isn’t that the A rank adventurer, Brass the Bloody Dog?”
Seeing the expression on his face, the blood of everyone around him froze.
